have upgraded to a computer running Windows 8.1. I installed PSE9 and PrE9 using the original download files. There was no problem with this and the programmes work. However I cannot download the updates available. Each time I try the updater appears to download the files then says "there is an error please quit and try again". Does this mean I need to upgrade?
You should use a tool called MDT (Microsoft Deployment Toolkit) which is the recommended way to deploy microsoft os:es if you don't have System Center configuration manager.

Your current camera roll is stored in iCloud via the backup, and the photos in Photo stream are also stored in iCloud for about 4 weeks.
However, once you delete them on your iPad, they will disappear from your backup the next time it runs.
The best way to sort your issue out is to:
1) Connect a Windows or OS X computer to Photo Stream. This will get your current photos onto your computer.
and/or
2) Connect your iPad to a Windows or OS X computer through the USB cable, and sync the photos across before deleting them from your iPad. This will get photos and videos.

That suggests that another application has stashed old QuickTime componentry in your system files.
So just in case we'll go looking for older QuickTime componentry in the most common locations for it to be stashed.
First we'll need to change some view settings.
In your Start menu, open Computer.
In your Organise menu, select Folder Options.
In the View tab, make sure that "Show hidden files and folders" is selected, and Hide extensions for known file types is unchecked.
Click OK.
Now in Computer, open your C:\ drive (or whichever drive you have your operating system installed on).
Open the "Windows" folder.
If you have a 32-bit version of Windows, open the "System32" folder.
If you have a 64-bit version of Windows, open the "SysWOW64" folder.
What files and folders can you see in there with QuickTime in the title? (In a standard installation of Quicktime you should be seeing precisely two files... QuickTime.qts and QuickTimeVR.qtx ... and no QuickTime folders whatsoever.) -

Try this first - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.)
Or this - Delete the account in Mail and then set it up again. Settings->Mail, Contacts, Calendars -> Accounts Tap on the Account, then on the red button that says Remove Account.

I have a Mac running OS X 10.6.8 and have installed all updates and have disabled Java Applets. Do I need to install antivirus software and, if so, do you have a recommendation on what works best.
Mac OS X versions 10.6.7 and later have built-in detection of known Mac malware in downloaded files. The recognition database is automatically updated once a day; however, you shouldn't rely on it, because the attackers are always at least a day ahead of the defenders. In most cases, there’s no benefit from any other automated protection against malware.
The most effective defense against malware is your own intelligence. All known malware that affects a fully-updated installation of Mac OS X 10.6 or later takes the form of trojans, which can only work if the victim is duped into running them. If you're smarter than the malware attacker thinks you are, you won't be duped. That means, primarily, that you never install software from an untrustworthy source. How do you know a source is untrustworthy?

Disable Java (not JavaScript) in your web browser(s). Few websites have Java content nowadays, so you won’t be missing much. This setting is mandatory in Mac OS X 10.5.8 or earlier, because Java in those versions has bugs that make it unsafe to use on the Internet. Those bugs will probably never be fixed, because those older operating systems are no longer being maintained by Apple. Migrate to a newer version of the Mac OS as soon as you can.
Follow these guidelines, and you’ll be as safe from malware as you can reasonably be.
Never install any commercial "anti-virus" products for the Mac, as they all do more harm than good. If you need to be able to detect Windows malware in your files, use ClamXav — nothing else. -
I am unable to open Safari. It was working yesterday before I installed the update. The update seemed to be automatic when I restarted my computer. I am running 10.9.5. I don't want to lose my contacts, bookmarks etc if I have to delete the app. Any suggestions?
Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:

I have a 2008 MacPro running the current Yosemite. I have installed the recommended upgraded video card, but the sound is as it was new. I also have installed the sound amp/graphic equalizer called "BOOM!" I have the Sound set to Line Out which should have the computer boot up automatically to BOOM! and thus to the external speakers. Instead, it boots up to the Internal speaker. According to the folks at "BOOM!", this is happening to others who have similar Macs. They can't find any explanation within BOOM!, so I am turning to you all. Any ideas?Hi Kappy ...
Sorry, I guess I didn't state the problem very well.
I don't want the computer to boot up to the internal speaker. I want it to boot up to the external speakers. However, even though System Preferences is set on Line Out, when the computer boots up or reboots, it erroneously goes to internal speaker. So, every time I boot up, I have been going to System Preference/Sound and clicking on Line Out. From that point on, everything is OK until the next boot up. It is a small annoyance, but annoying all the less. The simple explanation seems to be that when the computer is shut down, it does not hold the setting for Line Out and resets itself to Internal Speaker. How do I change that behavior and get it to go to Line Out whenever it boots up? -

(Win 7/Vista) - START/ALL PROGRAMS/ACCESSORIES, right mouse click "Command Prompt", choose "Run as Administrator".
(Win XP SP2 n above) - START/ALL PROGRAMS/ACCESSORIES/Command Prompt
In the "Command Prompt" screen, type in
netsh winsock reset
Hit "ENTER" key
Restart your computer.
If you do get a prompt after restart windows to remap LSP, just click NO.
Now launch your iTunes and see if it is working now.
