Have anchor points snap to grid changed?

My anchor points used to snap to the grid when using the pen tool on a 1px before in Adobe Illustrator CC 2014. Has this changed for this version?
If not, does anyone know how I would be able to enable this feature again? I have all my snap to grid settings etc. on.

THIS IS REALLY FRUSTRATING (and I'm not the type to use all caps all over the place).  Here are the repro steps (in case that were helpful):
Illustrator CS6
Turn on snap to grid.
Create a circle.
Drag out each of the handles closer to the corners of the circle's space.
Notice that the handles snap to the intersection points on the grid.
Illustrator CC (18.0.0)
Turn on snap to grid.
Create a circle (move it around to double-ensure that snap to grid is functioning properly for the shape).
Drag out each of the handles.
Notice that there is no way to ensure that the handles move in the exact same amount all the way around the circle. They do not snap.
Try the scale tool. Select a point and hit ‘s’, then drag out a handle. Notice that it still doesn’t snap to point.
This sort of thing is suicide for Illustrator. It’s the one program that should let you make whatever vector shape you want without having to resort to crazy workarounds. How can we make awesome things like this without the kind of control we used to have in Illustrator?
BTW, there's another thread on this topic too:
Restore snap-to-grid behaviour for path handles

    You're welcome.
There are a couple of issues connected to it:

  • Pen tool: handles snapping to grid not functioning

Since it was not answered by the Adobe Illustrator CC staff, I'll ask again:
I use the handles snapping to grid functionality extensively when creating icons and other detail-intensive shapes. How do I re-enable this feature, or is it necessary to revert to an older, more functional version of Illustrator?
This is very frustrating, such a simple feature and, for no logical reason, it has been removed from Illustrator. Makes me regret updating and paying for Illustrator CC.

there was a discussion on this when the feature was first removed. did you see it? I think a support staff member posted in it, but nothing positive...
edit: yeah, it was just people complaining and the staff guy stating that this was indeed the case.

  • How can I snap anchor points to grid?

I am trying to snap anchor points to the grid so I don't have to eye-ball the curves. Is there a way that I can do this?

  • HowTo: Turn on snapping for Anchor Point of Rectangle's Transform?

I do not mean the Transform of the Shape Layer, I mean to have snapping of the Transform of the path object (in this case a Rectangle) anchor point snap to... well, anything. Right now I can't get it to snap to anything.

Rick, why spend ages explaining what can be done with something irrelevant to the question, when the question is very simple.
    QUESTION:
How can snapping be turned on for the anchor of contents within a Shape Layer?
    The answer is...
There is no way to snap the anchor of an object in a shape layer to ANYTHING.
So don't bother trying to find out how to turn it on, play with modifier keys or otherwise go insane trying to find documentation that actually pertains to this information in ANY WAY.
The amount of time I wasted trying to find if this was possible is an embarrassment to the documentation writers and marketers of Adobe's products.
//This is the transform and its anchor that exists above the actual Layer's transform and Anchor. NOT the Shape Layer's anchor, which does snap, but is next to useless for object oriented snapping requirements for the anchor and position of the actual objects drawn on the Shape Layer. It's as though the Shape Layer is really a Solid Layer with some additional, halfarsed drawing features. Good luck differentiating between these two things with search results using the world's best search engine. It's a complete mindFart of epic proportions that finds such terrible ways to name these things that there's no easier way to refer to the differences in these transforms.
You cannot snap the anchor of content in a Shape Layer to a grid, guide, edge, object, point or anything else.
It cannot be done. That's the only answer to this question.
This despite there being a specific tool for moving this anchor point.
This despite Adobe bragging about snapping being a big new (recent) feature.
Rick, why do you defend Adobe? They are an enormous company with thousands of employees and billions of $ in profits and assets. They don't need you to obfuscate shortcomings in their software.
How hard is it to say that Adobe's software can't do something?
You know why Adobe annoy people, because we waste so much time finding what it can't do, because the marketers AND the community are in denial about deficiencies and the constant need for thinking in terms of "work arounds".
Just be honest about shortcomings and deficiencies and it will not only save everyone a bunch of time, but actually endear them to you.

  • [newbie] Sharing anchor points across paths/shapes? + Pen visual feedback? + Show all paths?

Hey all, as stated I'm a newbie at Illustrator. Any help's appreciated. My questions:
    1) Is it possible to have anchor points be part of more than 1 path? I want to have 2 adjacent filled paths that share anchor points, so that if I move the common edge anchors, both shapes are affected. Kinda like in Flash, I suppose.
My guess is this is impossible though? Then how do people working with Illustrator a lot tackle this problem? I mean adjusting 2 shapes with several common anchor points (not shared, just in the same position), for adjacent shapes.
    2) Is it possible to set the Pen tool to give visual feedback like in Photoshop when moving the mouse to a new position to add a new anchor point? What Photoshop does is show the path segment that would be created if you were to click at the current mouse position, whenever you move the mouse. Illustrator doesn't show this with me right now, so I'm left to guess what the exact path segment will look like when I click (less convenient imo).
    3) Is there a way to always show all paths on the current layer, even if they are not selected? And I do NOT mean Outline mode, I'm aware of that. The problem I'm facing is that - when working with multiple paths - I want to see them all when adding a new path, so I can easily align anchor points and what not with the other paths, but I do NOT want to hide the image I'm tracing (which would happend in Outline mode).
    Thanks in advance.
    Victor

You might get what you re after using Live Paint. Here I have drawn an oval and a wavy line — two paths. After converting to a Live Paint object I can selectively fill and stroke any closed area or and segment.
    No.
Put the object or image you are tracing on a Template layer. Or Command (Mac) or Control (Windows) click on the eye next to a layer name to change only that layer’s view mode.

  • Finder - Snap To Grid Bug

If I select Snap To Grid, then Clean Up, my desktop icons will not line up on the left hand side of my desktop. I have the dock on the left side and a row of folders on that side as well.
When I select Clean Up, the finder relocates these items several inches from the left edge of my screen. I have to deselect Snap To Grid and move them back along the left edge. I cannot get them to stay on the left hand side at all.

  • Manipulating type anchor points?

Is there a way to manipulate the anchor points in type to change the type like you can in Illustrator?

  • Anchor points move and entire shape gets distorted from changing stroke thickness

I have a fairly simple drawing that I drew at a larger size so I could be precise with it, and now I want to reduce it down to the finished size, and thicken the stroke, but when I make the stroke thicker, my anchor points move and the entire drawing gets distorted.
In 24 years of using Adobe Illustrator, I've never seen this happen. When I click on the "up" arrow on the Stroke palette a bunch of times to incrementally increase the stroke thickness, I can watch the anchor points "walk" around as my shape gets distorted.
If I instead enter a numerical value for the stroke thickness, this doesn't happen.
However, if I use the Scale tool to shrink the drawing down to 10% or 20% size or whatever, with Scale Strokes and Effects UNCHECKED, again, the anchor points move and the drawing is distorted.
This is all on a brand new installation of Illustrator CS 6 for Mac (though I've been using CS 6 for about 2 years now, my hardrive crashed this past weekend and I had to reinstall everything).
Did I miss a little checkbox somewhere that I've never seen before that's making this happen?
    Editing this post to add:
Also, some of the objects in my drawing will not allow me to change the stroke to less than 1 point thickness. If I choose .5 or .25 pt from the pop-up menu, or even if I enter the numerical value, it jumps back to 1 point. Other objects in the drawing do not.
These objects in question are "rounded rectangle" shapes that I've used the scissor tool on to cut and then used the "join" command to put them together with parts of other shapes that were "scissored' as well.
All of the "Ellipse" and "Rounded Rectangle" shapes that I left intact do not exhibit this problem with stroke and distortion.

You are being bitten by the Align-to-Pixel-Grid. Select everything and go to the Transform panel and turn off Align-to-Pixel-Grid at the bottom of the panel; then go to the panel flyout (small triangle, upper right) and turn off Align Objects to Pixel Grid.

  • How to Change the Location of the Anchor Point

    Hi
Very new to affter effects.... i was wondering if you guys could please tell me how to move the blue anchor for animation of text please.

If you just want to move the anchor point on your text layer you can do it by hand instead of going in and manually adjusting it from the transform menu as Dave suggested.
However, by what you've written it seems like there may be some confusion about what moving the anchor point actually accomplishes.  So just to clarify, the anchor point, or the small crosshair icon usually in the middle or corner of the layer, is actually a customizable location that essentially dictates the center around which the position, scale and/or rotation values will change when your layer is animated over time with keyframes.
For example, if you would like to move the anchor point so that your text rotates around a point near the corner of the layer, you can press the Y key to activate the Pan Behind Tool and move the anchor point to the corner.  If you have CS6 you can hold down the Command Key to lock the anchor point to the center, corner or edge of your layer.  A little square will appear around the Anchor Point when it's ready to lock.
If you've keyframed some of the properties on a layer and would like to temporarily see how your layer looks without messing up any animation you've done on it, simply duplicate the layer by selecting it in the Comp's layer panel and going to Edit - Copy and Edit - Paste.  That way you can do whatever you'd like on the duplicated layer wihout harming your original  Then do one or more of the following:
A.) You can reset all of the trnsform properties of the layer by clicking Reset.  This will set your layer back to it's default transform settings.
B.) Or, you can delete all of the keyframes on an individual property by clicking the stopwatch again.
C.) Also, clicking the light yellow diamond next to the Source Name will delete a single keyframe and the arrows on either side will move the playhead from keyframe to keyframe.  You can of course always delete keyframes manually by selecting them in the timeline and hitting delete.  Holding Shift will snap the playhead to each keyframe.
I hope this helps and if you're still having trouble I highly reccomend you start here to learn After Effects or go here for additional information.

    Hi all,
I m using interactive ALV grid with 1 column editable with some default values, When i m clicking on SAVE button, only the values which are changed by the user in that column are coming in the internal table, & the default values are automatically deleted by the following code....
But my requirement is to save all the default & changed values of the ALV column....
    <b>Help me out & have ur points.</b>

    Pradeep,
When ur doing the CHECK_CHANGED_DATA, u ll get the edited values inside this callback sub -routine only. so here u trap the values those are changed ( thats after editing).
Once the control goes back to the original program ( calling prog ) , u ll end up with ur old data ( before editing).
you ll have to handle that explictly in your code, or shift to OO alv grid like this -

  • Can you change the anchor point of a swf in CP5.5?

I have created a small swf in Flash and have published it.
I've imported the swf into CP5.5 and applied an effect of anti clockwise rotate and assymetric zoom out in an effort to get it to spiral backwards into oblivion.
However, it seems to rotate the swf from the top left corner.
Is there a way to change this anchor point to the centre of the swf?
    Regards

    Col,
The anchor point of an object in Captivate is always the top left corner of the bounding box. No way to change it (have been pleading for that since long). Only exceptions are Rotate and motion effects, where the center is used.

  • Basic 3d, how do I change rotation axis (anchor) point?

I have a photo in front of me. Now I'd like it to fall toward me, but when I spin the X axis, of course, the focal/center/axis point is the center of the photo. If it was falling toward you as if standing up on a table, the bottom of the photo would be the rotating point. I don't see a way to change this anchor point in the basic 3d filter - can it be done?
    Thanks!

The easiest way I found to do this is the following:
Make the layer you want to rotate in 3D (the photo, in this case) a child/sublayer of a new, empty layer.
Apply the Basic 3D effect to this new, parent layer.
Select the photo sublayer and drag it until it's relative position regarding the axis sytstem/anchor point is the one you want. After that, when you animate the Basic 3D filter in the parent layer, the photo will behave as if the axis system was offset to the location you wanted.

  • Change anchor point on Photoshop Live 3D image?

It is possible to change the anchor point on a Photoshop Live 3D model?
I've imported a (.obj) 3D model into Photoshop (CS5.5) Live 3D layer (in order to be able to export as a PS Live .PSD and import into After Effects) howver I need to change the anchor point to one of the 4 corners, rather than dead centre which is the default. I thought it would easy just to import the .PSD file into After Effects and move the anchor point in there, but this seems impossible. So, can the anchor point be moved inside of Photoshop before I export it?
    Mike.

What do you mean by »Photoshop Live 3D«?
If you need to change the 3D-object’s mesh I’m afraid that will have to be done outside of Photoshop.
But if you could post a mock-up or screenshot with the pertinent Panels visible the issue might get clearer.

  • 3D PSD file import : how to change 3D anchor point in AE ? Challenge..!

    Hello everyone,
I've successfully imported a 3D file from Photoshop Extended CS4 into AE CS4. In AE, I can sucessfully animate rotation of the 3D object.
Here's the problem : I cannot change the 3D object's anchor point. I've tried changing the anchor point's coordinates on the controller layer of the 3D object layer, the numers change, but the anchor point remains at its initial position, as if it was locked.
I also thought changing the anchor point in PS Extended before importing the file into AE, but PS Extended does not seem to have an anchor point changing tool.
So I even reasoned back one step : changing the anchor point in my 3D software since the beginning. Well, not possible because PS Extended seems to create an average position for the anchor point when impoting a 3D file from a third party software. So useless changing the coordinates in the 3D software.
Photoshop Extended 3D is the only possible workflow to import 3D objects into AE that I know of.
So, is is possible to change the 3D anchor point directly in After Effects ? What blocks that point from being changed ?
This is quite a challenging problem, good luck for finding a solution ! I'm very sure that this technique is commonly needed and used when working in 3D, and that it will be of great help for many designers that want 3D in After Effects !
    Thanks again !
Note : please do not confuse simple After Effects standard 3D layer, with the 3D PSD file import layer, these are two totally different types

Any further forward with this anyone?
This is driving me insane as well...
I'm trying to create a simple comp within AE and have my clients logo fly on behind their text while rotating in 3D space.
The idea is for it to rotate on the X axis, but rotate within the logo itself (straight through the axis within the logo itself)
But when I try to rotate it, the AP is about 2.5 "logo depths" away from the logo, so when the rotation of any axis starts it looks ridiculous.
Are Adobe really trying to tell us that moving the AP is not possible within AE for imported Live Photoshop PSD files?
Hopefully a solution comes along soon as I cannot for the life of me figure out a workaround to the problem......
    Cheers,
    Paul.
