I have an old iPhone 3G with iOS 3.1.2 on it. I want to update it to 4.2.1 but can't find the update anywhere?
Can someone post a link? I have downloaded the new version of iTunes 10.5.1?

This is not very iTunes Public Site Manager related... but I was in the same situation as you a little while ago.
1 - Sync/back up your old 3gs.
2 - Activatie your new phone when connected to itunes via cable and it will ask you if you want to restore our old phone.
3 - ???

might also work with icloud but i have not tried that method.

No, it won't ruin the battery. You can stop/start charging iPhone batteries whenever you want, although it is better to give it a full charge the very first time so that the charging cycle starts fully.

I have looked around here. And I've actually in person helped a number of people clear a jailbreak from an iPhone and they work fine. The OPs biggest hurdle is likely to be the process of obtaining an unlock from the cell provider.
The mistake many people make is waiting to Restore until the unlock is approved. They should Restore prior to even getting the unlock approval then do it again after they receive it.
As most people know who have been here awhile we see the ones who have problems, not the ones who have successfully done the process.

Seems like people having this problem are those coming from a phone that doesn't have a nano SIM card...so when Verizon issues them one they end up changing their plan. No clue why this keeps happening but stay on top of them. As long as you initiated the request for your plan to be reinstated within the 14 day time frame they should put it back. Interested in seeing how this plays out. There is still one phone in my house that hasn't been upgraded (an iPhone 4). You can transfer the purchases you made on your old iPhone 3 by plugging it in to iTunes and doing File > Devices > Transfer Purchases from your IPhone to the iTunes on your computer. This will get music you purchased in iTunes, apps, etc. (e.g., movies).
But for the rest you would need to restore a backup of your newly deceased computer.

- iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
- Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

- If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.

The odds are that you downloaded AirPort Utility 5.6.1.....which will only work with Leopard and Snow Leopard Macs.
