Have connection to base station, solid green light but no internet ??

Hello,
At my wits end. I have a a brand new Airport Express, a brand new Dell laptop running Vista Home Premium and an older model Westell Wirespeed DSL modem. Although I have a solid green light on the Airport base station, and have no problem communicating and printing wirelessly, I cannot connect to the internet. All indications from the Airport Utility show a normal connection with a signal strength of 'very good' to 'excellent'. I configured Airport to DHCP, which is what my ISP (Verizon) provides. Sometimes upon startup, my computer first tries to connect to an 'unknown network' and I have to manually switch to the Airport network I created. I've been through this at least half a dozen times, resetting the modem, the base station and re-setting up the network but no luck getting on the internet so far. What am I missing here? Thank you!

If anyone happens to stumble on this, I solved the issue on my own. The TC/IPv4 protocol on the PC's wireless network properties was set to a static IP address. Once I reset it to dynamic, it worked fine.

  • Airport Express shows green light but NO Internet

I am using a Macbook Pro and an Airport Express for my Wi-Fi.
I have recently changed my Internet Service Provider. The new ISP provided me with the following information:
    1.IP address: 172.100.11.17
    2. Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0
    3. Default Gateway:172.100.11.1
    4. Preferred DNS: 172.16.0.1
    5. Alternate DNS: 8.8.8.8
My ISP told me to enter this information manually unlike my previous ISP who used DHCP.
I entered this information by going to system preferences >> Network >> Advanced  >> TCP/IP >> Configure IPv4: Using Manually. I also entered the preferred and alternate DNS information under DNS servers in DNS tab.
I applied these settings and the airport express shows solid green light but gives NO access to internet.
I have also tried connecting the Ethernet cable directly to the computer, which also shows connected but gives NO access to Internet.
I borrowed another router from my friend (not apple) and entered the same settings given by my new ISP and boom !!! I got connected to the internet  only through wirelessly BUT no connection again using the ethernet.
So I am facing the following problem in Mac OS X (10.7.5)
    using
    Airport Express: NO internet
    Ethernet: NO internet
Other Router(non-apple): Internet works using Wi-fi
    Ethernet: NO internet
I do not know if something is blocking the connection or what is happening. I have created new locations (under network) and deleted the old existing one's but nothing seems to help. I also did a hard reset of my Airport Express but nothing seems to help.
    Please help me !!!

I must be doing something wrong with entering settings in Airport Express. The ISP technician is as clueless as me and had even did some changes under Wi-Fi in the network section on my macbook pro. I dont know if it is causing these problems. I have a few questions, please help.
Q1. While entering the ISP provided details using Airport Utility, which of these should I choose: A. Static B. DHCP C. PPPoE ?
Q2. Should my MAC address in the Airport Utility be set to configure manually or automatically ?
Q3. What should be my Wi-Fi settings in my computer ?. I mean in system preferences under network, should my TCP/IP set as DHCP or manually ? Under hardware tab, there is an option to select MAC address as either Automatically or Manually. What should it be ?

  • Airport Extreme - green light, but no internet

I've been using my airport extreme for 2 years, connected to an Alcatel-Lucent modem.
A couple of months ago I bought 2 airport express devices and cabled them to the extreme in bridge mode, working just fine.
After a 2-week trip I returned home and I found that all the devices showed a green light in the Airport Utility, but the internet was orange.
I could connect myself to the network, play music in my airplay sound system, but couldn't surf the web or use my apple tv.
Now internet is changing from green to orange every 5 minutes.
I tried everything that I have read in different forums, but with bad results.
    Any other suggestion?
    Thank you very much.

I tried working on my computer with a wired connection from the modem itself and it works perfectly.
If you mean that you have the computer connected directly to the modem and things work OK, then leave things "as is" for at least a few hours.....longer would be better....and report on your results at that time.
Then, we will do the next check.

  • Base Station appears to work but no internet? Please HELP!

Last night my internet and email was working fine. This morning I got no signal. I called the cable company and went through their diagnostics and determined that it is the Base Station I'm having problems with. When the modem is connected directly to my computer everything works fine, when I use the wireless I can't get on the internet or get email. The strange thing is that it says my airport is working and connected to the network. It also says that the basestation is connected to the internet but when I try to open a page I get nothing. Any suggestions?

I tried to setup my mother in laws brand new iBook, airport express and modem yesterday. I got it working when connected to the modem over ethernet and then set about adding the airport express. The first thing it did was upload verion 5.6 of the firmware and I then spend a number of hourse trying to get the thing working but it completely refused. The diagnostiocs said I was connected to the internet, but I could not connect to any servers. I called it a day and went back home.
Later last night I thought I would double check my own airport extreme settings to see if I could work out what I had done wrong. When I connected it asked if I wanted to upload the latest firmware so I said ok. I ended up with my setup in exactly the same situation. I then realised that it must be the 5.6 firmware that is causing the problem - but I couldn't even get on the apple website to find out what they were saying about it.
Anyway just got on now over dialup and there doesn't seem to be any mention of this problem other than this thread.
Has anyone else successfully uploaded 5.6 without getting this issue?
I'm currently downloaded 5.5.1 so I'll see if that fixes things.
I also noticed that I can't find a screen that lets you download 5.6 anywhere. Does anyone know if apple have withdrawn it?

  • Solid Green light at start up. Airport utility can't find base station.

    Help!
I've got a problem with my Airport Extreme base station. It's not so extreme. When I hook it up, I get a solid green light and it can not be found by the airport utility in order to set up. I've tried resetting it, power on and off. Nothing. Any suggestions on how to start over or get this thing working?
    Thanks,

Try temporarily connecting your Mac to the AirPort Extreme base station (AEBS) via Ethernet. After you get it configured you can disconnect the Mac's Ethernet connection to the AEBS.

  • I've got a green light but express not connecting to speakers

I've configured my express to my home's wireless network and its attached to my stereo and speaker inputs via rca cables, but when I try connecting to them via iTunes Airplay drop down menu, i can't get no satisfaction, or connection. There is a solid green light on my base station. Am I being stupid and missed the obvious? I have tried setting the base station up as a wireless network itself and connecting that way, this didn't work either. I created the network but got no connection, all I got was intermittment amber flasing lights on the base station. Anyone have a clue? The basestation is plugged a metre away from the the amp and speakers on the floor, will this have anything to do with issue?

    Hi markwmsn,
Thanks alot for your comments! I've responded below IN CAPS. Short but by no means sweet, as I think I might have to buy some AirTunes enable speakers, and maybe a new express?
I don't think the distance between the express and the amp or the fact that some of the equipment is on the floor is relevant so long as they are wired together correctly (usually express output -> amp input & amp output -> speakers) and the correct amp input and output are selected. I'M COMING OUT OF THE EXPRESS VIA A MINI STEREO TO DUAL RCA CABLE INPUT
The flashing amber light when you put the Express in "Create a network" mode just means it couldn't find the internet any more. Rejoin it to your home's wireless network or connect it by ethernet. YEAH I REALISED STRAIGHTAWAY AND CHANGED BACK, WAS TRYING ANYTHING
When you try connecting via iTunes AirPlay, does the express not show up in the list of speakers, IT SHOWS UP BUT DOESN”T CONNECT does it show up but not connect, or does it connect but not play?
Have you enabled AirPlay on the express? YES
Have you selected on the amp the input to which the express audio output is connected? I CAN’T DO THAT ON THIS AMP, I PLUGGED RCA’S INTO THE EXTERNAL INPUTS
Thanks again, if you have anymore thoughts, they'd be much appreciated!

  • Airport Express loses connection to base station

Airport Express second gen loses connection to base station, has to be reset.

Roger that.  Late 2013 MBP 2.5 i5 4mb ram, 10.9.1 Mavericks, formatted and hand loaded after questionable upgrade load.  Fast, flawless, no issues.
Airport Express configured to wirelessly extend existing network for the express purpose of supplying an analog
input to a stereo amplifier via airplay.  No other devices are connected to the AE.
The WAP is a Century Link Actiontec C1000A VDSL2 physically located 6 feet from the AE with no obstructions.
There are no existing proximal fortuitous distortion or RF interference sources.  Other 802.X networks near are
on non-conflicting channels.  The WAP is less than six months old and has no issues.
The WAP is configured  for MAC filtering with the SSID turned off.  In the allow list are two iphones, a printer, two more MBPs and the Airport Express.  One of the iphones is loaded with the Remote Ap which functions
flawlessly when the AE is connected.
The AE connects properly in the Extend Existing Network mode and performs as advertised as long as Air Play
    and/or itunes is active.
Some time after music has ended, the MBP has gone to sleep, or been shut down ... the Airport  Express loses its connection to the wireless network, with its amber light flashing.
Performing a reset and reconnecting is necesssary, and all works as advertised after.  Subsequently,
sleep, inactivity, or shutdown will cause loss of connection again.
I am aware the AE can be connected with CAT6, but that is unnaceptable.  If I had wanted to use wire I
would have plugged the MBP into the amplifier and saved $100.
My speculation is some sort of TCPIP flub in the design ... as in the AE does not natively transmit keep-alive
packets when it stops getting data from the Air Play computer.  It would be easy to decide whether to fix
the problem or return an inadequately designed product ... if there were any information about it.  No schematics, no operation description however leaves me only to say thank you for your time and hope
    you have the solution.

  • Solid green light with blink every 5 seconds

I use this shuffle on my windows xp pc. When it was time to charge the (first gen) shuffle, I connected it to powered USB, as usual. After plugging it in I got a solid green light with a blink every 5 seconds. I then tried plugging it into the wall adapter charger with the same outcome. I left it overnight to charge and upon checking the battery, it's still red/orange.
Does anyone have an idea what could be the problem?
    Thanks

Does this mean I have to buy a new one, or is the
battery replacable? I haven't even owned it for a
    full year.
Take it to an Apple Store... they'll replace it.

  • My base station blink amber, but MBP says connected, My base station blink amber, but MBP says connected

I'm trying to install airport extreme, the base station blink orange, but my MBP says it's connected.  Shouldn't the light on the base station be green also?

Open AirPort Utility and click Manual Setup
Click directly on the word "Status" (2nd line) and a window will open to explain why the AirPort Extreme is complaining
What does the message say?  It might be something as simple as a notice that an update is available for  your device.

  • Green light, but will not connect to Internet

Set up the router easily, solid green light. Airport Utility says Airport is green, but Internet connection is "disconnected"

Hmmm. I'm not familiar with Arris, but the power down / power up sequence works with any cable modem that I've ever used.
    If you are:
Connecting to the WAN "O" port on the AirPort Extreme
Verified that the Ethernet cable is working correctly
I am running out of ideas
I assume that the Airport Extreme is functioning correctly, but there is no way to verify that. Suggest you give it one last shot before you haul the Extreme in to the Apple Store.
This time, perform a Factory Default Reset on the AirPort Extreme as follows:
Pull the power cable from the back of the AirPort Extreme
    Wait a minute
Hold in the reset button and keep holding it in for an additional 8-10 seconds while you simultaneously plug the power back in to the AirPort Extreme
Release the reset button after the hold period and allow 25-30 seconds for the AirPort to display a slow blinking amber light.
Then do the complete power down and power up in sequence again to see if the modem and AirPort will associate with each other.
If that does not do it, I am stumped.  If you find a solution, please let us know.

  • My IMac has stopped seeing the keyboard. I have changed the batteries and the green light comes on saying it is looking to pair with the IMac but without success. I am left with the IMac switched on and I am unable to enter a password.

I have been using my IMac without a problem when I left it and went back to enter the password the IMac did not see the keyboard. I have changed the batteries and the green light comes up on the keyboard and then starts to flash indicating it is looking for the IMac but nothing happens. I have tried another set of new batteries with the same result. Is there any known problems in this area. The IMac is 5 months old.
    Thank you for any help

What operating system does your iMac have? (please always post your operating system to prevent confustion).
If it's pre-Lion you will have to set Mail up manually:

  • AirPort Base Station Agent active but I don't have an AirPort Base Station

    hello.
Activity Monitor shows AirPort Base Station Agent active although I don't have an AirPort Base Station. I have a router named Speedport. Does my mac consider that an AirPort Base station, or is the Agent running idle (consuming 779,60MB Diks Space VM in vain) ?
    thanks

It is my understanding that the AirPort Base Station Agent performs the function of checking for updates to the AirPort base stations by contacting the Apple distribution (akamai?) servers. There is a configuration setting in the AirPort Utility to enable/disable this feature. It is installed either by the CD provided with the base stations, or (I believe) it comes with the Leopard OS.

  • Green light but won't discover

I am having issues connecting my airport extreme. My AE has been working fine. I disconnected and brought it to Alaska. Hooked it up and got green lights, but was unable to connect to the internet. I reset modem and AE no success. Tried using ethernet thru the AE but that didn't work either. Deleted relative passwords in Keychain thinking it may be causing a problem, but that didn't work either. the last time I was here I used an older model airport and didn't have any problems. I am trying to connect via a GCI modem. Box shows IP 169.254.47.96. I am wondering if I should manually put in a 255 address? Any suggestions? I can hook up via ethernet from modem directly to the computer.
    Kenny

It sounds like the modem still "remembers" the previous device connected to it and is not recognizing the AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBS).
Please try the following, in order, checking for Internet access after each step, until resolved:
    1. If the modem has a reset switch, use it to reset the modem. Wait at least 5-10 minutes for the modem to initialize.
    2. Remove power from the modem. If it has a backup battery, remove this as well. Wait 5-10 minutes. Replace the battery, and add power back to the modem.
    3. Perform a complete power recycle of your network components as follows:
o Power-off the modem, AEBS, & computer(s); Wait at least 10-15 minutes. Note: Order is not critical.
o Power-on the modem; Wait at least 10-15 minutes.
o Power-on the AEBS; Wait at least 5-10 minutes.
    o Power-on the computer(s)
    4. Contact your ISP to have them perform a "modem reset."
