Have to have mobileMe to sync Mac Mail?

Just got iPhone 4.  Do majority of my business through email.  Can I sync my Mac Mail, (mail on desktop), with my iPhone without mobileMe?  My Mac Mail is comprised of 3 different mail accounts pulling from 2 different servers.  I want to be able to sync my desktop & iPhone and be able to see all of my MAILBOXES from my Mac Mail on my iPhone.  Hope that made sense... Thanks!

Mail does not sync at all.
The iphone has a mail client just like you computer.
You set up the same three accounts on the iphone, just as you did with Mac Mail.

  • I have a problem with MAC Mail and Mediacom

I have a problem using mac mail with Mediacom. I can recieve messages, but i cannot send messages. Of course the support people at Mediacom can't seem to help me. i have searched threads here and tried some of the things but have had no luck. Please help.

I had the same problem with a relatives macbook on mediacom broadband just today,
Something gets corrupted if you enter the server wrong on the first try and even editing to correct it won't fix it. You must delete the server and add a new one.
To fix it go to mail preferences and click account at the top of the prefs window. At the bottom of the account pane click the outgoing server list and select edit server list. Select your server and hit the - symbol on the left below the list. I then close the prefs, save changes and quit mail. Re-launch Mail and open prefs, select account again and edit outgoing server, click the + at the bottom of the list and add a server, double click the server where it says double click here and type mail.mchsi.com in the box. close the prefs and save changes and you should now be able to send.

  • I seem to have lost all my .mac mail settings. Can anyone help?

Woke up this morning and could not receive .mac mail. Went to type in my password and all settings were gone for serveers, ports, etc.
Any ideas on how to fix this?

Hello, check the Users folder to see if maybe your user got renamed & there's another one ion there.
    Then...
Bootup holding CMD+r, or the Option/alt key to boot from the Restore partition & use Disk Utility from there to Repair the Disk, then Repair Permissions.
    Reboot.

  • Can I sync Mac mail w/iphone and Yahoo mail?

I'm used to checking my Yahoo mail on my Mac using the mail program (not Mobile Me). Now that I've got an iPhone it checks it on Yahoo mail and uses Yahoo mail folders. I've got lots of stuff stored on my Mac in mail folders and still prefer to check my mail there. When I send a mailnote from my Mac it, obviously, doesn't show up in my sent mail in Yahoo. Is there a way to sync all of this? I really prefer the Mac mail interface than Yahoo's web browser interface. Also, the filters (a.k.a. rules) work way better in Mail.
Thoughts or am I missing something?
    Thanks.
    -Robin

    Robin,
iTunes will sync the email account settings to the iPhone, not the actual emails and folders.
When you setup the account on the iPhone, by tapping Add Account> Yahoo!> entering you account info, it is setup as a IMAP account.
Heres a thread discussing not being able to setup up a Yahoo! IMAP account on a Mac or PC: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1020969
You can contact Yahoo! support here: http://help.yahoo.com/l/us/yahoo/mail/
Also you can workaround the issue by setting up a MobileMe or Gmail IMAP account.

  • "Sync" Mac Mail on 2 Macs?

Is there any way to ONLY display emails in the Mac Mail inbox which are CURRENTLY on the server?
I am desperately trying to convert from MS Entourage to Mac Mail on my iMac at the office and another iMac at home. I use the same email account for both work and personal activites, and I generally process the work emails on the office iMac but leave my personal emails until I get home on my personal iMac.
Entourage can be config'ed so that the emails stay on the server until you delete them from your message window. Also, when you have the email set up to "allow online access", then the only emails listed are those currently still on the server. Any other emails that were downloaded/deleted previously by EITHER computer are omitted as the list updates on BOTH computers. This means that when I loaded a bunch of emails yesterday on both of my computers (work and office) and then process a few of yesterday's emails while I'm at the office TODAY, when I get home and 'reload' the messages on the server today, only the unprocessed emails (ie, emails still on the server) are displayed, while the ones I processed/deleted earlier today at the office are then omitted from the listing I get when I re-get mail on my home computer.
Mac Mail seems to work differently, however, and so after I process emails at work and delete them from my inbox, they still stay in the inbox in my computer at home, which obviously can be very confusing/cumbersome when trying to figure out which emails I've already processed vs. which need to be deleted from the inbox. Since I deal with dozens of emails each day, it's hard to manually determine which emails I processed at work earlier today so that I can delete them AGAIN on my home computer.
And so (again) the bottom line question is this:
Is there any way to ONLY have the emails listed in the Mac Mail inbox which have not yet been deleted from the server?
Thanks so much for any suggestions (which I hope do not recommend iCloud or any other remote services).
    -Phil.

On the PoweBook, I can't figure out how to add these accounts
to the Sent folder like in 10.3.9.
You can't do so manually. All account mailboxes under In, Drafts, Sent, Trash and Junk in the mailboxes drawer are (or should be) created automatically by Mail when the function is used by the account.
Have you sent messages with all accounts on the PB?
The synchronize function is for a .Mac or IMAP type account only. This does not apply to POP type accounts since incoming messages are downloaded from the server only. A POP account's Inbox mailbox in Mail or with any email client cannot be synchronized with the server.
I access a .Mac type account, two IMAP type accounts along with two POP type accounts with Tiger Mail. Under Mailbox via the menu bar, I have a "Synchronize All Accounts" and a "Synchronize" with an available selection for my .Mac type account or my two IMAP type accounts only since the synchronize function is not available for and can't be used with a POP type account.

  • How do I replicate the folders I have in Mac Mail on my iPhone?

Apologies if this is covered elsewhere on the forum - I have searched but couldn't find what I was looking for.
This should be a simple fix, but I can't work it out... All I want to do is have exactly the same Mail folders on my iPhone as I have on my desktop Mail. I'm syncing via MobileMe.
    In Mac Mail I have:
    Inbox
    Sent
    Trash
    Junk
    Action
    Filed
    Later
Whereas, on my iPhone, I have:
    Inbox
    Drafts
    Sent
    Trash
    Action
    Apple Mail To Do
    Deleted Messages
    Drafts
    Filed
    Junk
    Junk (me.com)
    Later
    Sent Messages
All I want to do is tidy the above so that my iPhone Mail only displays the folders I have in Mac Mail. If anyone can talk me through this, I'd be really grateful.

Thanks roaminggnome... but there are a lot more folders on my iPhone than there are on MobileMe and I'm still not sure why or where they came from.
Here's a question which might help clarify what the problem is. Why are there two Sent folders on my iPhone ("Sent" and "Sent Messages")? Why are there two Trash folders ("Trash" and "Deleted Messages")? Why are there two Junk folders ("Junk" and "Junk (me.com)")? Is there any way to conflate these folders so that only one folder performs each function?
I only have one Mail account, so why would I want two folders each containing (say) sent messages? I'd rather have all my sent messages in one place.... it would make like much simpler!
I hope that makes sense. Thanks for your patience in helping me with this - I'm sure I'm just overlooking something very obvious.

  • Help!  Syncing yahoo mail to mac mail

trying to sync mac mail to ymail. not sure how to fill out all the fields for "add an account". do i use "pop" or "imap" for incoming and how do i fill out field? do i use smptauth, etc for outgoing and (again) how exactly do i fill out field boxes? i was synced to earthlink for a few years, but now am on satellite wildblue and using free yahoo mail. any help gratefully appreciated - all i keep getting every time i attempt to set this up is "ymail server not responding" etc. so i figure i'm doing something wrong! also - i have NOT deleted my earthlink account settings yet.

You can't. Yahoo Plus only offers POP access. To do what you want, you'll need an email provider who offers email via IMAP.

  • Does MobileMe sync e-mail messages or only the account settings between computers?

Does MobileMe actually sync e-mail messages between computers or only the account settings?

Here's a scenario:  We have an iPhone, an iMac, and a MacBook Plus that we want to sync with MobileMe. So let's say that we check our e-mail using the iMac tomorrow. We save some new messages and delete the rest. Does MobileMe then sync (i.e. save the same messages and delete the rest on the iPhone and the MacBook Plus)? Or do we need to go through the same process with the iPhone and the MacBook Plus as we did on the iMac?
Also, does MobileMe sync addresses, favorites, documents, etc.?
If you delete a message on the iMac it would also automatically delete that message on the iPhone and MacBook. If you send a message from the iPhone it would appear in the sent messages folder on the MacBook. If you receive a message on the MacBook and read it then it would appear as read on the iMac, etc.
Yes, MobileMe will sync your address book, Safari bookmarks and documents. However it's a little trickier with the documents as it involves localizing your iDisk. I'm personally not a huge fan of the tech that Apple uses for the iDisk (WebDAV) and I feel there are some better solutions out there but it will get the job done.
It's important to add that Apple offers a 60-day, no obligation, trial of MobileMe for you to try out and see if the features are worth it for $99/year.

  • How do I export mac mail signatures?

Since migrating from Mobile Me to iCloud I have noticed that the signatures (of which I have a few) in Mac Mail do not sync to my other machines. My question is, how can I export my Mac Mail Signatures to another machine?

    Close Mail in both machines.
In the computer where your signatures are, go to your user library (in OS Lion this is hidden, but you may access it by holding down the option (alt) key while clicking on "go" then you will see the library item in the list. Another option to access it is to go to finder, click on "go", select "go to folder" and paste this: "~/Library"
Once you are there, go to Mail - > v2 -> MailData
You will find a folder called "Signatures". Copy this folder.
Go to the same locatin in the other machine. Make a backup copy of the "Signatures" folder and replace it with the other machine's folder.
Open Mail and check everything is running.

  • Dumb question Mac Mail inbox synchronisation

I'm really sorry if this is a dumb question...I have just started using Mac Mail (from Entourage) with a .Mac account and want to synchronise my messages across my two Macs. I thought that if I deleted messages on one mac, they would be deleted from the server and when I checked mail on the other Mac they would be gone. However, this does not seem to be the case - instead, I need to delete them on both macs. Is something in my setup wrong?
    Thanks for any help

I haven't....are you saying you think I should? Funnily enough, after never having had a problem before, I had a problem syncing my bookmarks yesterday, so maybe I should resetting the SyncServices.
Also, on the .Mac preferences - does it matter if the syncing schedule is set to be automatic, every hour, manual etc? Previously I had it set as manual, but maybe I need to set it as automatic?
Thanks again so much for your help.

  • Mac Mail and Outlook 2007

    Hi,
Perhaps this has been asked and answered already, but I browsed the forums and couldn't find the answer so my apologies if I missed it.
I recently purchased a PC with Windows 7. I opened up Outlook 2007 and configured my email by typing in my mac mail address and password. I figured that it would just duplicate my email in my mac mail. However, it took all my mac mail and moved it to outlook on my new PC.
I prefer mac mail as I have it sent directly to my iphone for convenience, but I don't mind using Outlook as well.
First of all: Is there a way to get all my mail back to my macbook?
Second: Is there a way I can have the best of both worlds and have Outlook 2007 and Mac Mail sync together?
Thank you for any help or direction on where I can find the answer to my questions.

I've tried everything and still not found a solution too.
I am unable to work remotely.

  • Sync & multiple mail accounts???

I know that sync is capable of syncing .mac mail accounts when using the mail app, but I was wondering if it was possible to set sync up so that it can also sync my earthlink email too. If so, is there a way to have the folders that I use in the mailbox window to save old messages to sync as well?
    Thanks

    Hello Steve.
    The answer is no.
The sync function can be used on server stored mailboxes for .Mac or IMAP type accounts only since server stored mailboxes in the Mail.app and with other email clients are synchronized with the server.
Incoming messages sent to a POP type account are downloaded from the server only. You can select to keep messages on the server when downloaded by the Mail.app or with another email client but you cannot save Drafts, Sent, Trash, Junk or user created mailboxes on the server with a POP type account.

  • How do I get my ALL MAIL gmail folder back in Mac Mail after upgrading to Mavericks?

    Hi
I've upgraded to Mavericks - very cool !........ but my Mac Mail gmail ALL MAIL folder seems to have vanished in my Mac Mail listings.
Any advice how to get it back?
    N)

It seems its all in the new ARCHIVE folder which shows up now.......but dont delete mails in the inbox as that really deletes them and they go to TRASH.  So you have to manually MOVE TO ARCHIVE to ensure it finds itself in ALL MAIL on the gmail server.  Hope that helps?

  • Mac mail version 6.5 (1508)

i have noticed that on mac mail version 6.5 (1508), any mails which have been recieved earlier in the inbox and now being replied to the same.
One copy of the sent mail to the recipeint comes back to me as a copy.
where as i have noticed i do not have the option ticked for, every email sent out BCC me 1 copy of the email.
And neither do the rules exist.
however this happens only when i respond back to the emails i already have in my inbox.
if i compose a new email and sent to the reciepeint, i do not recieve this 1 copy back in in my inbox.
have checked my mail server settings for any valid forward on the email box configured, this does not exist.
so therefore i would like to understand if this is some sort of software bug with this version of mail.

Back up all data, then reinstall the OS. You don't need to erase the startup volume, and you won't need your backup unless something goes wrong. If your Mac was upgraded from an older version of OS X, you’ll need the Apple ID and password you used to upgrade.
If you installed the Java runtime distributed by Apple and still need it, you'll have to reinstall it.

  • How can I configure Mac Mail to use the correct SMTP server?

I have successfully set up Mac Mail to use a new e-mail account. Inbound and outbound mail is working just fine. However, I am seeing something odd when I create a new message or reply to an existing message. The outbound account that shows is not that which has been configured for the account. I can manually select the correct outbound account.
    What are my troubleshooting steps?
