Have storage optimised with Photo Library but need more space - How do I delete photos just off my MacBook Pro and not from other devices and icloud

I moved a 40GB file off my MacBook Pro to make room so that I could enable the iCloud Photo Library. I optimised the storage but during this process it used 10GB of space and so I cant now put back the file I took off my mac. I though that once I had optimised the storage I would gain space not loose it!. So i'm wondering how can I delete photos off my MacBook and not off all my devices and so I can get this 40 GB file back on ??

Hi, that's how it works. photos in Photo Stream are these ones that actually exist on your Camera Roll. Photo Stream is an iClous service that helps you to share photos. Just think about Dropbox or any other cloud services, isn't it that you delete a file on your computer, then found the file no longer exist on your other devices?
If you want to keep the photos while making them occupy less space, I suggest you try SafeEraser's Photo Compressor feature. It compress the photos and make it easy for you to keep them on your iPhone without losing much quality.

I have iWork 09 with a family license. I am unable to install the software on my new Macbook Pro (the message is simply "Installation failed"). I wonder if I need to remove an old computer from the family license, and if so, how?
Yes, gladly. I am trying to install on a 13" MacBook Pro with OS X 10.8.3. I insert the disk into the SuperDrive. The I work '09 window pops up with two icons: one Tim install and one that says "Read before you install iWork." I double-click on the "Install iWork '09" icon, and a window appears that says, "This package will run a program to determine if the software can be installed." I click "continue" and see "Welcome to the iWork '09 installer." I click on "Continue." The "read me" bullet on the left lights up, and I see "Read before you install. . . ." I click "Continue," then see the software license agreement. When I click on "Continue" again, I am asked to agree, and I do. The window then says, "Standard Install on 'Mackintosh HD" and indicates how much space the program will take.
I click "Install," enter my password, and the installation begins. It goes through a validating phase and begins "writing files." It indicates that installation will take about 30 minutes (although that number fluctuates). After about four minutes it goes to "cleaning up." Then after just a few seconds, the "Summary" bullet on the left lights up and this message appears: "There were errors with the installation. You may want to try installing again." There is a large yellow triangle with an exclamation point in it, and a bold "The installation failed." Below that appears "The installer encountered an error that caused the installation to fail. Contact the software manufacturer for assistance."
At that point, a "Close" button is pulsating blue at the bottom of the window.

I see how I can store the latter -- but not the former. And I don't care whether it's to the cloud or to a hard drive, etc.
Thanks!If you are using iCloud, you don't need to back up these items because they are synced with your iCloud account.

I'm still struggling with being able to sync ipad3 and iphone 4s to itunes after upgrading software to ios 6. I've gone through all the recommendations by Apple and suggestions from other forums and nothing seems to work. Help!!!!!
Sounds like you have a battry issue but don't want to believe it.
If a car was running fine on one tank of gas, then you filled it up with another tank of gas and it began to run funny, one might suspect that tank of gas. But let's just say coincidence blew a valve-- would you think the new tank of gas was the culprit?
BUT WAIT!! It just might have been! The gas could have been of higher octane and put more more strain on the valves; you know, like going from 87 octane (OS6) to 93 octane (OS7) and showing you the engine was on the edge of compromise.
Sometimes you have to go with common sense. If everything else is ruled out, it must be the battery. And if it runs fine one moment in OS6 but immediately ***** in OS7, I'd believe my battery was suspect-- though comfy-- in OS6 but the OS7 showed its true power.
Moreover, if you had the answer-- or didn't want to believe someone's more competent advice-- why did you even call? You've already shown that you don't know much when you asked if you could go backwards after setting up the new OS as a new phone.
Additonally, if you're such the know-it-all, but yourself the $29 battery and put it in yourself. It's a piece of cake.

I am a windows user that has converted to Mac and loving it but when I updated to Lion my wireless internet dongle would not work anymore and the Macbook Pro does not recognise the device at all so I am unable to reinstall it again. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

MacBook Pro, late 2011 version. Up to date Mountain Lion.
My email account in the Mail.app is set up as IMAP, but when I delete emails in the Mac Mail App, they are not deleted from the mail clients of the other devices that are connected to the mail server with IMAP. IMAP works perfectly between Windows Outlook 2010, iPad Mail App and Android default mail client. Deleted messages behave correctly, as in delete from one device and the mail is deleted from all devices.
Having just tested in reverse order on the Mac; emails deleted from the email client on Windows, iPad and Android are not deleted in the Mac Mail App. It appears that the account is behaving like POP rather than IMAP.
Any advice on how to have IMAP work correctly on the MacBook Pro Mail.app?

the email account in question was set up in Outlook as POP - stupid, stupid, stupid me, wasted an afternoon on this! I have now changed the Outlook account to IMAP and Mail.app works perfectly - and looks much nicer than Outlook did. Im in the middle of converting from Windows to a Mac, and still finding my way around the Mac
The lesson learned, never assume - always double check! All my other email addresses with 1and1 are all imap, except this one, and it happened to be the first one I set up in the Mail.app. (bows head in disgrace!)

Is there a way to delete the photos in Photo Stream on my mackbook pro notebook?
My phone became corrupted today and, after continuing to have problems with 2 new phones, the apple specialists determined that the only possible explanation was the presence of a corrupted photo or video in photo stream; and that the only way to use my phone without it shutting down was to deactivate the photo stream on it. It worked, but I would like to be able to have the option of using photostream again. The apple folks suggested that I delete all photos from photo stream on my computer; and then, when it is "empty", reactivate it on my phone? I think iphone 4 deals with mail account in an impressive way unlike the macbook pro. Because my yahoo mail account had been synced completely with all its emails and folders on the iphone 4.
BUT with Macbook pro, nothing happened even it told me that please make sure of your password. N.B. I know my password....
My question is can I have all my emails synced in my new macbook pro with all its folders. ?

Ahmad.Thanks, You know..... it happened with me once before when I first use the windows live mail client.... I contacted yahoo staff and they replied with the same as you replied......( I thought that there is way to do what I wanted )...
By the way they advised me, if I wanted to get my folders .... I have to MOVE messages from specific folder to INBOX then SYNC imail then CREATE folder in imail with the same name as in my yahoo and so on !!!!
OK, if there are ways to sync the WINDOWS LIVE MAIL accounts and its folders, it will be great..... Does anyone know HOW TO ? -
How do I delete Flash cookies on my MacBook Pro with Mavericks OS X?
Hi there! Since switching over to the Mavericks OS X, my husband noticed that I had over 3000 cookies stored in my laptop. After deleting cookies in eash browser, we noticed they are still there. After some googling, I suspect that it is Flash cookies that are installed in my computer. How do I delete these? On a couple of websites, that appears to have outdated information, they recommended downloading the Flush app. I noticed it is no longer available.
Anyone care to help?System Preferences > Flash and you can delete all info there manually, or set it to not accept information.
What I use is the free Firefox web browser + Ghostery and Click&Clean.
Ghostery has a option to delete Flash and Silverlight cookies upon exit (if enabled in preferences)
Click&Clean wipes everything when the browser is closed.
Firefox also has click to play, so Flash and other plugins are not running on every site, rather one has to click to enable it when they want as to prevent those from running and placing/retriving cookies in the first place. Better security also.
And there is more than just Flash cookies, there are web bugs, mouse trackers, history sniffers, HTML and Ever Cookies, plus all sorts of webside exploits.
Only by enabling Javascript/scripts only on sites you trust can you avoid a lot of this nonsense, the only easy method is to use Firefox and the NoScript add-on, which you drag a "temp allow all" button to the toolbar in Firefox to click on sites you trust.
