Have the keyboard commands changed?

Many OSs ago, my most used keyboard shortcut Option, Shift W to close all open windows just disappeared. Now I find lesser used ones have gone too: Cmd, Opt Shift Eject (shut down) and Cmd Ctrl Eject (restart) no longer work. When I look at "keyboard shortcuts" in Sys Preferences, I see most of the shortcuts that used to be there have gone. About the only thing that still works and hasn't changed are screen shot commands. So what has happened? Are keyboard commands now out?

Robert,
I don't know if this will help you, but if you look to the menubar in each app it will show you the majority of keyboard shortcuts you can use in that app. Also it will change dynamically and show you the new keyboard combinations and their commands when you press and hold down a modifier key on your keyboard. Such as Shift or Command.

To Close all Windows you use the keyboard combination: ( Option ) ( Command ) ( W )

My Macbook doesn't have an eject button so I can't test those keyboard shortcuts.

The only function key that does anything on my Mac is F5 which seem to have replaced a mouse movement for accessing the rarely used widgets.
I would double check in System Preferences that you have your function keys configured how you would like. I don't like to have to hold down the ( fn ) key so I have mine unchecked.

I'm sure we've all had to reset the PRAM at some stage - now I can't even remember the four-key combination we used
The Keyboard Shortcut to Reset the PRAM are: ( Option ) ( Command ) ( P ) ( R )
more on that here: OS X Mavericks: Reset your computer’s PRAM

I have the same problem with opening a folder in a new window - sometimes the Cmd Opt O thing works, but mostly it doesn't.
To Open a Folder in a New Window you use ( Control ) ( Command ) ( O )
Hope that helps,
Weston

My midi set up is fairly extensive, and what I've done is keep an up to date diagram of all my midi interfaces and device connections. I use this as the desktop background on my studio mac, and just hit F11 when I need to reference something. Simple but effective.

I would ask in the ExportPDF forum, Adobe ExportPDF (read only) (assuming that's the service to which you have subscribed). This is the Reader one.

  • Need to have the keyboard and mouse 100 feet away from Mac

I need to have the Keyboard and Mouse/Track-pad 100 feet away from Mac Mini.
    What are my options ?
    Thanks

In your case with the need to control it from multiple locations the best and realistically only solution is to use Screen Sharing to remotely control the Mac.
With this solution you can control it from anywhere you have a network connection and could use a laptop to control the Mac mini. This is the solution I use in a very similar situation.
Bluetooth does not have enough range, even RF wireless keyboard and mice devices also would not have the range, and I don't believe there is a suitable USB solution.
The only other possibility that occurs to me is to use an IP based KVM. A KVM (Keyboard/Video/Mouse) switch box allows multiple computers to be controlled from typically a single keyboard and mouse. However there are versions which allows you to do this over a TCP/IP network i.e. Ethernet. Then again you would be able to do this anywhere on your network. Here is one example - http://www.aten-usa.com/products/productItem.php?model_no=CN8600
Personally I still strongly recommend using Screen Sharing. Its built-in and completely free!

also go into your keyboard options and make sure the settings are correct there.

You can change the currency in your account, so that all subsequent transactions will be made in the new currency. Your Skype Credit will also be displayed in the new currency. To change the currency: Sign in to your account Towards the bottom of the page, under Settings and extras, next to Currency click Change: Select a new currency from the drop-down list and click Save settings. Skype uses an exchange rate similar to most major credit cards and may involve a small fee. You can see the exchange rate for each currency in the dropdown list. We recommend that you only change your currency when your balance is at or near zero, to avoid incurring any charges.

  • I need to find the keyboard command for "PrintScreen"

I'm using a MacBook Pro with Mac OS X Version 10.7.5.
Processor 2.4 GHz intel core 2 Duo.
I'm just looking for the keyboard command for the "PrintScreen" function.
    Any help?

    Thanks, Niel,
The only way that I could print all the columns on the page was to use the printscreen function. Regular printing cut off a crucial portion of the information.
If you know of any way to bring the print screen to full size - mine would only print in a compressed version - I'd love to know that as well.
Your answer, however, was very helpful.
    Thanks,
    Michael

  • How can I get the keyboard commands to do what they are spozed to do?

Some keyboard commands work OK. But some do unexpected things. For example, when I press the F11 key in InDesign, the page parts like a curtain opening leaving the empty desktop; the same key toggles the page back again. What the F11 key should do is open the Paragraph Style palette. Strangely, the "single-digit" commands -- F5, F6, etc. work OK. But those with 2 digits -- F11, F12 -- do not. (This is a G5 iMac with the original keyboard.) How can I fix this?
    iMac G5 Mac OS X (10.4)

That's Apple's Exposé at work. To change the keys for that, go into System Preferences, then Dashbord & Exposé (top row, second in). You can change the keys, disable it, or assign corners of the screen to do it.
Conversely, you could go into InDesign -> Edit -> Keyboard Shortcuts and change the Paragraph style pallete (gotta dig for that) command to Command f-keys.
I'd actually do the second one, as easy access to Exposé just rules - once you get used to it, it will be second nature. It's especially helpful when you have a pile of Photoshop and InDesign windows open, and need to find one particular one, or need to see something on the desktop.

  • Can we have the Curser Focus change automatically?

    I have an iMac.
The software I use are common software like Page, for a word processor, and Numbers, for a spread sheet.
In Numbers, when I hover over a cell, the cursor changes to allow me to select the cell. When I hover over a text box the cursor changes to a selection tool allowing me to reshape or move the box. At this point if I single tap, the cursor changes to a text tool, at a double tap, I get the entire word selected. The cursor unselects quickly. And the box remains in the poison where it was located after the text edit in the box.
In Muse I find that I can get the cursor to change but it requires many taps, and I have to select from the top menu. Sometimes the selection tool does not un select the text box which causes it to move. When the text tool is selected, because it does not unselect, as I move the cursor over the screen, the text tool is selecting all text below the cursor. Not fun.
This cause me to constantly use cmd+Z to undo the move. If the selection tool unattached itself quicker, and the text box was a little more "sticky" that would save a ton of work and re-work.
Here is an example scenario; When hovering over a target, change to the target tool, one tap, change to the selection tool, and another tap, if a text box is there, change to a text tool. All of these thing without anything under the moving accidentally.

I've got a MacBook Air open and connected to a 27" external screen (dual dvi via lightning port).  The keyboard on the Air is my main keyboard.  When I accidentally hit the power button the following happens:
    Both screens immediately go black.
    Exernal screen reactivates.
I can move my cursor for about 2 seconds, maybe Cmd+Tab.
Everything freezes up.  At this point, the MacBook Air keyboard is still lit and the Apple logo on the back of the Air is still lit. Keyboard and mouse input don't do anything.
Closing the Air, or disconnecting all devices from the Air and waiting don't seem to do anything.
Only solution is a hard reboot (holding down power for 5 seconds).
All of that for missing the Delete key by about 3mm.

  • Don`t have swipe keyboard and changing colors of keyboard

how can i fix my problem?

None of the languages seem to work at this point, they just change the name on the enter button. With keyboard space at a premium having a language change button on the main board seems quite silly. IMO it should be put in options/language. And on a side note I would really like to see the apostrophe on the main board... I find myself not using conjunctives just so I do not have to go to the symbol screen.
I really hope the feb update fixes some of this, I know the keyboard has been updated
