Have 5 devices, only one apple ID, iCloud should be 5 gb per device not per account.

Do I really have to create multible id's in order to be able to backup using iCloud. I have 2 iPad, 1 iPhone and 2 iPod and I still only get 5 gb of storage, but if I create a new account for each device I get 5 Gb each? Why?

It's 5 GB per account, regardless of how many devices are connected to that account. If you need more space, Apple provides the option to buy additional storage. If you want each of your devices to sync the same email, contacts, calendars, reminders, notes, etc. then use just one account, otherwise get a different account for each device.

She can create a new Apple ID at http://appleid.apple.com and sign into System Preferences>iCloud with that instead of the existing one; but continue to use the existing one for iTunes.

You have to follow the process outlined here to recover contacts from an iCloud backup: Recovering deleted iCloud contacts from an iCloud backup.. Otherwise, as you have noticed, the recovered contacts are overwritten when your device reconnects to iCloud.

You can share the same iTunes ID on all your devices and still have different iCloud accounts with different IDs on them. The ID you use for iTunes does not need to be the same as the ID used for iCloud.
If you want to migrate your devices to separate accounts, on the devices that will be moving save any photo stream photos to your camera roll by opening the photo stream album in the thumbnail view, tapping Edit, then tap all the photos you want to save, tap Share and tap Save to Camera Roll. Also email any synced notes to yourself so you can recreate them in the new account. Finally, if you are syncing any iWork documents with iCloud, go to the iWork app settings and turn off iCloud syncing.
Once this is done, go to Settings>iCloud, scroll to the bottom and tap Delete Account. (This will only delete the account from this phone, not from iCloud. The phone that will be keeping the account will not be effected by this.) When prompted about what to do with the iCloud data, be sure to select Keep On My iPhone. Next, set up a new iCloud account using a different Apple ID (if you don't have one, tap Get a Free Apple ID at the bottom). Then turn iCloud data syncing for contacts, etc. back to On, and when prompted about merging with iCloud, choose Merge. This will upload the data to the new account.
Once the phones are all on separate accounts you can then have to go to icloud.com on your computer and sign into each iCloud account separately and manually delete the data you don't want from each account.

I have two phones on one apple ID. After one updated yesterday on icloud it automatically took my contacts off and put the other ones on there. They still show up if I actually type them in when texting but not in the list.

You'll have to migrate one of the phones to a different account, then delete the other person's data from each account (you can continue to share the same Apple ID for purchasing from the iTunes and app stores).

On the iPad open Settings/iCloud and delete the account using the button at the bottom. Once deleted log in using the other account. For iTunes Stores use Settings/iTunes & Apps Stores, tapp on the Apple ID at the top then sign out. Once done sign in using the other account. Once you are happy with the changes plug your iPad into your computer to update the backup.

Also, I'd prefer to keep the same ID on both so I will keep access to my calendar/contacts/etc on both devices. Would I be able to share reminders and voice memos and the like as well? And how often would they update each other? If I edit a contact on the 5, and the 4 is in wifi, assuming they're both on my same ID, will the contact update on the 4?

I added a new post to my iTunes U course and it is not showing up on one of my student's iPads. She has only one Apple ID on the iPad. Any assistance is appreciated.

A new post to my iTunes U course shows up in my course both on my Mac and my iPad Air, as well as on other students' iPads, but for one single student. We have closed the app and forced shutdown. Student recently added more icloud space, but that is all. iPad is up-to-date in terms of iOS and iTunesU app. The student has only one Apple ID associated with her iPad.
We have reposted two more times. The second time the post showed up for a few seconds, but then disappeared. It does not show up under any other section (assignments, discussions, etc). Any assistance is greatly appreciated.

Have you contacted Apple support?
I don't know if these will work, but you could have the student try the following:
logout of his or her iTunes U (i.e., iTunes Store) account using Settings
force-quit iTunes U
relaunch iTunes U
sign in to the newly launched app when prompted

I found some instructions about Internet Sharing, in System Prefs, etc. "From: Ethernet, To: Airport" Enable Internet Sharing, and all...She did everything, by the book (or so, she thinks) but nothing shows on her Iphone Wi-Fi Settings when she tries to connect... I also read that it could be done with a Bluetooth PAN, but I got lost, as I tried to follow the instructions here at home, after pairing computer and Phone, with a "rude" message appearing on my phone telling me to "forget that device". We have 3 family members who all sync our iPhones/iPads/iPods to the same computer. My son can't access and download past purchases from his iTunes acct to our computer, because it says ONLY ONE Apple ID can be associated with the computer every 90 days, and I just downloaded a movie this week from my own account. Now, my son has to wait 90 days to access his own purchases. I feel I should have access to my purchases any time I want, as should my son and any other family members who use this computer. The number of devices authorized to access iTunes Store purchases is already set to five (which we do not exceed) so, why this additional restriction? I don't understand why Apple would restrict me from accessing our own purchases.

This bothers me so much. It is absolutely ridiculous. I use my Apple ID as well as a family member's Apple ID to download music.
Every once in a while I will purchase a song and it won't download correctly or will give me an error that my computer is not authorized, a solution I usually fix by deleting and redownloading the song from the cloud. This doesn't work, however, when it happens to both accounts within 90 days.
It is incredibly frustrating to me that I have paid for a song, it downloaded incorrectly, and I must wait 90 days to try downloading it again because of these assinine policies.

I've been trying to figure out a clean way to do this too. I think you may need more than one Apple ID – one that is shared and used to purchase "sharable" items and then "individual" Apple IDs for you and your son. That's the idea that I'm pursuing for the moment.
It seems that there must be a way to do this, App Store purchases for the Mac are licensed across multiple machines. iPhone app purchases have "all your devices" licensing. Makes me think that Apple has a process in mind for sharing an account (or associating a device with multiple accounts).
Other things I've learned:
- Apparently you can't merge Apple ID accounts. I asked about this once at an Apple Store and was told that there was no way to do it.
- If you share an Apple ID the Messages app behaves in a somewhat surprising manner. It must use your Apple ID to decide where messages should be sent because all users get all messages. This can make it very hard to organize a surprise party :-)
