Have old WRT54G, switched from comcast to ATT, get good signal, no connection

Guys, I have a WRT54G that I used to use at my old house. Now Im at a new house with the same laptop it used to work with when I connected wirelessly. Now have ATT DSL with a motorola modem(used to have a comcast service/modem). Even when I connect the modem to the router to the computer it wont connect. It shows as connected but there is no world globe connection icon. If i connect modem to computer im fine. so it is the router. when I try wireless connection it shows strong signal but doesnt connect. since i cant connect via the router i cant download new firmware or change my router settings, can I? Im lost.

As you have changed your ISP from Cable to DSL, so you need to Re-configure all the settings back on your Router again. As Cable and DSL provide use different settings on their modem. So there is certain rules to configure your Router with the DSL Modem.
Connect your Modem to the Linksys Router on the Internet Port and then connect your Computer to the Linksy Router on LAN Port 1. Login go the Setup page of your Router using the Default IP of Linksys i.e : 192.168.1.1...
Once you login to the Router setup page, Below the setup tab you need to change the Local IP address to : 10.10.10.1 and click on Save Settings... Once the settings are saved... You need to Unplug the Power from the Router and Modem, wait for 30sec and then first plug the power to the Modem and wait till all the lights are solid on modem then you can plug the power to the Linksys Router...
Now check if you are able to go Online from your Hardwired computer.

  • Switching from Comcast - Need some Assistance

I have been a Comcast subscriber for many years now, but have heard that FiOS is supposed to be better. However, there are a few things that make me somewhat ambivalent about switching. First off, I've had Comcast for years, and have had a few issues with them, but not THAT many. So I don't know if it'd be worth it to change, since a new provider might not be as good. But also, I noticed that carriage of local channels is different on FiOS than it would be on cable, since I would assume it would be the same throughout the entire market. For instance, in the Boston area, some communities near the Rhode Island border receive Providence channels as well as Boston on cable, but not on FiOS. I've also heard that FiOS' On Demand selections are rather different. I know there's tons of movies on demand, but what about TV shows, and local events? I also saw a post here from someone who doesn't get local weather on their system. So I've heard that in a way, FiOS is more like satellite than it is like cable.
Anyway, I'm sure that many of you here who now have FiOS TV have switched from cable, and let me ask you this: Have any of you ever considered switching back? Why, or why not?

    fair question.
I switched from comcast to verizon at the end of last year.
my sole reason for switching was due to savings of $40/month.  To me, the quality, speed, and service appears to be the same (or hardly noticeable to make a significant difference).
the main advantage for switching to FIOS is money.  Some small advantages FIOS has over Comcast is some of their local networks on-demand content.  I believe that Comcast only provides CBS while Verizon offers ABC, NBC, and CBS (neither carry Fox on-demand).
the main disadvantage to me is that you do NOT need a set-top box to get all of the channels with comcast.  a simple splitter will suffice.  for FIOS, you need to rent the box for each tv or else you will not get a picture.  another disadvantage is that the free movies on Comcast are far more vast and far better than Verizon.  However, Verizon is aware of this and are slowly adding more content throughout this year.
As for customer serivce, it's hit or miss with both.  You'll read many horror stories and happy stories from both sides, so to me, that's almost a risk or expectation with any paid service.
that being said, FIOS has made considerable advancements in technology in their internet and cable service over the past few years while keeping the costs to the consumers down.  comcast, on the other hand, has not made any significant technological advances (at least none that I know of, although they do claim to double your internet speed every year, but so does everyone else).
thus, even though I must rent a box for each of my 6 tvs, I'm still saving $40/month, but we'll see what happens when the 1-year promotion ends this december.
You've got to be very careful if you don't know where you're going, because you might not get there. --Yogi Berra

  • Switching from comcast to mac mail

Hi I just received my first mac and am excited to use the Mail application, however I am switching from comcast mail and am wondering if there is a way to not only see my mail in my inbox, but also those in my folders. Is it possible to copy my comcast mail folders into mac mail?

No problem - and as the saying goes, there are no dumb questions.
A Google search is your friend. Performing a search with IMAP will provide more information that you probably care to know about the differences between IMAP and POP accounts but here are a couple of links with such a search.
    http://www.imap.org/
    http://www.macdevcenter.com/pub/a/mac/2002/05/21/imap.html
With a .Mac or IMAP account, received messages remain on the server until deleted. There is no setting to automatically remove messages from the server when downloaded/received as with a POP account and IMAP account server stored mailboxes with Mail or with any email client are synchronized with the server vs messages being downloaded only with a POP account.
With a .Mac or IMAP account, you can also store Drafts, Sent, Trash and Junk messages on the server with Mail and create additional server stored mailboxes to save messages by category on the server.
This is beneficial when accessing the account with an email client such as the Mail.app with multiple computers. Example - having a Desktop computer at the office and using a portable computer when traveling. Using the same account settings with Mail on both Macs, you can keep all server stored mailboxes/messages synchronized with Mail on both Macs so messages sent with the portable when away from the office will also be available with Mail on the Desktop.

  • Switching From Comcast Without Drilling

We currently receive internet and cable TV service from Comcast. Landline telephone is from Verizon. We are thinking of switching internet and TV to Verizon to take advantage of Triple Play pricing.
We rent our home and wish to maintain our good relationship with our landlord. To this end, we do not want to add services that require any kind of drilling, particularly drilling through walls.
Our home is wired for Comcast service (obviously) with co-axial connectors already in place that lead outside the building.
1- Can Verizon switch us to FIOS using only the existing cables, without additional drilling? (I realize that may be a difficult question to answer without seeing the exact wiring in our home.)
2- Would Verizon visit our home, have a look at the existing wiring, and advice us what additional work is needed, if any, to switch us to FIOS? What would be the charge for such a visit?
    Thanks for your help.

In general, yes (and no).  They can install FiOS equipment (a.k.a  ONT) on the exterior of the building and connect directly to existing exterior coax for both TV and Internet.  It's also likely that your existing telco wiring can be accommodated externally.  However in the typical install, Verizon supplies a battery backup device inside the building that requires a power outlet in the building, plus a wired connection between the backup unit and the ONT.  This necessarily means drilling a small hole through the building, pretty much a standard procedure that doesn't entail anything major besides a small drill hole and some sealant.  It's also possible the the backup device wiring could pass through the existing hole where the coax resides.

Probably not, although if you are willing to pay for a separate "truck roll" at the going rate (and it may be significant), then the answer changes to "perhaps."  The reason such visits are not common is that the techs are usually very experienced and have encountered most situations more than once.  However it will not hurt to speak with VZ prior to the install to eliminate subsequent conflicts and confusion.
There is an abundance of FiOS installation data on the Internet.  Here for starters is a useful link:

  • Switching from Comcast DNS servers solve my slow image loading on WiFi devices?

I have a Netgear C3700 N600 WiFi Cable Modem. I have two android devices that were being very laggy when I was connecting to my devices 5g connection when loading pictures. There was no packet loss and signal strength was high. The download tests show very high speeds. But anytime I went to Play Store, Facebook, or tried to surf the internet, pages or images would load in very slowly.
This was happening on both my Android Devices running Android 5.1 and 5.0.1 (Nexus 6 and Galaxy S4). My C3700 allows me to changes the DNS server from the one provided from the cable company (Comcast Xfinity). After setting my modem's DNS to Google DNS servers ( 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 ) my issues were resolved! Now I'm just trying to figure out why this is the case.    Related: http://forums.xfinity.com/t5/Home-Networking-Router-WiFi/Xfinity-Wireless-very-slow-on-mobile-devices-only/td-p/2197456

You may also want to download Namebench. It is a DNS server benchmarking program that will find the closest and fastest DNS server near you. Google's DNS are good but there are probably better and closer ones out there to you.

  • Cannot connect to some websites from Verizon (but ATT gets there just fine...)

So, for the past 24 hours I have repeatedly  tried to access a blog (ginandtacos.com) via my Verizon connection; Verizon returns an error message that they are unable to find the site.   They offer some alternatives from a Yahoo search that includes... the site I want.  I click their link, they report they can't find the site, and offer some alternatives from a Yahoo search... (rinse and repeat).
Switching to my ATT-provisioned phone, I can easily access the site, so it is not down.
    Any ideas?

    Answering my own question...
Not a Verizon issue.  The site owner asserts on Facebook that Network Solutions is holding the domain name hostage (and trying to blame ICANN).  Apparently the whole thing will be fixed just as soon as some additional marketing services are purchased, or so he says.
ATT shows the same failed DNS resolution now.  sigh.

  • Switch from Comcast back to AT&T - Now Fax is not working on my HP Officejet J5700 All-in-one

    To HP Support:
My home phone was with Comcast.  My fax was working fine.  I have since switched my home phone to AT&T and now my fax is not working.
Question - what do I need to do to get my fax to work like it did previously?
    Please advise and thank you.
    Greeneyes4U2

Try first contact AT&T, there might be something they need to do. Nowadays, phone companies provide very different services, on some lines, fax just don't work. Here is an HP support page with some info that might be helpful.http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c00302247&cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en

My guess would be that one that didn't work with comcast is connected to the fios ont in your house.
If you are doing a self install verizon would appear to believe that you are already wired.  Connect the router they give you to the the non comcast coax and see if it connects.

  • Have rented a movie from iTunes but keep getting an error message cannot load film

I have downloaded a rental movie to my iPad started to watch it and it gave me an error of cannot load film, have tried deleting the film from my videos but cannot do that either, when I go back I to iTunes to start the process again it immediately tries to play the film but the same message come up. Any ideas?

Sounds like you might need to take it to an Apple Store but if it is an iPhone 3G it would no longer be under warranty.
Looking at the Apple Store online you can get an iPhone 3GS from $49 on AT&T if it comes to having to get a new one. Your other option is second hand.

  • I have rented a movie from iTunes, but cannot get it to play

The film has downloaded, and on the picture of the film title, there is the word "play" with an arrow.  When I click on the word play, nothing happens.  I have iTunes 10.5, and iTunes has been happy as a clam, and I can listen to music and audio books...but I cannot play this film!
I appreciate any advice anyone can give!
    Thanks,
    Shirley

Should be under Library>Movies. Try searching for it in the Movie section.

  • Have a windows rip from DVD how to get in IMOVIE

Back when I only had windows I did some minor editing with with a windows program and acquired some files I use for the heck of it.
I have several files for the DTS,Dolby etc intro screens.
The thing is they are in MPEG/AC3 format and I tried just importing them into IMovie and it won't work.
Any suggestions. I just want to have these "clips" to throw in in front of movies every so often.
I know dork....if I do will it also be 5.1 surround?

You need to convert these clips into DV format.
Try MPEG Streamclip (free) with the Quicktime MPEG-2 plugin ($20).
VisualHub ($23) will probably work, too. They have a free trial that works with short clips.

  • When trying to connect to google+, I get a message that I need a new version of Firefox. I have the newest version (6). I can get gmail, but cannot connect to google+. Please help

I cannot connect to my new google+ account using Firefox 6. When I try to access google+ I get a message that I need to update Firefox, which I have done twice. I can access gmail and everything else that google has to offer - I think. Please help.
    Thank you

Open System Preferences > Network > Advanced > Proxies
Deselect any checked boxes on the left then click OK.
If none of those boxes were selected, it might be a Safari extension causing the proxy dialog.
From the Safari menu bar click Safari > Preferences then select the Extensions tab. Turn that OFF, quit and relaunch Safari to test.
If that helped, turn one extension on then quit and relaunch Safari to test until you find the incompatible extension then click uninstall.

  • Trying to sync from ipad but keep getting Itunes could not connect to the ipad **** because an invalid responce was recieved from the device"

The problem only started after resetting the Ipad. can download from itunes, but cannot sync, ie put new books in libary

    Hi LizzardAir,
Thanks for visiting Apple Support Communities.
It sounds like there may be a connection issue between your computer and iPad.
The support article iTunes: Specific update-and-restore error messages and advanced troubleshooting has some steps to try:
iTunes cannot connect to the [iPad] because an invalid response received from the device
This error occurs when there are problems communicating through USB. This may be resolved by following the steps for errors 13 or 14.
    Error 13, 14, 35 and 50 (or -50)
These errors are typically resolved by performing one or more of the steps listed below:
    1. Perform USB isolation troubleshooting, including trying a different USB port directly on the computer. See the advanced steps below for USB troubleshooting.
    2. Put a USB 2.0 hub between the device and the computer.
    3. Try a different USB 30-pin dock-connector cable.
    4. Eliminate third-party security software conflicts.
    5. There may be third-party software installed that modifies your default packet size in Windows by inserting one or more TcpWindowSize entries into your registry. Your default packet size being set incorrectly can cause this error. Contact the manufacturer of the software that installed the packet-size modification for assistance. Or, follow this article by Microsoft: How to reset Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) to reset the packet size back to the default for Windows.
    6. Connect your computer directly to your Internet source, bypassing any routers, hubs, or switches. You may need to restart your computer and modem to get online.
    7. Try to restore from another known-good computer and network.
    Best,
    -Jeremy
