Have I bricked my motherboard?

Hello!
I got the P67A-GD55 REV B3 which has worked good for the last years, but I could never overclock my i5 2500K processor. I read up about it and it was becuase I used the 4.3 version of the bios. I read a post on this forums saying that I should have no problem to flash my BIOS to version 4.1 without doing any changes and that it might resolve the overclock issue.
I "downgraded" my bios to version 4.1 through the .exe that's found on MSI's driver page (now I realize that I should have upgraded through BIOS instead).
Windows wanted to restart as usual and now my computer just bootloops without any indication of response from external hardware. I get no picture on the monitor and the lights that usually indicate thet the keyboard is on never lights up.
I've tried clearing the CMOS, disconnecting all HDD's and CD players and I've tried using only one RAM-stick. I've also tried booting with the USB attached with only the BIOS-file in it (both with regular name and AMIBOOT.ROM, also tried CTRL + Home at startup).
Nothing works obviosly and all I get is the fans powerup for 15'ish seconds, the go to a lower speed for 5, and then back up for 15 seconds.
Does anyone have any more tips that I can try before I head out and buy a new MB? Any suggestions are welcome.
Regards,
W

Hi,
Yes sadly it does look like bricked motherboard. But once again, try >>Clear CMOS Guide<< with power cord removed.
Your possible options are:
-speak to local IT services and ask if they can flash it for you (using SPI programmer)
-contact MSI and ask for reflashin (costs may occur for delivery and job done) ; >>How to contact MSI.<<
-buy new motherboard
Then it looks like my only option is to contact the reseller since MSI doesn't handle motherboards in Sweden. Thank you very much for your answer!

  • My iPhone 4S went into lock-up with a screen display image of USB connector pointing to iTunes logo. I took it to a Verizon store and they said I have a brick lock and that only an Apple retail store 50 miles away could clear it

My iPhone 4S went into lockup with a screen displaying an image of the USB connector pointing to the iTunes logo. I was traveling and took the phone to the closest Verizon store. The store informed me that I had a brick lock and that only an Apple retail store could unlock the phone. The Verizon store explained that they have seen this problem with SEVERAL other 4S users who had upgraded to the new iOS7 operating system and that to their knowledge it is too demanding to work on pre-iPhone 5S phones having a far less capable processor. The closest Apple store was 50 miles away in King of Prussia, Pennsylvania. I went to that store three days later (today) to reset the phone before flying out of Philadelphia Intl. Airport. The Apple store personnel were overloaded and not sensitive to my plight. They told me that I would have to make a reservation for a time 2 hours later for tech support. I couldn't do that without missing my flight - out of luck until I get back to Los Angeles. If the Verizon store explanation is true, Apple needs to accommodate 4S and earlier generation users and not force them to upgrade to a $459 iPhone 5S!

The salesperson at Verizon has no clue what their saying.
My 4S and many of my friends works perfectly fine on IOS 7.3, no issue as all.

  • Is it possible to change just the ram on the motherboard (G5) or do you have to change the motherboard?

Is it possible to change just the ram on the motherboard (G5) or do you have to change the whole motherboard?

I do understand that... but this is the problem - The computer freezes when it is put to sleep (and sometimes more frequently). Apple told me that it could be three things: ram, hard drive or the motherboard. - take the ram out and then put the computer to sleep, if it still freezes than it is one of the other two and not the ram. They told me that there is ram on the motherboard. So I tried that and the computer wouldn't even boot up. So I thought the problem is the motherboard and possibly the ram on the motherboard. I really have no idea what I am doing, I just don't want to have to throw a $3,500 (when new) computer away.
    Thanks!

  • Have I Bricked my N900?

I have mistakenly flashed an older version of firmware onto my device, and now I don't know how to make it accept the correct version of firmware.
--- What brought me to this situation -----------------
    1. My N900 had be randomly shutting itself off for the last few weeks
    2. Two days ago I had multiple applications stop functioning, when I went to restart my N900 I got stuck on the Nokia Screen.  It would constantly restart itself over and over just after the Nokia Screen and the vibration.
    3. I looked up possible solutions for this error, and one was to flash the firmware.
    4. It was late, and I'm sometimes prone to not really reading exactly what is in front of me, so I mistakenly downloaded the first OS and EMMC file on the website.  I realized after I ran into problems that those were actually the oldest files, not the newest.
4a. For reference these are the files I downloaded:
         RX-51_2009SE_1.2009.42-11.002_PR_COMBINED_002_ARM.bin
         RX-51_2009SE_1.2009.41-1.VANILLA_PR_EMMC_MR0_ARM.bin
    5. During the flash process, I had done the OS first, and when I attempted to do the EMMC file it said that it was waiting for a suitable device to be connected.
    6. I gave up trying to flash in the EMMC so I restarted the device, it booted up into the Region select screen, but after completing those settings I saw that it had the SIM icon with a red line through it.
    7. I went back and noticed I had indeed downloaded the oldest files and proceeded to download the newest files, version 1.3.
    8. When I try and flash in this firmware though, the process can't continue as it still says that it is waiting for a suitable device to be connected.
Is there anything I can do to correct this? Have i esentially bricked the phone portion of the device?
Thanks in advance for any suggestions or help I may recieve.
    Kevin Sutton

    Hi Kevin.
Firstly, don't panic. It's almost impossible to brick the N900, unless you physically damage it in some way.
Secondly, the N900, as you've found out, hates being flashed to an older firmware.
Thirdly, flashing the EMMC isn't strictly needed. The EMMC flash was only needed on N900s that were handed out to developers at the launch party. So unless you've got one of these early devices and depending how much you've hacked it, the EMMC isn't all that inportant where flashing is confirmed.
Try re-flashing to the global 20.2010.36-2 without the EMMC flash and see how you get on.

  • If you replace a video card... do you have to replace the motherboard too?

so my pre-unibody mbp has a faulty video card. i'm told it needs to be replaced. is it true that having the video card replaced involves replacing the motherboard too?

If I may chime in, if you are a heavy photoshop user-the 13" is already not an option.  15" or 17" depending on your budget. You need the i7 processor and upgrading to 8gb ram wouldnt hurt either.  But dont get the ram from Apple..way overpriced.  See here: http://eshop.macsales.com/item/Other%20World%20Computing/1333DDR3S08S/. 8gb for $60-cant go wrong with that! And a lifetime guarantee.

  • I think I have a brick

Hello experts...I need your help. I have a 5G that was fine until I got 7.02 and the firmware update I think it was 1.2...when I tried to sync, it froze on the do not disconnect screen. I turned off the comp and it was still frozen. I tried to reset by holding down menu and select and it did reset but the hard drive inside the ipod would run for about 10 seconds and it would freeze again. I tried reinstalling itunes, the ipod software, reformatting the ipod as a fat32 drive and nothing works. The only thing it will do is reset and freeze. I am ready to cry!!
Thanks for any help you can give.
    Nancy

Please reset the reouter and then try to upgrade the firmware of the router
    1. Press and hold the reset button for 30 seconds.
    2. Then, unplug the power keep holding down the reset button for
    another 30 Seconds.
    3. Plug back the power back in, and keep holding down the reset button
    for 30 Seconds.
    4. Release the reset button.

  • I have MSI motherboard and MSI GE2Ti 64MB and can\'t get over 30 fps

I am addicted to playing CS, I used to have a PIII 866 motherboard that crashed.  I bought a MSI motherboard with a Celeron 1.7 and I have a MSI Ge2Ti 64MB DDR video card.  I used to have over 70 fps when playing in the old days, however with this new motherboard I cant get over 30 fps.  I thought that my video card was the culprit and I bought a new ATI Radeon 9000 with 128 MB DDR.  After installing it, I still have less than 30 fps  ?(   ;(
Before I purchased the Radeon, I tried tweaking the videocard with the rivatuner, but I had no great success.
The motherboard has a built-in video, can it be conflicting with the AGP card?
My motherboard is a MS-6524 and my video card is a MSI Ge2-Ti model 8855
    Any help is appreciated!

Running a P4 (or celeron4) with SDR memory results in very poor preformance, it's basicly ment for office/internet use.
That I would expect is a big part of the slowness, in fact a celeron 1.7 with SDR could very well be slower than the PIII 866 in many aspects.
Remember the P4 1.5 wuth RDRAM using the i850 chipset was barely any faster than the PIII 1.0GHz at the time it was released!
It might be a little late now, but if you need to keep your RAM the only CPUs today that could get something out of SDR are the AthlonXP's and PIII/Celeron socket370.
And AthlonXP 1800+ costs about the same as the celeron 1700 you have and a basic board with SiS735 or VIA KT133A chipset will cost about the same.

  • Might have a weak motherboard - any comments or advice?

This is the system I have setup
    AMD64 3200+
    MSI K8N Neo4 nForce4 Ultra
    Wavemaster Case
OCZ Gold Series Dual 1GB DDR PC-3200
    Thermalright XP-90
    OCZ ModStream 520W
    Sapphire Radeon X800 XL
I have been playing with the overclock for a few days. The machine runs very stable at stock speeds.
I have had a problem getting my fsb above 230 so I decided to isolate the HTT and the CPU and the Memory to see which was giving me the problem.
So I started with the HTT. I set my cpu mult to 8x and my memory to 166 and 2.5-3-3-8 2T and started pushing my fsb at htt 4x.
I was able to post at only 230 then I bumped my northbridge volage some but I could not get the board to post above 235fsb with htt set to 4x or 3x. The board runs fine at 200 htt5x though. So I thought maybe the hard drive sata port isnt locked so I unplugged my hard drive to see if the bios would post and it still did not work. It starts to post and then the hard drive light stays on and it just sits there.
So I backed off the clock to 230 and htt 4x and reset my cpu to 10x and my memory to 2-2-2-8 1T and the machine runs prime stable for 12 hours. This seems to tell me I have something in my motherboard that is not stable at almost any overclock level of the fsb. Any ideas or comments? Did I get a weak motherboard?
I have seen many people reaching the 270fsb level so I am not sure why my board can not come close to 250 which is my goal.
What I hoped  to run was 250 htt4x with the best memory timmings I could get. But right now the motherboard seems to be holding me back.
    Any help would be apreciated.

I have exactly the same problem. No problem with no OC, MemTest-86 and Prime95 ok.
    I saw a excellent article on anandtech.com:  http://forums.anandtech.com/messageview.aspx?catid=28&threadid=1497607&enterthread=y
First I tries to detect the max HTT/FSB. According to this article I put the CPU multi to 6, the memory to SPD, 2T and memoryclock to 100.
HTT to 4.0. CPU spread spectrum, PCI-e spread spectrum and SATA to disabled. Vcore 1.50V and Vmem 2.60V
FSB 200 en 210 ok. Then FSB 220 the BIOS doesn't start anymore. THe power- and the HDD-led lights continuous and no image on the screen.
I have to reset the BIOS with the button on the board to get back to normal.
I haven't tried Clockgen. As soon as I have results a report back.
    My system specs:
    BeQuiet Powersupply 400W, +12V 20A
    MSI K8N Neo4 Platinum BIOS 1.1
    Winchester 3200+
    Leadtek Geforce 6600GT
    2 x 512MB Crusial Ballistic PC3200
    120 Gb Maxtor
    Windows XP Pro S2
    nVidia nForce4 standalone driver v6.39

  • HP Envy 17 1050e HDMI port broken - do I have to replace the whole motherboard?

The HDMI port on my hp envy one day just fell out - I assume it has been pulled or pushed too hard. It looks like the ports are directly connected to the motherboard, can I somehow just stick it on again or buy it as a separate part or do I have replace the whole motherboard to make it work again? Any instructions are very wellcome!
    Thanks!

You need to bring that to a computer shop that has someone with a soldering station and good soldering skills.  The will also have to ascertain how much damage was done to the mother board.  Those things just don't fall out.  It have to be ripped out. If the pins just sheared, a new piece could be soldered back in after they unsolder the parts of the pins left behind.  If the mother board is damaged in that area, you may not be able to use HDMI. It will depend on them being able to repair the broken traces and you would have to be in a good shop for them to do that.  That may be time to search eBay.
