Hate/Love yosemite

I have a Officejet 7401 (28CDAB) HP printer and since I upgraded to Yosemite it won't print,copy or scan, heck the on off light won't even come on but the little moniter light with the HP logo does come on. Is there a way to get this up and running or do I have to change from HP to another type printer? I need one today!!! I have a home business...help

I'd like to help you with your 7400 series printer. I am not familiar with the 7401, I wonder if maybe you have the 7410, possible typo?

Let's perform a hard reset. To do so, leave the printer on and unplug the power cable for 1 minute. While it is unplugged, hold down the power button on the printer for 10-15 seconds to release any built up power, then after the minute has passed, plug the printer back in. Once the printer is on again, we can perform a copy. If the printer can copy, I am sure the issue is not hardware related, but I feel it is important to test the hardware before we continue. If the issue is hardware related, it is only coincidental that the issue begin when you upgraded to Yosemite, but it is certainly unrelated. If you can copy, please proceed to the next set of steps.
Reset Printing System
Click the Apple icon (   ), and then click System Preferences.
In the Hardware section, click Print & Fax/Scan. The Print & Fax/Scan dialog box opens.
Right-click (or  Ctrl  +click) in the left panel, and then click Reset printing system…
Click OK to confirm the reset.
Type the correct Name and Password.
Click OK to reset the printing system. The Print & Fax dialog box shows no printer selected
Note: This will remove all printers in the print and Fax/Scan, any printer removed can be re-added later by clicking the plus (+) symbol.
Repair Disk Permissions
On the Dock, click Applications, and then click Utilities.
Double-click Disk Utility.
Highlight your hard drive/partition on the left (by default this is "Macintosh HD").
Click the Repair Disk Permissions button at the bottom of the window.
Once the repair is complete, restart the computer and download and install the HP Printer Drivers for OS X.
Now when you add the printer, you should have the HP driver to choose. If for any reason your printer driver is not there, then select the AirPrint driver.
Select Add other Printer or Scanner
Select the printer you are adding and next to 'Use' you can select the printer driver (or AirPrint)
This document explains how to scan a document from a Mac running Yosemite. Although a full feature Yosemite driver is not available to download for your printer, you can scan from the Mac with the driver from Apple Software Update. Follow the steps in this document to install the driver, and then scan from either Apple Preview, Apple Image Capture, or the Print and Scan window.

Yosemite calendar syncing and other issues

Hello all,
I am running latest versions of IOS 8 on IPAD Air2, iPhone5S and latest Yosemite on IMAC intel last year model.
There are few issues here....
In Mavericks when I edited an event in calendars it would show up almost immediately on my phone. No more. In Yosemite I would edit an event and it seems like a 50/50 chance it would RETAIN in the Yosemite calendar. And if it does, it does no sync across devices. This is a pain in my ***.
Second issue is when I use the 'shutdown' feature top left corner of OS X, the unit would begin to shut down then the spinning logo would keep spinning and unit would never shut down. The energy saver would take effect. I come from work thinking it was shut down, press the power button on back and the unit 'wakes' and continues with spinning shutdown logo.
Third issue, my iPhone randomly asks for the iCloud password, even though it is enable across all of my three devices.
Other than these issues I love Yosemite and IOS 8, but these are really kicking me from behind.

I have the same problem. Events entered on the macbook are not going to the cloud.

Genau wie bei Mavericks und Mountain Lion hat auch Yosemite Probleme, in iTunes Geräte (iPhone & iPad) über WLAN zu 'halten'.
Nicht selten verliert das OS vor oder beim Synchronisieren die Geräte und sie verschwinden vollständig aus iTunes.
Abhilfe schafft (seit Yosemite) meist nur einmal per Lightning an den Mac anstöpseln und wieder ab.
Mavericks hat sie meist selbstständig nach einer Zeit wiedergefunden.

Do they have plans to fix the bugs with Yosemite. I keep losing internet connection on my Mac Book

Ever since i installed Yosemite on my Mac Book pro i keep losing internet connection. Should I go back to mavericks because I just hate this Yosemite or do they plan to fix the bugs soon? I did a complete clean install and I am still having problems. I see a lot of complicated solutions and I am not that tech savvy to go into my settings. Thanks

All software has bugs. The first release (which you have) will be the worst.
Many advocate not upgrading to a new operating system until it's been out for 3 months or longer. In the Windows world many recommend not upgrading until a full year has passed.
So yes, most / some bugs and glitches will get fixed over time. If you wish to reduce your difficulties in the future wait a while before installing ANY new OS.
I suggest you post specific details on your Internet problems. How are you connected etc.

Calendar won't sync across devices and other issues

OK, are you sure the events you are adding are added to an icloud calendar, only iCloud calendars will sync. Tap the calendar button to make sure all your calendars are iCloud calendars. Are changes making it to iCloud.com

ANuB figures out how == overlap transparent gif in a JPanel!

I have to say I have a hate/love realtionship with this forum. Sorry if I ofend but I know it's hard sometimes to get an answer for help as it is purely voluntary. But I've asked help for this a bazillion times and help has been min to null, but I want to say I'm hoping to post something to help someone how to figure out how to Overlap a transparent image or transparent gif over another in a custom JPanel and display it when an action is called. You guys are right about setting the background color outside of the paint method. I was more pre-occupied with trying to overlap the images. So now I have it set. NOW I need to draw each item when it is selected with a JCheckBox and I can't think of a good way to do that. Is there a way to undraw an image? I suppose I've gone too long w/o sleep. "View only" Calendar has alerts for invitees (but shouldn't)

I am sharing a calendar with my wife that's basically my work schedule. Because I don't want her making any edits, I've shared it as a "View Only" calendar. The odd thing, however, is that some of the events on her end have alerts, while they don't mine. I've tried everything I can think of, including removing her and then reinviting her, but no matter what, event "X" on her end has a 2-day alert set while on my end (and across all my devices" the alert setting is "none." This is proving to be an issue because it's a recurring event.
Any help is appreciated.

I think things may have straightened themselves out. I basically went back through all the troubleshooting steps again and this time something must have clicked. iCloud, I hate/love you.

Calling from Mac

I love Yosemite's new feature allowing me to take calls from my iPhone with my Mac. However the one major problem I keep running into is when I need to use the dialpad to deal with an electronic menu. For the most part, the phone is usually near me, but here's the problem...when I go to use the dialpad, it transfers the call to my phone. There doesn't seem to be any way to set it up not to do this. I know there have been some rumblings about an app that includes a dialpad, since there isn't one in Facetime...anyone come up with a workaround?

Don't ever buy a electronic device then.
There is not a single piece of consumer electronics anywhere that a few people dont have problems with or understand how to use.
The Press hates/loves Apple.
Anything that involves Apple products gets seized upon and blown out of proportion.
The obsessive stalkery following of rumors, pouncing on perceived flaws or spreading FUD about a product because a few people post stuff in the support forums.
It's very predictable and rather disgusting.

No favicon showing in Safari 8.0 sidebar

Although I love Yosemite a bunch, I have one problem with Safari 8.0. As a visually impaired guy, I find it extremely useful to see the colored favicons in the sidebar of Safari under Mavericks. Now they have disappeared, and are replaced by a generic bookmark symbol. Is there any way at all to get back the old look? It has become so difficult for me to find sites with this new version. Perhaps a third-party plugin exists or I just missed something in the preferences. Although I love and use VoiceOver for much of my work, this is little help in searching the sidebar.

Love / Hate Relationship with Photoshop Elements

I am having a love/hate relationship with Photoshop Elements! Love the page design capabilities and hate the lack of capability on the print end. Kodak does not give any choice in the book they will print from Elements. All I can get is a #$%& die cut cover! Is there anyway that I can order other options that I know Kodak has available when creating a book using Elements and their site. I want to be able to choose a custom cover! I have tried Kodak to get answers. I have tried Adobe (impossible, unless maybe you pay). Neither are very helpful! The only answers I get are use the Elements designed pages and place them onto pages that you create in their software. Problem is that one needs a jpeg file to do this. No online program seems to recognize .PSD or .PSE file types. HELP!

Yeah, the photobook print options are limited. (Although, the built in Kodak and Shutterfly books are very nice)
One thing to try differently is to use the Print At Home selection on that first screen after the clicking on the PhotoBook option (assuming you are using PSE8 here) (use Photo Collage with PSE7)
Down that path, you will get a few more choices in page size. It will still create a multi-page document (a .pse) while your building your book, and when done, you can print the pages of the book out as a .pdf. Many book printing services will take in a PDF.
Another option is to do a single page at a time and save them as .jpg's. A little more work in keeping your various files together and ordered properly, but it would give you ultimate flexibility.

Aperture 3.1 - Love Full Screen Mode, Hate The System Lock-Ups

Hi Guys,
I don't know if I'm the only person encountering this issue but Aperture 3 is driving me nuts. While I absolutely love the program and the full-screen mode, what I hate is the frequent lock-ups that force me to completely restart my iMac. Having the application lock-up is highly annoying but at least in "normal" mode I could kill the application from the Dock or Activity Monitor. However, when I'm operating in full-screen mode then I can't switch out of the application and seem to have no option but to completely restart my computer. This problem, which I first started experiencing with version 3.0 but which does seem to have been addressed in version 3.1, is happening so often that I'm afraid now to even use full-screen mode.
This problem only, to my memory, seems to happen when making adjustments but it does not seem to matter which adjustment. In the most recent occurrence the lock-up happened when I cancelled the application of a Crop by clicking the X icon on the Crop HUD.
Does anyone know either a) what might be causing the lock-ups, or b) how I can kill Aperture without having to completely restart my computer?

You could also set up SPACES to see if that works when lock up occurs in full screen
Apple Icon > System Preference > Desktop & Screen Saver > Hot corners
I have bottom left set to spaces
Then drop the mouse to bottom left, 4 windows appear, drag aperture to a seperate window and run there, you desktop is in a different space and can be accessed by bottom left of screen mouse movement (if the mouse works when A3 locks up)

Love/hate my time capsule

Can I just tell you all that I have a love/hate relationship with Time Capsule?
I love that it automatically makes backups that I can go back in time to retrieve.
I hate how it grabs so much procecessing power when it is doing it's thing. I use Photoshop, After Effects and Cinema 4D often and time capsule seems to know when I am using those programs and decides THAT is the best time to begin backups. At that point the machine slows to a crawl. Arghhhhh!
End of mini-rant....

Just to be clear.. your love hate is with Time Machine..
That is the software that decided ... ahhh now he is in the middle of important work.. lets do a backup right now and kill it.
Time Capsule is a dumb as a board router with a hard disk in it.
Methinks you need.. a better computer.. C2D won't cut it if you are running mulitple applications.

DSL and wireless ~ love/hate relationship

Well, I'm back. Starting a new post but adding the old so those interested in this little soap opera love/hate relationship between my DSL and wireless WRT54G router can follow along without commercials.....

It's becoming a tiring game, trying to second guess my router....what will restore the connection today? Everything is working wireless BUT the connection needs to repaired continually:
The Wii won't connect so we boot up either the laptop or the desktop computer, then all of a sudden the Wii connects.
The desktop takes forever (around 10 minutes) to connect but once it does, it either works fast or each page load will take forever....never know till you're in there working.
Sometimes turning the wireless router and DSL off will reset it and it will work fine.
Sometimes running a network diagnostic resets the system.
Sometimes doing a repair on the network will do it.
We did learn that plugging in the ethernet chord makes for instant access, so we know its not the DSL or the ISP itself.
any suggestions? Is it time to break up with my old wireless router and find a hot new young thing? Or is there something else going on that I haven't worked out yet?

Have you tried upgrading the router's firmware...?
You can try by upgrading/reflashing the router's firmware.After upgrading/reflashing the router's firmware,reset the router and reconfigure it from scratch.
