Have to press "Cmd+Q" twice to quit Safari

I saw a similarly-titled question in the other threads, but it wasn't about this particular issue.
I noticed that, after installing Lion and firing up Safari 5.1, I have to press my usual "Cmd+Q" keystrokes twice in order to have Safari actually quit. When I press the combo the first time, nothing happens at all, including the Safari menu highlighting that would have normally occurred prior to the Lion upgrade. On the second press of Cmd+Q, Safari actually quits.
This can be reproduced every single time, yet I have no other oddities related to this that I can surmise.
Thank you.

Quit Safari.
Go to ~/Library/Caches/com.apple.Safari.
Move the Cache.db file from the com.apple.Safari folder to the trash.
Relaunch Safari. Try Command Q.

  • Safari/Firefox need to Cmd+Q twice to quit.

No big deal, but it's bored.
It has been a long time, everytime I quit the Safari or Firefox, few secs later, the icon on the dock jumps again - the browser starts again. And I need to Cmd+Q one more time to quit it.
Someone told me to delete the .plist file of the browser, but it works only a few time, and the problem comes back soon.
Is there any way to fix it? Thx!

See my reply to your other thread....your hard drive is failing.

I cannot shut dow my MacBook Pro using the apple icon (as it was suppose to be), actually I have to press and hold the on/off buttom. I have taken twice for Mac dealer and they did not solve the problem. What must I do? I would to remark that I have installed 2 antivirus and uninstalled one of them. Since then I have facing this troublesome issue. Thanks

Uninstall the other AV software. They are not needed. All they do is cause trouble like you are having now.
If you have been forcing the Mac to shut down with the power switch you may nave corrupted your disk. You should repair it with disk Utilty to remove any corruption the shutdwons may have cased.

  • Safari will lock up on my MacBook Pro. Force quit doesn't help. When I try to restart the computer, I get an error saying Safari cancelled the restart. I have to press the power button to shut down the computer.

While I'm using safari,  it will freeze up. When I force quit safari and reopen it, I find that I'm back to where I was when I did the force quit and safari remains locked up. When I try to restart the computer, I get a pop up that says that safari cancelled my restart. I then press the power button to shut down the computer. When I reboot the computer and open safari, I see all the tabs and windows that were opened when this issue began, only this time safari isn't frozen. This problem started yesterday.
Has anyone experienced the same problem? Is there a fix for this problem?

Try Resetting Safari: Open Safari. Cick on the name Safari in the menu bar. In the drop down menu click Reset Safari.

  • When quitting safari I used to get a dialogue box with checkboxes, useful if I accidentally pressed command q, but now option seems to have disappeared. Any ideas why or how to retrieve it please?

I used to get a dialogue box when quitting safari, which was useful if accidentally hitting 'command q', but has now disappeared leading to lost work etc.
Any idea why, or how I can get this useful option back please?

Now resolved, after chatting to Apple online support, who said they'd not heard of this happening - solved it quickly enough though.
Anyone interested or suffering similar I was told to remove website data from privacy tab in Safari preferences. And yes, I'd love to know how it worked too.....
    Great thanks to Apple.

If you are having an immediate problem with ads popping up see The Safe Mac » Adware Removal Guide, AdwareMedic, or Remove unwanted adware that displays pop-up ads and graphics on your Mac - Apple Support.
Open Safari, select Preferences from the Safari menu. Click on Extensions icon in the toolbar. Disable all Extensions. If this stops your problem, then re-enable them one by one until the problem returns. Now remove that extension as it is causing the problem.
The following comes from user stevejobsfan0123. I have made minor changes to adapt to this presentation.
Fix Some Browser Pop-ups That Take Over Safari.
Common pop-ups include a message saying the government has seized your computer and you must pay to have it released (often called "Moneypak"), or a phony message saying that your computer has been infected, and you need to call a tech support number (sometimes claiming to be Apple) to get it resolved. First, understand that these pop-ups are not caused by a virus and your computer has not been affected. This "hijack" is limited to your web browser. Also understand that these messages are scams, so do not pay any money, call the listed number, or provide any personal information. This article will outline the solution to dismiss the pop-up.
    Quit Safari
Usually, these pop-ups will not go away by either clicking "OK" or "Cancel." Furthermore, several menus in the menu bar may become disabled and show in gray, including the option to quit Safari. You will likely have to force quit Safari. To do this, press Command + option + esc, select Safari, and press Force Quit.
    Relaunch Safari
If you relaunch Safari, the page will reopen. To prevent this from happening, hold down the 'Shift' key while opening Safari. This will prevent windows from the last time Safari was running from reopening.
This will not work in all cases. The shift key must be held at the right time, and in some cases, even if done correctly, the window reappears. In these circumstances, after force quitting Safari, turn off Wi-Fi or disconnect Ethernet, depending on how you connect to the Internet. Then relaunch Safari normally. It will try to reload the malicious webpage, but without a connection, it won't be able to. Navigate away from that page by entering a different URL, i.e. www.apple.com, and trying to load it. Now you can reconnect to the Internet, and the page you entered will appear rather than the malicious one.

If you require anti-virus protection Thomas Reed recommends using ClamXAV. (Thank you to Thomas Reed for this recommendation.)
From user Joe Bailey comes this equally useful advice:
    The facts are:
    1. There is no anti-malware software that can detect 100% of the malware out there.
    2. There is no anti-malware that can detect everything targeting the Mac.
    3. The very best way to prevent the most attacks is for you as the user to be aware that
the most successful malware attacks rely on very sophisticated social engineering
techniques preying on human avarice, ****, and fear.
    4. Internet popups saying the FBI, NSA, Microsoft, your ISP has detected malware on
your computer is intended to entice you to install their malware thinking it is a
        protection against malware.
    5. Some of the anti-malware products on the market are worse than the malware
from which they purport to protect you.
    6. Be cautious where you go on the internet.
    7. Only download anything from sites you know are safe.
    8. Avoid links you receive in email, always be suspicious even if you get something
you think is from a friend, but you were not expecting.
    9. If there is any question in your mind, then assume it is malware.

  • Why should I need to press the link twice?

    Hi Everyone,
I have developed an application in the Sun's MIDP 2.0 API, in which I have used Custom Designed Items. I have designed a LINK item. Application is working fine. BUT only problem is, I have to press the link Item TWICE. It should work on pressing it only 1 time.
On traversing it grabs focus properly. I have also added listener by calling setItemCommandListener() method. Everything is working fine, but I have to press it twice.
Is there anything wrong? If it is wrong, it shouldn't work on even pressing twice. So I think coding is correct.
    Please give me suggestions.
One more thing... The code is working fine on the nokia and samsung devices, it is giving the described problem only on blackberry. I have posted the same question on BlackBerry forum, but they told me to use RIM's API. But due to some reasons I don't want to use it.
So here, if anybody have experience on BlackBerry development using Sun's MIDP API, please guide me to achieve this. I am desperately waiting for the reply.
    Best Regards.

    thanks michael for replying,
but I didn't need to do that in the recent past!
when I simply clicked on the triangle, all the other options become visible. now, when I only click, nothing becomes visible!
now I need to click using the CTRL-button at the same time.
    what has changed here?
I phoned my collegue. he doesn't need to use the ctrl-button either...
    what did I miss???
    greetings

  • Save As window appears when pressing CMD+S shortcut

    Hi!
I had this problem a couple of days ago. Whenever I press CMD+S (which is supposedly a shortcut for a quick save on Mac) the Save As window always appear. I looked at the File menu and there's nothing wrong with the shortcut key. I also tried pressing CMD+SHIFT+S (which is the real Save As shortcut) and it works fine. Please help me with this. Thanks!

Does the image conform to the png requirements?
Does it have multiple Layers etc.?
If so then it can not be saved as a png directly naturally.

  • When I shut the lid to my computer and then open it again the screen comes on and then goes black and I have to press random keys to make it show again.  Does anyone know why this is happening?

When I close my lid to make the computer sleep and I open it back up again when I am ready to use it the screen turns on and then turns black.  I have to press random keys to make the screen show again.  Any help is greatly appreciated!

First, before you sleep your MBP, make sure you either scroll down the Apple menu to sleep your machine, or do it even more easily by pressing CMD-OPTION - DiskDrive (upper right hand corner of your keyboard). I wouldn't just close your machine to let it sleep.
It's hard to know exactly what's happening, but here are a few pointers.
    1. Go to System Preferences/Energy Saver and make sure you've set a sleep time of more than two or three minutes. Your machine may be trying to sleep too early. In the same preferences, set Computer Sleep to more than ten minutes, to make sure you don't get an unintentional sleep.
    2. Take a look for third-party applications you might have installed.
    Post here with your results!

  • A former employee has returned a 17" MBP and cleared the OS. All attempts to reinstall are failing, start up disc, repower C pressed, Cmd-R etc - anyone any ideas?

A former employee has returned a 17" MBP and cleared the OS. All attempts to reinstall are failing, start up disc, repower C pressed, Cmd-R etc - anyone any ideas?

Did you have the original OS installation disk?  If not, call Apple Customer relations and provide them with the MBP serial number (on the bottom) and they will send you replacements.  There is a charge.
If this is a late 2011 MBP, the it came with Lion installed.  Try accessing the Apple servers with OPTION COMMAND R keys held down at start up.  The display should show a picture of a globe.  Proceed accordingly.  If no success, call Apple as already described.
    Ciao.

  • LG Revolution - No mobile network connection, slow at everything, have to press "End" at least 3 times before ending a call, etc.

Does anyone else have an LG Revolution with NEVER ENDING PROBLEMS?!
My biggest issue right now: I can't get any service when I'm at work. I work with about 5 others who have Verizon as their provider and they will all have 4 bars of service when I have absolutely nothing - but this only happens when I'm at work. It used to help when I put it in Airplane Mode for a while and switched it back. It also sometimes helped if I pulled the battery and SIM card out for a while, but now nothing works at all.
The second issue I have is this phone was really fast when I first got it and it's progressively gotten slower. I've had it since July 2011 and I CAN'T WAIT until my next upgrade. The slowness of this phone is just irritating. I go through the phone's browser history every few days and delete everything, the cache, the location access, the saved passwords, etc. I also go through and delete the old text messages and call logs. It doesn't make a difference. And I'm assuming that the fact that I have to press "END" a zillion times when I'm trying to end a call has to do with the slowness of the phone.
One more big issue: Whenever I call Verizon Wireless Tech support for any help, they say they can't help me troubleshoot the phone because I'm calling from it, but I don't have a land line at my house, and I'm not about to spend my entire day at work on the phone trying to fix it.
Anyone have any suggestions? ANYTHING would be helpful

Has nothing to do with the SIM or master reset.  This has been done to my phone.  The SIM once and the factory reset many times over.  You all just sold us a bad piece of equipment and have us by the tail with our contracts so none of us can get a new phone without paying full price or re-upping our contract.  I just got off the phone last night with your high up tech people (you know, the hidden number we get once we tear into your support people enough), they went into my phone again and still didn't find anything wrong.  I about got fired from my job for not getting my calls and texts.  The BBB has now been contacted, and I feel your end should shore this up for all of us!

I am trying to download a variety of files and when it is finished, the Mac freezes up and the task bar continue to blink on and off.
I have to go into Firefox and actually quit the application to continue. Any help is very much appreciated.

are you backing up files, or doing a Time machine backup, either way, the Time machine will STOP when finished and show "last backup at XXXXXX"  meaning its done...... OR if when transferring files, it will show a progress bar on your desktop and vanish when files are copied.
Open up the Hitachi drive (your G drive is made by Hitachi, and the best made by the way).....and see if the files are there.
a MORE VISUAL way is to open the hard drive file, and drag and drop files INTO the Gdrive and you can see them visually be copied there as you do it.
To see your HD on your desktop GOTO  FINDER......PREFERENCES....then GENERAL TAB.........check the box marked HARD DRIVES.........then your Gdrive will appear on your desktop........open it from there,  and DRAG and drop files from anywhere INTO the Gdrive....... easy visual way to see the files being copied into the Gdrive.
