  • Download OS X Mountain Lion

When you download OS X Mountain Lion, does it delete everything on the mac? I have many pictures I want to be in the mac, but I don't know what to do if it is not there when i have downloaded Mountain Lion.

Those of us who have been around a while using Macs and troubleshooting Macs know that ANYTHING can happen at any time. Hardware failure or software failure. When it does if you don't have a good backup solution your data will be irretrievable. That's why Mac has Time Machine built-in. Get another disk and begin using it. Or, for a bootable clone (the best protection) use SuperDuper or CarbonCopy Cloner
I keep both. The advantage of the clone is that when your hard drive fails you can just boot from the clone and keep right on working until it's replaced.

  • I keep getting "hash mismatch" when trying to download Mountain Lion from the App store

I've been trying to download the new Mountain Lion from the App Store & keep getting "hash mismatch" message. I was able to download on my 1 computer, but no luck on the 2nd computer, which is up-to-date on all updates & software. Support even put a fresh copy of the App in my account & I still get that same message. Someone suggested AppCleaner, but how do you delete the OS to re-install the new. Didn't think that was possible. Any suggestions - I've tried quitting & logging out of the App Store & even re-starting (several times)

    -  Temporarily disable anti virus software if installed.
    -  Apps such as Little Snitch, Net Nanny, and Hands Off can prevent apps from downloading including Mountain Lion.
How to re download apps from the Mac App Store:
Open the App Store. From the menu bar click Store > Sign In
Click Purchases from the top of the App Store window.
Select Mountain Lion. Then right or control click where you see Installed then click Install.
Make sure and use the same Apple ID used for the original purchase.

  • Since downloading OS X Mountain Lion my WordSearch9 will not open. I got a message that X11 was not supported and directed to a sited to download XQuartz. Now when I try to launch WordSearch9 I get a message "X11 cannot be found.

Since downloading OS X Mountain Lion my WordSearch9 will not open. I got a message saying that X11 was not supported and directed to a site to download an update "XQuartz" which I did. Now when I try to launch WordSearch9 I get a message "X11 cannot be found". I did follow the instructions to download and install XQuartz, but there still seems to be a problem. Anyone have an idea?

Your report indicates Mountain Lion, but your footer indicates Lion.  I'll assume you're on 10.8.2; on the current Mountain Lion version.
    Rebooting is fine.
The posted diagnostics look like there might be a problem with the Xquartz install, or it is not starting, or it's not authorized for the sandbox.  (But I don't know enough about that to be certain.)
Try launching X11.app directly from your Applications > Utilities folder, and see if that works, or if shows any dialog boxes, or that reports any errors.
If you had an Xquartz kit installed and it's not the 2.7.4 (current) Xquartz kit, then please update to that version.  (I'm assuming that site is where you got your Xquartz kit from, too.)
I'd also suggest also discussing this more directly with the Xquartz folks via mailing list or the IRC channel, or collecting up the Xquartz logs and then posting a bug over at the Xquartz site; here are the details on bug reporting for Xquartz.

  • I had downloaded OS X Mountain Lion and had to replace my hard drive. Now when I try to download it only wants to upgrade since I show that I previously purchased it. What can I do to get the operating system back

I had downloaded OS X Mountain Lion and had to replace my hard drive. Now when I try to download it only wants to upgrade since I show that I previously purchased it. What can I do to get the operating system back

I'm unclear on what the problem is. Have you installed a system on the new hard drive, and if so, what system? Had you actually installed Mountain Lion previously, or only downloaded it? And what does "it only wants to upgrade" mean? Have you actually got Mountain Lion already installed? (See About This Mac in the Apple menu.)
All Macs that shipped with Lion or newer are capable of internet recovery in situations like this. Just hold down command-R and it should start in recovery mode over the internet if necessary. You can reinstall the system from there. If you had Mountain Lion, I would assume that Mountain Lion would be the system you would get reinstalling that way.

  • HT2020 Can I download iChat when I have the new mountain lion update?

I downloaded the new mountain lion, but I cannot figure out how to download iChat. Is it possible to download iChat?

    Hi,
Most of the Major IM services (AIM, Jabber, MSN/Live and Yahoo) do not allow cross over.
i.e. you need and AIM account (Screen Name) to chat to other AIM Screen Names or a Jabber ID to talk to jabber  Buddies and so on.
Apps such as AduimX and ProteusX have long had the ability at least for text chats to have all your Messaging Accounts in one app.
iChat was originally AIM only (well, in addition to Bonjour - then called Rendezvous)
In iChat 3 Jabber was added (a bit of work was needed to get GoogleTalk to work)
iChat 4 added a separate option to Add Google accounts as well as Jabber.
iChat 6 adds the Yahoo option.
At Messages 7 (numbers continue but the name changes) adds iMessages to the other four methods/Accounts.
Messages is an App that can allow you to access 4 external Services and one LAN Based one.
Much like Mail can access many external Email accounts.
Whereas emails are fairly standard that web based and App based version can read/display emails created in a multitude of apps the Messeging sdie of thinsg has never got that far.
Adium and Proteus have used Backward engineering in a lot of what they do to be able to join as many type of service as they do.
iMessages can be sent to iPhone Numbers (that have been registered (enabled on the iPhones) for iMessages) or to Apple IDs that may be in use on Macs running Messages or iPhones and other iOS devices that may be using Apple IDs or iPhone Numbers (as you can link them).
Bonjour can be sent to other Macs on your LAN that have iChat or Messages with the Bonjour account Enabled.
It takes your name from your Address Card and broadcasts this as your Buddy Name in their Buddy lists.
(you see their Address Book Name).
AIM does have it's own registration site.
However Apple originally made an Agreement with AIM when iChat started out and any Apple Issued ID is still valid (there are exceptions)
Any @mac.com whether Paid For Trial or a Lapsed account counts.
Any iCloud Issued @me.com and @icloud.com IDs work if you keep the Password to the 16 character AIM server limit.
Any MobileMe issued @me.com that has lapsed will not work.
These newer iCloud linked IDs can not be used in iChat 5 or earlier due to the way the later apps login and Check the password (you login to Apple AND AIM to confirm access to the password).
Jabber is a lose collection of separate severs that can be what is called Federated.
This allow Buddies from Other servers to be added to your list and fro your to be able to Contact them.
Google (with a Google Mail ID and Talk enabled in your Account settings)  is a Jabber server
Facebook (Enable Chat and use the new Chat ID) is also a Jabber server.
This is the most extensive server list I know of.
It also highlight which sort of Transports a server may be using.
Transports offer a way of linking to other services within  a Jabber account (Instructions)
Yahoo is text only within Messages and iChat 6
Whilst Yahoo themselves made an agreement with MSN that MSN/Live IDs could be used over the Yahoo network you cannot use one in The Yahoo option in Messages/iChat 6.  It has to be a Yahoo registered ID.
    Video
AIM and Jabber accounts can Video to other Macs running Messages or iChat (ver 3 and above for Jabber)
If you have enough Internet speed for Video then you can Audio Chat and Screen Share with these Accounts
Bonjour will also Audio Only or Video chat to those LAN based macs
    Yahoo does not do Video.
iMessages will invoke FaceTime if you use the Video icon during a conversation.
It is fair to say that Google, Facebook and AIM all offer ways to now add Buddies from the Other Services.
It is best if you use the web based method to do this but they should appear in the Buddy lists.
If all your people were using iChat before you do not  need to enable the iMessages account in Messages.
You can make do with the AIM (valid) Screen Name or Jabber ID that you were using before.
My Messages > Preferences > Account looks like this (Mavericks)
I have set an AIM account to a non identifiable pane.
The Window Menu list looks like this (see the General section on Unlinking them)
I used the Jabber.me server as it offered Transports that could then be used by other Jabber servers.
This meant I could add Buddies from MSN linked this way to my Google Buddy list.
I display the Buddy Lists all the time like in iChat and my Desktop looks like this
    I hope this helps

You will need to contact Apple, try iTunes Support. Mavericks was pulled from the MAS when Yosemite was released and the only possible way to get it is by contacting Apple directly.

  • Did download OS X Mountain Lion and see the features in my applications, but not reflecting in my APPS purchases.

did download OS X Mountain Lion and see the features in my applications, but not reflecting in my APPS purchases.
also this takes huge amount of time, almost 10 hours to download, even using 3G Net connection.

    Hi kiwirudy,
I've had the same problem more than once since I started trying to download my 14 April purchase of OS X Mountain Lion.
I found a property list called manifest.plist in my ~/Library/Application Support/AppStore folder which had a Boolean property called failed checked. I unchecked it and afterwards I was able to resume my download.
Here are some steps I've found useful:
    Close the Mac App Store.
make a copy of the  ~/Library/Application Support/AppStore folder. For some strange reason the Mac App Store likes to just delete it in some circumstances, which will mean that one has to start one's download again from the very beginning.
Double click on the manifest.plist in one's ~/Library/Application Support/AppStore folder.
This should open it in Property List Editor.
Expand all the nodes (holding down the alt key and clicking on the highest collapsed node should do it.
Find a key called failed of type Boolean and uncheck it.
Save the manifest.plist and close it.
    Open the Mac App Store.
The red message "an error has occured" should now be gone and one should be able to resume one's download.
In the event that the ~/Library/Application Support/AppStore folder gets deleted:
start the download again (it will start from the beginning), pause it and close the Mac App Store.
copy your backup copy of the pkg file back to its sub-folder (it's a numbered folder in the ~/Library/Application Support/AppStore folder).
Open the Mac App Store and resume your download.
It should continue from where it left off.
This has worked for me so far. I'm holding my breath. Don't know if I'll still be alive when it's finished.
    Regards
    Nic

  • HT202159 I have partially downloaded OS X Mountain Lion ...

I have partially downloaded OS X Mountain Lion. I lost my internet connection and my download stopped. I put my computer to sleep and took it somewhere else with a different connection to finish the download. Where I am, internet isn't very fast and so a download requires me to leave it on overnight . I got 3GB out of the 4GB the way there when this happened so I'd really like to avoid starting this over again.
When I go to purchases on the Mac App Store it says "An error has occurred" with a blank grey box next to it, and clicking it does nothing. Clicking "Check for unfinished downloads" also does nothing. Clicking "buy app" and it tells me I can download the app for free, and then it just hangs and nothing happens.
Is there a way to find the partially downloaded file on my Mac and restart where I left off?

Same issue.  I went into Activity Monitor and killed the stalled process.  When I restarted App Store, the download started from scratch.  I assumed that my earlier download had been overwritten, and sure enough, it had been.  I followed these instructions to reveal the temp directory:
    http://reviews.cnet.com/8301-13727_7-57480536-263/tackling-mountain-lion-downloa d-errors/
There was only one file in there (mzm.whodaifs.pkg), and it's the same size as currently indicated by the App Store progress bar.  No 2.5GB file in sight.  At least that's not going to sit around taking up HD space.
I've come across this other method for restarting downloads:
    http://www.ryanragle.com/index.php?/site/comments/where-does-the-mac-app-store-d ownload-temp-files-to
Though it's now a moot question, I might try the debug menu method if it happens again.

  • Ever since I downloaded OS X Mountain Lion on my iMac, the Safari won't often (most of the time) and I have to restart to open a web page.  What is going on?  What can I do?

Ever since I downloaded OS X Mountain Lion on my iMac, the Safari won't open.  It loads half way and then stops.  Same thing happens when we try to open a web page.  If I restart the computer, it will then work.  What is going on?  What can I do?  Help!

It will but it's only a temporary fix, ideally you should get a large external drive and move your photo library to it, do this (info)
Apple Menu>About This Mac>More Info>Storage, you will get a graphic that looks like the one below, post it here.

  • After downloading OS X Mountain Lion, my mac has become very slow

After downloading OS X Mountain Lion, my mac has become very slow and takes a bit to shut down programmes. What can i do to bring it back up to the speed it was when i had OS X Lion

    LouieAustin wrote:

Though I wish it were true, it is unrealistic to put 200+ new features into OS X and expect Mountain Lion to run faster and more efficient than Lion on the same hardware. I moved up from Lion to Mountain Lion. Mine is slowing down, but not very slow, as you mentioned. Safari and Mail are simply swine on launch. Check the following:
Patience. If you are impatient and detail alters your mood, take your MBP to the Apple Genius bar.
CPU. If you have a supported, but older MBP, your CPU may be showing its age.
Memory. 4GB or 8GB in your MBP? Mountain Lion drinks more than Lion and if you run multiple large memory footprint applications, 4GB will be a performance bottleneck. My HD3000 graphics takes 512MB. Check the System Information report for your memory. Is it OK?
Compatibility. Sometimes, hardware peripherals and applications are not entirely compatible with a new OS release, and divert OS performance to system log entries. A symptom is a large (> 2GB) system log file at /var/log/system.log. I just discovered a bad USB hub this way. Unplug everything and evaluate your performance again. Zero [ # > /var/log/system.log] the log file if you have the permissions.
Permissions. Launch Disk Utility and verify/repair Disk Permissions on your Mountain Lion disk. While there, might as well Verify Disk too.
Preferences. Sometimes, older preferences do not play well with upgraded application compatibility for a new OS release. It might be worthwhile to delete the specific preference and its lock file from Lion.
Caches. As routine, just before I shutdown the system, I will move the contents of /Users/name/Library/Caches to the Trash. I tolerate Adobe Flash and use their preferences panel to delete all Flash content. Then on reboot, I delete the Trash. Application performance improves as a result.
File Directory. Everytime that I upgrade OS X and run the retail Disk Warrior 4.4, it reports 25% storage fragmentation. Repairing and rebuilding the File Directory always restores noticeable I/O performance.
Storage. If within your budget, upgrade to an SSD. Otherworld Computing has MBP SSD solutions.
Applications. Some non-Apple applications may need recompilation for Mountain Lion, or behavior may be questionable. I compile my own MacVim editor from github sources. The same 64-bit binary that was compiled with XCode 4.3 on Lion, misbehaved on Mountain Lion. Rebuilt it with XCode 4.4 and worked fine.
