Have to click twice to do anything

I have a macbook pro running OS X and I have to click twice to get it to recognise a single click.

One possibility to consider is third party software, including - but by no means limited to - mouse software.
Does this annoying behavior persist for a different user, e.g., Guest?
Does this annoying behavior persist when starting up in Safe Mode?

  • Why do some have to click twice on floating audio control to start sound?

    We are finding that for some users, a floating audio control within acrobat reader has to be clicked twice to start the audio.  When the audio button "Play Audio" is clicked, the floating audio control is opened and the play button is activated but the sound does not start on some machines.  The pause button is available to click, indicating the play button has been activated.  No sound occurs, and the progress indicator does not move.  However, if I click the pause button and THEN click the play button, the sound starts and the progress indicator begins to move.  So far Adobe support has not been able to answer this issue.  Has anyone else seen this happen?  Problem seems to happen on about half the computers we have tried it on.  Thanks in advance for any ideas and/or solutions.

    Same thing - have to click twice even though default settings.

  • Firefox 4 constantly can't find Server. Have to click twice on everything.

    I just downgraded from version 4 back to 3 because version 4 would constantly go to Server not found when going from web page to web page. On social networks like facebook, Playing Zynga games I have to click twice on everything for it to take hold. Also going from page to page in a game on FB I'd get the connection timed out constantly.

    Yahoo and Gmail both support POP if you wish.
    All modern email systems are Imap (because it supports multiple and mobile devices)
    I do not recommend POP under any circumstances, it can not be synchronized so unless you do not use Mobile devices at all (iPhones etc) it is useless.
    Yahoo users (search this site) have endless problems and Gmail is highly non-standard. Expect a learning curve for that one.
    Are you short of server space, why do you need to do this rather retrograde step?

  • Have to click twice

    I have a Panasonic Toughbook 53 running Win 8.1 and Photoshop CS6. Since upgrading to 8.1 I frequently have to click twice before any given tool is active. So, if I press (v) to activate the move tool, my first click on the workspace is essentially a dead click, then the second click will move my image/layer/object. It happens frequently in Camera RAW as well. It's driving me nuts...any ideas?

    It's under "Change PC Settings" in the Windows 8 shell. Usually the best way to get there is swiping from the right on the touchpad.

  • When I minimize ff with several tabs I can maxamize the one I was on straight away but any other one I have to click twice, why?

    when I minimize my ff with several tabs it goes to my task bar with a number of shadows equal to the tabs I have opened if I mouse over it I get small previews of the tabs open and I can open the one I was on last straight away but if I click on any other I get a beep and then nothing so I have to do the same thing again before it will open to a different tab, why?

    Odd thing when ff is maximized and I go to the preview in the windows task bar I can click on any tab and it will open right away it's only when ff is minimized that I have to click twice. fyi I have tab previews checked and I have tried to unset it the reset it to see if that would help but no go.

  • Have to click twice for mouse to do anything

    Hello,
    Ok, so my problem is with my mouse, whether I am using the trackpad or a bluetooth logitech mouse. Whenever i click on anything, it could be an icon, a link in a browser, selecting a tab or closing it..., i have to click on these things twice. The first time I click them nothing happens, i have to click a second time for it to work.
    This has happened to me multiple times even after I did a restart, but i dont know what causes it because sometimes they work from the first click.
    I think i started experiencing this problem after the 10.6.7 update.
    Any help would be appreciated thanks.

    Same thing is happening to me. It is slowly driving me insane...

  • Why do I have to click twice?

    I'm trying to update the text in a JLabel by clicking a toolbar button. For some reason, I have to double-click or click twice to get it to update. The JLabel is currently part of a class (ClassB) that is constructed in my main application class (ClassA) and placed as a component of a split pane.
    If I strip everything out and just have a button and my ClassB in the contentpane of ClassA, it works fine.
    Can anyone give my an idea as to why this could be happening?
    //Method to update data (ClassB)
         public void updateData() {
         latValue.setText("Help me");
         latDisplay.repaint();
    Thanks

    Off hand I'd say there is a problem in the code you stripped out. Why don't you post some properly formatted code that demonstrates your problem and then maybe someone will be able to help you.

  • Why do I have to click twice?  How can I fix this?

    I am trying to switch to Mac. Easier said than done!
    Anyhow, my complaint is that you must click on a background window (i.e. one that does not have focus) simply to GIVE it focus. My click otherwise does nothing. This is annoying to no end for a long-time Windows user like myself. If I click on a background window, specifically because I want to click a button on that window, then clicking on that button, even while it is in the background, should trigger the button! Yes, it is just a second click once the window has focus to activate the button, but it gets worse!
    Take Firefox for example. Frequently, I will click on a tab to switch to that webpage. But often Firefox does not have focus, usually because I have an IM window off to the side that I have just been using. Often the fact that Firefox has lost focus is not obvious to me. So when I click on the Firefox tab, nothing obvious happens. So I click again to actually select the tab. I use an add-on in Firefox that allows me to close a tab by double-clicking it. I've worked this way for years and it works well for me. So when I click a tab, it does nothing, and then I click again, it actually 1.gives focus to Firefox, and then 2.interprets my second click as the end of a double-click action. It closes my tab! How annoying. Firefox doesn't get the first click, but it gets the second click in the form of a double click. I find that I am slowed down quite a bit by this sort of behavior, because even if I thought it was logical, there is no way to click twice in quick succession in order to mean 1.give the application focus, and 2.click on what's under the cursor, because it gets interpreted as a double click. I find myself purposefully waiting a few seconds after each click to make sure it's not interpreting everything as a double click. I really wish there were a preference to change this behavior. Can anyone help? Thanks...

    Hmmm! Well, you can close, minimize, or resize windows with a single click. Additonally, CMD-click on the title bar reveals its path. Otherwise, that's about it. For the most part, windows in the background are usually mostly covered, so accessing them requires getting their focus and making them the front-most. For switchers, I recommend:

  • FW CS4 - Why do I have to click twice?

    I've been working my way through the Adobe Classroom in a Book for FW CS4, and it keeps telling me to click once, after I start the import process, to place a graphic on what I'm working on. But if I click once, nothing happens. I need to click *twice* to get the graphic to be placed.
    Why is that? Is the book wrong?
    I'm on a Mac Pro, running Leopard 10.5.8.

    Hi there:
    Thanks for the question. On Windows it seems only a single click is needed for the import function to complete itself. On the Mac, it appears you need to click once to bring the canvas "back in focus" before the import can be completed.
    I'll be sure to to make Peachpit aware of the ommission and have it posted on the Updates page at the Peachpit site.

    I dont like the new toolbar any way to go back to the old one.
    When I click the back arrow I have to click it twice , what is wrong

    Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).
    * Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.
    * https://support.mozilla.com/kb/Safe+Mode
    If it does work in Safe-mode then disable all extensions and then try to find which is causing it by enabling one at a time until the problem reappears.
    * Use "Disable all add-ons" on the [[Safe mode]] start window to disable all extensions.
    * Close and restart Firefox after each change via "File > Exit" (Mac: "Firefox > Quit"; Linux: "File > Quit")

  • EVERYtime I click "send" or "get Mail", I have to click twice. The 1st time with "send" produces an error, the 1st time with "get mail", nothing happens.

    I have to select "send" or "get mail" twice in order for Thunderbird to do what I want. When I click the 1st time when sending, I ALWAYS get an authentication error. I click again and it sends the message without error. When I click "get mail" nothing happens. When I click it again, it checks & retrieves mail.

    That sounds like an anti virus issue.
    Restart the operating system in '''[http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Safe_mode safe mode with Networking]'''. This loads only the very basics needed to start your computer while enabling an Internet connection. • When activating adobe flash "this time", I have to click twice unnecessarily

    For security reasons, I have set the flash plugin to "ask every time" (or similar - I am using the German version).
    Now, after I have clicked to activate flash, I am asked a second question "Activate this time" or "Activate for good" .
    This alternative should be integrated in the first "question" - which should not ask "Activate flash", but ask "Activate flash this time only" or "Activate flash for good".

    If your version of Firefox works the same as mine, if you click a link in the page to activate a plugin, Firefox drops down a dialog from the plugin notification icon in the address bar. I think it was designed this way so users would learn to look for icon and use it to activate or block plugins. But like you, I don't always remember to do it that way.
    If you want to suggest that the in-page dialog be changed to have those choices, you can submit your suggestion on the feedback site (feature change suggestions tend to get buried here among the crashes and other support issues).
