Have I damaged my iMac with notched RAM upgrade attempt?
i have a 21inch iMac, mid 2011 2.5ghz and decided to upgrade the RAM from 4 to 8gb (2x2 to 4x2) as this was supposed to be very easy (and only cost £35 or so from MrMemory) The problems started with getting the new RAM module in - basically I couldn't! Watching videos and reading instructions said it did take a bit of force, but I was really forcing without the module clicking into place. That **** tape seemed to be stopping it from sitting right. After several hours of swearing the tape broke and now the modules seemed to be finally sat in the slots. Turned on. Nothing at all! No beeps, nothing! Taking out the modules, I read up that the pairings may matter, but after the cat jumped on me, I don't know which ones are the new modules and which are the originals! Thought I would try putting pairs in to see if i could at least get it going. But now I'm getting nothing but the dreaded 3 beeps. I've tried all,combinations of the 4 2gb modules. Looking into the iMac's memory bay, I'm wondering if all my forcing has damaged it as I see a few loose metal strands in the memory slots? Plus those tapes are in bits so I've had to use long nose pliers to remove modules. Has this supposedly easy upgrade been so badly botched by me, I've knackered my Mac??!
Try to boot in Safe mode, see if you are able: Hold down shift and then power on. For wireless keyboards, hold down shift after the chime.

I have a late 2009 iMac, with the default Nvidia 9400 Graphics card.
I was wondering what my options are for upgrading. I use Windows 7 via Bootcamp, so I need a card that is compatible/has available drivers.
This is for gaming. On the lowest settings of "Call of Duty 4", I get about 100 FPS... Was hoping to be able to play on higher resolution w/o the fps lag.
I'm not good with the hardware part of computers at all, but know how to get around the OS.In most cases the graphics cards in iMacs are Not upgradeable. They are usually soldered to the logic board. RAM is considered, along with harddrives, the only component that is upgradeable in an iMac, unlike in PC's. So basically you would need to sell your unit and purchase an iMac with a more powerful graphics card.

I have a 27 inch iMac with maverick os. my current version of iMovie (10.0.6) will not open older projects i created in iMovie 9.0.9. I can find the projects and they have a ".rcproject" file extension

I have moved the Event and Project Folders to the "top-layer of the drive" as the instructions state, right alongside the System Folder, Users Folder and Applications Folders.
When I open iMovie 10.0.8, the Events and Projects Folders are empty:
When I select File/Update Projects and Events, I get an alert box that says iMovie couldn't find any:
Not knowing exactly what is meant by the "top layer" in the instructions, I moved the Events and Project folders back inside the "Movies" folder where I found them (but then not where I would call the "top" layer, but rather "iMac/Users/Home/Movies/iMovieProjects". Then I tried to "Update Projects and Events" and received the same alert: "iMovie could not find any projects or events to update."
Then I tried to update iMovie 9.0 (iMovie '11 version 9.0 (1073)) to version 9.0.9 .
[As an aside, the nomenclature of iMovie drives me nuts. The latest version is 10.0.8, which us newer than iMovie '11.]
Back to the update of version 9.0 to 9.0.9.
Presumably because I have version 10.0.8 installed, I got this alert box:
So, I cannot update version 9.0
and I cannot "Update" the Events and Projects created in version 9.0. -
I have purchased a new iMac, with Safari 5.0.5, but it won't retain bookmarks, I thought I can download a new Safari from Apple. So I deleted Safari from the application folder.
Then I tried to download Safari from Firefox but after finish download, what I got was a dmg file, with a pkg icon (an opened box) and it can't be installed. Same with Google Chrome.
My question is: how can I download Safari? And will it retain bookmarks?Reinstall Safari from the Optional Installs.pkg on your Mac install disc that came with your iMac. Or in your case, you use Pacifist to extract the Safari app from the .dmg file.

In the future, rather then deleting an app, come here and ask for help first. More times then not, you will save yourself time and trouble. -

I have bought a Apple iMac with Retina 5K display yesterday! But today I read something negative about this Imac regarding to to Adobe Creative Cloud, - so I would ask if I can use this iMac with Retina 5K with all my Adobe Creative Cloud programs??
I have not unpack it yet, so I would be happy if you could tell me if I should keep it or exchange another Mac if this iMac with Retina 5K display does not work OK in Adobe Creative Cloud. I mostly use the programs Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, and Muse.

I have a 2008 vintage iMac with 2.8GHz processor and recently upgraded to OS X 10.9.5. Soon after theupgrade the mail system started switching the senders address to another address, but same user name. How do you fix this?

Even more details:
If I send a message to the Jane Doe address from another account on this machine (all my family uses the same email services provider and each have accounts set up on this machine), when you open it, it shows Jane Doe then the <applejax.xx> address AND the picture associated with the Apple Jax account.
So the problem shows up when the message is sent to this account from this machine, AND when it is sent from this machine from this account. No other accounts on the machine are effected.
I have sent and received email messages from the mail service provider's website, and everything is fine. -
I have the l latest iMac with the Lion OS. Can it be used as a secondary monitor to a PC laptop? If so, how is this accomplished?
This is called Target Display mode, unfortunately this isn't possible with a current iMac unless the PC Laptop has a Thunderbolt outpout port which I'm certain it does not. Please read both Target Display Mode Mid 2011 iMacs & if you are interested Target Display Mode 2009 & 2010 iMacs.

You can upgrade to OS X Mountain Lion and Mavericks. I recommend you to upgrade to OS X Mavericks because it is the most recent version and it is free.
Open the Mac App Store and download OS X Mavericks for free. While it's being downloaded, make a backup of your files with Time Machine and check that your apps are supported > http://www.roaringapps.com

iCloud requires OS X 10.7.2 or later, so you have to upgrade to OS X Mountain Lion or Lion.
First, see if your Mac is supported > http://www.apple.com/osx/specs If it's supported, open App Store and purchase Mountain Lion. While Mountain Lion is downloading, you can make a backup of your data.
When the download finishes, the installer will show up, so follow the steps to upgrade Mac OS X. After upgrading, you will be able to log in iCloud in System Preferences > iCloud.

I have recently stretched my budget as far as I can and have purchased my first Imac! I am really excited about getting it , its an i5 2.7ghz and i went for the 8gb ram upgrade. My question is will this be enough to run logic studio to produce music and record vocals?
If you have a similar setup please le me know how it runs for you. I would also like to hear about the average number of plugins you can run and any other tip to get the most out of your processor.
Logic Studio will be the only big program running on it, I plan to get a blue icicle converter and a blue condenser microphone for vocal recording so I hope the Imac is up to the task!

this is the post that has much of the same issue but my difference is that i am on Indesign 5.5.
To shed some more insight, I am trying to make a press quality PDF direct from Indesign.
I have 2 pages in my document, I was able to get one page PDFed buth the larger was not able to.Why won't it PDF? What error is it showing? Do other presets work? What does your layout look like?
Have you tried removing elements one at a time and exporting it and seeing which element is causing the issue?
Have you got images on the page - perhaps resaving them to a different format and relinking them will help?
I sincerely doubt it's out of memory, seen as I work on a computer with 3gb RAM and a Intel Core 2 2.13ghz processor and I never get that issue.
