Have to force quit iTunes 98% of the time
It did not improve with iTunes 8.
Every time i go to the iTunes store (purchase or not) when I want to quit iTunes I get the beach ball and the fan kicks on until I force quit. Much of the time just listing to music the same thing occurs.
Tips?
I'm also having a similar problem with iTunes 8.0.1 on Leopard 10.5.5
It consistently freezes when I'm using the iTunes Store. I'm usually able to browse the store and if I find what I'm looking for and make the purchase I can quit iTunes normally, if I leave the store before it freezes. If I wait for iTunes to freeze I'm unable to force quit, access the terminal, taskbar or anything else. I have to force the power off and reboot in order to use the computer again once I experience the freeze.
I had the good fortune to have two identical iMacs and have the problem on both. I've done a clean install on both computers and continue to have the problem on both after clean installs. The problem appeared shortly after the release of iTunes 8.0 on the first computer. I almost miss my Windows Vista Ultimate computer (almost).

When my MyBook external drive (where I keep my music) is connected to my Mac, iTunes stops responding upon startup. I have to force quit iTunes, disconnect the iBook, restart iTunes and plug the iBook back in.

Is there an option that someone knows about that would keep this from happening?
no, if iTunes can't find its drive/folder, it defaults to creating one within your Home directory's Music folder.
If anyone knows a way I send a product suggestions to apple please let me know, as I have a few that would like to suggest.
under the iTunes menu choose the Feedback menuItem. -
Screen Saver doesn't allow SOURCE SELECTION but automatically begins to download unknown files. I have to force quit, but it does the same thing each time I try to select a source.

Why do I have to Force Quit iTunes so often?
On my old G3 iBook I remember I had to Force Quit iTunes (can't remember which ancient version that was) sometimes when it 'froze' after I clicked a new track title on a CD that was in the Drive.
In iTunes 6, this never ever ever ever ever ever happened. Never. Not once. Ever. I silently congratulated Apple on eliminating that annoying particular little glitch.
Now I've recently downloaded iTunes 7 - it's happening again !! Several times when I click to play a different track on a CD in the drive, I get "iTunes (not responding)" and I have to Force Quit. This is REALLY REALLY annoying. Why has this old fault returned?
(btw I just saw the thread below mine, about iTunes needing Force Quit after playing 2 tracks on a CD? This is NOT the same fault. iTunes will happily PLAY a whole CD without complaining - the problem occurs after I double-click to play a different track while another one is still playing.)FWIW, I have had a similar problem, where iTunes froze on random songs at two seconds into the song. I would have to force quit, then restart. This occurred when I put in a CD to play from the beginning, while I did other things. I have not witnessed your circumstances when clicking a new track to play. I do not do this often, except after I restarted iTunes to continue the CD.
I just deleted the com.apple.itunes.plist file in ~/Library/Preferences and so far, so good. -
I dl'd Firefox 4 on wide release Tuesday. It was working just fine on all news sites I use. Then, I tried to use my Netflix streaming. Netflix alerted me FF4 needed to run in 32-bit mode due to its movie player plug-in. I hit the Netflix restart in 32-bit button, FF4 crashed. I've since re-dl'd FF4 and loaded it into the Apps folder on my MacPro(Mac OS 1.6.7/2.66 Quad-core/2 GB RAM/256MB GPU). It still won't open and I have to "Force Quit". Several "Reports" have been sent to Apple but, I don't think Apple is the problem. As it now stands, I can only run last version of FF on my MacPro.
I also have a MacBook(Mac OS 10.6.7/2.16 C2D/1 GB RAM/64 MB GPU) and I am able to have 2 versions of FF on that Mac. I even have the newest version labeled as Firefox4, so as to distinguish between the 2 for the purpose of using FF4 for everything but Netflix. So, what happened? What's the difference? Why won't FF4 run on my MacPro anymore? If this were just a Netflix problem, why can I access Netflix through Internet Explorer and not through Firefox? I've been using Firefox to access Netflix for at least the past year and starting yesterday (12/6/11) Firefox doesn't seem to recognize that Netflix exists. I've tried the suggested Firefox "help" which was of no help whatsoever and may even have made life more difficult in accessing other accounts. Anyone know how to contact Netflix or Firefox by phone?

This is a recurring but not constant problem I encounter while running Firefox 4.0 on my MacBook OSX10.6.7. The Menu bar across the very top of the screen will be visible, but none of the menus will work if I click on them (File, Edit, View, History, etc.) I have to force-quit Firefox and restart it to get it to work again.
Also, my pinned tabs have disappeared, for no apparent reason. And to be honest, this version is way slower and buggier than my old Firefox, and it's driving me nuts.Hello DRAnderson100, try to delete the [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Localstore.rdf localstore.rdf] in [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Firefox profile folder] and check it again.

Hi,
I just updated iTunes to 11.2.1, as well as the most recent Lion (? at work, can't look up which OS or version) update for my MacBook. Now iTunes will open, but it will not sync with my phone (I have an iPhone 4, A1332), and won't iTunes won't close without a force quit.
My phone does sync to iPhoto, which leads me to believe it's a problem with the new iTunes.
I've seen quite a few posts close to this, but they have iTunes crashing rather than opening and not syncing.
Is there a fix for this, or a new version coming out soon?
How can I downgrade to a working iTunes? I didn't have time machine set up, is there another way to revert?
ThanksSync now working. In Outlook, selected View, Current View, Events. Then View, Current View, Customize Current View, then Fields, all appointment fields, and moved reminder into the view. Then clicked every event that had a reminder, set the reminder to none, and eventually returned to the Day Week Month view. Next sync, all events synced both ways.
Success. !! -
My MacBook Pro 15in mid 2010 4gb 1067, 2.4gighertz i5, os 10.9.5 has locked up the calendar screen displays "The server responded with an error" and will not let me exit the msg or the screen I can use the rest of the computer. I have turned of the computer, force quit and other things. I tried to send a Calendar by email
I tried your suggestion but it did not work (hold shift down when re-launching calendar). Here is the message I keep getting. Help - this endless loop prohibits me from accessing any calendar functions.
The server responded with error.

I have downloaded the new version of Itunes, but it did not help.

Itunes, have to force quit, will not work since update
After the itunes and quicktime updates, itunes no longer works. After about 10 seconds after launching itunes, it tries to process and then you have to force quit itunes.
any thoughts or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Regards
Jimbrookesuk,
Thanks for asking...
A Quick primer
On Macs, the Macintosh HD (or whatever you have renamed it to) icon is on the desktop, right?
So if you open this, you see a Library folder, it is also referred to as /Library
(with the "/" indicating root level, i.e. Macintosh HD)
If you go to your Home folder, it has a Library folder too. It is referred to as ~/Library. (With the "~/" indicating user level)
Now, these steps (taken from KB 25398, section B3), summarize this well:
1. Go to ~/Library
2. Drag the Caches folder to the desktop.
3. Attempt to reproduce the issue.
4. If issue is resolved, drag the Caches folder to the Trash.
5. If issue persists, go to /Library.
6. Drag the Caches folder to the desktop.
7. Attempt to reproduce the issue.
8. If issue is resolved, drag the Caches folder to the Trash
Hope this helps,
Generik

Have to force quit applications
I'm finding that I'll be working and have 4-5 programs up at a time (Outlook, itunes, Safari, Photoshop & Illustrator) and I'm constantly watching my Activity Monitor because I don't want files to freeze (spinny rainbow wheel). Even then I end up having to force quit a lot of the time. Why can't I work on multiple programs at once.
Also, I'll be in a program and go to open a file and won't be able to see all my folders. Any suggestions? One way to test is to Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, Test for action in Safe Mode, (do those APPs Quit OK?)...
PS. Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.
Reboot, test again.
If it only does it in Regular Boot and not in Safe Mode, then it is likely some 3rd party add-on, Check System Preferences>Accounts>Login Items window to see if it or something relevant is listed.
Also see what is in System Preferences>Other Row.
Also look in these if they exist, some are invisible...

When I open pages, it immediately hangs up and I have to force quit.
When I open pages from the dock, the page comes up on my screen but immediately hangs up with the little revolving circle. I have to force quit finally to get the page to go off my screen. This is sporodic. Sometimes it works and sometime it does not.
The Problem Report which I had was: "Pages quit unexpectedly while using the SFWordProcessing plugin".
I'm using iWork '09 in OSX Lion 10.7.4
Here are all the things I tried:
Deleting preference files
Deleting iWork Pages caches
Restoring preferences from yesterday's version in Time Machine
Finding the SFWordProcessing plugin in HD/Library/Application Support/iWork '09/Frameworks
Restoring the SFWordProcessing plugin from yesterday's version in Time Machine
Using Disk Utility to repair permissions (none needed)
Using Disk Utility to verify the HD (no problems found)
Scanning the HD for malware with ClamXav (none found)
Showing package contents of Pages and restoring items from yesterday's versions in Time Machine
Opening Pages (successfully) from another user account
The problem occurred after trying to open (convert) a 125-page MSWord document. Pages appeared to hang but was just slow. After opening the file Pages did hang. I right-clicked on the Pages icon in the dock and, seeing 'Application not responding' selected 'Force Quit. Thereafter I had the problem with Pages hanging on opening. I then moved the MSWord document to another location while I discussed with the trusted colleague who'd e-mailed it to me what to do with it.
Eventually, after trying all of the approaches above (mostly suggestions from Apple Community help pages) I somehow stumbled upon what was causing the problem and how to clear it...
In Finder pull down on the 'Go' menu
Select 'Go to Folder'
Type in ~/Library/ which takes you to your user Library (a hidden folder)
In my user Library I found a folder called 'Autosave Information'
Delete anything in this folder associated with iWork Pages

Audio error message on playback and P Pro CS6 won't stop playback. Have to force quit.
Hello: I'm getting an audio error message on playback and P Pro CS6 won't stop playback. Have to force quit.
Earlier in the project, I would crash when moving audio up/down tracks or up/down time line.
Any thoughts?
Thanks,
Tolbert
Mac/12 core/32G ramThat screenshot will help us figure out what's going wrong, but I won't have any news until at least July 8 because our offices are shut down next week. In the meantime, two suggestions:
Download CC and see if this crash occurs in the new version.
Google cpp-99 premiere pro audio prefetch. I got several hits, but not dig into them to see if any had a solution or workaround. -
ITunes jams all the time.
Whenever I open iTunes it will jam ie. the colourful spinning circle stays there and I have to 'force quit' iTunes. It happens all the time and I can't even play a simple song now. What should I do? I have the latest updates and everything that is required.
Sorry, but I, for one, cannot read this post.
If no one responds (more positively) to you, can I suggest that you re-type your post, using the default size font, and making use of paragraphs?
You may feel that I'm being unresasonable, but I really cannot wade through such a long, rambling and in-my-face post.
A little less of the off-topic dig at Apple might help too.
I did note the last thing you said: Thanks for any suggestions and advice on what to do. That's what I'm doing. Maybe someone else won't have my difficulties...
