Have some quick questions

So I have a few questions, been searching online and cannot find answers:
1.) Do emails count against the 1 GB limit or do they have another limit?
2.) Can you add on the alacarte items i.e. more users, storage, emails,  etc to any plan or just the webcommerce plan?
3.) Does anyone have an example of a fully customised forum using business catalyst? I see the standard one and know you can customize but I want to see what is capable. links?
Thanks,
Jason

Hey JasonAlanV,
1. Each individual email account has a 5gb mailbox storage limit. This is separate to your site's disk space.
2. You can extras to any site. The Partner User will have to do this through the Partner Portal. Additional information can be found in our FAQ located here under "What extras can I add to a site?": http://www.adobe.com/au/products/business-catalyst/faq.edu.html
3. I'll leave this point open to the community for their examples. However, I recommend you refer to our Showcase located here: http://www.businesscatalyst.com/showcase

  • Some quick questions before I purchase LE8..

    Hi all,
    I'm a longtime mac user and I just got into music production. I plan on mainly making Hip Hop beats and also record me playing bass on sampled tracks. I have already purchased an audio interface( PreSonus Firebox 6x10) and some monitors (KRK RP5's). I'm going to be purchasing LE8 and a MIDI keyboard soon, as well as a turntable for sampling vinyl sometime this week.
    I got some quick questions though. If I'm loading samples off vinyl into the ESX24 sampler in LE8, what program can I use within LE8 to cut the desired parts of the sample? Then assign them to my MIDI keyboard or Akai MPD24.
    I plan on hooking everything up to my 2.16ghz w/2MB Macbook and was wondering if it could withstand Logic. Also, will I need to update any drivers for the firebox? I remember reading problems about it working with Logic.
    Any help would greatly be appreciated. If any Hip Hop heads here have any tips/ suggestions, lemme know!
    Thanks,
    JC

    I'm not a big expert on audio recording, but other than the video card (which would not be a big factor for audio) you can't really upgrade it to much further than what you specified. You could increase the internal storage, but I've always been inclined to keep most of my personal files (things I am not actively working on now) on an external drive, and keep the OS, applications, and my current ongoing work on the internal drive, along with plenty of free space. I think that improves performance. If you did get the larger internal storage option, you might consider partitioning it into two volumes. You could keep your OS, apps, ongoing work, and that free space on one volume, and use the other volume for the long-term storage of your user files. Or maybe for your audio work, it is better to have a separate volume that is a dedicated +scratch space+, so if you had the larger internal drive, you can use that space more flexibly.
    One other consideration is the CPU speed. There is really very little difference between 2.93 GHz and 3.06 GHz. It's about 4%, but in the real world, the performance difference is probably even less. So you could trade the $150 for the slightly faster speed and get the extra internal storage for $100, saving you $50.
    Also, the online store has a page for clearance and refurbs (Special Deals). For example, this one is currently listed
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/FB419LL/A?mco=MjE0NDk5Mw
    It is the current gen iMac model. Note: Many of the items on the Special Deals section are previous generation Mac models (so keep that in mind if you look at other listings). My current iMac is a refurb. In my experience, the one Mac and two iPods I have purchased as refurbs have looked new. They just come in a plain brown box instead of the fancy retail packaging. The warranty is the same as new.

  • Some quick questions before purchase of MBP

    Hey Guys/Gals,
    I've been a PC user all my life, but will now be making a permanent switch to Macs. I've been wanting to buy a MBP since they have been released, but have been hesitant (like many others I think...) about the issues of whine, extreme heat, warped screens etc...
    With the recent updates of the logic board and even battery, I think I'm ready to go for it. I just had some quick questions before I place my order:
    1. I could order my MBP from the computer store at my university. Do you guys think that will get me the newest possible MBP or will they maybe get me one that they have had in stock for ages? I really don't want to get stuck with an outdated logic board and/or battery. Is it safest just to order directly from the site?
    2. Although the issue with really hot MBPs seems to have gotten better, I am still quite shocked that people say that temperatures well above 70 Celsius are "within spec". I understand that Apple officially states this and that the Intel chip can handle up to 100 Celsius, but this seems crazy to me Basically, I want to ask if I am correct in my observations that the new Intel chips don't get much hotter than other chips around, but rather Apple has chosen to set the temperature mark that sets off the fans pretty hight (around the 70s if I remember correctly?)
    I would assume that in following their "mission" of creating beautifully designed computers, Apple also wants to have a really silent one. Now I'm all for a quiet machine, but I feel as though if fans were on either (a) all the time or (b) when the CPU reaches the high 50s lots of people would be happier.
    Anyway, it's just a thought. I noticed there are lots of experts around here, so I'm just interested to hear what you guys think about this approach that Apple seems to have taken. I don't think the heat will stop me from getting this amazing notebook, but it certainly is a little frustrating.
    Any responses are greatly appreciated.

    No matter where you take possession there's no assurance of when the machine was manufactured. There is really just as good a chance of getting a perfectly good computer regardless of place of purchase. If there is a problem it's covered under warranty. You can have the computer replaced within the first two weeks. Afterwards they will replace or repair. Without Applecare's extended warranty the computer is warranted for one year after purchase.

    You are wrong in your assumption. The Core Duo's maximum temperature is 125C before shutdown. Normal operating temperatures according to Intel's own documentation is 50-70C under average load. MBPs under heavy load will typically reach core temperatures over 80C. Then there's the added heat from the hard drive and GPU. The aluminum case acts as a partial heat radiator hence the case temperatures can get high. The MBP User Guide specifically states this and issues a warning about using the computer on one's lap.

    In fact the fans in the MBP are very quiet at least mine are. Unless you are in the hardware design business with intimate knowledge of using Core Duo chips in portable computers, then your observations, although certainly your opinion, are not based on anything factual.

    More likely there are a lot of people around here who think they are experts. As the remark goes, "An 'expert' derives from ex, meaning 'has been', and spert, meaning 'drip under pressure.'"
    You'll read lots of opinions on these forums. Don't take for granted that everything you read is factual or truth. A lot of the opinions expressed are without any basis in fact.

  • Some quick questions about Zen Microph

    Hello,
    I just received my Zen 8GB Microphoto today after recently purchasing it and I love it so far, but I have a couple questions.
    . The pdf manual that came with the installation disc makes it clear that you shouldn't jog with the Zen Micro since continuous shocks aren't good for it. This is a bit of a shock (no pun intended) for me since I planned to use this quite a bit while running, and I know that micro-dri've MP3 players are susceptible to shock which results in skipping, but this seems a bit extreme. Is this statement just "extra-precautionary" so Creative can say to you, "I told you so" just in case it breaks, or has anyone actually have one of these things break pretty quickly from jogging with it's
    2. This might be a stupid question but according again to the pdf manual you have to be using the supplied headphones to scan for radio stations as well as recording radio stations while listening to them, but nothing was mentioned about simply listening to FM radio. Will I be able to use the FM radio feature without using the headphones that came with my Zen Photo. I'd test but I haven't had a lot of time to mess with it yet and it's still charging, but I would really hate to have to not use my Shure E3cs in order to be able to use the FM radio.

  • Pixel VS DPI - Need to have a quick question cleared up!

    Hello Adobe Forums!
    I would consider myself an experienced designer, but I have a question that might seem rather mundane. To be completely honest, I just think I have overthought/overanalyzed it to a point where I confused myself!
    In Photoshop, I have a 300 DPI psd image, that image size is 2"x1" and is 600x300px.
    Now, my question is: is there a way to reduce the DPI in an effort to increase the pixels?
    My goal is to have a larger amount of pixels at 72dpi for a web image. The theory makes sense in my head, but when put into practice, my image loses its quality. I need it to be sharp.
    Aside from all of this, if I do have to end up resampling, are there other programs that resample more effectively than Photoshop?
    Thanks in advance!

    Exactly. Web images have no PPI, only the pixel dimensions. Your image is 600px x 300px; ignore the 300 PPI, ignore the 2" x 1". Focus only on the 600px x 300px. When you use this image in a web layout, it will take up exactly 600px x 300px. Whether or not that size works for what you're trying to do is up to you, it is what it is. But the image is not 72 PPI or 300 PPI or any other PPI, since you're not printing it.
    In fact, even images destined for print don't have a specific PPI until you set the size at which they will be printed. Photoshop provides the PPI of the image based on a particular output size for convenience, but the only true measure of the resolution of a digital image are the pixel dimensions, period.
    Here's a short article I wrote for our customers w/ digital cameras, to explain digital resolution and print resolution:
    WHAT IS RESOLUTION?
    The resolution of a digital image is the number of pixels it  contains, plain and simple. If you open an image into Photoshop and go  to Image > Image Size, the top section of the dialog box shows you  the total number of pixels in your image. This is the actual resolution  of the image, independent of the size you plan to use it.
    For example, a photo taken with a Canon Digital Rebel XSi might have a  resolution of 4272 x 2848. This means there are 4272 pixels across, and  2848 pixels down, that make up the image.
    Most digital cameras are rated as a certain number of "megapixels." A  megapixel is one million pixels, and camera manufactures calculate the  megapixels by multiplying the maximum width by the maximum height that  their camera can capture. In the example above, the Digital Rebel XSi is  a 12 megapixel camera (4272 times 2848 = 12,166,656 pixels).
    HOW  BIG IS A PIXEL?
    A pixel has no size of its own, it is simply the smallest single  "unit" in a digital image. In fact, the word pixel derives from the term  "picture element." If you zoom in close enough in Photoshop you can see  all the individual pixels that make up an image. (In Photoshop CS4  there is also a pixel grid that you can enable to make it easier to  see.)
    SO  WHAT ABOUT PPI?
    You've probably heard a lot about pixels per inch (PPI) or dots per inch (DPI), but what does that actually mean?
    Pixels per inch is a relative measurement of resolution, that takes into account the size you're going to print the image. Now there's a  mouthful! Don't let that confuse you, though, it's actually really simple to calculate: take the total number of pixels and divide by the size you plan to use it.
    So for example, if you take that 4272 x 2848 image I mentioned  earlier and print it 10 inches wide, the resolution would be 427.2 PPI  (4272 divided by 10).
    For optimum print quality, we look for 300 PPI at print size, and a  similar calculation will tell you how big you can print your images.  Using that same image, take 4272 and divide by 300. The result is 14.24,  so you can print that image as large as 14.24" without the image  looking low-res or pixellated, or without doing any resampling in  Photoshop.
    Oh, and the proper unit of measurement for the resolution of a digital  image at a particular print size is PPI. The proper unit of measurement of the resolution of  an output device is DPI. The two are not synonymous nor  interchangeable -- images never contain dots, only pixels, and printers never print with pixels, only dots.
    OK,  SO YOU'RE SAYING RESOLUTION AND PPI ARE NOT THE SAME THING?
    Right. They're related, but not the same. The easy way to think about  this is that PPI is the "print resolution" of the image.
    Let's look at another example: say you have an image that is 1500  pixels x 1500 pixels, and you print it at 5" wide. 1500 divided by 5 is  300 PPI. If you print the same image at 10" wide, 1500 divided by 10 is  150 PPI. The print resolution has changed because you're using the image  at a much larger size, but the actual resolution of the image (1500 x  1500) has not changed.
    CAN'T  I JUST INCREASE THE RESOLUTION IN PHOTOSHOP?
    You can, but it's not the same as if the image had the correct  resolution to start with.
    If you ask Photoshop to increase the resolution of an image, it needs  to calculate how to add all those new pixels you're asking for. It uses  some pretty complex algorithms to do this, but it's still "inventing"  pixels that were never there. There is a limit to how much you can  artificially increase the resolution of an image without it being  visible (either as blurriness or jaggedness). And don't forget: a  low-resolution original doesn't contain as much detail as a high-res  image. Photoshop can only interpolate from the data that exists in the  file, so it won't magically add in all that missing detail.
    A good rule of thumb is if your image would be less than 225 PPI or  so at the size you want to use it, you would be better off retaking the  photo than upsampling in Photoshop. Anything less than that and it will  almost certainly appear low-res when printed, and you would see  artifacts if you upsample it.

  • Before I buy an RV220W, I have some preliminary questions...

    I'm in the process of moving and relocating services from Provider-A (DSL) to Provider-B (Cable). The new location isn't serviced by Provider-A (or any other DSL provider in the area), so I'm left with the only Cable Internet provider in the area. It's a much more costly option, and leaves me with less functionality, but unfortunately, it's all there is.
    My DSL provider has given me a router that provides firewall, router, filter, etc. capabilities, and this allows me to secure machines on the LAN side, as well as pinhole those machines through the router to expose them to the outside world, via a static IP block I've leased from them.
    When I move to cable, I'll lose the router and firewall, and be left with a 'dumb' cable modem device, capable of... well, not much.
    So I need to toss my unmanaged switches, and buy a firewall, router and managed switch. Herein lies the questions.
    First, here's my thoughts, given the current infrastructure at my location:
    The RV220W has 4 LAN ports on the back, and a WAN port, so I'm thinking that the configuration would look like this:
    {{Internet}} => Cable modem (configured with WAN IP from provider) => RV220W => GS724T-300 managed switch => [LAN hosts]
    In this configuration, the LAN side of the cable modem will plug into the back of the RV220W (LAN1), and then the RV220W will feed the switch (LAN2), which all internal LAN hosts would then be physically cabled to.
    On the LAN side, I have an ESX server with a few dozen VMs on it, some wireless equipment (printer, laptops, etc.) and a few wired devices (microcell, NAS storage device and similar).
    The LAN devices are on 192.168.x.x and 10.0.x.x, and are all working great. The current router pinholes from its public static address (completely separate range from my leased static block) to hosts on the ESX side.
    Can I configure the RV220W to permit incoming traffic on various (custom, named) ports to pinhole their way into the hosts on the ESX side? Some of these hosts will have internal 192.x or 10.x addresses, while others will be mapped to Internet-accessible static IP addresses.
    How many hosts can I run behind the RV220W, before it "runs out" of either configuration values (max # of port mappings?) or before it runs out of bandwidth to service those hosts behind it?
    What else do I need to consider here, so I can keep some hosts on the LAN side protected, and other hosts exposed on a service-by-service or port-by-port basis?
    I'm confident this is the right configuration, I just wanted to be sure before I go making an expensive mistake with new kit.
    Thanks in advance!

    Dear David,
    Thank you for reaching the Small Business Support Community.
    The RV220W features Port Address Translation (PAT), Network Address Port Translation (NAPT), NAT traversal, one-to-one NAT.  I could not find any documentation with the maximum number of NAT entries allowed therefore I suggest you to contact the Small Business Support directly;
    https://supportforums.cisco.com/community/netpro/small-business/sbcountrysupport
    Just in case below I include the RV220W admin guide in case you would like to know how to go about PAT or NAT settings among all router capabilities and features configurations;
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/routers/csbr/rv220w/administration/guide/rv220w_admin_v1.0.1.0.pdf
    Please do not hesitate to reach me back if there is anything I may assist you with in the meantime. Thank you for your time and patience.

  • New to Editing and Have Some Important Questions

    Greetings All,
    I would consider myself a new editor - only because I feel I have so much to learn. Currently I edit for a local television show that broadcast on a cable network - I have been using makeshift solutions to get the job done - but would like to move into being a total professional.
    Currently I have - Final Cut Studio 2 (will be upgrading to the new release in approx. 2 weeks) - 8 Core Mac Pro (upgraded video card & and extra ram)
    - 23 inch Display (will purchase an additional 30" HD Display in approx. 2 weeks) -Mac Book Pro
    -Adobe After Effects
    I know that I need some sort of deck that can be used to put the tapes in and log and capture into final cut pro - (currently I rec. the footage on dvd and use MPEG to import the footage into Final Cut) - any recommendations on the type of deck I should get - something affordable that is universal that can be used with many types of tapes. Also I have been told that I may need a broadcast monitor - I've also been told that if I get the 30" HD display that I won't need a broadcast monitor- thoughts on this please? As a side not I have a 32 inch 720p flat screen Samsung television could this be used as a monitor? I've heard some discussion about Konika video capture card - after researching I'm still not sure I understand exactly what it's purpose is? Please help - is this something that I will need? What am I missing in my workflow? Any suggestions or advice would be appreciated - thanks

    only because I feel I have so much to learn<</div>
    Including where to post. This here's the LiveType forum.
    You don't need one deck, you need a deck specific to every kind of tape you have to use. You probably only need a DVCAM deck. If you need Beta you already know that. If you don't know that, you need to start with a basic video production class at a college or high school. That's not a service we provide here in these forums.
    The 30" Apple Cinema is way more screen than you need for FCP. Save your money and just get another 23".
    Konica does not make capture cards. You may be thinking of Kona, easily researched.
    You may or may not need a broadcast monitor. What you need is the firm knowledge and experience to make that decision on your own.
    My suggestion is to look up a video expert in your market area and prepare your management to pay them for their expertise as a consultant. Your post indicates you have way too much to learn. You can do it in books and in many hours of online research but you're going to spend more time and money doing that than you would simply by hiring someone to do the easy parts for you.

  • Travel-some quick questions

    I have read all of the discussions regarding the invertors and getting power on a plane....and the airline I'm flying with (Malev) I doubt they will even have powered seats so I'm just going to purchase an extra battery and occupy my tiIme with books, sleep and magazines.
    Questions:
    Is Apple the only place I can purchase an extra battery from?
    Are the power plug adapters for the UK the same for Budapest, Hungary?
    Will I be able to charge my MBP in the airport...do they usually have plugs..more specifically Hungary?
    When taking the MBP through airport security....does it go through the conveyor or will that wreck it? Whats the procedure for security?
    Thats it for now..if I remember more I'll post them. Thank you!!

    Questions:
    Is Apple the only place I can purchase an extra
    battery from?
    Probably not. There are after-market battery suppliers. You can look it up.
    Are the power plug adapters for the UK the same for
    Budapest, Hungary?
    If you mean the power adapter for the MBP, yes. If you mean the plug configuration, no. UK is different from continental Europe.
    Will I be able to charge my MBP in the airport...do
    they usually have plugs..more specifically Hungary?
    Most airports have electricity. Accessibility varies.
    When taking the MBP through airport security....does
    it go through the conveyor or will that wreck it?
    Do you mean the x-ray machine? They don't wreck computers. Sometimes, though, people lose them or they get stolen in the "security" area.
    Whats the procedure for security?
    In the US, you have to segregate a laptop computer from your other articles. Overseas, procedures vary. It helps to be co-operative.
    Thats it for now..if I remember more I'll post them.
    Thank you!!

  • Just installed 10.4 and have some installation questions

    I just installed 10.4 and immediately updated it to 10.4.11. Unfortunately, when I installed 10.4, I had to do it as an Erase and Install, because of some issues that were keeping me from being able to Archive and Install. Anyway, I'm in the process of reinstalling all my software. I'll also need to re-create the Classic environment; I've never done this before, because when I first got this G4 it already had both OS 9 & 10 on it. I'd sure appreciate any tips anybody can give me as to what steps to go through to make the process as smooth as possible, and what else, if anything, besides running Repair Permissions I should do before/after/between installations. Any information that anyone can provide will be gratefully appreciated!

    Hi-
    You can install OS 9 after OS X has been installed, though the method varies depending on the OS 9 version that you have. If you have a retail version of OS 9:
    -Start up from the CD, and open the Installer.
    -Click the Options button in the Installer to access the clean installation option.
    -Select the checkbox for clean installation.
    -Install the software.
    If your computer came with Mac OS 9.2.2 and Mac OS X 10.2 or 10.3, and a non-bootable Software Restore CD which includes Mac OS 9.2.2, do this:
    -Open Software Restore, and select to restore only Mac OS 9.
    -Open Classic preferences and verify that System Folder (the one that was just installed) is selected for the Classic environment.
    More information is available in this document.
    As everything is "new", you shouldn't need to worry about permissions.

  • I have some general questions about Java

    Is there a such thing as a list of every Exception in Java?
    Is there somewhere I can look at examples of try statements, catch statements I guess tutorials on the basics of Java, like what would constitute these statements.

    Thanks so much. This helps with the questions that I have. I am taking a class, where the only input I'm getting is "feedback". I'm expected to read the chapter, do the assignments, mind you this is the first time I have ever seen Java. Most of the class dropped out and now I see why.
    I asked the questions I did, because I didn't know "what" I understood the books explanation of the try statement pertaining to it's example, but I have nothing to apply "across the board" when it comes to try statements. The links you gave me were great, I now know how to tailor my questions. I will use the example in the link you gave me and try to equate it to my assignment. (This is a perfect example!)
    readFile {
        try {
            open the file;
            determine its size;
            allocate that much memory;
            read the file into memory;
            close the file;
        } catch (fileOpenFailed) {
           doSomething;
        } catch (sizeDeterminationFailed) {
            doSomething;
        } catch (memoryAllocationFailed) {
            doSomething;
        } catch (readFailed) {
            doSomething;
        } catch (fileCloseFailed) {
            doSomething;
    }I know that hitting enter more than once, entering a non integer (7.4), or entering a character "w" will cause a NumberFormatException. I am to enclose the methods in the try statement. Does that mean that I start with try {, then the section of code?  Then I need a statement or code?  This is where I am confused.  I look at the example above and those are actual statements.  Will it come a time when after "try" i will need code?
    What would be my statement? Is this something that I make up? ( I know these questions are dumming it down ALOT but once I get why something is done, I'll get it everytime.) My try statement has to say something to the effect that if the user trys to enter a non-integer value....am I right so far???
    try
    //Calling the user-defined methods
    multiplier = getNumber();
    correct = takeQuiz(multiplier);
    System.out.println("\t\tYou got "+correct+ " correct!" );
    user inputs any invalid, non-integer
    catch (NumberFormatException e)
    }

  • Some quick question for solution manager in 2 system landscape

    First of all is there any way to not implement Solution manager but to still be able to patch the system.?
    i really need it only for this.
    If there is no way to avoid the solution manager, tell me is the saprouter the only way for connection to SAP for the patches download. I don't need anything else for now.
    IS there a way to use a direct connection to SAP,?
    do the sAP router has to have 2 NICs where one is the public and one the private IP?
    i need to solve this one quickly so any help would be appreciated
    Thank you in advance!

    Hi,
    you do not need Solution Manager to patch the systems but you need Solution Manager to approve download basket for downloading pacthes.
    Information regarding the connection to SAP can be found at:
    Note 35010 - Service connections: Composite note (overview)´
    Hope this helps.
