Have I lost 8 months work?
For months I have been assembling a slideshow of seven hundred photos selected from thousands of pictures taken on my last vacation, a month traveling in England. I have carefully chosen and timed each picture individually and picked transitions that add to the effect. I have edited the Ken Burns effect into nearly all my photos in one way or the other and have finally added music.
I have a slideshow that I would love to share with friends and family. I am ready to burn, only to find that iPhoto does not allow me to burn my slideshow to DVD. I have invested a printer that prints labels directly on my blank DVDs and designed a label with my own photography. I have 20 label-printed DVDs ready to burn and a seemingly useless slideshow.
Have I done thousands of hours of work only to keep it to myself? Apple, you have never let me down. Why this great oversight?
You can burn the QuickTime movie to DVD using iDVD.
Just open iDVD, choose your theme, and go to the Media tab, then Movies and drag your QT movie right into the main screen of iDVD. Make sure you are not in a drop zone.
This is actually one of the best ways to burn a slideshow to iDVD.
Although you can create a slideshow in iDVD by dragging the album of photos into iDVD, and the photos will be in the correct order, you will not be able to have KB effects, and you can use only one transition. Also, although iDVD may tell you that there is no longer the 99 slide limitation, some people have found that DVD players do not recognize slides after the first 99.
So, burn that wonderful slideshow from the QT movie! You should make a disk image first, and burn your 20 disks from that.

Have I lost my work? Pages 5.2.2 automatically opens current work and I've been working on it for a few days. I (belatedly realised) I had never actually saved the document. My internet connection was not operational this morning so I got the spinning lollypop. I forced quit and restarted Pages and got a message saying I had forced quit. I had a choice to Reopen, which didn't work or Don't Open. You guessed it, I clicked Don't Open then realised the file had never been saved. Can someone put me out of my misery? It's gone forever hasn't it?

My old computer (a Sony) with my iTunes crashed. I have a new MAC and want to make sure I can keep all of my music (mostly from old CD's that have been lost). I bought iTunes match hoping that would work but it isn't using the data on my phone. HELP!
Since you have purchased a new Mac (which, BTW, is not typed in all capitals) why not buy a Time Capsule <http://www.apple.com/airport-time-capsule/> which is designed specifically to work with OS X and Time Machine?
You don't say what part of your Sony "crashed." If it was not the HDD it is possible to take the computer apart, put the HDD in an external case, then recover the data off of it (including the music) simply drag-n-drop. If it was the HDD that "crashed" that makes it more difficult.
If you are able to recover the music from the Sony you can then add it to the iTunes library on the Mac and iTunes Match will then scan, match and upload the tracks to be mirrored in the cloud. -
I have a apple component AV TV out cable (red, green,blue + red,white) and have had this connected to TV for about 6 months working fine. I moved the TV disconnected cables to move now I can only get video and no sound back on TV. Any suggestions ?

Since you are using one of the the school's Macbooks, it is quite possible that the time and date are not properly set on the computer that you are using. FaceTime will not work if you do not have the proper time zone set up for the location that you are in. This past week, there were a two other Macbook users I've helped by simply telling them to set the Date/Time properly. By the way, you described your problem very well, which makes it easier for us to help you. Hope this solves your problem -- if not, post back and I can suggest other remedies.

I backed up my iphone 4 before updating to my iphone 5 and it restored to default settings. As a result, I have lost all my photos. Is there any way to reverse the back up as I have a 2 month old baby and desperatly want to retrieve my photos :-(
Pictures are designed to be copied off the device regularly as would be done with any digital camera. There is no logical reason why anyone would fail to do this with supposedly important pictures.
If a recent backup exists, it is also possible to restore the device from the most recent backup, this may restore pictures to the device. If it does, COPY THEM OFF THE DEVICE IMMEDIATELY for safekeeping. -
I updated my Iphone4 and had the m.calendar app with all of my daily temperatures saved, since the update after even after synching the iphone to itunes I have lost months of tracking I am devastated!! can anyone help get it back
I don't understand this answer. What do you mean " your contacts should be in whatever program/service you have selected to sync."? The address book is created on the phone not in Itunes or any other program/service. When Itunes says backing up phone I have to assume it backs up everything on the phone. Most of what's on my phone does not come out of itunes. I download apps directly on the phone. When the software updates it does not bring those apps back. I have to go into the appstore and install them all over again. Itunes music library syncs with whatever is on the device your linked up to BUT the phone book just dissappears after you update the phone. There is no way to save it anywhere else.

If your phone is in recovery mode, all data are gone. Connect the phone to iTunes on your computer and restore.

I tried to open my iphoto last night on my iMAC and it somehow updated on it's own and now has a message saying "The photo library needs to be upgraded to work with this version of iPhoto. Your photo library will not be readable by previous versions of iPhoto after the upgrade.The upgrade process for very large libraries may take an hour or more to complete." I only have the option to quit or upgrade. What does this mean? Have i lost my pictures? i don't properly have my back up hard drive set up so all my pictures aren't backed up.

After your iPhoto application got updated to a new version, iPhoto will convert the iPhoto library to a new format, that is used by the new version. The warning tells you, that after this upgrade older iPhoto versions will no longer be able to read the iPhoto library. If you have a second Mac with older software that might be important. Make a backup to be on the safe side and let iPhoto upgrade the library. -
I installed the LR CC, signed in and out, restarted computer, UN-installed CC and installed again, signed in and out several more times. Nothing!!! I have Lr5 and it works fine, Lr6/CC will not open. I'm lost!!

I backed up my iphone5 using iCloud before downloading the new ISO software. I have now lost all my pictures and messages as the backup doesn't seem to have worked even though it says last backed up today 17:12. Is there anything I can do?
Backing up doesn't change or delete anything on the phone. I am guessing you restored your phone using iCloud.
If you did not have a backup of it made before you did 'whatever it was you did', then the information is gone. -
Refused to load project - nearly lost months & months of work
I re-loaded the latest (and 22nd.) version of a DVD SP project that I have been working on for 9 months, as video was shot and included. I had worked on it only half an hour before. As it loaded I got "Sequence FIN-00000001 not found. Cannot proceed without it." I pressed DVD SP's Search button but it couldn't find it and DVD SP stopped the loading process and then quit. End of 9 months work!
That file looks exactly like an FCE render file, but why was DVD SP wanting to use a render file? I tried to re-load earlier DVD SP projects, starting with the latest-but-one but they had the same fault. About 6 versions back I got a more helpful message: "Two Landscapes.mov" file is in an unsupported format. Can't proceed." I searched for this (I recognised it as a video file used by my DVD SP project) and it would not open (it gave an error message). So I re-exported it from FCE and could load my latest DVD SP project. Whew!
What caused it was most likely this. I was doing an operation on the DVD SP project using the mouse and had slight finger trouble. A blank error message box appeared and sat there. I had to force quit DVD SP and then could not re-load the project. Whatever I did must have corrupted the movie file so that when DVD SP looked for it when loading my project it gave up. But there remain two questions:
1. How could DVD SP corrupt a movie file? It was just sitting there ready to be included in the various assets required for the project. How did DVD SP have the ability to corrupt a movie file - it was simply looking for it to list it in the Assets window, not running it, least of all saving a corrupted version?;
2. DVD SP should have been programmed by Apple to simply report that the asset was corrupted and continue to load the rest of the project. In such circumstances no good software should refuse to load, so causing the loss of hundreds or hours of work.
A Black mark for Apple, to be added to the other Black Mark about photoshop files (ending in .psd) with transparency causing FCE to refuse to load any version of a PAL project with that file in it, so resulting in much loss of work - a bug which has been known to Apple for over a year, possibly two, and Apple has done nothing about it.
I hope this will help anyone else getting this bug.As it loaded I got "Sequence FIN-00000001 not found. Cannot proceed without it."
It sounds like you bought a reference movie into DVD SP from FCE and that the render file was either moved/deleted, which could also make the other message appear about unsupported .mov. The re-export took care of the issue it sounds like.
That is one of the reasons I prefer exporting self contained from FC and then encode outside DVD SP, may be worth trying down the road, though it would be good if this type of thing did not totally trash a project like you mentioned. -
