Have downloaded Yosemite but can't update ...

I have downloaded Yosemite and am running the installer but it won't let me install onto the hard drive of my iMac, saying that the hard drive is used for Time Machine backups.
The internal hard drive is not connected to Time Machine (I do use time machine but this is backed up to an external hard drive).
Can anybody help?

Please go into your "Macintosh HD" and see if you have a file named "Backups.backupdb". If yes > delete it from the location and try to install OS X again.

It depends on if the content you are watching as any. If you select and hold down the select button while playing the content it will bring up the content menu. The subtitles tab will let you select what ever content is encoded for the show you are watching.

You might need to connect a wired keyboard and then go to your bluetooth pane and reconnect your wireless keyboard. You should always have a cheap wired keyboard as backup hardware.

As both the Creative Suite versions are quite outdated ,and Adobe does not provide any support for any of the Creative Suite versions.
I would recommend you to subscribe for Creative Cloud. An yearly commitment will charge you very nominal.

With your machine you should have received a couple of disks, one of which has application software or even a separate iLife disk...use that to reinstall the iLife software and update from there.

Your iOS version is probably too old to support software update. You must update using iTunes on your computer.
Make sure your iTunes on the computer is current. Plug your iPhone into iTunes. Let it sync. Then choose "Check for Updates..." from the iPhone's summary tab in iTunes. That should od it for you.

Have uninstalled it several times, and reinstalled to no avail.
Have checked log files and changed permissions to read-write on all folders/files that the log files suggest.
I still can't apply the update and Illustrator won't eve launch with it.

Download the iBooks app and go to the Store after lauching that. Come back and ask again if you are having problems.
You can worry about Kobo at some later point, it has nothing to do with Apple and you should seek help at the site of the people who make it.
