Have to manually select my network each time I open an application

We recently upgraded to an Intel iMac from a G3 iMac. Everything transferred great using the migration assistant. Our only problem is that we have to manually select our home network each time we open an application such as Safari. Once connected everything works great. It's a minor inconvenience but one I'd like to fix. Probably it's just a simple check box somewhere but I haven't been able to find it. Thanks in advance for any help.

In the Network perference pane, under Airport, there is a setting that should read "By default join preferred networks." Beneath this setting, there is a list of preferred networks. Make sure that your home network is listed first, and/or delete all others (if any). Also, make sure that the setting "Disconnect from network upon logout" is not selected.

I have a new desktop HP PC running windows 7. I have downloaded the OpenOffice suite having used it already for several months on my old PC. I didn't have this problem on my old PC (DELL D400 Windows XP) on which I previously used IE8.

Cor-el's suggestion resolved my problem. Apparently the MOZ_NO_REMOTE variable was set to 1 on my system variables. I never made it, and really have no idea how it got there, but deleting this variable and restarting firefox has resolved the issue. Thanks Cor-el!
    Marking case: Solved
Solution: Verify the MOZ_NO_REMOTE variable is NOT set to 1. This can be achieved by simply deleting this variable.

  • Have IMAC, Mountain Lion mail. Each time I open mail, the message Mail can't connect to the account "Google" followed by a request for a password of an acct that was previously deleted. How do I get rid of the message? Thanks

I have an IMAC, Mountain Lion. Each time I open my mail, a message box appears with the message Mail can't connect to the account "Google", followed by Enter the password for the user   *****@gmail.com. The full account that appears is an account that I had previously deleted. I cannot prevent the message box from appearing. What do I have to tweak in order for this annoying box to keep reappearing. I have deleted everything I know of in Google mail and my IMAC mail. Thanks for any feedback

From the Mail menu bar, select
    Window ▹ Connection Doctor
Look for the unwanted SMTP (outgoing mail) account in the window that opens. Double-click it. Another window will open, showing a list of all the outgoing mail accounts. The unwanted one will be selected. Click the minus-sign button to delete it, then click OK.
If there's more than one unwanted account, repeat.

  • Have to manually choose wireless network every time I turn on my Macbook

I am using a Macbook Pro for a few days now and it seems that every time I turn it on, I must manually select my wireless network before it will connect. How can I get the computer to do that automatically? I have tried what seem to be all the network settings and nothing works.

Actually, I have. What I didn't realize when I started this thread is that this situation has been discussed elsewhere and it appears to be a bug that Apple will need to address.
It makes no difference how the settings are set, when the Macbook is restarted it does not automatically select a wireless network. It will start the airport card ok, and list all the networks ok, and as long as my encryption key is in keychain, all I have to do is press the airport icon and then the network which I use and it will stay on even if I put the computer to sleep, but it will NOT automatically choose this network if I turn the computer off and back on again.
Guess I just need to wait for a firmware upgrade like everyone else.

  • Have to manually turn on airport every time I open my macbook

Every time I open my MacBook I have to go in a manually turn airport on. Once it's on, it connects with no problems. It started this fun new game yesterday and I can't figure out how to fix it. Does anyone have any advice? It will be much appreciated!!

Hi, have you checked in your preferences to make sure airport turns on automatically at startup?
Having just got my mum one I've been having a close look at how it works and I found the same problem. You should be able to set it in preferences to come on automatically , either system prefs or airport prefs. Can't remember off the top of my head.
    Hope this helps.

  • Why am I having to re-enter my registration information each time I open the application?

    Hi All,
I purchased Apeture with my Macbook three years ago and have just recently decided to utilize it. EVERY time I open the program I'm prompted to enter my registration information. I'm entering the info each time, but would love not to! (I registered the product in an attempt to make the dialog box go away to no avail.) Any ideas?

First of all, are you using an administrator account, when you are entering the serial number? Aperture needs to write the information to the system library, not the user library. Try to log in from an admin account while entering the serial number. If that does not help,  you may have a corrupted "ProAppSystemID" file or Aperture cannot write to the System Library.
First check, if you still have an old file "ProAppSystemID" in your System Library.
    Quit Aperture.
Go to your MacintoshHD and open the folder "Library", then "Application Support", then "ProApps".
Remove the File "ProAppsSystemID" to the Desktop, if it exist and restart Aperture.
Reenter your serial number, hopefully for the last time.
Sometimes Aperture writes this file to a temporary directory, when it cannot write to the Library. If the above does not work, look at the temporary directory /tmp
    Use the Finder's "Go" menu
Go > Got to folder    and  enter /tmp into the textfield. If you see the file there, move it to its proper location.
Check the permission on the folder "Library", then "Application Support", then "ProApps". You (as admin) need to have read/write access to all flders along the path.

  • Why do we have to manually recreate our accounts each time the email server goes down?

On very infrequent occassions (fortunately), our email server will go off-line.  Whenever this happens, every one of us has to login to the Blackberry Internet Service website to reenter the account information.  This is very annyoing.  Why doesn't it just automatically reconnect when the email server goes back up?

No idea why. I'm guessing the the BIS system goes to check for email and can't find the account.  Then it sends you the email to revalidate and it won't check again until you do.  If it was setup to check too many times with, say, a wrong password, it may lock the account.  This is only a guess on my part.
Your people with accounts setup like this should know how to go to their email setup on their device and validate the password.  It's not very complicated and takes only a moment.

  • Have to reset the Apple TV each time I open it. Is it possible it is the result of recent transfer to iCloud?

Each morning when I open CalmRadio on my Surround System which come from iTune through Apple TV  I have to reset the Apple TV to get the signal through. I tought it was the result of a recent change of my router but I just remember that I have installed iCloud recently.  Would it be possible that would be the reason of the necessity to reset apple TV every morning?  Thanks.

I'd say your router, iCloud hasn't caused me any problems. It may be settings or interference.
Interference can be caused by other networks in the neighbourhood or from household electrical items.
You can download and install iStumbler (NetStumbler for windows users) to help you see which channels are used by neighbouring networks so that you can avoid them, but iStumbler will not see household items.
Refer to your router manual for instructions on changing your wifi channel.
There are other types of problems that can affect networks, but this is by far the most common, hence worth mentioning first.

  • Have to log into iCloud accounts each time Mail opens

Since installing Mavericks, I now have to put my password in everytime Mail opens. I searched for this problem before posting, but I couldn't see my exact same problem. I tried doing this:
    >Click on the Go Menu,
    >Press the option key.
    >Click on Library
    >open containers
    >trash com.apple.mail.
    >Restart computer
    It did NOT solve it.
Looking at the Prefs in Mail, the Password is not in there even after I enter it. All my other e-mails are fine. My iClous is also set up in the System Prefs and it is fine and logged in there.

I figured this out, in case you happned to see this thread and you're having this issue too the solution can be found here: http://www.wired.com/gadgetlab/2013/10/mavericks-issues-and-fixes/?viewall=true
"Select the iCloud email account you're having issues with. Select the Advanced tab. Under the Authentication drop down, select Apple Token."

  • Have 15 tabs that generally load each time I open Firefox. But every 3-4 weeks (?) I open Firefox and they are gone! Has happend in Firefox 12 11 10

I run Ccleaner every couple of days so it shouldn't be related to an accidental settings deletion.
This has been happening intermittently since at least version 9
    I have a Windows 7 i5 Desktop

Did you check the CCleaner isn't removing session data?
You can make a backup copy of the sessionstore.js file that stores the open tabs (session data).
Then you can restore that file to get that session back.

You can use this button to go to the Firefox profile folder:

  • Have to manually connect to network after each restart?

When I turned my PB on it would always automatically connect to my home wireless network (after I'd entered the password etc. of course). But now I have to manually select the network everytime I turn it on - I've played with a few settings to no avail and this problem does not occur with other networks that I've joined (at my folks for example). It's not a biggie but I'm scratching my head and it's just a little frustrating. Any ideas? Cheers

    Hi,
When I put the computer to sleep... it comes back on with the network I had on before. When I shut it down and restart it, I have to select the one I want... as it can see my neighbors network and on occasion one farther away. If there is only the one, and it's yours with the known password, there is one choice. My daughter brings her laptop over to use my Hi-Speed, and the first time I put in the password... now it goes to it all by itself when she is here, if the neighbors is not on, it's automatic. Otherwise, she too has to select which network she wants to join.
Fewer options are better, otherwise too many choices and you have to tell the Mac what you want today.
    Enjoy

  • Why do i need to reconfigure a network each time i boot up ? (G5, airport)

I am using a G5 with a built in airport extreme card and a mini antenna. Each time I boot up I have to reconfigure a network. I could not locate any info from Apple regarding this problem. Any one know how to solve this problem?
    Thanks in advance.

    G5   Mac OS X (10.4.3)

It sounds as if you have an ad-hoc network, that is a computer-to-computer network without a base station. A by product of ad-hoc networking is that you have to re-establish the network each time the computer that establishes the network is booted. This disadvantage is overcome by having a dedicated router in your network.

  • Why do I have to accept agreement each time I open a CC program?

I have to accept the license agreement each time I open an Adobe CC product. Sometimes I have to relogin to CC. Why is this happening? I should be able to accept the agreement once for a single product and have all products activated, not have to accept the agreement and login each time I open a program. For example, I'm working in Photoshop and have to accept the agreement. With PS open, I open a PDF and have to accept the agreement. I close Photoshop and upon reopen I have to accept the agreement again about 75% of the time. Same with all CC products.
Is the Creative Cloud connector not keeping the registration data or something? All software that I'm using is updated including the cloud connector.
    Thanks for the help

    Hi Jamie,
    A couple things to test:
Try launching the app by right clicking and choosing Run as Administrator
    Try disabling User Account Control
    Turn off User Account Control
