Have been reading about Boot Camp. Have old Windows98 programs. Can I still access them on my Mac.
I have been reading about Boot Camp to access Windows based programs on my Mac. I have two programs. One called Infobases by Collecters Library, and another called GospelLink, by Deseret Book Company. They are both copyrighted 1998 and use an old windows operating system. Can I access these old programs using my Mac, or do I need to use Windows98 with a different PC?
that version of Windows is too old to run in Bootcamp. Maybe in a virtual machine such as Parallels or VmWare Fusion.

I was going to rant here about how badly Apple designed their "Apple Id" stuff, how they strongly distinguish between using your Apple Id at the online Apple Store vs. using it at the App Store (which you have to get to via iTunes ... quite ridiculous) ... but I won't. :-)

I have been reading a lot about ios 7 on my ipad 2. It suggests I should wait before updating, is this wise advise?
iOS 7 will be and undoubtedly already has been extensively tested, but there can be errors that are missed during testing. Errors either in iOS itself, or in specific applications you're using.
If one of those errors is key to your environment or to an app that you depend on, then you can be at a standstill until the problem is resolved.
Which leads to the usual recommendations: either have a scratch device and test the update there, or at least wait a week or so — a week or so for a heavily used product such as iOS and for common applications, longer for less-common operating systems and applications — and see what gets reported by others.
Do we know what those errors might or will be, what part of iOS might be effected (if any), or what specific features of applications that you depend on might be perturbed? No.
Some of us will be somewhat slow about updating to newer OS X Server releases — unless we need a specific fix or update — just so that the more common issues can be sorted out by other folks, or where we use and run the updates on test systems where we can afford that; on hardware configurations that we can update and see what (if anything) fails with the update.
In terms of an iOS update, the most you'll probably effect with a failed update is yourself. Worst case, the phone is bricked, and one user (you) is out. With OS X Server, you can adversely effect dozens of folks with a failed OS X Server update or with a bricked server box.
If you still want the New Shiny (and who doesn't?), then definitely have a couple of recent backups of your data. Before you update. -
What is the SAFEST SEQUENCE to convert from a Outlook/iPad/iPhone synced with MobileMe to syncing with iCloud (I have 10 years of calendar diary events and 3000 contacts) - I am worried about the data issues that have been posted about iCloud.
This has worked fine with MobileMe with only a couple of minor glitches in the past.
Any experience doing this the "right" way?The warranty entitles you to complimentary phone support for the first 90 days of ownership.

I have Adobe Reader X loaded on my computer. Adobe sends me automatic updates periodically. I have been told that some hackers have been sending what appears to be an Adobe update and when I select run it will load malicious software or spyware onto my computer. How would I recognize this attempt and how can I prevent it? I also have Norton protection loaded on my computer (via Comcast). I am not sure if Norton can protect me if I select run. Do you have any suggestions?

By default, Reader updates occur automatically via the Reader app itself, and this is the most secure way to receive updates. While you can choose to update manually (by choosing Help > Check for Updates), you may not always get critical updates as they're released. See Automatic updates | Acrobat, Reader. If you receive an email about needing to update Reader, you should ignore it, as that is where the malicious updates can come from. Just make sure you're letting the updates happen from within Reader, either automatically or manually.

I have deleted windows7 in the boot camp but the partition macintosh hd2 is still there...if i try to install windows7 again,it is not showing the boot camp partioned space...
Update: I did an extended hardware test (just in case a hardware issue was causing my problem)--no problems found. I then went through the Aperture troubleshooting steps: I tried repairing permissions first, but I still could not see any of the images that were in the Aperture trash. I then repaired the library. This seems to have fixed things (at least upon initial assessment). Afterward, I was able to see the images that were in the trash. I opened the Activity Window to see what it said when I tried emptying the trash again. This time it said it was deleting exactly the number of images that I expected it to delete (not twice as many this time!), and it emptied lickety split--as I had expected it to do the first time! So, hopefully, all is now well with my system and library. Still wondering why it was telling me it was deleting twice as many images as were in the trash the last time I tried, but overall, much happier today!

I have been hearing about the "heartbleed vulnerability" and told to change all my passwords. Does this apply to Macs? I thought they could not get viruses and this was one of the reasons I got one.

My apps say they are "waiting" and they have been for days updating. They must be stuck. Not all of them but about 10 that ia am waiting on. Does anyone know what do do about this?
Just to add a couple of more things that you can try ... Along with what TMM suggested ....
Make sure that you do not have a stalled download in iTunes - a song or podcast .... if you have a download in there that did not finish, complete that one first. Only one thing can download at a time on the iPad so that could be what is causing the problem.
You can also try updating from the app description page rather than the Updates Tab. Do a search for the apps that needs to be updated - when it appears in the search - tap on the app icon. Then tap on Update or Install - whatever happens to appear next to the app icon - in the description page that pops up.
You can also try deleting the waiting icons - tap and hold down on an icon until it wiggles - the tap the X on the icon to delete it. Then try to download again. -
After I read an e-mail, and after I hit the back space arrow, to look at my list of e-mails, the previously read e-mail still shows up in bold type. Usually when an e-mail is read, and you then look at your list of e-mails, the e-mails that have been read show up in light grey type so you can distinguish these e-mails from the ones that have not been read. Why is this happening? It is very difficult to remember which ones I have read when I am looking at over 100 unread e-mails.

Email messages from my icloud account update on all my devices showing if they have been read and if a reply has been sent. This does not happen with my tinyworld (TalkTalk) email account. Can I (how can I) get this to work with TinyWorld?
You have to look at the email protocol being used. the Apple email system uses IMAP, does Tinyworld use IMAP or POP?
Does the email system permit delivery receipts to be requested?
Just some of the things one needs to determine from the information provided by the email service provider. -
Hi, I am trying to sync my sons ipod so he can upgrade his ipod without losing all his games but for some reason we keep getting the message that my laptop ( windows 7 ) is not authorized. In Itunes, under 'STORE' there is no option or drop down menu with the option to authorise this computer. Just want to get on with up dating his ipod. Anyone any advice ? Have been reading advice for ages nothing worked so far.

Since the update to iOS 7.0.2 I have only access to my email when there is a new massage. As as massages have been read my name turns light gray and I cannot access my email anymore. I have 2 other email addresses and they work properly.

If the device has been used as designed, contacts would be synced to a supported application on the computer or a cloud service and pictures taken with the device would be regularly copied off to a computer.
Failure to use the device as designed is not smart. -
I ran bootcamp and tried to install Windows 7. I end up with a DOS screen and an unresponsive keyboard.
I have been on line with Apple and microsoft and they can't help. I have lated versions of Lion and bootcamp. HELP!

Should I try parallels?Do you have a DOS screen with a command prompt or just a blank screen?
Is your Windows 7 x64 an original MS Full Version Installation DVD?
Did Windows 7 Install Disc start?
If it did you would have had to choose the location of where to install Windows 7.
Did you select the Partition named BOOTCAMP that corresponded to the Partition Size you created in BootCamp?
Were you asked to format the Partition?
Did you format the partition to NTFS and then get an option to click NEXT and actually start the Windows 7 installation?
Do you have a wired USB keyboard and wired USB mouse?
If you actual went through the installation and restarted then here are some things to try:
First try doing a CONTROL-ALT-DELETE and see if a Windows Option Screen appears.
If you get the Screen you will have some options displayed.
You want to highlight and click TASK MANAGER which should be the bottom choice I beleive.
If Task Manager runs you will get a window showing all the processes running.
See if you can find EXPLORER.
If EXPLORER is running highlight it and go to the bottom right and click the END TASK button.
Now go to the Top Left Menu Bar.
Click FILE
In the sub menu that opens select RUN or RUN NEW TASK (Not sure which it is in Windoes 7 as I am running Windows 8)
Once RUN is selected a new window will open to CREATE NEW TASK
Type in EXPLORER and then the OK button.
If Windows 7 installed properly the Desktop should appear after a bit of time.
Your first concern is to get your keyboard running so you may have to remove and reinstall Windows using Boot Camp on the Mac Side.
