Have Enough RAM, Still Have to Use Software Rendering

I recently added an nVidia geForce 8600GT video card to my system with 1 GB of RAM on board. All together I have 2303MB of RAM, but I still have to use software rendering in Bridge or my images are scrambled. Since I have much more than the required 128MB+ of RAM to use hardware rendering, why am I still not able to use it ???

Hi Brian.
The problem may be with the driver. For some reason card manufacturers sometimes remove support for some features in their updated drivers. Alternatively, if the card is new-ish then the driver writers may not have gotten round to implementing the features yet.
If possible try experimenting with earlier drivers - you can find earlier ones for your card here: http://www.nvidia.com/Download/Find.aspx?lang=en-us
If this still doesn't work then you can try Omega's 'modded' drivers from here: http://www.omegadrivers.net/ - I had to use an Omega one to get hardware rendering to work in Bridge CS3 on my laptop.

I seem to have enough RAM, but the 3d option is my all my adobe programs is still greyed out. It is possible I am reading the requirements wrong, please advise. I have listed my computer information below.
    Toshiba
    running windows 8
    RAM 4GB (3.80GB usable)
64bit operating system, x64 based processor
    Intel Pentium processor
    Please advise.
    Thank you

I figured it out for illustrator,
I was selecting the words I wanted to make 3D by highlighting them rather then just using my select tool and selecting the words
however it is still not working in Photoshop.

  • Want to upgrade to OS X 10.3.9, do I have enough RAM?

Hello ~ I plan to purchase software to upgrade my OS X from 10.2 to 10.3 (and then update to 10.3.9). Do I have enough RAM with 128 mb to run this effectively? This is an iBook that I bought used, to get by temporarily. Is it worth it to add the extra RAM? If so, would it be an easy do it yourself install?
    Thanks!!

  • Are there suggestions for managing Multiple VMWare Fusion systems sharing files with a MacBook?  Suppose I have enough ram for 3 servers to share files.

Suppose I have enough ram for 2 or three VMWare fusion systems to that could benefit from file sharing.  Is it possible to configiure each VMWare funsion instance to have a common read only file share on my desktop and a common read/write area on on my desktop?
This would allow me to extend the power and mustle of my Mac Book Air, Retina Display system to its best advantage.  Whether native Mac processing or speciality linux or Windows systems as needed.
I am having trouble allowing more than one system to share the same read only and the same read/write areas so that software does the file locking and merge controls.  Even if these do not share a common read/write area, it would be truly handy for drive space management for them to share a common read only area.
    Thanks for your thoughtful input.

It really denpends on the os running in the vm and what the permissions are set to on those shares.
I run a few vms on both a mac at home and windows at work and all other computers in my home or at work can connect to the vms without any problems. Even multiple computer at the same time.
It also depends on how you have set the vm up for networking. If you are setting it up as nat, instead of bridged, that can also cause problems access it from multiple system. With nat the vm is on its own network branch.

    Hi there,
Wondering if you might know?  I don't have enough space to update the new software on iPad.  So my facetime isn't working anymore, this is prob why. Seems I have to delete like all the games/apps we have to do so.  Will I lose the progress data/levels in the games? But how do I back up the games data?
Please help.  Scared to delete them to update and then not have the space to restore them and if I get them again will the levels/progress be gone?
    Thanks Rachel

Connect your device to iTunes and do the update through iTunes. Using a computer takes much less space on your device than doing the update on your device.

  • I need help i have just bought snow leopard for my mac reading that it can be downloaded onto a 10.4.11 1.86GHz Intel Core 2 Duo but it says i dont have enough ram space how can i solve this?

i need some help i have just got the Mac OS X as i have recently been given a mac with 1.83 GHz Intel core 2 duo and on 10.4.11. However it says i dont have enough ram how can i solve this?

    http://store.apple.com/us/mac/mac-accessories/memory
Other than Apple there are only two vendors with which I have personal experience and can recommend: Crucial and OWC. People have reported problems with many other brands, yet Crucial and OWC's prices are as good as any you are likely to find. Patriot is another brand recommended by ASC contributors but I have no experience with them.
Go to Crucial and download the little app that examines your system and recommends RAM upgrade options.
Their prices are good but don't have to buy memory from them - determine what you need and buy it from Crucial or OWC / MacSales.

I have a Mac OS X v 10.4.11 and trying to upgrade to snow leopard but it says I don't have enough RAM, what do I do?

What machine are you running on?
As far as I recall, Snow Leopard's memory requirements were 1GB of RAM. All Intel-based Macs have shipped with at least that much, so I don't understand how you have a machine that doesn't have enough memory.

    Is the message saying:
    Not enough storage
    Not enough/low memory?
For the former delete some items from the iPod.
For the latter.double click the home button and close all the apps in the recently used dock. Then power off and then back on the iPod. This frees up memory.

  • How do I know if I have enough RAM?

With the Activity monitor open and the memory pie chart showing I have half yellow 40% blue and the rest red with a non-existant sliver of green.
How much of each is normal?

You can never have enough RAM.
Seriously, you can either check your PageIn/PageOut stats, or just watch your Disk Activity when switching applications or performing memory-intensive operations. If the disk traffic spikes, the system feels unacceptably slow to you and you don't mind the added power consumption, install more memory.

  • How can I possibly not have enough RAM?

I've just bought a brand-new Mac Pro, with 2 x 2.4 GHz Quad-core Xeon processors, and upgraded the RAM to 12GB. My video-card is a Radeon HD 5770. I opened a panorama in Photoshop CS5, and wanted to fill the missing areas with a 'content-aware' fill to avoid the inevitable heavy cropping. After selecting the area with a magic-wand, then going to edit>fill (content aware checked) it says there's not enough RAM to complete the process. WHAT??
    Any thoughts?
    Thanks!

There may be something more helpful in search results I saw:

If (lack) of memory, or you want to get the most out of CS5 (and some users do find they need 24-32-48GB), maybe 6 x 4GB the next time? I'd say 12GB for 8-core w/ CS5 is a base config. Assuming you have 6 x 2GB, I'd look into maybe adding 2 x 4GB (you can't use 8GB DIMMs with any other density RAM).

    When More is Less
... the internal CS5 code architecture was designed for 2-4 cores some years ago, and is algorithmically inappropriate for systems with more than 4 cores—hence minimal improvement when going from 4 to 6 cores, and a sharp degradation beyond that. Will Adobe fix this? We can hope, but past actions are a strong predictor of the future.

For CS5 I would have gone with 6-core 3.33GHz ($3600) and 3 x 8GB RAM. Dual processor or 8-core sytems are not your best configuration - GHz matter and 'sharing' data across dual processor still has to go over a link, fast, but not ideal, plus Westmere chips have 12MB L3 Cache.

  • Will the new generation 16GB iPad have enough RAM for digital drawing apps?

I am shopping for iPad.  Will the new generation iPad Air or iPad Mini with retina display 16GB have enough memory to run digital drawing apps with stylus?

    As to the how:
    Use one of these:
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/MD821ZM/A/lightning-to-usb-camera-adapter
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/MD822ZM/A/lightning-to-sd-card-camera-reader?f node=3a
    To do this:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4101
Now for the storage and why getting the "largest" iPad you can afford. 16GB is not much, especially when it comes to photos and video. Assuming you have a relatively modern camera, each photo will likely be a minimum of 5 MB. Extrapolate that and 5,000 Photos is already significantly more storage than 16GB, not counting iOS, any apps and other data.

  • I have searched but still have unanswered questions?

First, I would like to comment on what a great resource this forum is.  Over the past several weeks, I have learned how to import 8mm tape (using an old Sony Handycam) into Imovie 11, edit, show the full frame, etc.  I purchased Idvd on the internet, shared the Imovie project to Idvd and burned dvd's.  I have done much reading of old threads but still have a few questions.
There were threads discussing the quality of 8mm vids regarding the interlacing of the lines.  Apparently, Imovie dropped every other line.   Is this still a concern with Imovie 11?
If dropping of every other line is still an issue, is there a way to prevent or work around?
Now that I have shared the project to Idvd, can I delete the project from Imovie and then save it out of Idvd?  My intent would be to save to a separate drive.
Is there a specific method for saving out of Idvd?

After restoring the iPod to factory settings did you restore your data/content from a backup or did you set the iPod up as new?
If you set the iPod up as a new iPod then your issue is most likely hardware related. If you are under warranty you can contact AppleCare or make a Genius Bar appointment to have the iPod replaced or repaired.
If you restored your data/content from a backup then there is still a chance that your issue could be software related because the backup contains bits and pieces of the old software. Try restoring the iPod and setting it up as new.
    I hope this helps!

  • RI bought CS 6 in May 2014. I have an HP computer that was purchased in May 2013, but it is a 32 bit computer.I cannot currently use PS as it says I do not have enough RAM.

chased 8 GB of Ram and the computer only sees 4 GB. Is this enough to run PS? I was sent a disk to upgrade the computer to 64 bits, but I will have to re-install everything I guess including PS. Is there any other way around this?

On a 32 bit system, no app can use more than 2-3 GB of RAM. That's why 64 bit was invented, to get over this.
Still, the message is weird because Photoshop should run. There's probably something else wrong.

  • Hi , I have just started using adobe illustrator cs5 and I get a warning that I do not have enough ram to complete the task. How do i solve this?

The System overview shows I have 4gb of ram but in the L2 cache 3mb are used. ??
    any ideas

    Hello,
I find 4GB barely enough for the OS itself, you can upgrade to as much as 16 GB of RAM...

  • I have to use an application for work that isn't supported in Mt. Lion and my 2008 Macbook doesn't have enough ram for Lion. Should I update ram or get a new computer?

So, it would be a stretch to buy a new computer, but I could if I needed to. The fan on this computer gets a little loud and the computer will sometimes get hot, but it works fine. I don't want to invest in a computer that doesn't have long to live, but I also don't want to buy a new computer when I have a perfectly good one... Suggestions?
    The application is Sookasa.

A loud fan could indicate a hardware issue which could only get worse when tampering with the RAM.
    Backup your data.
What is the application, and version of application?  Perhaps we can find something that works with your operating system?   Go to Apple menu -> About This Mac to tell us your existing operating system.
