Have you been contacted about an $80 credit?  It's a scam.

My daughter alerted me to a call she received from Verizon telling her that we had an $80 credit and just to log in to receive it.
Today, I just received a phone call (robo-call from phone number 800-922-1212) claiming that it was from Verizon and because I was such a good customer I could save $80 on my next bill by logging onto www.Verizon80.com.  When I tried to call back the number it was not in service.  When I looked on the official VerizonWireless.com website there was no warning but also no such program.
I typed in the URL that they had given on the message and Chrome warned me that it was a Phishing website.  Just trying to trick people into giving away their account information.  I wanted to warn others.  This is a Scam!
Others reported on http://whocallsme.com/
"I went to that address, and it looks very ligit -- a big Present with a place to put your phone number/password/last 4 of SS# and make it ligit looking by making you put in a phishing code. PLEASE, DO NOT TO THIS -- IT IS A SCAM!! I called Verizon to verify its legitimacy and confirmed it IS a new SCAM."

Agreed. I just received a call as well saying the exact same thing, except this on told me to go to www.verizon36.com
Came from the Verizon customer service number just like yours. What got me thinking for a moment that it *might* be real, is because I am currently using the prepaid services, but my phone is currently off and the fact that I still received the phone call is what go me thinking.
But yes, another scam. Thanks for the share.

  • How long have you been a Verizon customer?

How long have you been a Verizon customer?

    Hi there!
According to /var/log/pacman.log, I've got Arch installed more than a year now (my laptop's age).
    [04/23/07 10:59] synchronizing package lists
Since then, I never had to reinstall the system.
I started using Fluxbox, then switched to Gnome, and I'm currently using XFCE. Since I'm curious about KDE4, I'll be switching to it when 4.1 hits the repos.
Concerning the kernel upgrades, I custom compile my own, and never had troubles what so ever.
I've got tree other machines running Arch. One headless server, and two workstations. All in the same situation (installed once, and updated once in a while).
    You can't beat rolling release!

    thanks,

What is the advice to turn off laptops based
    on?
    Unnecessary heat generation.
Even a sleeping laptop generates some heat.
    Heat kills batteries.
I actually meant "shut down" or "restart", not "turn off" - sorry. You can have the power off with hibernation or suspend to disk - then what is the advantage of shutting down?
But anyway, how much heat does a sleeping laptop generate? Surely it can't change the battery's temperature very much from room temperature? I doubt very much it is enough heat to be battery killing - particularly compared with MBP operating temperatures! So I think that point isn't true.
I could imagine that leaving a laptop sleeping all the time might reduce battery longevity a little for another reason. If you left it sleeping on battery, then it'd be using the battery, which would wear it out more than not using it. But that must be a slight effect. If you left it plugged in, then the battery would be charged up or be kept near 100% charge (or whatever it is that happens these days), and I suppose that would also have a slight effect on the life of the battery. But surely those effects would be dwarfed by those of actually using the battery in the computer during the day!
And what about the power used to boot the machine? I wonder how that compares to the power used overnight during sleep. I guess sleep uses more power, but I don't have any figures.

  • Have you been getting timeouts and other weird connection issues lately?

Internet connection has become a bit wonky as of late, have you been experiencing some or all of the following symptons?
    1) Most internet speed test sites just stop before completing as if they have timed out (i.e. speedtest.net).
    2) Sites will start loading quickly but then sometimes randomly stop and have to be manually refreshed.
    3) Downloads will randomly stop downloading for some moments before resuming (particularly from Steam)
    4) Tracert to some websites that were causing issues show timeouts on peering with Alter.net servers.
Looks like there are some issues between Verizon and Alter.net (formerly MCI, now Verizon owned) in NY.... Any word on when we can expect a resolution? This is quite frustrating as it affects a good amount of traffic.

I'm a little further east than you out here on Long Island, Touyats, but I've seen none of the issues you or the Original Poster here are experiencing.
Assuming you're having the problems on a device connected to your router by Ethernet cable (WiFi opens up an entire range of other possible problems) you might try getting your router assigned a new WAN IP address.
If you want to give that a try, see this post for the steps involved:

  • Have you been having problems with ipod nano 3rd gen?

Have you been having problems with your ipod nano 3rd gen? got a windows xp computer? is your pc not recognizing it? I think i may have the solution. After 2 2 hour calls to apple tech support they were stumped. we reset it again and again, reinstalled itunes again and again. and they had no solution for me. I went to my device managerand there was a device called (apple Ipod USB driver) with a yellow exclamation point. I tried updating driver but to no avail. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling and nothing. But then I had an epiphany. I went to the device manager right clicked the apple ipod usb device clicked properties then update driver. Hardware wizard went up and I chose not to install automatically. and i chose to install driver manually. and then I installed a generic usb mass storage driver in its place and presto!!! it worked! it was instantly recognized by itunes and it took me to the registration page. I did what the apple support team wasn't able to do for 4 hours. I wonder if they're accepting applications... Anyway i hope this helps anyone out there cause i know i went through a lot of stress.

the driver is just a regular usb mass storage driver. it's in your computer. it's just a matter of installing it manually where it saya to include the location of the driver click browse and choose c:\windows\system32

  • Have you been successful porting your number and keeping unlimited data?

Hi , I am trying to save money by getting rid of my texting plan($20) and having Google Voice as my SMS provider. I want to keep my number so I will port my number to GV. For a 1-time fee of $20. The Problem is that during the process some people lose their UNLIMITED DATA package. I, of course don't want this to happen. I have searched the interwebs and found that this forum had the good information on it.
    https://community.verizonwireless.com/thread/779321?start=0&tstart=0
    https://community.verizonwireless.com/thread/779321?start=80&tstart=0
See post # 3 and # 85 for detailed instructions. I was in the process of doing it but Google Wallet denied my transaction because I needed to verify my account. This process takes 3 days. So I will wait and try again. I would like to know if the rest of the verizon community has been succesful or has regretted doing this.
I feel that this process should work and would like to keep this discussion open so other people can do the same. We all know sms and voice mins are cheap and carriers are just milking money from data plans.
PS. I felt # 85 was really straight forward
Joined the community to thank the OP - and to add in another success story. Before I start my 'experience share', I think its pertinent to mention that I have the Galaxy S4 [Android]
Started the GV Port on Monday at about 3PM. Provided GV with personal details, phone number, billing PIN (you can set one up or change your current PIN on the VZW website after logging on to your account) and my account number (excluded the -00001 after my account number as suggested by other posters on this thread). Google charged me $20 to complete the port.
On Tuesday morning, approximately at about 11AM, I logged into my VZW account and requested a new number (VZW's website states that this process is free if done online). At this time, my GV Port status showed "Number Change Pending". Once the new number was assigned to me by VZW (the number is issued instantly), I had to turn my phone off and wait a few minutes before turning it back on. When I turned my phone back on, it showed that the new number was active (no VZW notifications - just tried a test call from my landline).
Almost 24 Hours down to the minute (so at about 3PM on Tuesday), I got an email from GV stating that my port was complete. On the GV website, I then added in my new number (under Settings>Phones), and set all calls (and texts) to forward to my new number. GV walked me through a couple of programming steps - and confirmed that my GV calls would be forwarded to my new VZW number. Please note that if you want GV to pick up your VM's, then you will need to activate Google voicemail on the GV website (Settings>Phones). Else, VZW voicemail will end up picking up your calls - and a message like "this user has a VM box that has not been set up" will play.
I also opened up the GV app on my phone and changed the settings to "Make all calls through Google Voice". Also, I turned off the 'Messaging' app, and set the GV app as the default app for handling all texts.
As of now, I can make and receive calls via the setup described above. Folks receiving calls from me see my GV number on their displays (so no need to update folks with my new number), and when I receive calls on my GV number, my VZW phone displays the number of the person trying to reach me (so no updating my contacts list). Low priced international calls, desktop-based texting, unlimited storage of texts/VM's/call-logs, here I come!
My texts arent working yet, but GV states that it takes about 3 days before texting becomes active. When it does, I'm hoping that all texts will be routed via the GV app (I'm fairly certain that it will)
    Other things to note:
Banking Apps: Some banking apps that require verification codes to be sent via text might stop working. I just got an email from BOFA this morning asking me to reverify my mobile number. Need to fix this once GV texting becomes active
Messaging: Existing texts on your device cannot be backed up/imported into GV. That said, Google Play has a couple of free apps that backup your entire message archive under a separate label within your Gmail account
Hope this helps someone else out there in taking the plunge. Seems like the process is fairly straightforward unless you decide to skip some steps or if you are impatient and try to change things too quickly (I would really urge you against skipping steps, hurrying things up, etc. GV is completely automated, and getting "support" is almost impossible).
    All the best!"

You won't lose your unlimited data as long as your account stays active and you don't purchase a subsidized phone. I just did this yesterday and it took just a few minutes over 24 hours to port my number over to GV. I still have unlimited data. I pretty much followed the instructions you have above except I waited about 7 hours to get a new number from VZW just to make sure there were no hiccups. VZW says you may get some overages if you change your number immediately as opposed to on the first day of your billing cycle because they prorate your minutes and texts used. Luckily I have unlimited everything so it didn't make a difference for me. I'm planning on going over to T-Mobile. My home is a dead zone for cell phones and I always have a weak signal and sometimes don't get my calls. I figure if I'm going to pay for an unsubsidized phone, I might as well go with a company that has wifi calling and a cheaper unlimited plan. I pay $94/mo before taxes with VZW; I'll only be paying $59.50 with T-Mobile for the same plan with 2.5 GB tethering included. T-Mobile here in LA is pretty good and even if I don't get LTE, I can fall back on their HSPA+ network, which is way better than VZW's crippled 3G network. No regrets porting over. The ONLY way I'll stay with VZW is if they allow me to keep my unlimited data (not going to do Verizon Max) and get a subsidized phone. CAN YOU HEAR ME NOW VERIZON?

  • What have you been using with you palm devices?

I have a new macbook and was using my palm tungsten with a PC. What do most of you use, the palm desktop or the mac address book and ical? I know palmdesktop and am considering just keeping that. but with a new mac I feel like taking advantage of its software. I also use 3rd party software for my palm, like epocrates, avantgo, documents to go, etc.
Please, let me know what you find easy to use, what you prefer, and any limitaions.
I like the idea of using the mac address book to use in applications on the mac, like wordprocessing etc..but i don't want things to get complicated with my palm...curently m palm is set up the way I like it......
    Any thoughts?

Synchronization is a centralized service under Mac OS X 10.4 unlike what it was in previous releases, but you don't see the 'core' of the Sync Services framework. It appears 'de-coupled' but is actually more highly integrated than ever. What you see is components like iSync and .Mac Sync.
This Apple Developer document explains how the Sync Services framework operates:
    http://developer.apple.com/macosx/syncservices.html
Sync Services is the future of synchronization. Many—if not most—applications which synchronize, now do so using this framework. The Palm Desktop is a notable exception: it is not now (and never will be) Sync Services aware. So moving away from it to the Address Book/iCal/iSync approach, or using the Missing Sync with the Address Book and iCal instead, both make much more sense.
Additionally, the Address Book is integrated into Mail, and if you intend to use mail rather than Entourage, you should synchronize the Address Book using either iSync or the Missing Sync, as there are no explicit links between the Palm Desktop and Mail. You can export Palm Desktop contacts as a vCard file for import into the Address Book, and calendars as a vCal file for import into iCal, but doing so on a regular basis will probably make you slightly crazy.
Mark/Space supplies their Mark/Space Contact, Event and Tasks conduits to work with the Address Book and iCal. They are far more sophisticated and flexible than the iSync Palm Conduit, and support the features of advanced Palm device databases, including contact icons and calendar colors and categories. They also provide conduits for Avant/Go and a conduit and OS X application to synchronize memos, and provide for the synchronization of ePocrates content via internet sharing.
More information about the Missing Sync for Palm OS is available here:

  • New photographer, new camera, no support in Aperture:  Have you been there?

So I can't ask when support for the EOS 450D (Canon EOS Rebel XSi) might mystically appear, because nobody ever talks about product release dates, I guess.
So let me ask the opposite question - how often have updates happened in the past? Every month? Every two months? Every six? Are they coming more frequently? If you had an unsupported camera, how long did you have to wait?
And when was the last update?
I went out and bought Aperture and the new XSi, and it never even crossed my mind to ask if it was a supported combination - I chose the camera based on the features I needed, and just assumed that Aperture would work with it.
I'm feeling a wee bit stupid, and a wee bit sore about it, especially since, par for course, I guess, it looks like it works just fine with Adobe's products.
And does anyone have any recommendations for what to do in the meantime? For now I'm using Aperture to pull in the photos, and then pulling stuff into Photomatix to do HDR (I have some lovely dreamy hallucination that maybe someday Photomatix will add a plugin for Aperture to the mix, but I guess it's not really that good of a UI fit)...
I suppose I could use hot folders to import via a tool which does the conversion externally, in the meantime - can anyone recommend what tools might be a good fit?
    Ah well.

    Adsy wrote:
The XSi (450D) is brand new. Adobe only just started supporting it a week or so ago. I expect Aperture will do so in the not too distant future.
In the meantime, you can use Adobe's free DNG converter program to convert the RAWs to DNG which can be imported into Aperture and work fine. The DNGs are still RAW, just a different format which Aperture can understand.
Agreed, but note that DNG is usually a "filter" of sorts to the true original RAW data, as is Aperture. Let's hope that Apple does indeed reduce the wait time for Aperture/RAW support for your camera. You may want to experiment with your camera vendor's free RAW converter as well.
    Good luck!

  • Have you been waiting since december for a phone l...

I was. I was making small talk with the engineer when he finally arrived today (ordered on 15th December)
'you guys must be busy at the moment'
'no, not really, they haven't sent us any provisioning requests since december'
So, the "we're really busy because of the weather" isn't exactly honest.

    Hi there,
The engineers don't have that information. That engineer means he hasn't had one in HIS queue for ages.
There have been large engineer backlogs, my friend ordered their line around the same time and got swithced on on 12th Jan.

  • Have you been billed more than your quoted price?

In December i switched my plan to 2 smartphones and 2 talk and text the manager at my reatail store told me my bill would be $155 cause i have a 22% discount and thats what i agreed to But my first bill was $207 so i called the manager and she said to pay the bill that i would be credited back the over charge the next month. it wasnt so i called vzw told them what was going on they told me the retail manager has to fix it.I went to the retail manager she said vzw has to fix it so  i called *611 again they say theres nothing they can do unless i want to drop my smartphones and go out and buy phones without the data option.so i told them why should i haft to spend more money because i was given the wrong price on my bill my bills still $174 so now im stuck with a bill i didnt agree to and cant afford!

this is why they give you 30 days to cancel the contract. i hate to say this, but you should have gone in with that first bill that didn't seem right to you, and figured it then, when you were still inside of 30 days. you could have returned the phones and canceled the contracts. the guy you spoke to was simply wrong about the pricing. it's a shame too, because they extimate these figures in their head while you are standing there, and i have yet to ever see a rep over estimate a quote. you'll NEVER hear them say "it should be about $190/month" when it's really only a total of $180. it's always the other way around.
just a thought, but if it is really going to be a problem for you, then you do have 2 fairly new smartphones that may sell for enough on ebay to cover an early termination fee.

  • Have you been in this situation

what is that mean to you if your code run okay in debug mode but not in normal execution
I have procedure in a library to show/hide some menu item
if I run the form in debug mode the menu item show/hide the way I want
but if I run it in normal execution mode the item menu did not show/hide the way I want.
so why the code executed okay in debug mode but not in run time.
    thank all

Try using the SYNCHRONIZE built-in. This forces Runtime to repaint the UI. Forms tries to be efficient and not do an entire repaint but sometimes it should redraw and it doesn't. Synchronize will force it to redraw.
    Exp:
    Show_view('xxx');
    synchronize;
