Have to rotate power plug to charge

This is a weird one. Recently my Thinkpad power plug stopped charging unless I rotated it at a certain angle. I just rotate it clockwise until I get the *beep* programmed in that tells me from ThinkVantage it's charging. Now I want to permenently fix this. Is this a power plug problem or a internal motherboard/mainboard problem? I'm really hoping it's the first one since it's relatively easy and cheap to replace. Thanks.

the thinkpad's power plug receptor can be removed by unscrewing couple of screw and remove a wire clip, you don't need to solder. Here the manual shows you how to do it.

  • Do i have to use power adapter to charge laptop?

We have an 11-inch MacBook Air (mid-2012) which came at the time with a power cord permanently (apparently) attached to a heavy (annoying) power adapter, which then becomes the 5 pin plug to charge the laptop.   Is there a way to charge this without this bulky cumbersome long plug & heavy adapter?  The small space where we use this & taking it anywhere makes this extremely annoying.  Any help is appreciated.
    Thanks!

Thanks Csound1…  So this cannot be changed via USB or some other way the 5 pin plug can plug into some other lighter wall adapter?  It just seems strangely cumbersome.  The adapter looks like you could pull it apart or unplug it from itself.  The ones I see online for sale (see attached photo) look like this.   Mine has the same skinny wire attached to it (other end is the 5 pin magnetic plug to Air), but the other side of my adapter (in this picture where this looks like it would open), I have another thick wire which seems permanently stuck to this adapter and the end of that long thick wire is what plugs into the wall.  Mine has this same "look" where you see the lines that imply it would open or be a plug of some sort, but this is where my thick electric wire is attached.  Is that permanent or can I pull it apart and there's really a plug there to plug that into the wall (the adapter itself I mean).  Hope I'm making myself clear.
    Thanks!

  • HT4060 I have to wiggle the plug to charge my iPad and it doesn't always work

What is the possible fix for my having to wiggle the connector to charge my iPad, and that doesn't always work?

That's not normal. You can try another cable. If the issue repeats, then it's something with your iPad. If your device is still under warranty, take it in and have it assessed. If they determine that it's a manufacturer's defect, they can replace it, but if they determine it's 'abuse or neglect' then they won't.
If your device isn't under warranty you may be eligible for an out of warranty replacement.

  • 5th gen won't charge with old power plug anymore

I have a video iPod which used to charge with no problem with my old firewire/dock cable and plug. I also used the iPod adapter with an iGo charger without problems. Since I did the most recent software update, I can't charge it with either of them; nothing happens when I plug it in. I can only charge it using the USB port and the dock (I don't have a USB power plug charger).
Does this make sense or am I missing something that would fix the problem. I'd like to be able to use the iGo when I travel, and it is connected to my laptop, so I don't know why it will no longer charge.
    Thanks!

    Same here...
If I connect to my Car Adapter it MAY shortly show the charging screen, but goes to Off mode shortly afterwards...
I think it is since the last software update.
    Sorry, can't help.

I have a problem with my iPhone 5 stopped working the sleep / power and simultaneously refused to obey the HOME button. I can not use either one or the other. I can not enable or disable the device, display lights up when you plug the charger. same display works fine as it is surprising. or maybe someone knows what is the reason for this? is there any way to solve this problem?

More than likely its a hardware issue, I have never encountered such a problem and best bet is to just go get it replaced. If you have insurance on your device apple will replace it as long as there was no water damage, if you dont have insurance they will charge $200 more or less. Hope you get it fixed

  • Just got a new IPAD3, straight out of the box, but I cant charge it, I have tried with the power plug and cable out of the box but no joy, i have tried resetting the iPad but still no joy, have tried different plug sockets, different plugs/cables, help

Just got a new IPAD3, straight out of the box, but I cant charge it, I have tried with the power plug and cable out of the box that came with it but no joy, i have tried resetting the iPad but still no joy, have tried different mains plug sockets around the house with no joy, I have tried different USB mains plugs but again no joy, I tried using my new iPad cable into the USB port of my MacBook Pro laptop but still no joy, then, I tried using my old iPod classic cable into my MacBook Pro and that worked, so I have a way of charging my new iPad3 but its not practical as i have to take my MacBook Pro everywhere if I want to charge it which kind of defeats the object of having an iPad, has anybody experienced anything similar and how was it fixed? can anybody help me please...

    Grumpy Gator,
Please note it did say at the store's discretion, but people have actually been able to return it to the on-line store. (I only saw a couple who tried.)
And given the outcry, I would think Apple might have other Apple stores join in. Just in case, though, if you can, you might bring it in today.
If it's an ARS, my guess is they can stick to their 14 day return. Apple cannot force them to do it. SO if it's not bought directly from Apple, and it's past the 14 day deal, I'd bring it in to the store today if you have one. When I gave people the cnet.com site, I gave it so people could read it and know only Apple had made the decision for Apple. And I suggested to some that an Apple reseller would probably stick with their own return policy.
Because Arnie had just bought his, he should be able to return it to Apple or an ARS because an ARS has to have some kind of full refund or at least return for credit within 7 or 14 days of purchase.
    Hope this helps.

    Hi,
    Try resetting your iPod:  http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1430.
If that doesn't work, try restoring it:  http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1414.
If all else fails, you will have to place your iPod in Recovery Mode:  http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1808.

  • I am having difficulty charging my mini pad - have tried through computer and power plug

any help appreciated with charging difficulties with mini ipad - have tried using computer and also power plug - any help appreciated

Could be the charger, cable or iPad. Plug the USB cable into your computer. It may say "Not Charging", however, it is charging slowly and will verify that the cable is good.
Try this first - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.)
The quickest way (and really the only way) to charge your iPad is with the included 10W or 12W (5W on Mini) USB Power Adapter. iPad will also charge, although more slowly, when attached to a computer with a high-power USB port (many recent Mac computers) or with an iPhone Power Adapter (5W). When attached to a computer via a standard USB port (2.5W, most PCs or older Mac computers) iPad will charge very slowly (but iPad indicates not charging). Make sure your computer is on while charging iPad via USB. If iPad is connected to a computer that’s turned off or is in sleep or standby mode, the iPad battery will continue to drain.
Apple recommends that once a month you let the iPad fully discharge & then recharge to 100%.

At this link http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/galaxy-tab-android-tablet,3014-11.html , tests show that the iPad 2 battery (25 watt-hours) will charge to 90% in 3 hours 1 minute. It will charge to 100% in 4 hours 2 minutes. The new iPad has a larger capacity battery (42 watt-hours), so using the 10W charger will obviously take longer. If you are using your iPad while charging, it will take even longer. It's best to turn your new iPad OFF and charge over night. My ipod touch 4th gen will not turn on, i have held the power and home buttons, i have plugged my ipod into itunes and tried again, yet nothing happens, what should i do?

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try another cable
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • Is it OK to leave the power plugged in when the computer is fully charged?

I often have my MacBook Pro on my desk and it's a pain charging it up then running it down all the time. Would it be OK to just leave the power plugged in all the time? Is it bad for the battery or not?

  • I have the ipad3,and I plug my charger in to charge my ipad and it comes up with the charging battery sign charges for a few minuets and then the white apple sign loads up into the screen then my ipad goes dead again,I hope someone can help:)

I have an ipad 3, when I plug my charger in the ipad comes up with the sign to say it is charging and then the apple sign loads up as if the ipad is about to come on,but then the ipad just goes dead again,I've tried holding both buttons down and I have also tried charging it over night but still nothing is working.
    I hope someone could help:)

When you say you tried holding both buttons, did you mean you held both the power and home buttons until the apple logo appeared, ignoring the red slider if that appears?  If so, exactly what happens?
You may need to take the iPad and charger to an Apple store genius bar to be tested by the techicians.

  • If I always have my MB Pro plugged into the power adapter. . . .

If I always have my MB Pro plugged into the power adapter, will my battery still wear out as it would if I were depleting and recharging it daily?
I tend to find a power outlet anywhere that I go in order to run my MB Pro on the adapter rather than using battery power. It's a habit that formed while using my 6 year old Powerbook G4 with about 5 minutes of battery life per full charge.
I understand that it shouldn't wear out to the same extent as running the battery down constantly, but is there still a significant effect?
Does the adapter bypass a full battery and power the computer directly?
I feel like an idiot asking this question, but I am really curious.
Thanks in advance for your responses.
