Have to press keys upon boot
I have to press keys upon booting on some steps so that the booting process would go further (the same with shutdown). If I don't press some keys, the process will just stay there.
It doesn't help to switch between kdb/mouse and evdev drivers. I don't understand this thing.

Ok, I'll try to explain a bit better . When booting Arch we of course get the nice log of what's going on (as defined in rc.sysinit) but in some steps the proces just... stops. And no matter how crazy it sounds, when I press some keys like 2 or 3 times, the booting process... continues! The same thing happens upon shutdown. We waited like (my dad's PC) 20 seconds and nothing happened until we hit some keys a few times. It was friggin' embarassing and hilarious at the same time when the task was to change from unstable Ubuntu to stable Arch.

Cool, will check this out as soon as possible. It will be the next saturday if my dad is willing to try the move of Ubuntu -> Arch again .

,new iPad Air2 ....keyboard does not respond to typing, not a wifi issue. Happens at the beginning of sentences and sometimes the delete key.
Hello lynfrommeredith,
Thanks for the question. It sounds like you are experiencing issues typing on your iPad Air 2. Do these issues occur in one app? Or do you experience them system-wide?
If the issue is isolated to one app, you can try forcing the app to close and restarting your device:

Restart or reset your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support

If you are experiencing the issues system-wide, we can restore your device to factory settings to isolate the issue further:

Nano pauses during playback - have to press key to replay
For no apparent reason, my ipod nano will seemingly pause in the middle of playing EVEN if the HOLD button is activated. It did this CONSTANTLY last night when running with it. Not sure why, but it seems the HOLD button doesn't deactivate the keys properly. I like my Shuffle much better!
Any ideas? This happens to me when I use certain minijacks in the headphone port. If they shift, and come out slightly, the ipod pauses. Could that be it for you?

Sorry to disappoint you, but this isn't MacWorld.
when I want to write @ I have to press g instead of the @ key
Are you sure you don't have to press ⌥-G (Option-G) to get @?
Anyway, sounds like a keyboard/keyboard layout mismatch.
Go to System Preferences > Language & Text > Input Sources. From "Select input methods to use" enable (check) the following
Keyboard & Character Viewer
U.S.
Spanish
Spanish - ISO
Also enable "Show Input menu in menu bar".
The Input menu should appear to the right of your menu bar, with the icon of a national flag. From this menu, choose "Show Keyboard Viewer". Then compare the layout displayed by Keyboard Viewer with the label on your MBP's keyboard. If it doesn't match, choose a different layout from the Input menu.
My suspicion is that you're using a US keyboard with a Spanish keyboard layout, hence the difference you noted. -

Hey rudreshchoubey,
Thanks for the question. The following resource may help to resolve your issue:
Boot Camp Installation & Setup Guide
http://manuals.info.apple.com/MANUALS/1000/MA1636/en_US/boot_camp_install-setup_ 10.8.pdf
If Windows doesn’t install properly
Verify that you’re using an original, full version of the 64-bit version of Windows 7 Home Premium, Windows 7 Professional, Windows 7 Ultimate, Windows 8, or Windows 8 Pro.
Restart your Mac and hold down the Option key until one or more disk icons appear on your screen. Insert the Windows installation disc into the optical drive or insert the USB flash drive with Windows into a USB port on your Mac. Select the Windows installation disk icon, then click the arrow beneath it. Quickly press any key on your keyboard to start the installer. Follow the onscreen instructions to repair or reinstall Windows.
Thanks,

I get kernel paic upon boot. I did that hard drive cleanup and reinstalled Lion. What about memory? Anyone think I need to upgrade my memory? I have 8 G of upgraded RAM. (20 inch iMac core 2 duo)
If you're able to boot, launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ If you’re running Mac OS X 10.7 or later, open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the page that opens.
Select the most recent panic log under System Diagnostic Reports. Post the contents — the text, please, not a screenshot. For privacy’s sake, I suggest you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header and body of the report, if it’s present (it may not be.) Please don't post "shutdownStall" or "hang" reports.
If you can't boot in the usual way, try a safe boot. The instructions provided by Apple are as follows:
Be sure your Mac is shut down.
Press the power button.
Immediately after you hear the startup tone, hold the Shift key. The Shift key should be held as soon as possible after the startup tone, but not before the tone.
Release the Shift key when you see the gray Apple icon and the progress indicator (looks like a spinning gear).
During startup, you’ll see a progress bar, and then the login screen, which appears even if you normally log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Safe mode is slower than normal, and some things won’t work at all.
Note: If FileVault is enabled under Mac OS X 10.7 or later, you can’t boot in safe mode. -
Every time I start my computer it will automatically go to a black screen saying press any key to boot from cd. When I hit a key nothing happnes. If I start the computer and hit the option key and then select MAC the computer will start. I think this is a boot camp problem because this problem started when I tried to install a windows 7 64 bit (my computer only supports 32 bit) on my computer through boot camp. I now have a fully licensed windows 7 and I'm trying to install it but when I start the computer and press option and hit the windows 7 start up disk nothing will happen.
Kyle,
Sounds as though a do-over is in order. But first, you'll have to make OS X the default in the boot menu.
To return to Mac OS X and make it the default:
Hold the Option key at startup, to bring up the boot menu.
Hold the Control key. The straight selection arrow will change to a wrap-around arrow, indicating a "persistent boot"
While holding this key, click your OS X volume,
Let go of the Control key
Mac OS X will now be the default.
Start the Boot Camp Assistant, restore the original volume, restart, and try again. Read the Installation and Setup Guide carefully this time through. If you have further problems, post your experience in a new topic, as it is likely your issues will be somewhat different.

Can't complete windows installation - Stuck at Press any key to boot from..
I am unable to install windows xp service pack 3 or windows 7 on to my iMac running latest boot camp installer. I can start the installation process, but when windows installer completes copying all the files on to the boot camp partition and reboots the system I get stuck at this message "PRESS ANY KEY TO BOOT FROM A CD OR DVD", which won't go away even if I wait for 10-15 minutes. To get rid of this I have to hard reset the iMac by pressing the power button for a few seconds and then boot into Mac HD using the option key.
Please advise if I need to tweak some settings to complete the installation or if you need more information to resolve this issue. Thanks!I was able to complete the installation process by formatting the windows bootcamp partition through windows installer (and not using Mac disk utility to format the partition into NTFS format). Hope this helps someone.

I partitioned my MacBook Pro and installed Windows 8 in it.....now I can't find my partition when I pressed option key when booting up.....so how can I do to find the partition to boot...I can see it in the disk manager in Mac....any ideas? thanks..!..
Hi LamboMong,
just try this:
http://refit.sourceforge.net
install, reboot twice and choose the Windows-Partition on next startup.
(The apple-bootloader doesn't display all bootable harddisks.
With rEFIt you can boot from all partitions/harddisks on your computer.)
I hope that will solve your problem.

My question mark and forward slash key have suddenly stopped working. Have I pressed something I shouldn't have. Any ideas what to do.

If they do nothing at all, double check system preferences/speech and make sure they have not somehow gotten set as the trigger for Text to speech or speech recognition, etc.
Also try an external keyboard. If it works ok, then your internal keyboard is probably damaged and needs repair or replacement. -
Cannot get iPhone 4 to talk with Mac Lion using Numpad. Have updated, restarted etc. Have Screen Sharing on. It sees my computer but when I press keys on the NumPad there is no response. I have tried it on the Calculator and on Sibelius. Any clues??
Here's how to do it.
1. App Store, iTunes Store should have the same AppleID on Computer and iPhones. (Free to share apps, music and books... )
2. Person A uses the same purchasing account for everything (ie. email, contacts and ...).
3. Person B have the same purchase account see no. 1 (for App Store and iTunes Store) but create a second AppleID for iCal, e-mail, contacts and etc. -
When I close my lid to make the computer sleep and I open it back up again when I am ready to use it the screen turns on and then turns black. I have to press random keys to make the screen show again. Any help is greatly appreciated!
First, before you sleep your MBP, make sure you either scroll down the Apple menu to sleep your machine, or do it even more easily by pressing CMD-OPTION - DiskDrive (upper right hand corner of your keyboard). I wouldn't just close your machine to let it sleep.
It's hard to know exactly what's happening, but here are a few pointers.
1. Go to System Preferences/Energy Saver and make sure you've set a sleep time of more than two or three minutes. Your machine may be trying to sleep too early. In the same preferences, set Computer Sleep to more than ten minutes, to make sure you don't get an unintentional sleep.
2. Take a look for third-party applications you might have installed.
Post here with your results! -

to enter data in fields in forms and even in the search bar I have to press the tab key. If i do not press tab the silly mac beeps at me and won't let me type. I asked the mac geniuses and they blame firefox, guessing you guys will blame mac... but it is really annoying.
Hello new_mac_user, see if the next works
# In the [[Location bar autocomplete|Location bar]], type '''about:config''' and press '''Enter'''. The about:config "''This might void your warranty!''" warning page may appear.
# Click '''I'll be careful, I promise!''', to continue to the about:config page.
# in search field type (or copy/paste from here) '''accessibility.tabfocus'''
# double-click on it and change the value to '''4''' (probably you have 1 the default on mac)
# click ok, exit firefox and restart it.
with the above you give focus to links (and linked images) only when you press the tab key.
see for more info : http://kb.mozillazine.org/Accessibility.tabfocus

When my Mac Book Pro is asleep and I lift the cover the screen goes dark and I have to press the F2 key to get it back. What do I need to do to prevent this?
Try this, may help.
1. Reset PRAM. http://support.apple.com/kb/PH4405
2. Reset SMC. http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964
Choose the method for:
"Resetting SMC on portables with a battery you should not remove on your own".
If this does not help, contact Apple.
Best.
