Have scanner with mini din port. convert to usb?

hate to toss old visioneer paperport B & W with mini din port.   Could probably be used with my macbook with a usb port.  guess there is no converter.  have searched online.

Is it a PaperPort Vx from approx. 1996? That model could be used over a serial connection (or SCSI, if a special SCSI adapter was added).
Even if it were possible to connect the scanner to a modern computer (for example, via a USB-to-serial adapter), I guess that compatible scanner software would be hard to find (two drivers for earlier Mac systems can be found through http://support.visioneer.com/products/Sheetfed/downloads.asp).
Do you still have an older Macintosh computer? If so, one could perhaps scan documents there, and then use a network to transfer files to a modern Mac (exact method depending on the type of computers involved). If not, you may even want to buy an old Macintosh computer just for the purpose (to be used as a "converter"). The minimum requirements appear to have been a 68020 processor Mac with System 7.

  • Is it possible to add a Mini Display Port converter to my MBP's thunderbolt to add a display ?

I use MBP (late 2011). I find the hunderbolt port to be similar to the mini-display port of older mac. I wish to have another display, but not ready to spend $999 over a thunderbolt display from mac. So would like to know if a Mini-diaplay port converter from apple would help me connect a exernal display via the thunderbolt port? Thanks .
    Koushik

    Koushik,
Did you check all of the display adapters Apple carries to see if there is one to fit your needs?  There are also third-party adapters on the market that may do that conversion.

    Hi Gilly,
I have no proof, but I think it will not work with an adapter, only Mini Display Port or Thunderbolt.

  • How to connect an older MacBook Pro with mini VGA port to HDMI?

I have an older MacBook Pro with a female mini VGA port.  I would like to watch movies which have been downloaded to my laptop on my flat screen TV.  Newer MacBook Pros have a mini DisplayPort for which Belkin makes a cable to use; however, I have not been successful in finding either an adapter or converter to use with my older laptop.
FYI.  Am currently using Leopard but am upgrading to Snow Leopard.

I believe you naeed the Apple ADC to DVI adapter.

  • How can I connect an ADC to an iMac G4 with mini-VGA port?

I have an Apple Studio Display monitor that I want to connect to my iMac G4 that has a mini-VGA port. I have the ADC to DVI adapter, but cannot find any adapters that go from DVI to mini-VGA. Please help!
I "inherited" these devices for work from a different university. They originally used the extra monitor with a PowerBook G4 that has a DVI port. But I would rather use it with the iMac - is it at all possible???
    Thanks!
    iMac PowerPC G4   Mac OS X (10.4.5)   1.0 GHz 768MB DDR SDRAM

    Hi,Welcome to Apple Discussions.
Depending on the age of the iMac G4 depends on what outputs are possible:
700/800MHz - Mini VGA port to VGA port
1.0/1.25GHz - Mini VGA port to VGA port or Mini VGA to S-Video/Composite.
I'm not sure if the first revision of 1.0GHz iMac (Early 2003) fell in to the first category or the latter one.
regardless... these adpators are available at theApple Store online for $19/£15. From there you'd need to find a VGA - DVI convertor and then the DVI to ADC convertor. Googling for such adaptors brings up several results.

  • 30'' Cinema Display with mini-display-port to dual link DVI adapter usb hub

Hi all, I don't know if any one of you experience this issue and can help me.
I am using an unibody macbook pro (late2008 model) to connect to a 30'' cinema display via the famous $100 mini diaplay port to dual link DVI adapter. I have connected the usb cable from the ACD to the adapter and the usb cable of the adapter to my macbook pro. This setting works fine under OSX 10.5.7.
When I am using Windows Vista under bootcamp the USB hub on the back of the ACD doesn't work. The device manager of Vista shows an excalmatory mark besides the device "Generic usb hub"; and it reports a problem of "the device cannot be started".
I doubted this problem is due to Windows cannot recognise the $100 adapter as a "generic usb hub"; and apple has not release a driver for this $100 adapter for windows.
Since my MBP only has 2 usb ports and the $100 adapter already occupied one, it would be very much helpful if the usb hub of the ACD can work just like in OSX. Can anyone think of any suggestion?
Much appreciated for reading this post and thank you.

i don't have an answer for you, but i feel your pain. very frustrating when this happens with Apple products and Vista/Bootcamp. wish they were more compatible, for it would make things so much easier for the consumer.

  • Connecting Cinema Display with mini display port to macbook pro with thunderbolt port

I am trying to connect a 27" cinema display (2010) that has a mini display port cable out of the back, into my macbook pro (2013) with thunderbolt ports.  The mini display port cord fits into the thunderbolt port on the Macbook Pro, however the macbook pro does not detect the cinema display and the cinema display does not have any picture on the screen.  The USB plugs in fine and sound comes out, and I have the adapter for the magsafe to magsafe 2 and that works fine, it just the actual display.  Any help would be appreciated!
    Thanks!

    Hello mmholt,
    Welcome to Apple Support Communities.
It sounds like there’s no video on an Apple Cinema Display that’s connected to your MacBook Pro, and you’re wondering if the configuration is supported. It is supported, take a look at the article linked below for more information.
Thunderbolt ports and displays: Frequently asked questions (FAQ) - Apple Support
    1. Can I connect a Mini DisplayPort monitor or monitor using a Mini DisplayPort adapter to a Thunderbolt port on my Thunderbolt-equipped Mac?
Yes. A Mini DisplayPort display or a display connecting with a Mini DisplayPort to VGA, DVI, or HDMI adapter will work just like it was connecting to a Mini DisplayPort connector when plugging in directly to the Thunderbolt connector on your Apple computer. Click here for more information on Mini DisplayPort connections and adapters.
Also, this article provides a lot of great information and troubleshooting tips that will resolve most issues related to video external displays.

  • Anyone else having trouble connecting MBP with thunderbolt port (TBp) and 27"iMac with mini display port (MDp)

I have a 27" Imac.i7 with mini displayport and MBP13 i5 with thunderbolt port. Some time ago I tried to connect my old MBP with miniDP  to The 27"iMac I Failed so did the apple centre they refunded cable costs and said I'd be contacted by Cupertino. That was 9 months ago, now replaced MBP with 13 inch(**** I can use my iMac as display!). Does not work phoned Fast Lane very helpful guy called JIM emailed me some software/firmware update links.  Still no display linking. One of the links was for a couple of updates for a TBp equiped 27" iMac mine is only MDp equiped. Failing to find any MDp updates in apple support.  Anyone have any Ideas!  My lad has a later 27"i5 he uses Xbox 360 no problem on his but it wont look at my MBP.
Beginning to feel like some of the kit that went with a fully loaded 5500 worked eventually. Computer and FM radio, Photography kit fine, video capture audio capture forget it.  Too many crashes and resets made it impractical.

  • Wi-Fi Sharing doesn't work together with mini Display port

    Hello everyone!
I can tell you fantstic problem. Sorry for my English - i'm from Russia!
    The problem:
    1. Share Wi-Fi via bonjour to other devices such as iPad, iPhone, windows computers, etc. I'm using Mac os X Snow Leopard! Everything is fine!
    2. Just only I plugging hdmi/dvi adapter - INTERNET STOPS TO WORK!!!
It looks like fantastic. If just I plugging-off remote monitor! Internet works fine! If only turn on! - It doesn't work!
    Can You only believe???
When you plug remote monitor or plasma TV via mini display port - Wi-Fi sharing is not working!!!
I try to solwe this problem about 1 year - and found this forum. Nobody on internet ask this question!!!
How can I solw this problem????
My assumptions that minidisplay port and bonjour for wi-fi sharing using the same port and mini dispay have more priority!!!
But it strange - why nobody in internet ask this question!
Thanks! I'm waiting for you answer!

Yes, I actually checked that it was 7.1.2  Not sure when they released it, but I had been trying to get this to work all last night.
But I did try something new...I had set restrictions for my son in Settings.  If I turn "off" all restrictions, the app will load properly and bring me to Netflix sign in.
Do you know what Restiction settings would prevent Netflix from loading?  I naturally want to lock down the iPad so that my son can not surf explicit websites or install, delete, and in-app purchase.  I did add Netflix to approved list though.
    Thanks.

  • How can I use my ADC apple cinema display on my iMac 2006 with mini display port?

I got this new screen on eBay for £20 and its an old ADC display and to my annoyance I found there isn't a way to hook it up to my iMac with a mini dvi port . So I was wondering if there is a work around that the community has come up with or if its just best to sell it ( bearing in mind that the next best screen from apple that I know will work is around £80 on eBay)
    Thanks, Jonny

You would need a DVI to ADC adapter, image below, search Ebay to find one in your area.

  • Mac Pro with Mini Display Port

Hi all, I want to add a second display to my Mac Pro. I use it for music production and having a second screen to tweak plugins, monitor the mixer. etc. would be very helpfil.
IS there any kind soul who's recommend 1) a good display (for looking for a huge one) and advise as to the right connections (mini-DVI to VGA adaptor, or whatever_ and anything else I may need? Thanks.

I used a 30" Dell called the 3008WFP for a while and was pretty happy with it.
    http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/products/Monitors/productdetail.aspx?c=us&l=e n&s=dhs&cs=19&sku=223-4890
One nice thing about it is it can be driven directly from a Mini DisplayPort output without need of an adapter of any kind using a cable like this:
    http://www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?cid=102&cp_id=10246&cs_id=1024606&pid=6008&seq=1&format=2
My only complaint about the Dell was that the out-of-box color presets were terrible. But I was able to fiddle with it and bring it more in line with my expectations. Perhaps color isn't too important to you given your application.

  • Problems with Mini Display port to VGA Adapter (A1307)

This has never worked, at the moment of truth, when we plug in, in front of client. SOmetimes their tech guys fiddle with display settings etc, but to no joy. So, a) should it just work straight way with no changes to settings etc and b) how do I know it is even properly functioning? Is there any troubleshooting I can do at home (without a projector!), or a sequence of things I need to do when I plug in to projector? Any help is gratefully received! Or do i just throw myself on the mercy of the guys at the apple store? Thanks

  • I have a Rocketfish mini display port to VGA adaptor cord for a macbook pro, it was working fine the first week, now it does not show what I am seeing on my laptop on my lg Flat screen tv. It only shows the space background but not any icons. Any help??

Is there anything I should do to the TV or any settings i should do from my actual Macbook? It only shows the space background but not any of my icons or what i am seeing on my laptop screen. It is a new adaptor which was purchased last week.

It seems as though though it may be a connection issue, possibly hardware or adapter. Make certain the connections are TIGHT.
For software you may try a smc reset:
    Shut down the computer.
Plug in the MagSafe power adapter to a power source, connecting it to the Mac if its not already connected.
On the built-in keyboard, press the (left side) Shift-Control-Option keys and the power button at the same time.
Release all the keys and the power button at the same time.
Press the power button to turn on the computer.
Note: The LED on the MagSafe power adapter may change states or temporarily turn off when you reset the SMC.
    Try a pram reset:
    Shut down your Mac.
Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Option, Command (⌘), P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
    Turn on your Mac.
Immediately press and hold the Option-Command-P-R keys. You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears. Continue holding the keys down until your Mac restarts, and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
    Release the keys.
If no joy you can take it in to an Apple store genius bar for a free evaluation make an appointment first.
