Hate new photos- original iPhoto blocked in applications.
It seems that if you have an older mac you will be able to simply open the original iPhotos in the applications folder. However, my October 2014 macbook pro came with Yosemite loaded. I tried opening and received this message: "The version of iPhoto (9.6) installed on this Mac is not compatible with OS X Yosemite. Download the latest version for free from the Mac App Store."
Of course it came with this version and now it is no longer available from the store. Any suggestions as to how to revert back? Thank you.

iPhoto - When I add new photos to iPhoto from my iMac they do not appear in the "Photos" library. They do appear in Last Import. Any thoughts?
If you are seeing your photos in "Last Import", the photos are somewhere in your library. Perhaps the dates are wrong, and you do not see the photos arranged by date, where you expect them to be.
Select one of the photos on "Last Import", then ctrl-click it and select "Show in Event". That will take you to the event in event view. -
Trying to sync new photos from iphoto without having the old photo synced on ipad2 but when I select sync from iphoto the old photos are already included. How do I stop itunes from preselecting photos? Already tried selecting "selected albums, events, and faces, and automatically include" then I enter "no Events" with no success the photos still are being synced along with the new photos. I want to be able to add new photo and remove old photos. Please help this has taken a lot of my time trying to figure it out.
If I knew the answer I would have given it - but since it is not an iPhoto question I suggested
You might try the iPad forum - or the iTunes forum - this really is not an iPhoto question

Disk Repair after new photos in iPhoto?
I recently noticed that sometimes (once every 2-3 months) the disk repair (in disk utility) I have to perform is associated to new photos importation in iPhoto.
This usually happen when I have to import big photo volumes.
For example, today I had to import almost 1000 photos and during scan disk I had about 10 error about incorrect blocks associates to photos. I crosscheck those photos and they were ok. I did disk repair with CMD-R after during restart. Everything was performed correctly and now no error anymore.
Is there any special thing have to worry about since this often happens in association with iPhoto? There is something awry there but no idea what. I frequently deal in larger batches of images and have performed disk repairs about 5 times in owning Mac for more than 20 years. Whatever issue you're having is not to do with iPhoto. I'd ask on the forum for your particulate Mac why you're repairing the disk so often.

Hello,
I have iPhoto 11 installed on my MacBook. I am now unable to import new photos using USB or by plugging the camera directly into the laptop. Never had that probem before with this camera. Perhaps just reinstall iPhoto from the iLife disk?Hello Terence,
Okay I will try reformating the camera's card. However all is well when I export photos to my iMac at home or onto my iPad.
If your suggestion does not work should I try reinstalling iPhoto from the iLife disk? If so, how do I go about doing that or is there a website somewhere explaining this?

iPhoto 9.5.1
iOS 8.0.2
Mac Mavericks 10.9.5
Using iTunes, when I sync my selected iPhoto albums (on the Mac) to my iPhone and iPad, new photos added to those albums on my Mac are no longer added to the albums on those devices, but rather are orphaned as loose photos. Or, if they ARE added, it's only through half a dozen trial-and-error tricks I've tried. I never know for sure what trick is working, so I have to ask if there's an easier, dependable way to get albums or folders from my Mac to sync into what's on my devices. I don't want every single photo I have on my Mac on those devices. JUST selected, categorized photo albums so that I can show off categories of my paintings and sculptures to clients.
If iPhoto is being phased out, what's the easier option for creating albums in my "photos" app on my devices and moving those photos from my Mac to the albums?Use the rebuild function in iPhoto Library Manager. That does not require a purchase. (In early versions of Library Manager it's the File -> Rebuild command. In later versions it's under the Library menu.)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one. -
Imovie will not show new photos from iphoto?
The imovie project I'm working on needs several photos that I recently downloaded. However when going into the photo section of imovie these new photos do not appear in the album that they have been placed in.
Is there anyway to get them to appear?
Any help would be appreciated!limey1
Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
It's a while since i used v5 but I think this is true.
Whereas with early version of iPhoto there was a separate folder for each album, starting at v5 the app doesn;t do that. Instead the album information is stored as part of the main database file. At heart, it's a direction to the app to display certain pics together. The advantage being that a single pics can be many, many albums with no wasted disk space.

After I transferred most of my photos and videos to an external hard drive and afterward to the trash can, that I have emtied, I still get the same message from iPhoto that I have only limites space left. What should I do? I read that the photos are being stored still on the computer's hard drive ( I have never used Time Machine) but I cannot find them? I would like to know where they are being stored so I could delete them. I would appreciate your comments on this issue.
How big is your HD? How much free space on it?
You delete photos from iPhoto via the iPhoto Window.

Import new photos into iphoto, browser not seeing recent "last import"
I use several web based applications that ask to upload photos. I go into browse and iphoto and for some reason it won't pull the last imported photos - it is as if the browser is caching the old events and last import. When I exit FireFox and iPhoto and restart my machine it will see them. I must be missing a plug in or something - any ideas?????

All my previous events disappear when I import new photos into iphoto?
Each time I import photos from my Canon digital camera into my iphoto, the new import is the only event that shows. I can't access any menues or events in iphoto; when I open iphoto from the dock, only my most recent event opens. To import photos from my camera, I open iphoto, connect the USB cord to my camera and the USB port on my computer, and click import. The next time I open my iphoto, nothing is there except my last import. When this happened a few weeks ago, I looked at the discussions and found out how to rebuild the library, which I did, but I can't do that every time I import photos. What is happening? What is wrong with my iphoto?
It sounds like you have a damaged database.
Try these in order - from best option on down...
1. Do you have an up-to-date back up? If so, try copy the library6.iphoto file from the back up to the iPhoto Library (Right Click -> Show Package Contents) allowing it to overwrite the damaged file.
2. Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.
3. If neither of these work then you'll need to create and populate a new library.
To create and populate a new library:
Note this will give you a working library with the same Events and pictures as before, however, you will lose your albums, keywords, modified versions, books, calendars etc.
In the iPhoto Preferences -> Events Uncheck the box at 'Imported Items from the Finder'
Move the iPhoto Library to the desktop
Launch iPhoto. It will ask if you wish to create a new Library. Say Yes.
Go into the iPhoto Library (Right Click -> Show Package Contents) on your desktop and find the Originals folder. From the Originals folder drag the individual Event Folders to the iPhoto Window and it will recreate them in the new library.
When you're sure all is well you can delete the iPhoto Library on your desktop.
In the future, in addition to your usual back up routine, you might like to make a copy of the library6.iPhoto file whenever you have made changes to the library as protection against database corruption.
As to why you have repeated corruption - Are you running a Managed or a Referenced Library?
If you're running a Managed library, then it's the default setting, and iPhoto copies files into the iPhoto Library when Importing
If you're running a Referenced Library, then you made a change at iPhoto -> Preferences -> Advanced and iPhoto is NOT copying the files into the iPhoto Library when importing.

How to sort and organise albums in the new photos like iPhoto?
I want to view my albums on Photos by listing them from up to down like in iPhoto events. And when I click the title the album will pop down open. I can also simply drag photos from other album to another album easily. I don't want the albums to be in thumbnails view. How do I do that?

Is it possible to make them load automatically in Photos too?I want to view my albums on Photos by listing them from up to down like in iPhoto. Reveal the sidebar: The sidebar lists your albums as a list by name.
To show the Sidebar use the command:
View: Show Sidebar ⌥⌘S
With the sidebar open you can click an album to reveal the photos and drag them to another album in the sidebar.
And in iPhoto, when I connect my iPhone to Mac and open iPhoto, the latests photos will automatically load on iPhoto. Is it possible to make them load automatically in Photos too?
Connect your iPhone, launch Photos, click the icon of your iPhone in the "Import" section of the sidebar. You will see a checkmark "Open Photos for this device". Enable it. -
Imported new photos to iPhoto - can I now delete the old folders?
I just finished importing a bunch of photos from folders on my Mac into iPhoto. Can I now delete those folders?
As long as you have iPhoto setup to copy photos into the library (a managed library) when imported
you can delete the folders.

Good Afternoon All,
I'd be grateful for any help with the following problem.
After importing about 30 photos from my camera into iPhoto '09 (version 8.1.2), I selected the first group of 10 and dragged and dropped them into an existing album in my iPhoto library. I repeated this process with another group of photos , dropping them into a different existing album. Again, I repeated this process with the last remaining photos from the original imported group of 30.
This is exactly the same process I have used successfully on many previous occasions when adding to my iPhoto library of 6000+ photos.
However when I later opened each of the 3 existing albums to check on the 30 new photos none of these new photos were visible. Instead each of the three albums now contained between 5 and 15 duplicates of old photos from different and unrelated albums in addition to their normal content. These duplicates were not present before I imported the 30 new photos. I then opened every Album in my entire library of 6000+ photos without finding any sign of the 30 new photos. These 30 photos have also disappeared from "Last Import" which now shows a blank page with 0 imports.
I still have the 30 new photos saved on my camera and could import them again. My concern is that with my very limited diagnostic skills re. my iMac OS X (10.6.8) I may aggravate the problem
Thank youMorning Terence
Thank you for your suggestion. When I held the Option Key and opened iPhoto the resulting menu showed 2 libraries , "iPhoto Library" and "iPhoto Library (default )".
I then recalled that 12 months ago I had created this duplicate library when attempting to recover some lost photos. On opening each of these two libraries in turn, I notice that they are not identical. Rather than create another new library, I imported some new photos into "iPhoto Library " and was then able to drag and drop successfully into this library. When I tried to do the same with "iPhoto Library (default )" all the problems originally described re-occured.
Having found the problem is in the Default library I would now like to move some photos from it into "iPhoto Library" and then remove the Default Library.
Could you recommend how best to do this or is it not a good idea?

Iphoto shut down importing new photo (and rebuilding thumbnails too)
I'm using iphoto '11 9.1.15 (615) and i think it is the latest one and Lion.
I last imported some photos on july 02 and everything was right. Then after july 14 i installed Lion and i could also use iphoto but for some day i have used it only to see my old photo.
Same day ago i tried to import new photo and iphoto had sudden shut down during import.
First i have tried to rebuild library using cmd alt at start up, issue remained.
So using cmd alt at iphoto start up I cheecked all and i have obteined only that now thumbnails are disappeared.
Now also if I try to rebulid thumnails iphoto immediatly shuts.
I've tried to rebuid library using Iphoto Library Manager butI have this message of error:
iPhoto has unexpectedly quit while importing the event "Rullino ...". If you would like to relaunch iPhoto and continue the merge starting with the event "Rullino ...", click "Continue". If you would like to continue, but skip the event "Rullino ...", click "Skip". If you would like to stop the merge, click "Cancel".
Repairing permissions of Iphto and of iphoto library didn't help.
At end i have tried also using a new account and a new library importi a single photo adn issue is still there.
Any time I start iphoto it says "rebuilding thumbnails cache" but nothing happen.
No message of error appear when iphoto shuts improperly is there any places were i could look for it ? (Logs ?)
I think to have said evrything helping you to help me but i'try to answer any of yours question.
Thank for your help
Mario Agostiniat the and a crash has happened.
may be of help ?
