Has someone installed Windows 7 on an Satellite L40?

Anyone done this yet?
Any driver issues?

Hi
Im not Satellite L40 owner and I didnt install the Win7 on my notebook but I read here in the forum many threads regarding the Win 7 and mostly all users has managed the installation of Win7 on the own notebooks.
You can use the Win Vista drivers most of vista drivers are compatible with Win7 and I think there shouldnt be a big problem.
But you should consider that the Win 7 is a beta version and there are still a lot of bugs and open security risks.
So I would use this OS only for some testing but not as a regular OS.

  • Win 7 install disk driver problem on Satellite L40-18E

Hi' to get to the point im trying to install windows 7 on a Satellite L40-18E and when i boot from cd it says i didnt safely remove storage device.
When i start up Vista as normal and try install from my computer it says i do not have the hard disk drives. am so confused please help:-)

    Hi again
sorry i wrote that message last night when i was tired and realise it its just a poor description of my problem to say the least.
Basicaly the laptop L40 i have bought is from a friend who copied all the stuff he wanted to keep to his new laptop and just gave me it with his programs and music on it. It has two partitions on it and windows vista os that i personaly think is a load of rubbish. All i realy want to do is set it back to factory setting and have one main partition instead of 2 small one's then load a fresh install of win 7 (no upgrade). It is a new windows 7 disk that fell of the shelf at work (cough) but is 100% never been used brand new. My computer know how is as good as my grammer (which is poor). i have changed bios to boot from dvd and pressed any key to boot it first load bar goes fine then second stops at 1/3 and a message about me not unplugging a storage device pops up and tells me i can go no further.
So i tried to boot it from the vista desk top in my computer went well at first then message poped up about correct hard disk drivers not installed from there the confussion started.
If u could dumb down or give me a description of were to find the info u need im more than happy to do it just not confident with pc's let alone vista

  • Installing Windows 7 on the Satellite M100

I have the Satellite M100-JG2 (PSMA0C-JG200E). I would like to install Windows 7. The Toshiba does not list the M100 as compatible. The Microsoft Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor does point to some issues, but I do not know how easy it is to overcome them.
I read on another forum that the touchpad didn't work after the upgrade but this was solved by installing a Synaptics driver. Otherwise, I'm seeing people posting the upgrade was successful with no other info. Can anyone tell me if they have experienced success or not in attempting this upgrade, any issues they've run in to and how they've resolved them?
The Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor provides the following information (I've delete personal programs):
All systems pass (I only have 1GB RAM though, so not sure if this is too little, even though it passed)
    All devices pass
    Programs with issues:
TOSHIBA ConfigFree version 5.90.05 (don't know if I even need this)
    TOSHIBA Hardware Setup version 1.39.0.4C
    TOSHIBA Supervisor Password version 1.39.0.5C
TOSHIBA Alps Pointing-device Driver version 6.0.2.186 (is this touchpad)
Client and Host Security Platform version 104.0.14.2
Any help or advice would be welcomed before I attempt this upgrade.
    Thanks!

Okay, same Rory, different signon, as I had a password recovery issue. Alex, thanks for your very helpful response.
Here are my two major concerns:
    1) Toshiba does not list the M100 compatible for a reason, but it does list the M300 and M500 as compatible. I do not know why the M100 is not listed.
    2) The big issue I've seen in my internet search with the M100 is that the touchpad does not work after installing Windows 7. I was this resolved by one user by installing a Synaptics driver, but that is the only thing I've been able to find on the net about this.
Does anyone have any advice or experience about installing Windows 7 in the Satellite M100. I would have to wipe my only laptop, upgrade and find out I've hit a wall and have to try to go about to XP.
    Any thoughts or advice? Thanks!
    Rory

  • Can I install Windows XP on a Satellite A300D-14P

Can I install Windows XP on a Satellite A300D-14P?
...thx for any info and/or help...

    Hello
    Just to clarify something:
    - if you want to install WXP but not changing BIOS settings (leave it to AHCI mode) at the beginning of installations procedure you must load SATA driver pressing F6. Thats only way to install WXP successfully
    - you can install WXP without SATA driver but you must change the settings to Compatibility. Everything will work well but if you change the settings to ACHI back you will get BSOD every time when you try to start WXP
If you want to install SATA driver please install WXP using SATA driver before the WXP installation starts.

  • Re: IMPORTANT - How to install Windows 2000 on a Satellite L300-16M (PSLB0E) ?

    Hello,
I'm an independent developper and absolutely need to install several operating systems on my *Satellite L300-16M (PSLB0E)* : it's very important for me because I've to check working of piece of software under every environment for real (not using solutions like VMware, for example).
Well, so, at this time, I've done an Acronis TrueImage backup of original full HDD, then deleted original WinRE and Data partitions, reduced and moved at beginning of disk the Vista partition... and installed System Commander 8 to prepare my future multi-boot. At this time, all sounds right : Vista works perfectly !
Also, note I've configured SATA in Setup BIOS to be in "Compatibility" mode ; just because I don't need AHCI in my type of use !
Second stage : now, *I have to install Windows 2000 Pro (SP4) FR*. Of course, I'm aware that the blocking point is the SATA/AHCI driver, wich is absent in the Win 2K CD... So, I've just made a new CD integrating these drivers using nLite ; at this time, I've tried using driver from Toshiba's XP Drivers page and Intel site about Intel 82801 HEM/HBM SATA AHCI Controlleur (ICH8M).
But it doesn't work completely : the Win 2K install starts... All drivers are well loaded (including the AHCI ones) and just after this loading step, I get a black screen with just a blink cursor at top left of screen... indefinitively :-(
I've also tried to switch SATA to "AHCI" mode in BIOS and it's the same.
So, what to do next ?
Do I've used the wrong AHCI drivers ? Do I need to incorporate the maximum of Toshiba Drivers (about chipset, display, sound) in the Windows 2000 install CD using nLite ? I mean until the CD capacity is not reached.
Is there a way or tutorial to install Windows 2000 somewhere ? For XP, I think it will more easy because SP3 seems to support AHCI, but, just now, my problem is to install Windows 2000 : even if Microsoft wants to leave-it, there are a lot of professionals who still use-it... And my job, as developer, is to do my software works on this OS too ! *I really need to find a way to install it on this computer !!!*
Awaiting your lighted replies and all tips or idea which could help me to achieve the task.
In one word : HELP ! oops !

Thanks xaver, but I've already tried stormng-20070827133046.zip and it remains the same :(
About all driver ? Oh, in fact, I'll try to see if the XP ones work and if not I'll have a not-fully working Win 2K, but it will be enough for me to test my programs... I hope, at least, I'll be able to do display driver work !
Well, seeing I don't succeed using Intel/Toshiba drivers and nLite, I'm trying at this time to go through another way, installing Win2K in a VMware, then forcing install of the Toshiba AHCI driver, then doing a TrueImage of this and restauring in the Toshiba ! I'll see...
However, if someone has an idea, don't hesitate.
EDIT : I'm now at the step to try to force the Store Manager driver from Toshiba (the one given for this model under XP), launching iata_cd.exe and after some second I see a message saying that this OS (Windows 2000) is not supported by this driver... So, from now, I clearly know why this driver failed when I gone through the nLite-customized Win2K CD install directly on the Satellite :-(
So, this change the game : does it exist a Windows 2000 compatible driver for the Satellite L300-16M's AHCI Controller ??? This is the question !
If you have the answer, very thanks to tell me, of course...

  • Some tips to install Windows 8.1 on Satellite L650-1L4 required

    Hey there,
I just got my notebook back from support since my harddrive failed last week.
So, since I'd have to reconfigure everything anyways, I'm thinking about installing Windows 8.1, which I can get through a student program of my university.
The preparation stops at the drivers, though, since I can't find any drivers for Windows 8 and my model.
Note that my model is an L650-1L4 and was originally shipped with Windows 7.
Has somebody here maybe some experience with this?
Are the generic drivers included in Win8 sufficient to be able to work - and play games - flawlessly?
While I could easily wipe the Win8 installation and reinstall Win7 again, I like to be prepared, and since I'm leaving this weekend for a small vacation, I'd like to have a working notebook with me.
    Thanks for your help!
    Message was edited by: CGundlach

Hmmmmm...... it can be a bit complicated. Ive checked Toshiba download page and your notebook model is not supported for Win8. Ive checked some other models with similar hardware configuration but they are not supported for Win8.
I really don't know what to say. If you have created recovery disc (Win7) install Win8 and check how it works. Some Toshiba specific tools and utilities you can download from other models in hope everything will work well.
Anyway I think you should stay on Win7.

  • Cannot install Windows XP Pro on Satellite A100-411

    Hi,
I´ve got a question. I own a Toshiba Satellite A100-411 with Windows Vista Home Premium. Because of the performance which would me much better with Windows XP I tried to install Windows Xp on a second partition but on the same harddisk.
The Problem is that it didnt work, I put the Windows XP cd in my DVD Drive, did a reboot and started from cd.
Than the first installation window of Windows Xp opened and checked my system, but when it was done and
wantet to start the main installation i got a bluescreen, where was standing that she System was shut down because of an error and that i should change my videocard or that i should turn of caching and shadowing in my Bios.
But my Videocard realy works and is ok and i can't find caching and shadowing in the bios, so i cant install windows xp.
So my question is wether there is a possibility to install Windows XP on the A100-411 when Vista is installed on the other Partition.
Did I do something wrong or isnt it possible to install Windows Xp after Windows Vista on a A100-411
Sorry for my bad english and greetings from germany

Hey guys, this topic can be closed, ive fixed the problem on my own but thanks for your advice Jack Black.
I had 2 partitions before u told me to create them, that was not my problem, the problem was, that my windows xp cd was one of the older ones, so i created a new xp cd including service pack 2 and the installation went fine.
But than there was an other problem, the only OS which started was Win Xp because of the damaged bootloader of windows vista.
A friend told me that this problem can be fixed with VistaBootPro and that was a good advice of him.
Now everything is fine and i hope that my games wont crash anymore and i also hope that there will be not so much bluescreens as under windows vista.
Have a nice weekend to everyone *g*

  • How can I install windows XP on my Satellite A300-129

    Hello,
Since a few days I have bought a Toshiba Satellite A300-129. I'm very satisfied with the laptop, though I don't like to work with Vista so i would prefer to reformate the laptop and install Windows XP Professional(32 or 64 bits, dunno yet).
However I don't know if i have to do anything special for it, because this is my first notebook I've got and I only once had a laptop with drivers on a CD. Now i'm switching operating system i think i need some driver disc's for my webcam and stuff like that.
    I hope some1 can help me :)
    Thanks alot
BTW I'm dutch, so sorry for my English.

    > And i've got a legit license of XP Pro, though i dont understand what u mean with the sata driver things. Do u mean i need to ADD the drivers on the current Disc with windows XP?
The point is that your Windows XP CD does not contain the SATA drivers which are necessary to recognize the HDD during the XP setup procedure.
So you will have to include the SATA driver pressing the F6 button while the XP setup is loading. For this procedure an external FDD drive is necessary.
If you dont have a external USB FDD drive then you could create an Win XP CD and could include the SATA drivers using the free software called nLite.
One note; Use the forums search function for searching on other threads about the nLite and how to create such CD. I remember there are many threads in the forum about this theme.
    Cheers

  • Can I install Windows 7 on a Satellite C855-1WR?

I've made a BIG mistake! After having Satellite's for years, I recently bought a C885-1WR but didn't notice it came with Windows 8.....and I HATE it :(
Can I install Windows 7 on this machine?
If so, how do I do this, please?
I have very little technical knowledge, so easy answers please.
I would be eternally grateful for any help.
    Thank you so much
    Polly

Of course you can do that.
You can install Win 7 if you want.
Firstly you have to go to BIOS (press F2 while booting)
In BIOS disable secure boot and switch from UEFI mode to CSM mode.
Save the changes and now you could boot from the Win 7 disk and could start the installation.
But just one important note: read you user manual and create the recovery disk BEFORE installing anything on the notebook. The recovery disk help you to go back to Win 8 in cases you would like to use it again!

  • Has someone installed some kind of data logging *SPYWARE*  on my iMac?

I found a file I don't recognize sitting in my ~/Library/Preferences folder called "HOME Preferences".
    This 4K file contains this:
    UserLocale=en_US
    LastUsedDeviceTypeName=go720
    UserPatchFeedback=0
    UserPatchFeedbackAddress=
    ConfirmedAnonymousDataLogging=1
    HaveSendAnonymousDataloggingReply=1
    BackupPromptDevices=M64048D01413
    StartUpWindowBounds=-7,22,1816,999
.. and that's all. IS this a symptom of some kind of spyware installed or attempted to be installed without my knowledge by someone else who had access to my machine? The datalogging settings bother me as does a setting for user feedback of 0 which sounds like a setting to keep the presence of a datalogger quiet from popping up or showing. How can I figure out using unix commands in the terminal or something more convenient what application this preference file belongs to? This file has an install date of late 2008, so if someone is spying on me, they've been doing it over a year without my knowledge--that disturbs me a bit. I was nosing around trying to figure out why this G4 macMini which is supposed to be recording my two household security cameras has been running so poorly. I have no idea what this file installed on it is all about. I don't believe it to be related at all to the Security Spy software I use for recording the cameras feeds to hard disk.

    First off, don't panic.
'Data logging' can mean many things, and take many forms - not all of which are nefarious.
If you think about it, it would to be a pretty dumb hacker who infiltrates your machine to install a logger and leaves such a big, bold footprint behind.
That said, I don't know what this relates to, specifically, but a quick google on some of those keywords (especially the LastUsedDeviceTypeName) hints at something to do with a TomTom GPS unit. Did you install/attach a TomTom GPS back in 2008 when this preference file was attached?
Data logging is often used in GPS terms to track paths/routes, so it would seem to make sense.

Yes, of course you can install XP on this machine. Firstly go [HERE|http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com/cgi-bin/ToshibaCSG/download_drivers_bios.jsp] and download the drivers for your machine. The appropriate model number for your machine is "PSAK0E".
After downloading all drivers you can install XP on it.

  • Is it possible to install Windows 7 on my Satellite M40X?

    Hi,
I tried to update on Windows 7. Now I am looking for a driver for audio, network and massstorage. Is it generally possible to install win7?
    Thanks

    Hi
Win 7 is definitely possible. I could install Win 7 on my 6 years old notebook even if the drivers were not available.
I used this instruction to find out what device my notebook support and could search using google for Win 7 drivers:
[How to identify an unknown device?|http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/kb0/HTD0302U00000R01.htm]
But to be honest, its difficult to find all Win 7 drivers for such units the point is that even chip manufacturers dont provide Win 7 drivers for older chip/devices.
However in most cases Windows 7 uses own standard Microsoft drivers.

  • Installing Windows 7 on the Satellite X200

    Hi
first time user to forums so forgive me if I miss anything that is relevant to topic
    Have a problem:
I want to upgrade my OS from vista ultimate to Windows 7
When I put in the disk it goes through all the sequences of a clean install but when all the files are copied over it does the reboot and comes up with an error
    Missing driver.....
I find out after reading several other forums that it uses a SATA config for the hard drives and there is no driver set on the install disk
    Now my issue is:
    a) Where exactly is the hard drive driver I need
    b) How do I put it on a Windows 7 ultimate install disk?
Appreciate any help I can get
    Thank you in advance.
    Grail

    Hey Grail,
The driver that you need is called Intel Storage Manager. You can download it on the Toshiba page or from Intel directly. You can copy the files on a USB stick for example, it should be possible to load them from USB stick.
Furthermore Windows 7 isnt released as yet and in worst case you have to wait until driver support starts for Windows 7. At the moment you can only try to use the Vista drivers.

  • Is it possible to install Windows XP on a Satellite A200-1CR

Hello all. I have a A200-1CR with vista. This OS is not working very good and i cannot install a lot of programms that i must use. So, is it possible to delete the Vista and install Win XP pro instead? What about the drivers? Can i install the drivers for Vista at XP? If not, does anyone knows when toshiba will release drivers for win XP?Thanks!

    Hi there,
surely you can delete Vista and put XP on your machine. But before you do this, try to find the appropriate drivers for your machine at these sites:
    http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com/cgi-bin/ToshibaCSG/download_drivers_bios.jsp
    http://209.167.114.38/support/Download/ln_byModel.asp
    http://www.csd.toshiba.com/cgi-bin/tais/su/su_sc_home.jsp
and then when youve collected all drivers and burned them to a CD, then you can install XP. :)
    Easy going. ;)
