Have anyone try 3GB of ram on imac core 2 duo 1.83

well as late 2006 macbook core 2 duo 1.83 specification state that max ram = 2gb but infact it could go for 3 in other website also in wikiedia.org
i would like to know anyone try to install 3GB on imac core 2 duo 1.83 GHZ with GMA 950....
thank you

thank you for that.....this help me decide eother to purchase 2gb stick or not....well i heard from some website said that when apple post the specification at that time 2 gb stick still not b on the market just yet.....
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Macbook
said that late 2006 macbook is able to put 4 GB too but only 3.25 readable.....while the other ram site that selling ram for mac product also state this point i'm not pretty sure about that......
i get pretty clear that for macbook late 2006 able to run with 3 gb even though apple specification said only 2gb.....

Any suggestions, or fixes, as to why I have to rebuild my library after EVERY shutdown? I am running the latest 10.6, 2.92 ghz iMac core 2 duo, with 4gb ram. Install went well, as far as I know. No other problems. I fear, that unless I fix this, when I upgrade to a new computer, I will be taking the same problem with me.

So if you start Aperture do some stuff in it, quit, then open Aperture again it starts up OK but if you then quit Aperture, reboot your machine and start Aperture it stalls?
You're internal drive is getting close to being overfull your at about what 18.5% free space (some we'll say it's already overfull). You might what to think about freeing up space. If you weren't having any troubles I'd say it was fine but as you are experiencing problems it is something to look at.
While its been doing the processing have you been able to open the activity window in Aperture? If you click on the spinnig gear (not the beachball)  when Aperture is busy you can usually get the activity window to open.
Other then that not sure what else to recommend at this point.

I have a MacBook Pro 13inch 2.4GHz (Intel Core 2 Duo, 4Gb RAM, 250Gb HDD, NVIDIA GeForce 320M graphics, SD card slot, up to 10 hour battery life) bought in October 2010. The charger has been playing up for a while now - the light going out but coming back on when I move the cable a bit - faulty connection it seems. It has now stopped working at all.
Apple UK charge a whopping £65 for a replacement - and the reviews are AWFUL for it!
I need to know which one I need - 45w, 60w and 80w are listed - can someone tell me please? If I'm going to pay this price I want to make sure I get the right one!
Also, is a genuine Apple one available on Amazon UK, does anyone know please?
Any help will be much appreciated.
Meanwhile my battery is going down.....

Thanks for that wjosten. Much appreciated.
I've read here on Apple's site that the 85W version will work, as you say, and that it would run cooler with a 13" Macbook - I have a 13" MBP of course but assume this would be the same with mine. I wonder if running cooler is a good thing (it sounds as if it is) and it would be better for me to get the 85W version than the 60W one?
Then I have to decide whether to pay the (extortionate as it seems to me, though I may be wrong) £65 from Apple (bearing in mind the rotten reviews here of the Apple product), or risk a cheaper alternative from Amazon UK, at around £20 (also with various rotten reviews)... Any suggestions? Please? :-)

Based on the information that you have supplied, you have a Early or Late 2008 MBP.  Maximum RAM that it will accept is 6 GB with the following specifications:   200-pin PC2-5300 (667MHz) DDR2 SO-DIMM.
The best sources for Mac compatible RAM are OWC and Crucial.

  • I have a BookPro 15 2.2 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo with 4 GB Ram, that's more slow after updating to X Lion 10.7.5

    Hello
I have a BookPro 15 2.2 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo with 4 GB Ram, that's more slow after updating to X Lion 10.7.5
Is my hardware not good for this new OS ?
Can I upgrade my computer to Mountain Lion OS  and make it faster ?

Mountain Lion won't make it faster. It may not even be compatible.  Speed has a lot to do with what is installed, installation of utilities that actually slow you down, such as MacKeeper, or any cache cleaning softawre.  Installation of utilities that you don't need such as anti-virus or firewall software.  Peer2peer software.  Other devices sharing the same network can slow it down too, make sure your network is secure, and you know what is sharing the network.  Some websites may be slower on Safari, and an alternative browser* is needed.

    Hi there,
Your machine should be supported, the requirements for Mountain Lion are:
    iMac (Mid 2007 or newer)
MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer)
MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer)
    Xserve (Early 2009)
MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer)
Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer)
Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer)
    You must also have:
    OS X v10.6.8 or later
    2GB of memory
    8GB of available space
Some features require an Apple ID; terms apply.
Some features require a compatible Internet service provider; fees may apply.
Also, you might like to try unplugging any external drives, and backup ones, and try again.

  • IMac Core 2 Duo or Core i3?

Looking to buy a used 27-inch iMac, 2009-2011 Unibody model primarily for Web & Email, i.e., not CPU intensive. Have two options at the same price point: one is a 3.06 GHz Core 2 Duo with 12 GB RAM, the other a 3.2 GHz Core i3 with 4 GB RAM. Is the Core i3 much faster? Will the extra RAM on the Core 2 Duo make a noticeable difference? TIA.

steve359: Most Core2Duo are so outdated they cannot run MountainLion
That's not quite right. The crucial CPU requirement for running Lion and Mountain Lion is a 64-bit processor, so any Mac with a Core 2 Duo (or later) processor should be fine. This includes all aluminium iMacs.
However, Core Duo processors are 32-bit and hence will not run Lion, Mountain Lion or any newer version of OS X. (Perhaps it's worth noting that Apple have never sold a Core Duo iMac.)
jayj320, while you've probably already made your decision, I'll offer my opinion on the off-chance that someone else is in a similar predicament.
With a 2009-11 iMac, like the one you've described, the 5% difference in CPU speed is unimportant on its own. However, i3 CPUs use a much faster system bus than Core 2 Duos, and i3 RAM is about a third faster. Finally, in mid 2010 the i3 iMacs got a faster graphics card.
In benchmark terms, the Geekbench2 scores are as follows. (The reason for the third benchmark is in the last paragraph.)
    4178 - for early 2009 iMac with a 3.06 GHz Core 2 Duo
    5837 - for mid 2010 iMac with  3.2 GHz i3 CPU
    [3865 - for early 2008 24"  iMac with 2.8 GHz Core 2 Duo]
What does all this imply? For "web and email" work, either iMac will be more than fast enough and should support future versions of OS X for some time.
In fact, I've written this note on an "early 2008" 24" iMac (the last of the three iMacs listed above) running Mountain Lion, and I cannot say that I've noticed any speed problems with this supposedly antedevulian system since I bought it five years ago; And this system has a benchmark of just 3865!

  • IMac Core 2 Duo unable to read 10.5 install disk

    Hey all,
My father has an iMac Core 2 Duo that shipped with 10.4. Later I installed 10.5 on it, and was running it using an external drive as the Time Machine backup. All was fine, until his HD crashed a few weeks ago.
It was out of warranty, so they brought it to Not-So Best Buy, and them put in a new HD and restore everything. Well, for whatever reason they didn't install 10.5 on it, but the original 10.4. As I don't have my 10.5 install disk, I went out this morning to purchase it for him.
Upon returning home, I inserted the 10.5 retain install disk and the iMac does not recognize the disk. it says it is a blank CD. In inserted it into my MacBook Pro and it recognizes the disk fine.
Is there something on the newer iMacs (newer than my Core Duo MacBook Pro) that I don't know about to try to get this disk to be read by the iMac?
When I put it into boot disk mode (holding the option key during startup) it does not se the install disk either.

It sounds like the iMac may have a bad optical drive.
Use Disk Utility on your MacBook Pro to make a 10GB partition on your external drive. Use Disk Utility's Restore feature to clone the Leopard DVD to the partition. Hook the external drive up to the iMac. See if the iMac will boot from it and allow the install to proceed.

  • IMac G5 or iMac Core 2 Duo

    Hello Apple Community!
I was on the Apple website and saw Mountain Lion would be comming soon. I want a computer that can try to keep up, because Apple isn't slowing down. I currently have an eMac 1.42, and it's time to retire.
But I was wondering if i should get a faster iMac G5, or leave ppc completely and get either an iMac with Intel Core Duo or Core 2 Duo?
    Thanks very much!

Thanks for your comments. I'm selling things for the iMac Core 2 Duo. Want at least $500 for everything I want with it.
I wasin't looking to run Lion or Mountain Lion on my new iMac. I was just giving an example of how much Apple is leaving me and many others behind.
I hope lots of others realize this and try to leave PowerPC. Intel Macs are becoming more affordable every day. There is no reason that all Mac users shouldn't be able to enjoy the the many advancements because of Intel.
I can't wait until I have the funds to buy my iMac. The first thing I will do is get Snow Leopard!

  • Lost Gigabit ethernet link on iMac Core 2 Duo

I have iMac Core 2 Duo and Linksys gigabit switch. I recently lost the ability to link at gigabit speed. I have switched and tested all cables with no problem there. I know the switch is fine because my Mac Mini still gets good gigabit link. When using automatic setting, I can get only 100baseT link. When try to manually configure to gigabit, I lose the link. I am suspecting either a hardware or driver problem has occured. Thanks in advance for any help you can give me.

  • I want a new Imac Core 2 Duo how do I move my files from my PowerPC G3?

I want to get a new Imac Core 2 Duo but I can't figure out how to move my old files from my very old PowerPC G3 to a new Imac when I get it -- which I hope is very soon. The G3 has a CD drive but it is not a CD burner, has a Zip Drive, does not have firewire ports or USB ports -- how on earth can I move my stuff over to the new computer? It does have a 10baseT port [I think that's what it is] -- maybe that's the key? I hope someone can help.
    PowerPC G3 Mac OS 9.1.x

2sockeye, yes, you can use the new mac's Migration Assistant Program to help you move files etc to your new mac via a firewire connection.
Before you do that, search more on "migration" etc on this Discussion; Move only your data files (music, photos) as much as possible but do not move applications and especially system files, preferences that may or will override what's in your new Intel mac, it will cause corruption or an unstable system.
Download and install all the applications from ground up, especially 3rd party utilities etc - look for the Universal versions (either stated, or with a blue "ying yang" logo)
    Cheers
    NEW
No, when you go through the beginning of setting up your new Mac, a page with the Migration Program would appear, and ask you questions on how and what kind of migration you want to perform, it will also ask you (with given instructions) connect the 2 macs up with a firewire cable - this cable goes into your firewire ports
If you don't have a firewire port on your old computer, then search again in this Discussion and under the Support tab, whether on how to transfer data on macs without FW ports

  • Can I buy 1 TB of space for a iMac Core 2 Duo 2.16GHz 2GB 24'' Desktop?

My brother is looking to buy this computer:
    iMac Core 2 Duo 2.16GHz 2GB 24'' Desktop
    Specs are:
    Item specifics - Apple Desktops
    Condition: Used
Processor Type: Intel Core 2 Duo
Product Family: iMac Processor Speed (per Core): 2.16 GHz
    Screen Size: 24 inches Processor
    Configuration: Dual Core
Operating System: Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard
    Memory (RAM): 2 GB
    Primary Drive: Superdrive
    Hard Drive Capacity: 250 GB
My question is, can he add 1 terabyte of space to this computer? The seller says the Hard drive is defective so he would need to replace it, or is the real capacity up to to 250 gigs?
Also, if the drive is defective and he buys an external drive can the defective drive ever affect the external drive and how it functions?
I dont even know why he would need a terabyte of space.... but he is guy what can I say lol

As long as the replacement HD is the same physical size the capacity doesn't matter. Be aware this is an old machine (about 4 years) so I hope he is not investing too much in it. If he's spending over $500 for it I would strongly recommend he buy an Apple Refurbished iMac instead. These machines are covered by Apple's 1 year warranty and are also eligible for AppleCare. Overall a much wiser decision.

    Roger

  • 64 bit support on iMac Core 2 Duo under Tiger 10.4.10 ?

    Hi,
everywhere I read that my iMac Core 2 Duo is supposed to support 64bit applications, or it least is "64bit ready". What does this precisely mean for Tiger? I am running 10.4.10.
The concrete problem I have is that Mathematica 6 is supposedly supporting 64bit on Intel, one just needs to rename the Kernel; a 64 bit Kernel is included. See http://support.wolfram.com/mathematica/systems/macintosh/osx/32bitratherthan64bi t.html
However, it does not even run on the command line, where it gives an error:
    iMac.local:MacOS => MathKernel64
tcsh: MathKernel64: Bad CPU type in executable.
    lipo tells me:
    iMac.local:MacOS => lipo -detailed_info MathKernel64
input file MathKernel64 is not a fat file
    Non-fat file: MathKernel64 is architecture: x86_64
On the other hand, the architecture of the other running apps is i386.
I gather that architecture x86_64 is not supported on my iMac?
The makers of Mathematica, on the other hand, clearly say that it should run on my Core 2 Duo iMac under 10.4.10.
So I am confused; do I have to wait for Leopard?

Yes, this thread is older and newer....
Parts of Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger are 64-bit, and parts are not.
Per published information, a whole lot more of the Mac OS X environment is going to 64-bit; Tiger had 64-bit at the Unix level, while Leopard is expected to bring rather more to the table.
    Published high-level details:
    http://www.apple.com/macosx/leopard/technology/64bit.html
    http://developer.apple.com/leopard/overview/
For low-level details and such related to Leopard, those are under NDA up until they're not under NDA. Mayhap clarification arrives sometime next month?
The x86-64 construct is a name for what Intel once called its EM64T extensions and what it now (in aggregate) refers to as its Intel 64 architecture. Not to be confused with IA-64, which is Itanium, nor with IA-32 which is the 32-bit x86 stuff; x86-32. AMD64 is what AMD has called its extensions, and these are compatible with Intel 64.
Yes, the Intel Core 2 processors and the Intel Xeon 5100 series processors can and do have 64-bit addressing support. But there's a whole lot more to this than the processor itself, as assumptions of the address size tend to permeate an operating system and interfaces and applications; APIs and data structures are notorious for harboring these assumptions. Run-time code can and does tend to make pointer size assumptions here, too.
"64-bit Ready" means that once the software and applications get around to it, the hardware is expected to be ready. It doesn't mean that it'll all work together flawlessly, unfortunately.
Since the makers of Mathematica have provided the bits here and it is the Mathematica bits that are reporting errors, I'd have to assume they're the best ones to look at this. Check with Mathematica.
