Have found multiple iTunes Library.xml files. Moved Library to new Hard Drive and it needs to be completely rebuilt?
Hello. I have a Mac Mini operating Mac OS X 10.7.2. I recently had to move my iTunes Library to a new hard drive. I followed the directions on how to move the library and refind everything yet when I do so what comes up is a mere skeleton of what I had. I have had to hunt down my purchased Apps, Music and Movies and re-add them to the library. I also noticed in doing this I have multiple iTunes Library.xml files ... shouldn't there only be one? If so how do I clean this up without doing any accidental damage (i.e. how do I find the one that is being used and delete the rest?)? If I delete the others is there any risk of losing purchased content? Lastly syncing my iPads has become a nightmare as I get the "This iPad is currently synced to another iTunes library" message. It's hard for me to picture the exact situation. It sounds like you still have your library file on the internal but some files on the external, and maybe some on the internal, some of which are in the library and others not... By re-adding things after consolidating it may have made things into a hodge-podge. Yes, that article you referenced says: "iTunes for Mac: Moving your iTunes Media folder"with Media Folder being the emphasis. You probably should have just moved your whole iTunes folder. Still, moving the media folder as instructed should not have messed up the library. Did you make the mistake of starting up iTunes before the external drive had mounted fully and it then told you it couldn't find many files? How you proceed to sort it out will depend upon how much time you want to spend and how important things such as ratings and playcount are to you. I have not actually used the consolidate feature across different drives myself (and don't feel inclined to do so here to test ).
If you are in the USA you can download some previous purhcases with iCloud, but not all.

Once you get iTunes working off the external drive it should just put new media to the external when you add it.
I have almost no experience with synching (I synched my neice's iPod, once, about 4 years ago).

michel p.I usually err on the sideof caution when someone says "downloaded" and take it to mean anything fro actually downloaded, to copies, to imported, to moved (frolder to folder), but even if they were "downloaded"... if the old email was hacked, and subseuqently closed out, that leaves the downloaded files "orphaned" if you will, belonging to the old ID. So, while they may be on the HD, they're inaccessible now.
One of the biggest reasons I NEVER keep anything in my library with DRM employed in it. I bought it. I own it. I'm not going to get locked out of it. -
I have a ipod classic 160GB and it's not showing any music anymore, but there is still showing 7GB of memory being used, and I don't have it backed up on my itunes, since I had to put a new hard drive on my computer. Any suggestion to find out whats on that memory or to get it the music back, there is approximately over 1400 songs on it?
What is the memory being used by, is it Other? If it is, that means the iPod can no longer read the music, so it has put it all in "Other".
The usual fix for this is to allow the iPod to Sync with its iTunes Library. If that doesn't work, the next option is to Restore the iPod using the Restore command in iTunes, on the Device/Summary pane.
Unless you are very (very) lucky, I suspect that you are going to have to Restore your iPod. Restoring will remove everything form the iPod and put back onto it only what it finds in your iTunes Library, which you say is currently empty.
If you have to rebuild your Library after this issue, by adding all the music back again, this is going to be hard to hear, but for the future, you may want to consider always having a backup of your library. The easiset way to back the Library up is;
if the Library is small enough, burn it to a DVD, as digital files, not a "music CD".
If your Library is too large for a DVD, buy yourself an external hard drive and copy the Library onto the drive. Remember to update the backup every so often. -

You need to ask the printing service provider. Dealing with color totally depends on the printing process involved and of course the machines used. -

Right click on your device in the device list and choose "transfer purchses" to copy all music bought in iTunes to your new iTunes library.

Download the Windows Installer CleanUp utility from the following page (use one of the links under the "DOWNLOAD LOCATIONS" thingy on the Major Geeks page)...

To install the utility, doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file you just downloaded and ran.
Now run the utility ("Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up"). In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any iTunes entries and click "Remove", as per the following screenshot:
Restart your computer.
Re-download Itunes (latest version form Itunes website) and install. It worked! -

Moving Content to External Hard Drive and Using New Computers
Before doing this, I want to make sure I know how to do all of it:
We are going to buy two new laptops, and retire the old one. I want to move all of my iTunes content from the old laptop to an external hard drive attached to an Airport Extreme. I then want to be able to share the content between the two computers. I know how to do this, and plan to move the library data base files to the external hard drive, as well.
However, I also want to be able to continue synching all of the content to the Apple TV. To what should the Apple TV be synched after the content is moved to the external hard-drive and the old computer is replaced by two new computers? How is that done under the circumstances? And, in the meantime, will the Apple TV lose all of its content and need to be re-synched entirely from scratch, or will it continue recognizing the current iTunes library as moved to the external hard drive?
Thanks!This is an option, although as a note of caution; depending on how regularly you modify your library this could become a little bit of a chore. The option is likely a good one in many cases but not all.
In my own case I considered using an old mac as my media server in the sense mentioned by tmartine. (I do a bit of experimental stuff and need to restart my mac quite often, I also have 5 Apple tv's and a library which is too large to do anything but stream, my family don't take too kindly to my frequent restarts and I find myself waiting until the early hours).
However I also modify my itunes library on a daily basis, I buy quite a bit of stuff and also add my own movies regularly, as well as make several recordings a day through my eyetv, all this new content would need to be manually added to my (server) library (and deleted manually), I felt this would be too many extra things for me to do and so my personal preference is to have my itunes library on my main computer as the primary library. -

To clarify....I moved LIGHTROOM to a new hard drive....including 1) Working catalogs, 2) Working exports, and 3) Working Originals. I now know i did not follow correct procedure for "moving a catalog". I dragged it to the new hard drive. Yikes!!
(I was at Imaging last week and spoke to Julianne Kost, she recommended that i use the FIND link....but this gave me the same result as i am speaking about above.)
To Clarify......The Collections are listed. The target path to the images did not change when i moved to the new hard drive.
There is an exclamation point in the right hand corner of the images in each collection. When i click on the exclamation mark i get the message....."“JK_120214_7782.NEF” could not be used because the original file could not be found. Would you like to locate it?" I then locate the file IN THE NEW current DRIVE...at which time i click on it and i receive the message.....
this file is associated with another photo in the catalog.... each file can only be associated with one photo. Then if i choose to show in library....it points to the image in the FOLDER tab...which is in fact where the image is located.
Up to this point, when i need one of these older collections i have had to recreate. i have manually gone to the original.....in the FOLDER tab, found the image and added to the Collections again. Then i go back and delete all the files with the ! ......a long and tedious task. I was hoping there was an easier way to recreate my "collections".
Initially i was going to just MOVE the entire library again ( the correct way) ....which i should've done i believe. Now i have imported more jobs and have created additional collections , so i'd love to find a short cut!

Is there some way to move everything?No, do not re-import your images. I assume you can see the thumbnails in the library module, just cannot access the full images, right? If this is the case there should be an exclamation mark in the top right corner of every one of your pictures and you only have to tell LR where the images are now.
Click the exclamation mark of one of the images and a dialog window should pop-up, telling you that LR cannot find the file, but with an option to locate it. Press "Locate" and navigate to the folder on your new HD where the file is. If in the new external HD you kept the same folder structure that you had on the internal disk, LR will be able to find all your images and re-link them to the database without further intervention. -
New hard drive and now can't get library back!

My hard drive recently crashed and I did not have a backup (I know, I know!). Anyway, new hard drive installed and some of my files were saved including some music files. However, when I try to add them to iTunes, they do not add. I have everything on my ipod but when I connect it, it says that I have already synched it with another computer. How can I get my music back in the library as it was before? Connect your iPod to your computer. when you get the message that it is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press "Cancel". Pressing "Erase and Sync" will irretrievably remove all the songs from your iPod. When your iPod appears in the iTunes source list change the update setting to manual, that will let you use our iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it. Check the "manually manage music and videos" box in Summary then press the Apply button. Also when using most of the utilities listed below your iPod needs to be enabled for disc use, changing to manual update will do this by default: Managing content manually on iPod and iPhone
Once you are safely connected there are a few things you can do to restore your iTunes from the iPod. If you have any iTunes Music Store purchases the transfer of purchased content from the iPod to authorised computers was introduced with iTunes 7. Whichever of these retrieval methods you choose, keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync. -
New Hard Drive and iTunes and iPhone 3Gs
My hard drive crash and I just replaced it. I installed a new hard drive and have just installed iTunes. Okay, I will admit it - I did not back up the iTunes (actually I tried, but it didn't work). Okay, so I have restored the Windows Vista software. I installed iTunes and am now trying to sync. iTunes is "saying" that my iPhone is sync to a different library and that everything on my iPhone will be replaced by what is on my laptop, including my pictures.
Am I out of luck? Can anyone provide advice for all these pictures and apps and music I have purchased?Yes, It will erase the content and replace with content from the new hard drive. This is one of many reasons to always maintain a backup (not just try to backup once failure is certain).

You can e-mail your pics to yourself - they will not be of the original quality as the are re-sized for viewing on iphone. Another reason to always maintain a backup.

How to add files from iPod to new hard drive after krasch?
My hard drive recently crasched. I use my iPod as back up. But now, I cannot find out how to copy the files back to the new hard drive on the computor. The iTune program only advices me to delite all information on the iPod to substitute it with the much lesser library on the computer. Obviously it must be possible to copy in both directions. Apple does make external hard drives available at the Apple Store, however it is an end users responsibility to backup their system. Apple does offer classes to new users and their 1:1 service too, whether the subject of backing up is mentioned in these I do not know. The subject of backing up as a class "subject" may be something you may want to mention to Apple a www.apple.com/feedback.
Many users go through the same pain as your friend, myself included! However once you go through the pain, it is a lesson seldom forgotten.
Many experiences users on these forums have redundant methods of backing up. When it comes to backing up redundancy is wise, why because a backup can (and often do) fail too. For example, in addition to using Time Machine, I also have another EHD that I use to create a bootable clone of my computer. That way if both my internal drive and TM back fails the worst that will happen is I have a system I can boot from that is a day or so old and continue running until I get all my systems fixed. -
I have recently restored everything on my iMac after getting a new hard drive. When i try to use Elements, i get the following error code ERROR 150:30. Any ideas?
Did you use migration assistant to copy over programs, documents, and settings? You can't do that with PSE. Elements is not a tidy package in accordance with the apple developer guidelines. The installer strews stuff all of your hard drive in place the migration assistant isn't programmed to look and you can never hope to find all h the bits. You must always install PSE from scratch on a new machine. By attempting to copy it you have made a lot of trouble for yourself.
You will need to download and run this:
Use the CC Cleaner Tool to solve installation problems | CC, CS3-CS6
and then you can go around and manually remove what you can reach. Look in applications, your hard drive>library>application support>adobe, your username>library>preferences. In the user library also delete any saved application states for PSE.
Then you can reinstall from scratch. -
