Have Lightroom 5 but Catalogue is in Lightroom 4. How can I move it to Lightroom 5?

A year ago I bought Lightroom 5. For some reason I didn't immediately change my catalog to Lightroom 5 and it continues in LR 4. I have several questions which might be related.
1. How can I bring it into LR 5?
2. Why am I constantly getting reminders to upgrade my LR 5 from version 5.2 to 5.7 but, when I try to download, nothing happens?
3. I have over 500GB of Lightroom backups in my C drive some LR2 some LR3 some LR4, some LR4.2 and some LR 4 2.2. Can I erase any of the older ones to free up space?
4. Should I be backing up my catalogs also into my external Hd?
5 My imports sometimes end up in C and I cannot find them. Why am I unable to direct new imports to my F drive where I keep my pictures? I cannot see a" destination" button in my import settings.

Question 3. They are catalog backups and there are many because I have it backing up each time I close Lightroom.
They are in C / users/my name/ My pictures/Lightroom/Lightroom 2 catalog Previews.lrdata (also 3, and 4 4.2 and 4.2.2) It uses up 250 GB (lightroom claims I have over 170,000 images!!!!!!!) What is going on? How can I get down to what I really have?

Go to Settings>iCloud, turn Contacts to Off, choose Delete from My iPhone when prompted (they will still be in iCloud).
Download the app My Contacts Backup to your phone. Use this app to backup the remaining contacts on your phone (from your exchange account) as a vCard attachment to an email that you send to yourself. Confirm that you have received the email on your phone.
Go to Settings>iCloud and turn Contacts back to On.
Go to Settings>Mail,Contacts,Calendars>Default Account (in the Contacts section), set this to iCloud. (This will cause new contacts added to your phone to be added to the iCloud account.)
Go to Settings>Mail,Contacts,Calendars...tap your exchange account and turn off contacts syncing (otherwise you will end up with duplicates on your phone).
Open the My Contacts Backup email and tap the attachment to import the contacts from your exchange account back to your phone. They will be added to iCloud and appear on icloud.com and any other devices syncing contacts with your account.

Go to: Apple > System Preferences > Universal Access and in the Seeing tab make sure that the Display Enhance contrast: is set to Normal.

I found a partial solution. I went ahead and installed the Creative Cloud to the desktop (that red and white icon). Then I opened that up. At the top right hand corner there is a little thing that looks like a gear. If you click on that and select "preferences" from the drop down menu, there is a place to specify the applications location. It would be better if there was a way to install the Creative Cloud off of drive C also. Maybe in Adobe's future that they will restore the ability to choose install drive.

How can I process pics in Lightroom that have uploaded from my IPad?

How can I process pics in Lightroom that I have uploaded from my IPad? I have managed to copy pics from the IPad into a file located in My Lightroom Pictures (and located on an external Hard Drive), which is where I put all my pictures. I an see the file in Finder and can even work with them as a Project in IPhoto, but nothing happens in Lightroom.

To import photos from your iPad into your Windows computer, I would suggest that you use the steps in this article -

Note that by default the pictures are placed in the “My Pictures” folder. Once imported you can see your photos there and use whatever application you want to view or manage them.

If you are sure that you have sound in other apps - and if you can still hear keyboard clicks and get notifications, then system sounds are not muted. Try this and see if it works.
Close all apps completely and reboot the iPad.
Go to the home screen first by tapping the home button. Double tap the home button and the recents tray will appear with all of your recent apps displayed at the bottom. Tap and hold down on any app icon until it begins to wiggle. Tap the minus sign in the upper left corner of the app that you want to close. Tap the home button or anywhere above the task bar.
Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.

I have moved my library to an external hard drive and changed the location of the iTunes media folder in Preferences, but every time I close and re-open iTunes, I have to do it all over again. How can I make the iTunes media folder change permanent? I have an older machine with Windows XP.

I don't believe mounting the hard drive should be necessary, unless you have several external drives and want your computer to recognise them as folders, rather than drives. I've never had to mount a hard drive, ever. If you don't know how to do it, then it shouldn't be necessary now.
Try this:
Prepare iTunes so that it can see the external drive.
Make a note of which drive-letter the external drive has been allocated. (Look in Windows Exploer)
Look at the file location for a song. Make sure it plays (and therefore that iTunes has found it). Highlight it and select File/Get Info/Summary>Where: and make a note of the drive letter for that song.
Close and shut down the computer.
The next time you turn the computer on again, connect the external drive
Before you start iTunes - check the external drive in Windows Explorer. Is it ready, does it have the same drive-letter that it had last time? Can you go into the drive and see the files on it?
Once you can, start iTunes. (If the drive lettter has changed, you need to work out why before going any further.)
If iTunes fails to find your external drive, you need to check where iTunes is looking for your Library.
Select the same song you checked before (presumably iTunes can no longer find it). Follow the procedure for locating it. You should be able to see where iTunes thinks the file is. It's the drive that counts. Which drive letter is iTunes looking at? Is it the same one that it was previously (which should also be the same one that the drive has now).

She can choose to either enable the setting on her iPod to Manually manage music and videos. With setting enabled she can sync content to her iPod from multiple computers without it affecting whats already stored her iPod. For more information on syncing content to an iPod manually see this article.

However, I would recommend copying whats on her iPod to her iTunes library first. There are several ways to accomplish this. See this older post from another forum member Zevoneer discussing the different ways to do it.
