Have To Enter Password Twice to Log In to Snow Leopard on my iMac

*Why Do I Have To Enter My Password Twice to Log In to Snow Leopard on my iMac?*
It just started happening a couple of weeks ago but I have no idea what I changed at that point.
There's a normal login screen where you can choose a user and enter a password. Then it goes to a completely blank screen for a few seconds and the same login scree reappears and I have to choose the user and enter the password again. Then it logs in.
What is going on? HOw do I fix it?
(please note that I do not want automatic login to one of the user accounts - I want to use this as a protection against access to my computer should someone steal it etc...)
Thanks

What do you mean a "more fuller update" from software update? Do you mean the updates I automatically get from apple software update are not actually the latest snow leopard updates? I'm very confused.
No that is not what I was saying. Read all about the Snow Leopard combo update for yourself - http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1324
they're generally pretty useless and typically solve most problems by saying to reinstall everything.
That has never been my experience with Apple Care the few times I have used it.
This may be a user forum, but I'm pretty confident there are Apple staff helping people out on here.
Not the case here. Hate to bust your confident bubble. These forums are strictly user to user.
"Apple staff" do chime in from time to time in the Feedback forum area if you are having problems with the discussion website. Never for technical issues. Read the Terms Of Use.

  • Safari 3.2.1 and hotmail, I have to enter password twice, every time

The title says it all, this has been going on for months. I go to the hotmail login page entering everything correctly but hotmail will say password incorrect enter the same details again & I'm in.
Emptying the cache makes no difference.
    Any ideas ?

    Hi
This may be an issue due to your Internet Provider or corrupt cookies.
Let's try the Cookies side first. Open Safari. Safari Preferences>Security>Show Cookies. enter live.com in the spotlight panel. Remove the hotmail cookies that appear.
Close the panel and try logging on to Hotmail.
If no go, first go to the Hotmail log-in screen, Next in the Develop Menu (if one doesn't appear in your Menu Bar, go to Safari Preferences>Advanced panel and activate it at the bottom of the panel) go to the User Agent and change it to Firefox. Now log-in to your account.
Another alternative I've seen for working around this problem is to signing out first on http://mymsn.com (create a bookmarks bar entry for easy access to that page), then go to the HotMail page and log-in.
Hot Mail has historically been a bit of a flake in the web mail domain. Many have switched to G-Mail. consider doing the same.

  • I have a Sirius subscription. Do I have to enter password each time I log in?

I have a Sirius subscription. Do I have to enter password each time I log in?

That would depend on the application you're using to access Sirius, I would presume. What application do you use?
If you're using just a web browser, I don't have a subscription to confirm but it does look like it would require the user name and password whenever you reconnect. Sirius support or a Sirius-releated forum might be able to provide additional information.

I had the same promblem using my ipad2, I thought i was going crazy, then I noticed once when I put my user name in and checked it was right, one time it dropped the last letter of my U/N as went to hit submit so i went back put the deleted "m" back into ".com", hit enter, put in my password multiple times, tripple checked, no joy. So I hit remote on my iphone4s did the same UN/PW and it worked first time! I had the same promblem with accessing YouTube - I know I was putting the right UN/PW in but it wouldn't let me in, then miraculously one time it did... could be a letter dropping bug...

I cloud will not accept my apple id and password on my laptop. I have changed the password twice trying to make it work. What to do now?

IF your imessage is saying waiting for activation then do this:
backup your phone to itunes or icloud.
then on your phone go to settings - general - reset - erase all contents and settings - this will wipe your phone clean.
once the process is done, you can restore from the backup you made, then you should be able to activate your imessage.

  • I have to enter urls twice

Whenever I enter a url on firefox mobile, I have to enter it twice before it actually takes me to the url.
I believe this is related, but whenever I click on links, I also have to click on them twice before firefox takes me to that url.
I'm not sure what other information I can provide.

yeah, I've done that multiple times.
In fact, the last version of firefox had that issue, and I thought "It's so obvious, surely it will be fixed by the next release!"
    But it wasn't....

    Hey there Sharon47.
Couple of things that I see when I read this.
1 - If you have tried to reset your password (and it says that mail has been sent) my guess is that your spam or junk folder may have it on Gmail? That's assuming your old email account (earthlink) is still forwarding to your new (Gmail) account.
2 - Make sure your Firefox versions are up to date on the devices.
    Also,
Here's a couple of support articles which may help you with syncing and

my Firefox i synchronized but i have to enter password for login again and again what should i do
what will happen if i click on reset sync in options ,will i lose my all data

Yes, you will lose all your data stored on the sync server if you reset the sync (recovery) key.
If you do not keep changes after a restart then see:
    *https://support.mozilla.org/kb/Preferences+are+not+saved
Is the password manager working properly?
You can find the sync password and the sync key in the password manager on the computer where you originally created that sync account (email).
*Tools > Options > Security: Passwords: "Saved Passwords" > "Show Passwords"
    Look for:
    * chrome://weave (Mozilla Services Password)
    * chrome://weave (Mozilla Services Encryption Passphrase)

Without knowing what you have tried please open System Preferences - Sharing - File Sharing and select File Sharing. If you still have trouble you can call AppleCare in the morning when they re-open. You have 90 days of telephone support if you haven't already bought AppleCare.

  • Do I have to reinstall Snow Leopard on an iMac that is currently running Mavericks that I wish to sell?

    Hello,
I am about to sell my late 2009 iMac 27". It came with Snow Leopard, but I recently upgraded to Mavericks.
I understand it is good practice to reinstall the OS which originally came with the machine, however I cannot boot from the grey installer disc that came with the machine. (It looks like it may be slightly marked).
I have erased the drive and come to the OSX Utilities screen, where I have the option of reinstalling Mavericks. I just wanted to know, if I leave it like this can a potential new owner use the machine? Can they enter their own Apple ID to continue with the installation?
I have trawled forums looking for an answer but just need someone to tell me if this possible.
    Many thanks in advance!

You need to install a legal copy of Snow Leopard or the version of OS X that was originally installed on the computer. See the following for the correct procedure. What you have already done is incorrect.
    Clean Install of Snow Leopard
         1. Boot the computer using the Snow Leopard Installer Disc or the Disc 1 that came
with your computer.  Insert the disc into the optical drive and restart the computer.
After the chime press and hold down the  "C" key.  Release the key when you see
a small spinning gear appear below the dark gray Apple logo.
         2. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue
button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu.
After DU loads select the hard drive entry from the left side list (mfgr.'s ID and drive
size.)  Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.  Set the number of
partitions to one (1) from the Partitions drop down menu, click on Options button
and select GUID, click on OK, then set the format type to MacOS Extended
(Journaled, if supported), then click on the Apply button.
         3. When the formatting has completed quit DU and return to the installer.  Proceed
with the OS X installation and follow the directions included with the installer.
         4. When the installation has completed your computer will Restart into the Setup
Assistant. Be sure you configure your initial admin account with the exact same
username and password that you used on your old drive. After you finish Setup
Assistant will complete the installation after which you will be running a fresh
install of OS X.  You can now begin the update process by opening Software
Update and installing all recommended updates to bring your installation current.
Download and install Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1.
At Step 3 you may want to re-Erase the volume using the Write Zeros security option. A single pass is sufficient to prevent any recovery of your private information from the drive.
Be sure to include all your original discs that came with the computer as well as the Snow Leopard DVD if you used the retail disc.

Try repairing permissions. My favorite way is with a utility called AppleJack. Info and download here. It's free. It only works when you boot in Single User Mode. When restarting or booting, hold down the Command key and S keys.
You will get a very different startup screen that looks like the Terminal app has hijacked the screen. Just let the lines of text scroll by. When that happens you will get a text entry prompt. Type in "AppleJack" without the quotation marks.
A DOS looking menu will appear. Choose 1 or d to run Disk Repair. If you get a message that Disk Repair found and corrected errors, run it again. Repeat until you get the "your disk appears to be ok" message. This rarely happens with my experience, though. This does the same thing as as booting from an external drive and running Disk Utility's repair. Only, no external drive is required!
Next, choose 2 or p to repair disk permissions. This will take a little while. AppleJack warns that it will take up to an half hour to run repair permissions. It'n never taken more than about ten minutes for my MacBook Pro.
As permissions are repaired, you will see each repair scroll on the screen. When done, the menu returns, choose q to quit. Then at the prompt, enter "exit" without the quotes. Your MacBook Pro should restart into Mac OS normally after this.
    Hope this helps.

  • Do I have to get a hard copy of Snow Leopard for my iMac if I already have it for my MacBook?

I have Leopard on my iMac, and Snow Leopard on my MacBook (both with all available updates)~I tried to use the Snow Leopard Install DVD from the MacBook to upgrade the iMac, but it said "Mac OS X 10.6 cannot be installed on this computer."  Why???  Do I have to get a hard copy of Snow Leopard for my iMac?  Are there different upgrades for the iMac vs. MacBook?
I think I understand that once I have both computers on Snow Leopard, the Lion upgrade would be ONE upgrade for BOTH computers {I'm guessing I would need the client version for at home use}.  Also, once Lion was on one computer, would I just go into the Mac App store on the other one and download the upgrade on the other one?  But no additional fee would be charged?  Lastly, I read about the combo option that includes all updates to Lion since it's release~would that be the main Lion upgrade on the Mac App or would I have to search for it?
    Thanks for your help!

The disc you used would have been the install disc that came with your Mac. These can only be used on that as they are made for that specific model.
Make sure your machine meets requirements
Macs with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Intel Core i3, Intel Core i5, Intel Core i7, or Xeon processor.)
    At least 2GB of RAM
Mac OS X 10.6.6 or later (Mac OS X 10.6.8 is recommended)
7 GB of free hard drive space is recommended
Once you've purchased it would be a good idea to create a bootable DVD or USB

I have a Mac Pro with four hard drives. I currently have Lion installed on one hard drive. I want to have the option to boot from either Lion or Snow Leopard. How can I do this?

It's best to install Snow Leopard on one of the three remain drives without an Operating System.
You can then install the applications you need from the original media. Create a User Account using Setup Assistant.
Do you want to migrate User Accounts from the OSX LIon boot drive, or are you keeping the User Accounts separate?
Dual-booting just requires holding the option key during startup and selecting either Lion or Snow Leopard.
