Have MSI P35 Neo2-FR mobo, want 8GB RAM (4x2GB), anybody knows compatible ram?

I have MSI P35 Neo2-FR motherboard and want to buy 8GB ram, preferably 4x2GB(2x2GB + 2x2GB). Anybody has such a setup and can recomend some RAM?
I dont want to buy some random ram, because the motherboards are very picky when youn install the maximum supported ram.

Crucial tend to have quite compatible RAM across boards. On their site you can enter your motherboard model to find the RAM that is compatible. A gave it a run and the following is compatible:
Part #: CT2KIT25664AA667 • DDR2 PC2-5300 • CL=5 • Unbuffered • NON-ECC • DDR2-667 • 1.8V • 256Meg x 64
Part #: CT2KIT25664AA800 • DDR2 PC2-6400 • CL=6 • Unbuffered • NON-ECC • DDR2-800 • 1.8V • 256Meg x 64
Part #: CT2KIT25664AA1067 • DDR2 PC2-8500 • CL=7 • Unbuffered • NON-ECC • DDR2-1066 • 1.8V • 256Meg x 64
Part #: BL2KIT25664AA80A • DDR2 PC2-6400 • 4-4-4-12 • Unbuffered • NON-ECC • DDR2-800 • 2.0V • 256Meg x 64
Part #: BL2KIT25664AL80A • DDR2 PC2-6400 • 4-4-4-12 • Unbuffered • NON-ECC • DDR2-800 • 2.0V • 256Meg x 64
Part #: BL2KIT25664AR80A • DDR2 PC2-6400 • 4-4-4-12 • Unbuffered • NON-ECC • DDR2-800 • 2.0V • 256Meg x 64
The above are all 4GB kits so obviously you'd need to buy two packs to get the 8GB.

You do need a 64-bit OS to access the full 4GB or 8GB so also bear that in mind.

  • MSI P35 Neo2-FR warranty

    Hi
I have a MSI P35 Neo2-FR purchased in the UK, does anybody know the warranty length on this motherboard?
    Thanks

    Quote
I don't think so. If it's long in stock at the reseller's, then the end-user wouldn't have any waranty left.
Yes that is the default warranty set up, I believe if it is within 24 months purchased by the end user from the reseller MSI might make an adjustment on thie system and honnor it.  In the UK the reseller is obligated for 12 months warranty and manufacturer warrnaty is a bonus.  If it was purchased from a large reseller I would contact them first, if you have to send to MSI UK thier will be a delay while they get enought faulty product to send over to the repair centre in poland, larger resellers have direct RMA accounts and send faulty product straight to the poland repair centre.

  • MSI P35 NEO2-FIR, Traces of fire...

    Hello,
During dust cleanup of my PC. I noticed a burned part of my MSI P35 Neo2-FIR mobo, i wonder if it is still save to use now, maybe someone have any idea what does that 'chip?' is responsible for ?
    Photos:

It looks like it's a resistor in the +5V power circuit to JUSB1. Must have been something plugged into it at one time or another that short circuited/overloaded it it and fried the resistor. What was plugged into the JUSB1 header? If all else is OK if you need to use any front panel USB device you can use JUSB2 or 3 instead. Get a volt meter and check the PSU for correct voltage of +5V to see if PSU is still OK as whatever caused that damage may have also damaged PSU.

  • MSI P35 NEO2 FIR voltage problems!!

    Let's start:
     I have MSI P35 NEO2 FIR ,e5200,2 x Geil ultra plus 1066+,as us 2900CT,lcpower 6550g and...rest- not so important for my questions.
1.My problem is next: default voltage values for my RAM is ~2.2-2.4 every time I check in windows (speedfun, sisoft Sandra, everest..)shows me 2.0 or some time even 1.8v  . When i change voltage in bios and went to win voltage on RAM is still unchanged (2.0v)  .
Same thing happen with NB voltage. But CPU voltage I can change freely with no problem.
When I change fsb(try to overclock) suddenly memory voltage rises how i do not now  , but only to 2.35 and no more.
Can anyone help me fix this problem because my memory is not stable at 2.0 or 1.8 sometimes and system crashes?
2.When i change cpu settings from 12.5*200 to (example)10*300 in windows even in system properties see that my current clock is 12.5*300=3750 and not 10*300=3000 like it should be .
    Is it bios problem?
    My bios version is 1.9.
    Thanks!

same problem with the Neo2 FR (like mine). After quite of bit of researching and testing i reckon that software can not correctly read the vRAM on these MSI boards. I found that Speedfan, Everest, and HardwareMonitor all gave an incorrect reading for my RAM's voltage. Also, if i increased the cpu voltage in the BIOS then the voltage monitoring programs would show an increase in CPU voltage and RAM voltage (even though i had not changed the latter).

I want to overclock and i want to change the multiplier to make some tests ! And i can`t do that without EIST DISABLED !
OK, stay calm.  Getting frustrated is only going to make people not reply.
I'm not sure why disabling EIST is giving you a BSOD.  I don't think anyone has any ideas since you have no real replies.
A kernel trap is hardware failure usually.  Makes me think when you disable EIST, the machine becomes unstable.   Are you setting the default multiplier for your processor?  Hell, we don't even know what it is.  How about you list your rig specs?
Just to add:  Overclocking with EIST enabled is pretty much the same.  You save power, so I don't know why you'd want to turn it off, in all honesty.

  • MSI P35 Neo2-FR booting error

    Hello all.
The problem I'm having is concerning a MSI P35 Neo2-FR.  For about the past year, this mainboard has been used in a Windows Home Server Setup.  Not to long ago, we had a power outage (Yes, should have been plugged up to a UPS, Mea Culpa).  When the power came back, (and I got home), it couldn't get it to boot.  It was doing the old MSI False boot routine that has become infamous. While checking the cables inside, I hit the CMOS reset button while the power was on.  Now, I'm not sure how completely screwed I am, but at this point I'm stalled as far as booting at the "initializing keyboard" status light indicator.  (Two red followed by a green, then another red, from top to bottom on the LED status light strip). It just hangs there forever. I can't get to a bios screen.
Is there anyway to salvage this?
Oh, and I have an Identical system (different videocard, but same MB, Ram and CPU that went through it, to no ill effects.)
Before it's asked, I have fiddled with the memory (swapped slots, used one stick etc), I have tried booting it with no RAM, no Keyboard, a PS2 Keyboard and a USB Keyboard.  All to no avail.

hoho resetting the BIOS while the system is still on is a big sin..I have done the same mistake as u are and to settle this..there's a thing called RMA,u might want to try that

  • MSI P35 Neo2 FR... DOA?

OKay, I just tried to set up this combo:
    E6550
    MSI P35 Neo2 FR
    MSI HD 3850
    2x2GB Teamgroup Elite CL5
    OCZ Stealthstream 600W
Unfortunately the system does nothing when I hit the power button. Only the standby LED is on, nothing else happens, not even the fans start spinning. The diagnostic LEDs dont light up either, simply nothing happens.
This is what I have already tried:
Different case, with different power button
    Tried different RAM
I tried the PSU in another system, works flawlessly
I checked all cables and connections, everything is installed properly
I set the FSB jumper to 333MHz
But in general, if any other component would be faulty, the mobo would at least beep or the diagnostic LEDs would show a problem. But in this case the system refuses to start.
What could be the problem here?

  • MSI P35 Neo2-FR - Will this work??

    Hi,
I am planning a new system, after my current one is a little dated. Here is an outline of what I am planning to build: -
    CPU - Intel Core2 Quad Q6600 2.4GHz SLACR G0
    M/B - MSI P35 Neo2-FR
    RAM - Ballistix DDR2 PC2-8500 5-5-5-15 Unbuffered NON-ECC (4x 1GB)
    G/C - INNO3D GeForce 7300GT 256MB DDR2 PCI-E
I am not needing it for gaming, but more for production work (Graphic design, Illustration and video editing).
I have a few questions if anyone can answer them for me?
Is the RAID facility on board a hardware RAID or software RAID. Since its provided by the Northbridge I am pressuming its software.
How many SATA ports can be used at any one time. For example, does using the 2x eSATA ports, reduce the amount of on board ports you can use? (Like some USB ports?).
If I wanted to use a SATA DVDRW connected to the southbridge SATA port, would I be able to boot from it?
I can see many people have had problems with installing Vista on this board, can anyone see any compatability issues with my proposed setup?
    Many thanks!!!
    Phil

Quote from: Hans Gruber on 28-November-07, 19:07:02
The only compatability issue would be with your 7300gt card. That's hardly enough power to run a game let alone graphics editing. You would be much better served with an 8800gt to perform video editing.
Hi Hans, the 7300 is the same card used in the Mac G5's used in my place of employment for graphic design / video editing. Although some have the 8800GT as well, this is the card used in the majority of the machines. I am sure it will be ok but you reassured one of my existing concerns. I can always upgrade this if it doesnt cut the grain!
    Thankyou!!!

    1. It's ICH9 RAID. It's southbridge, not northbridge. It's hardware RAID.
ICH9 provides a RAID facility is software RAID using Intel Matrix Storage Manager. The CPU processes the parity for RAID 5.

    2. you can max up the SATA ports. How many is on this board? 6 SATA ports? you can use them all.
There are 2x eSATA ports (I am pressuming from the ICH9), and 4x SATA on the ICH9, and 1x SATA on the 88SE6111. What I was trying to ask is do the 2x eSATA ports render 2 of the ICH9 ports unavailable?
Quote from: Maesus on 28-November-07, 19:33:33
2a. USB ports does NOT reduce the total amount of USB ports to use, where did you get that info or having that impression??
I worded this completely wrong. My bad..... I have had motherboards before where if you connect a usb back plane to the USB header on the main board, it simply stops you using some of the USB's on the rear panel. This is simply like a redirect to allow you to plug USB devices in to the front of your PC case instead of reaching around the back for it rather than allowing you to add additional ports. This is what I was trying to ask, If I am to use the 2x eSATA ports does that mean that it renders 2x of my onboard SATA ports obselete.

    Thankyou
Quote from: Maesus on 28-November-07, 19:33:33
    4. it's not really compatibility issue, but more of Vista's own issue, just that you need to do the right step to get Vista installed. Quad Core + 4GB, well, microsoft acknowledge the Vista installation issues with this config. You will need Vista 64-bit, but start installing with 1GB or 2GB. After completing installation, install microsoft quad core and 4GB patches, then only plug in the remaining 2GB.

  • Msi p35 neo2 fr problem

Alright, I have been using this board for quite sometime and today it gives me problem.
When i tried to boot up this morning, the board just keeps on restarting. This happened once b4 but the problem solved after I pressed on the reset button on the board.
whereas for today, after resetting, the board did stop restarting itself, but it hangs when the LED is at (red, red, green, red)from top to bottom. I refered to the user guide and it shows that there is a problem during memory detection.
    Can anyone pls help?
    This is what I have
    Mobo: MSI P35 Neo2-FR
    CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo E6750 2.66 1333mhz/4mb
    RAM: Kingston Hyperx 2x2GB DDR2-800
    Video Card: Nvidia Geforce 8500GT
    HDD: 1xHitachi Deskstar 1TB SATA 3.0gb/s, 1 Samsung 160GB(SATA), 1 Seagate IDE 80GB(IDE)
OS: Microsoft Windows Vista Ultimate SP2
PSU: AcBell 400W DC Output (There are a few of them.. didnt know which one.. the highest is 28Amps)

Okay.  About the memory issue:  I believe a BIOS Update to the latest version may fix the problem with your DDR2-800 modules.  BIOS v1.2, v1.3 and v1.4 had known problems with DDR2-800 modules. In case you decide to do that, please >>Use the MSI HQ Forum USB flasher<< and avoid MSI Live Update or any other Windows based flasher.
About the video card:  I is not necessarely defective.  Your PSU is not only a low-end poor quality device but also rather weak in the first place.  Try a stronger one with your original video card and see if that changes anything.

I have the MSI P35 Neo2-FR motherboard http://www.msi.com/index.php?func=proddesc&maincat_no=1&cat2_no=&cat3_no=&prod_no=1261 and trying to get the eternal ESATA to work.  It works with one individual HD.  I'm using an external ESATA drive with 3 HD inside the external case with one cable running into the external ESATA in the back of the motherboard.  It's only recognizing 1 drive and the other 2 isn't showing up.  If I switch it to USB connection it will read all 3 drives.  I'm running windows 7 x64 but it recognize on my other 2 computers with a different motherboard. I have install it with the ACHI setup in Bios and I've also install the Matrix Storage Controller after installation.  I never install the Intel ICH9R SATA RAID driver where you have to press the F6 to install it.  Is that what I'm missing and is taht needed for the ESATA to work?    I'm getting this message "A storage device was connected. If this device is a port multiplier, only port 0 of the port multiplier will be active." Been googling all day and still can't figure out what I'm missing.
Any help would greatly be appreciated.

IDE, RAID and AHCI are operating modes of the SATA Controller.  Everything okay here.

Seems to me it's either this board and it's driver don't let you use the port multiplier but it suppose to support port multiplier.
It is neither the board, nor is it the driver.  It is a limitation of the Intel ICH9R Chipset.  You will have the same problem on all P35/ICH9R based mainboards.  Read here:

  • Installing MSI P35 Neo2-FR

    Hello
I'm installing Q6600 on my MSI P35 Neo2-FR mainboard. In the user guide it says (2-3, 2-4):
    - "Make sure that you apply an even layer of thermal paste (or thermal tape) between the CPU and the heatsink to enhance heat dissipation"
    - "Remember to apply some thermal paste on it for better heat dispersion"
    - "Meanwhile, do not forget to apply some thermal paste on CPU before installing the heat sink/cooler fan for better heat dispersion."
I'm feeling less confident in installing my Q6600 now without this thermal paste, since it's explicitly *recommended* in the guide. What would happen if I did not apply the paste?

    Quote
What would happen if I did not apply the paste?
The heat the processor generates would not be properly dissipated to the heatsink.  In a worst case scenario your CPU could shutdown automatically because of overheating and/or be damaged.
Have a look at your heatsink itself.  Often thermal paste or some sort of thermal pad is pre-applied for easier installation.
If there is not such thing get some thermal paste before you install CPU+heatsink.

  • MSI P35 Neo2-Fr -- can't get onboard audio device to appear in XP

I've just installed XP sp3 onto my new mobo (MSI P35 Neo2-Fr).
Attached is Q6600 core2 quad processor, 2GB memory (DDR2), ATI HD4850 gfx card. I haven't changed the bios much at all or overclocked anything yet.
All seems fine *except* that I can't windows XP to see that there's an onboard audio device.
(It is enabled in the bios btw.) I've tried installing the high def audio driver on the CD from mobo box, and also downloaded the latest from the MSI site. I uninstall the driver and reboot before trying to reinstall it again btw.
The audio driver installer used to say there was a problem installing the driver, but it doesn't any more. After installing it and rebooting, XP control panel -> Audio devices says there are no audio devices.
Also, I notice that there should be an extra audio item in the XP control panel (according to mobo manual), but this hasn't appeared.
In XP's system hardware list there are no sound devices under Sound, but there are two unknown PCI devices (with yellow question marks next to them).
    Any suggestions?
