Have just purchased iPad 2 how do I get started without iTunes?

Just got my iPad 2 and iPhone 4s and have set up an apple I'd and password but how can I get my iPad to work when I haven't got a computer with iTunes on to plug it into? I have registered online instead but the ipd still won't connect to server and therefore won't let me use the iPad?

Usually it's because you are not connecting to the internet via wifi.

Additional things to try.
Try this first. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.

Another thing to try - Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.

sign in with your apple id on the new phone, then go to app store - update - purchase - all/not on this phone and hit the cloud next to the app to downlaod.

Sign out of the App Store, close the App Store app and reboot the iPad, sign in again and then go back and try again.
Settings>iTunes and App Store. Tap your Apple ID and sign out.
Close the App Store. Double tap the home button and you will see apps lined up going left to right across the screen. Swipe to get to the App Store app and then swipe "up" on the app preview thumbnail to close it.
Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.
Go go back to Settings>iTunes and App Store. Sign in again. Go to the App Store and see if the apps appear for downloading now.

I find the four videos in the Finder under Movies. I can open with iTunes, but how would I import them into iTunes so I can share and view on my Apple TV, iPads and iPhones?

Or drag and drop the file(s) onto the iTunes window.
Personally I had good experience with the mp4 format, which is the iTunes native format!
Once the files have been added they will show up under the section MOVIES.
From there you can give your videos further Meta Data to keep them organised, i.e. have them showing in the section TV SHOWS all under one TITLE.
