Have i lost my library forever???

Hi all,
I know other people have asked this.
I have my itunes library on a pc which has recently packed up.
The computer does not power up the hard drive so i have no way of getting in to it.
I have bought a laptop to replace it and now need to retrieve my itunes library but when i log in i have nothing.
Is there something i need to do or have i lost my library forever.
Any help much appreciated.

The first thing you need to do is get the hard drive out of your packed up PC. Find out it's size, and connector (PATA, SATA, etc) and buy an external hard disk caddy (USB preferably). Put the hard drive in the caddy, attach to your new computer, and you'll have access to your old data
Whilst it's not helpful at the moment, please research how to backup your data in the future: Using the above method, you'll now have an external hard disk in which to backup to!

Have I lost my photos forever? URGENT HELP NEEDED!!

Here's the situation. I have a G5 PowerMac, and I recently uploaded photos from my camera. I wanted to burn them to a CD so I took the original picture folders from the harddrive (my bad) and dragged them onto a blank CD. Once I had them on there, I dragged one folder off again to organize them better and got the following error message:
"The alias "21" could not be opened because the original item cannot be found."
Of course I deleted the **** things off my camera already. It gives me the option to:
a) Delete Alias
b) Fix Alias
c) OK
Fixing the alias launches a new browse window that wants me to locate the original file, which would be fine except the file that I put on the CD WAS the original file. It won't let me choose the same file.
I can still see the thumbnails in iPhoto, but I can't do anything to them, can't drag and drop, can't open them in Photoshop, can't even preview them. I spent a good 1/2 hour on the phone on hold with Apple only to be transferred 3 times and then told it would cost a MINIMUM of $60 to troubleshoot this issue, no resolution guaranteed.
Please, please, please someone tell me if there is some way to restore these photos!!

I find the whole burn folder deal and alias thing a little confusing. I remember the first time I went to burn my iPhoto Library folder. After I burned the folder, I was afraid to delete the iPhoto Library folder that was in the burn folder. For days I just kept it there, afraid that if I deleted it, I would delete my iPhoto Library folder that was in my Pictures folder. I ended up making a copy of the iPhoto Library folder in my Pictures folder just in case. Then I deleted the iPhoto Library folder in the burn folder. I checked my Pictures folder and the Library was still there, so I then deleted the copy I made.

The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Click here and follow the instructions. You may need to completely remove and reinstall iTunes and all related components, or run the process multiple times; this won't normally affect its library, but that should be backed up anyway.

I have iphoto 08 version 7.1.5. I copied photos from recent - last import into albums. I then deleted the photos and emptied the trash. Today all the albums are empty and the photos are nowhere in the library. Have I lost them all?

I go down to my Albums and find the picture in one of them:
I hover over the pic so the little down arrow appears in the bottom right-hand corner. I click on it, then click on the Trash Can in the window that drops down:

I tried to open my iphoto last night on my iMAC and it somehow updated on it's own and now has a message saying "The photo library needs to be upgraded to work with this version of iPhoto. Your photo library will not be readable by previous versions of iPhoto after the upgrade.The upgrade process for very large libraries may take an hour or more to complete." I only have the option to quit or upgrade. What does this mean? Have i lost my pictures? i don't properly have my back up hard drive set up so all my pictures aren't backed up.

After your iPhoto application got updated to a new version, iPhoto will convert the iPhoto library to a new format, that is used by the new version. The warning tells you, that after this upgrade older iPhoto versions will no longer be able to read the iPhoto library. If you have a second Mac with older software that might be important. Make a backup to be on the safe side and let iPhoto upgrade the library.

Why have I lost all the books in my IBooks library since it was updated to iBooks 1.5. My library is now blank & I'm not a happy chappie!

You can redownload any purchased books without syncing with your PC. To do this, open iBooks on your iPad, click on the Store button at the upper left of the screen. Once the store loads, you'll see a tab labeled Purchased on the navigation bar at the bottom of the screen. Click there and you'll be able to download any books that you purchased from the iBookstore.

Well then maybe I misunderstood what you meant even though now that you explained it again, I should have though about that.
When you leave the house in the morning with your device, you lose the connection to the library because you are no longer on the same WiFi network as you are at home. You have to be on the same network in order to use Home Sharing. Once you get home again, you have to select the Shared Library again.

For music that you've purchased from Apple that are on your iPhone you should be able to copy to your computer's iTunes via File > Transfer Purchases. Also if you are in the US then you should be able to re-download past music purchases for free : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2519
For your own music that you've copied, then if you haven't got a backup on, for example, external drives or CDs/DVDs then you could see if any of the utilities mentioned in this old post still exist and work
