Have to unwire computer everytime laptop goes into standby

My laptop has an automatic setting to go into standby mode every thirty minutes or so. I come back turn it back on and my wireless connection is lost. So I connect the laptop to the back of my WRT54GS router and run unwire this computer again and again. Is there a way that it will stay connected?

is your laptop running on windows xp or vista?
automatically a laptop should save the network that it tried to connect to, so when you boot up your computer it should automatically connect to the chosen network right. how about adding your network in the system or manually adding up your network to your saved networks and removing all the other networks that you don't use...

  • Unable to restore screen when laptop goes into power saving mode

Toshiba Satellite M45 running MS Windows XP, When laptop goes into powersaving mode and screen goes black, if i do not move the mouse in a nanosecond I am unable to restore the screen. Try my ususal fix of pressing the now amber mechanical start button, but I only hear the computer start to whir, but the black screen continues.  I have to do a hard close and consequently loose all unsaved data. Then do a mechanical start and return to the desk top with a message that the computer programs where not closed properly.
I have been told I need to change the power saving mode options. Is this correct? How do I do this?  Thanks,  Blooming

I tired to do a system restore for two different dates and got a message that MS was unable to restore to that/those dates. - no explanation.
Linda, sometimes the restore points get corrupted. The fix is to turn System Restore off and then on again. Unfortunately, that removes all the previous restore points.

I have just started to use Muse for our design agency and learning how to build ourselves a new site, I have managed to create a basic lightbox which contains sliding images, what I need to do now is have a pop up window which goes into detail about the projects, what I would like is a piece of text  or icon that when you roll over it and then click a separate window pops up with additional information in, once finished reading the info you can then click to close the box, any advice on how to do this?

The best way to do what you're asking is with the Composition widget. Start with the Tooltip preset, which, by default shows the info on rollover. You can change the option to show on click, which is what you're after. You can also add the close button or have the info disappear on rollout.

  • My 3050 J610 printer goes into standby or sleep mode and then I cannot print docs to it wirelessly

Everytime I do not print something for a few hours, my printer goes into standby or sleep mode.  When it does this, it cannot be used to print from my laptop or android to it.  Is there a way to set this up so that it doesn't "go to sleep" and it is always available to me to print with.  I like the printer, but it seems kind of off that you cannot print on it wirelessly and it is considered a WIRELESS printer.  That's the only reason I bought it and now I can't even use it without walking downstairs and turning the printer back on again.  If I wanted to do that every time I would just print from my main computer!
    Thanks,
    Ashley

Ok, I know this thread is a little old, but it would not allow me to start a new one, since I am new. I am having the same issues with my 3050 J610 as everyone else. It makes you think there is a wireless connection problem, but that is not the case. The printer goes into a standby mode and there is no way to bring it out of it, unless you cycle the printer. The panel buttons will still work, you just lose the ability to print wirelessly.
I have had my 3050 J610 in two different rooms, master bedroom and basement office. Both areas work well when it is connected and awake. After a while of inactivity, it goes into standby mode and cannot print wirelessly. Here are steps I have taken so far:
When the printer goes into standby and will not print wirelessly, I have check to make sure there is still a connection between the router and the printer - There is
I have set a static Id for the printer at .210
Cycling the printer brings the connection back instantly.
The front panel buttons work just fine when it does not have connectivity
In the basement, the machine has excellent signal and connection.
I have checked the recommendations in this thread, and like others, there are no options under the advanced tab of the maintenance page. The problem is a standby or sleep issue. When this arises, it has connection to the router, but the wireless computer does not have connection to the machine. I know when it was in the bedroom, the light would blink 3 or 4 times now and then throughout the night. We need a way to turn off the standby, or bring the machine out of standby mode. It is not an issue of the router, channel, interference, or software. It is the sole issue of standby or sleep modes. I have been pulling my hair out for almost two years over this issue. I swore I would not buy another HP product after the problems I had with a printer and laptop. But I thought I would give HP another chance.

  • My new macbook pro retina randomly goes into standby mode

My new macbook pro retina randomly goes into standby mode. I have to close the screen and wait a few seconds and re-open it in order for it to come back on.
Sometimes it immediately goes back into standby mode again after closing and reopening the screen. I have checked the battery level everytime, and it has never been below 40% when this occurs. Is this a Mountain Lion issue?

    Well I fixed my problem.
I took it into the Apple store. Even without the other two monitors they were able to recreate the problem. One symptom (I had) was that one of the Hot Corners was set to Disable screen saver. If you then put your cursor there, you'd go into screen saver mode. Change the setting to another corner and the problem follows you there.
The Apple person at the Genius bar logged out as me and back in as test and same problem. He tried some stuff and finally said I needed to wipe the drive and reinstall the OS (Lion). I'd only had the machine for 12 hours and had just migrated my data to it, so I didn't mind doing that. I did it at home.
    Problem solved.
BUT... then I reinstalled the driver for my EVGA UV Plus 19 (most current drivers) and bingo problem back. Uninstall. Problem gone. I'm now using mini display port to DVI for one monitor and HDMI for the other I think the machine is a bit warmer this way (versus using a USB to the EVGA device) but at least it's not sleeping all the time. Someone might say "it (the heat) is your imagination" or something else. Or someone might say "use the other thunderbolt port for another mini-display port to DVI" but I need that for the LAN... c'est la vie.
Maybe I'll write to evga and see what they say. Maybe they'll fix their driver and/or Apple will fix it.

  • T400 goes into standby right after being woken from standby

Hi, I have a T400. When I wake it up from standby by pressing the Fn key, it wakes up, then automatically goes into standby again. I can still wake it using the Fn key but I am afraid it  might be stuck in a loop.
Any ideas where the bug could be?

My iPhone turns off whenever it goes into standby mode and has to be turned back on to work

That's normal behavior. It turns off automatically in order to preserve the battery. Pushing the On/Off button turns it on immediately. This also requires entering the passcode and prevents the phone from being accessed by anyone but you.

  • Satellite P10 automatically goes into Standby after 15 minutes

My Satellite P10 automatically goes into Standby after 15 minutes. This is a setting that is controlled by the Toshiba Power Management settings, or the Toshiba Console.
When I change the settings there the system still goes into Standby after 15 minutes. When I go to Control Panel/Performance and Maintenance/Power Options, it tells me to go to the Toshiba Power Management to change the settings, but I can still see the settings in grey stating 15 minutes standby time.
But in the Toshiba Power Management I can't seem to be able to ajust Standby settings so that they actually work. There must be a trick to it..
Can anyone help me figure it out?
    Thanks a lot,
    Lerak

Thank you for your replies. As I now understand it there are 3 power management utilities fighting for control of the power management settings:
    1) The windows OS power options("Power Option Properties, from the control panel/performance and maintenance/power options);
    this utility is overridden by:
    2) Toshiba Power management;
    and
    3) the "power save modes", activated by pressing the Function key and the F2 key, which in turn can override the Toshiba Power management.
If this last Function/F2 combination is used to change the power save modes, the windows OS power settings (which are shown in grey and cannot be changed because this is overridden by the Toshiba Power management) DO actually change.
Hold down the Function key (Fn) and press F2, holding down the Fn key. Each time you then press the F2 key again you scroll down the different "Power Schemes". The last mode is called: Toshiba Power Management. One would think that by choosing this setting the Toshiba Power management utility would effectively take over control of the power settings. Unfortunately this does not seem to be the case..
At least using this last option provides a workaround. Some of the "Power Schemes" disable the standby options.

  • Phone goes into standby and wont turn off after update!!! please help me as hate it

On Friday I turned my phone off as per usual and turned back on in the morning to find the phone totally different.
The red lock button now only sends the phone into like a sleep mode, and i cant find any where to turn it off.
The screens keep fading down and I have re set the backlight to not dim but some thing is over riding it.
I used to love my phone and now hate it so much, is there a way of booting this update off my phone and putting it back to how it was. I tried to restore and its the same and then tried to put the phone back to previous settings I had stored on my lap top but again nothing.
I now have some new blackberry software on the lap top too which now does not even recognise my phone and there for the past restore points I had.
My daughters bold 9700 does the same thing now too, please please help

    Hiya!
Blackberry doesnt actually "turn off" it only goes into a standby mode (press and hold the end call button). To fully power it down, you would perform a battery pull.

  • 8900 keeps going into standby and the only way to unlock is to press the power button?

    Hi,
I Recently had my T-Mobile blackberry unlocked for my wife to use.  It is now on Virgin.  I have upgraded the software and everything is working well with the exception that the phone keeps going into some kind of stand by.  It isn't the normal keypad lock,  the unlock button wont unlock it, you have to press the red power button for a few seconds to wake it up.
It appears to be on a timer as it locks after about 2 minutes and goes to a black screen.  It will happen in the middle of typing a text or whatever you are doing and when you press the power button to unlock it, it then takes you back to the home screen.. Very annoying!
I have gone through all the options and cant find anything to stop it.  The auto on/off if off.  Password is disabled with security time out set to 30 mins.
    Any help would be appreciated
    Thanks

Managed to sort the problem by roling back the software to version 4.6.1

  • IPod goes into standby and immediately wakes without unlucking it

I have some iPods which I can't always put in standby the first time.
When i press the topmost button it goes in standby for about a second and then it wakes again
I have a few iPods (all touch 5g) on which this occurs.
Other symptoms of these devices are:
Takes 10 - 15 seconds after wake from standby before touch is reactive.
After a hard reset (holding both buttons until Apple logo appears) reopens previously closed apps
iPod hangs from time to time, even with no apps opened
There is 10Gb + available on the device so this should available space should not be a problem
Is there anything I can change in settings to solve this?

    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:
iOS: Back up and restore your iOS device with iCloud or iTunes
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem, make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.

  • Macbook Pro goes into Standby Randomly

    Hey Guys,
One of the Mac's we use is an old-ish Macbook Pro - 2.16GHz Intel Core Duo, running 10.5.8.
It had a major HD drive problem quite a few months ago now - a clean install was done and everything has been fine (other than standard old slow mac problems
A few days ago however, while being used (it gets used everyday for numerous hours) the screen shut off - it simply went into standby mode - when the space key was then pressed it came back on. After 5 or so minutes it did the same thing again, and then again after a minute. It seems rather inconsistent, as after leaving it off for a while it did it again, but then after not touching it for a while it was fine. It has done this over the last couple of days on off, one thing to note is the light flashes on the front just as if in standby mode and hitting a key works. Other times the light does not flash and hitting a key does not work, shutting the lid and waiting for it to flash works however.
It does seem to be doing it more and more, it even does it on startup - after the apple screen it will show the desktop for a second then go into standby mode (again this is inconsistent - doesn't happen every time)
I have done the usual HD verify - found no issues but repaired anyway, and verify/repair permissions but to no joy.
Any help/thoughts on this matter will be greatly appreciated
    Thanks,
    Simon

What do you mean by this sentence exactly.....top off?
    Any ideas?
I would post in the MacBook Pro late 2008, 2009 usage forum. Might be hardware related and they know your Mac best.
If you have one earlier then that, post in the Original MacBook Pro usage forum. In the meantime try a SMC reset again as it controls sleep, wake, shutdown and more.
