Have I been scammed?

Im hoping not, as I think BT do try to be a decent company, and when the service is working, it works very well,
but do read on...
So I just recieved my bill with 2 unkown calls to an extortionate premium rate service: 0911 699 7660
and as a result, 2 calls =£50!
I called BT billing enquiries -  The advisor said all he knew was that it was a premium rate helpline called 'iHelpline' that dealt with facebook problems, or MS Word, or that type of thing and said it was nothing to do with BT. — just to note this is not something I would ever call about.
Dumbfounded, he proceed to say that it was a call made on my number, so it was tough luck, nothing he could do, and promptly put the phone down on me.
Now, you'd expect that from a poorly trained BT customer service adviser, if someone is being rude or impatient, but I was being neither of those. But curiously he sounded slightly panicky...
I cannot for the life of me know how these numbers have been called or whether they called me?
The only thing that I can figure out is that when looking back on these dates, I think I had phoned the BT technical helpline a number of times, when my newly installed bt infinity had stopped working after a few weeks.
Typically when I tried to access the internet, a BT home hub technical screen was presented in the browser - once I had gone through the automated help steps, eventually after no success a helpline number came up on my screen which I think was an 0800 number.
(BTW The problem was apparently due to the BT infinity modem being an old model, which suffice to say, wasn't dealt with by an engineer until a week later!).
Anyway this is the rather disturbing bit, if it's at all possible... 
At the time, obvioulsy I was desperate to get through to the BT technical help assistant, but during the call I seem to remember that I was put through to a different line - it was indeed a 'helpline' to help determine which BT service I should be put through to - but only after a number of questions had been answered. 
So here's my question: Is it possible that BT have set up a system to put you through to a premium line service, even though you started the call with a BT 0800 technical number?
I can't actually believe that would be the case, but I dont know what else to think. 
Has anyone else come across this? 
Anyway it seems there's not much I can do about this... any advice appreciated.

Hi. Welcome to the forums.
In answer to your last question about dialling 0800 and getting to the premium rate system (which has nothing to do with BT), it's not possible.
Also, if this company calls you - again you would not be charged.
Are the times of these calls shown on your bill ? Is it possible that someone else in your property could have called that helpline ? Do you use a dect phone ? Have there been other numbers on your bill you didn't recognise ?
BT tech help is 0800 111 4567.
There are other possibilities - one of which is an engineer making calls on a random phone line, picking up yours.
To be frank, I would contact the billing people again and say you wish to dispute the calls to that premium number and can it be investigated.

    hi guys. i have just been scammed. the same story, i was recorded on skype. i was so frightened that i even paid a small amount of money. i couldn't think properly right then. after that, i calmed a little and i found all this helpfull posts. i changed my privacy settings, blocked the scammers id, but he told that i must still pay him some money tomorrow. i said ok and i blocked him. i don;t know what is going to happen next or what i should do. hope he/she won't share the filming. do you have any advice? thanks

    first, I think you should immediately stop communicating with that user, and end all connections with them. Delete and block them in your social media accounts and other avenues that have been used to communicate with them.   Also if you give him more money, they will most likely ask you for more over and over again.  
    Then you can report them to [email protected], so Skype can check and investigate their account and possibly suspicious activities. I think they can do actions against their accounts such as suspending them or making them ineligible to use Skype services.
    However, I think Skype is only limited doing actions against their Skype accounts. So if you feel still necessary, you can also consider reporting this matter to your local police. Then your local police can contact Skype (most likely they already know how) to request for information or assistance that may possibly help them in their investigations.

    You copy them from your old computer or your backup copy of your old computer.
    The iphone is not a backup/storage device.

    You need to get the owner's manual for your Ford's bluetooth system to see how to put your system into discovery mode for the iPhone as well as the appropriate steps to take.

    I'm having a similar problem.  I had previously (over a year ago) purchased 2 episodes of Law & Order.  Then about 2 months ago, I purchased the 3rd season of Sons of Anarchy.  When I downloaded these episodes to my iPad, about a dozen full seasons of various shows popped up, too.  No money was removed from my iTunes account & theses particular shows aren't in my iTunes library on my desktop.  I've tried every which way to delete them from my ipad, but can't.  I went to the Apple store & they suggested I contact expresslane.apple.com for help.  I submitted my problem, via email Friday, as they asked, but have not received any response.  Any suggestions on how to get rid of these "phantoms?".

    And they were definitely purchased from the iTunes store, they show on the account's purchase history (Store > View Account on a computer's iTunes, or you can view the last 90 days purchases via http://reportaproblem.apple.com) ?
    You could potentially log into the account on that computer's iTunes (Store > Sign Out to log out of your account, that will then change to a Store > Sign In option) and redownload them by clicking on the id towards the top right of the iTunes screen and Purchased on the popup :
    But that will potentially tie that computer to that account for 90 days : Manage your associated devices in iTunes - Apple Support
    Or do you have a different computer that you could redownload them on and then copy them over to that computer via a flash drive or memory card, and then add them to its iTunes via File > Add To Library ?

    We need a bit more information to help.
    Are you trying to update your iPhone using iTunes on your computer?  If so, did you make purchases through the iTunes Store or App Store on your iPhone, and fail to sync them with your computer?  That is the likely meaning of what you are seeing.  If this is true, the purchases would be added to iTunes in your computer before the upgrade proceeds.

    Start with the most basic thing that you can try. Unplug the router from power for about 30 seconds, and restart the printer and the iPad and plug the router back into power.

    I have not been able to get my device running correctly, and altough I've read tons of things online, I still have no solution to my problem.
    Here's the thing: after everything's plugged in and ON, I see the Apple logo briefly, then the TV displays a sign that says no signal, check pwoer cords and power source.
    But everything is plugged in and connected properly, otherwise, I doubt I'd be seeing the apple logo, right?
    I tried changing the HDMI cable, reversing the ends, switching ports, hard resetting the ATV, and trying a different TV. No luck.
    I read there is some issue with Samsung TVs, and most LED and LCD tvs down here are Samsung.
    On the other hand, I cannot return it or exchange it, since I bought it in the states.
    Oh! One of the tvs I tried it on displays a little sign that reads "connected at 1280x720 @60hz", and only THEN, goes to the "no signal" sign.
    Please!!! I am being driven up the walls here.... HELP!!

    Try this:
    Change the Apple TV resolution:
    Press and hold the Menu and Up button on your Apple Remote for six seconds.
    The Apple TV will automatically cycle to the next resolution at approximately 20 second intervals.
    Press Play on the Apple Remote to keep the current resolution or Select to manually cycle to the next resolution.
