Have to unplug/replug USB cable to HP3300mfp

Purchased new Intel iMAC and upgraded to 10.4.10. HP3300 mfp worked with old system, and works with new system - IF you unplug/replug USB cable each time you start up computer, wake the computer from sleep, or after not using the printer for a while even though using the computer. Tried reinstalling driver, resetting printers in Print Utility, turning printer off/on, etc. Printer shows in System Profile. At least we found how to make it work - just an aggravation. Suggestions appreciated.

I'm experiencing the same thing lately. Frustrating and unable to backup to my iDisk. Doesn't appear to be being caused by my ISP (comcast) which is surprising.

  • Lost Air Disks. Constantly have to unplug/replug USB hard drive.

Unplugging/replugging it in seems to resolve the problem, but that's not good for hard drives.
I have a WD Passport plugged into the Airport Extreme.
It does this on my 15" MBP, my 27" iMac and my Mac Pro. On other words, every Mac on the network.

That's a portable, right? Does it have it's own power supply? If not, you need a powered USB hub, as the Extreme doesn't provide much power to the USB port. See [Uses for the USB port of Time Capsule, AirPort Extreme, AirPort Express|http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2421?viewlocale=en_US].
Even if it does have it's own power supply, you may need a powered hub, especially for larger drives.

I presume that you mean that the switches do not light up as appropriate when you select a Patch in MS?
If so, in Layout Mode, select each of the buttons in turn, and check that they are a) Assigned to the correct MIDI CC number etc, and b) that "Send Value to" has the correct Port selected.

Some of the Dock connector cables have very small buttons on the rounded adge of the plug, which need to be pushed in to release the plug from the iPod. Look at the picture below, do you notice the "button" on the white connector edge? There's one on the other edge too and they both need to be pressed in to release the "evil looking spike" sticking out of the grey edge.
The shorter plugs (that I've seen) do not have the release mechanism, the plug simply pulls out.

    Axel,
I'm afraid a new SSD won't be different from your bad USB stick. I had similar issues over USB with both a (no-brand) stick and TWO 64gb Kingston SSDNow's (running Kubuntu 12.04 with Kernel 3.11, ia_64): it all runs exceptionally well (wanna know how it feels like booting in 5 sec?) for a few days - then suddenly you find yourself facing that dreaded (initramfs) prompt. You ask yourself: why? Did I upgrade grub lately? Did I upgrade the Kernel? I don't recall so. Ok, let's fix this... insert favorite live cd, boot, fsck...what???? THOUSANDS of errors??? Hundreds of files and directories corrupted, and the system is unusable - Reinstall everything from scratch onto another drive.
Rinse and repeat: did this 3 times. Then I found this analysis:
    http://lkcl.net/reports/ssd_analysis.html
I also suspect USB power interrupts more abruptly than SATA power, at shutdown - basically aggravating any power interruption damages. So now I'm going to:
    - buy an Intel S3500!
    - add commit=1 to my mount options in /etc/fstab
    - edit shutdown procedure to add a 5-10 sec pause after unmounting drives.
    Just my two cents.

  • IPod will not sync unless I replug USB cable

I cannot figure out what I am doing wrong. I plug in my iPod to my WindowsXP machine and iTunes connects to it just fine. All my music/movies sync and when it's done it ejects the iPod to the charging screen.
If I make changes to my music and tell it to sync again, it says it cannot find the iPod. I must unplug the USB and replug it and then it syncs just fine.
If anyone could provide some assistance it would be appreciated!

  • Unplugging the USB Cable

I'm having problems unpluging the USB from my iPod Nano. The thing just won't budge unless I get lucky.
Is there a little trick to make the calble slide out or am I just not pulling hard enough?

Are you squeezing the sides of the plug, not the long sides the narrow sides? Its like a button on the side that will pull in the little hook like things on the plug.

  • G4 MDD won't boot unless unplug/replug power cable

This is sort of a continuation of this thread:  https://discussions.apple.com/thread/2538429
I seem to be having a problem many have seen.  When I shut down my G4/MDD, it won't power back up unless I unplug and replug the power cable.
I have replace the system battery and reset PMU.  Any other ideas?
Could the power supply or power button/board be problematic?

I think it's more likely the PSU, but the Logic Board is what everything connects to...

  • I can no longer print using wifi. I have to connect a USB cable to print. Setup and pref show that I should be able to print wireless but I keep getting printer not found msg when trying.

I can no longer print via wifi. I could at one time but now I have to connect to printer with USB. All settings appear correct in printer and macbook. Sys pref shows printer with green light next to idle. Sending a print prompt results in "searching for printer, printer not found, ensure printer is turned on". I have reinstalled printer in my print list and reinstalled printer software on macbook. Kodak 5250 AiO printer shows it's configured for and on wifi channel. I go online with laptop using wireless but cannot print. Help!

If you know the IP address of the printer, then you can check if there is a working path between the Mac and printer. This can be done using Network Utility or a web browser.
If you open Network Utility and select the Ping tab, you can enter the IP address of the Kodak and then press the Ping button. If there is a working connection then you should get a reply to each packet sent.
With the web browser, many devices have a built-in web server so you can type the IP address of the printer into the browser and if there is a working connection then you will open the printers web page.
So, are you able to confirm you have a working connection between the Mac and printer?

  • Unplugging the USB cable from the Handheld.

Everything has gone smooth. Synchronization a problem. But I cannot get the cable out of the handheld. I have pulled. pressed. pushed. It will not come out. Brand new and I don't want to break it. Is there a secret to getting the cable to disengage? Thanks for any help.

    ALMEYER,
There are no official Palm stores you can take your device to for help with your issue.
You may be able to go to a local best buy or a retailer that has a service dept. to see if they can help you with removing the cable. You can also check with a local computer store to see if they can help also.
You should be able to disengage the cable by using the method in the previous post.

  • I got an itouch in January and it is no longer charging.  I have tried plugging the usb cable into the adaptor and charging in in the outlet and have also tried charging it by plugging it into the usb port on my laptop.  Can anyone help?  Thanks.

My itouch won't charge.  I keep getting a warning that the battery is running low.  When I plug it in nothing happens. Thanks.

  • I do not have audio output when my guitar to usb cable is plugged into my ipad

I have a guitar to USB cable, I have the USB adapter for my iPad. I am trying to record my guitar in garageband, when the guitar to USB cable is plugged in I cannot hear anything, not even the metronome. If I try to playback what I recorded I cannot hear it, even with headphones. I unplug the cable and I can hear. I don't know what I am missing so that I can hear my guitar through the amp while I am recording.

Nope. Only the steps stated in the support document where you posted your query.

  • Z87-G45 - my USB audio device doesn't up after booting. Need to USB cable unplug

I have new Z87-G45 with clear Windows 7, newest drivers and last bios but still have the same problem. I have Roland Quad-Capture USB audio interface but it doesn't up with Windows. USB LED on the device is not lit anytime from when I push power button till the system is up. The only way is to unplug the USB cable and plug it again. It is very irritable. Please help me to resolve this problem.

Below is the quote from Amazon website hope that it somehow helps, you could find it in the amazon feedback from other user:
I called Roland tech support who were very friendly and concerned. But what it boiled down to was that the Roland drivers do not interact very well with certain computers. Tech support did not know why. They just kept telling me to update my usb drivers, even though when I ran updates my drivers came up as the most current available. Now, I have an eMachines, Windows 7, 64 bit PC with 8 meg ram, and I know eMachines are not high end. But the computer is less than 2 years old, and seems to run fast and I have liked it. When I told tech support that my drivers came up current, he recommended that I contact the manufacturer. I don't know if you have ever tried to get tech support on a computer that is more than a year old. It's a joke, no one will help you unless you pay them almost enough to buy a new computer.
After more research, I found that many people had the same problem that I had. If they booted up their computer with the interface plugged in, they would run into all kinds of issues. The workaround is to always make sure your unit is unplugged before you boot up.

  • I have a picture of a USB cable to the iTunes logo.

I have picture of a USB cable goint to the iTunes logo on my screen.  It is locked on that.  I assume it wants me to sync to iTunes but I am on the road away from my Mac.  How do I get this to work?  Is there a way to reset my ipad?

You will have to connect to iTunes with a computer somehow or the iPad will be non functional.
I assume that you have been using the iPad - meaning that it hase been activated - and that this is an issue that just came about.

  • Disconnecting USB cable from E51/notebook PC

I'm using PC Suite ver 7.1.18.0 with Windows XP Professional and connecting my E51 to the notebook PC via a DKE-2 USB cable. All functions work perfectly (at least those I want), but a previous version of PC Suite gave me the standard "Safely Remove USB Mass Storage Device" function on the Start Bar. Since updating PC Suite including the latest drivers, I no longer get this icon. The only way of disconnecting the phone from the PC is by just removing the cable and I have always been under the impression that this can damage the USB device. Is closing PC Suite before disconnecting sufficient to avoid damage to my phone?

You could also try these steps before unplugging your usb cable from your pc:
    1. click the safely remove hardware (green arrow pointing down) found on the right portion of the taskbar.
    2. select the usb cable
    3. then click stop (once you click stop, it informs you that you could now safely remove your usb cable from your pc.)
As for unhooking your N70 from the usb cable, the suggestion from previous messages is the best way which is by gently bending it downwards.
    Hope this helps.
