  • Windows 7 64 bit Sound Card Problem

In January 2009, we had a 64 bit operating system problem http://forums.adobe.com/message/1015026#1015026. Our software, which was published using Version 6.5, was freezing on a customer’s computer on playing the first sound file, then if the sound file was by-passed, on displaying the first swf. The problem was eventually resolved by Mike Baker publishing our a6p file in Authorware 7, and this cured the fault. So we upgraded to Authorware 7.02 and since then no further problems ... until December 2010.
We launched our Italian Course late November and had a not dissimilar sort of problem reported by a customer. He's tried uninstalling & re-installing the software but the fault keeps re-occurring. The computer displays a "not responding" message. Debugging, we discovered that the message appears when trying to play the initial mp3 file (fixed bit rate) … the program does eventually continue but without playing the sound file. It then keeps hanging (there are thousands of sound files in our course), and none of the sound files play: text & pictures are displaying normally. Eventually the program freezes and has to be killed with ctrl+alt+delete.
The computer in question is a Dell Inspiron 580s, & the operating system Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit. I’m awaiting details of the sound card & confirmation that his drivers are up-to-date but I presume they will be (Windows 7 default is to keep drivers updated). I haven’t got the customer to carry out basic tests sound file tests yet, but he indicates no problems with Media Player or with iTunes.
Extras in our XTRAS folder include:-
    AWMP3.X32
    MIX32.X32
    MIXVIEW.X32
    NETFILE.X32
    SWADCMPR.X32
    VIEWSVC.X32
    INETURL.X32
    FLASHASSET/FLASHAST.X32
The database for our Italian course is now in ProgramData. (previous courses, database was in Program Files and run in XP compatible mode). We’re having problems with this location with Windows 7 64 bit … it is maintaining a copy in Virtual Store and updating the file there. No such problem with XP, Vista or Windows 7 32 bit. I see this as an unrelated problem. We got the customer to run the software in XP mode but the problem was not corrected.
We do have customers successfully running our software on Windows 7 64 bit operating system computers; we had a minor ODBC glitch reported recently from a 64 bit user.
    Any suggestions would be appreciated.

    Tom,
I concur with Steve that this is probably system-specific. A couple of things you may want to try:
    1. Be sure you're using the Xtras that came with Authorware 7.02 and not 6.5. For example, I believe mixview.x32 and viewsvc.x32 were updated in Authorware 7.
    2. Try making a little AW program with 4 or 5 buttons that each trigger an imported MP3 file, where each audio file has different output settings (e.g. mono vs stereo, 64kbps vs. 92 kbps, etc.). Package it up and send it to the Dell user to test it. You may stumble upon an audio output setting that works on that particular machine.

  • I need to upgrade my 10.5.1 os on my G4/1.25 (I'm having some audio-midi setup problems), but it's a machine that is not connected to the internet.  Do I have any options?  Thanks!

    Friends,
I'm having some audio-midi setup problems on my G4/1.25/10.5.1 machine.  I'm thinking that a routine OS upgrade might help.  However, this machine is not connected to the internet.  Are there any alternate methods for upgrading system software?  Thanks in advance!

OK, what you should do is download the updates on another machine and burn them to a disc.  Start at this link http://support.apple.com/downloads/#leopard for downloads and find, among other things, the 10.5.8 combo updater that works on PPC machines, plus security, QuickTime and other updates.  Going from 10.5.1 to 10.5.8, there will probably be a bunch of things that you should install.  Being off the internet with the machine, you can't have Software Update sort it out, so something might get missed, unfortunately.
My suggestion is this: if it looks like you might need a download, get it onto that disc.

It runs fine on 64 bit. I have it running on Windows 8 Pro 64 bit. Just have Quicktime installed first otherwise the install will fail. Sorry for the late reply.

On right click nothing happens at all. I have  reinstall the ODI multiple times with right installer. issue persist.
    Please help.

    Hi,
Did you use the generic installer or the win32 one ? You should use the former with Win64.
You can also check that your version of Java is supported in the certification matrix.

Jack, as Curt has suggested, available drive space comes well down the list regards a happy experience with Photoshop.   You have also asked a self-defeating question, because the fact you are running Vista, and a 32bit version at that, more or less precludes the ability to run without problems.
Windows 7 was billed as the first MS OS to need less system resources than its predecessor.  If your system hardware will support 64bit, then consider paying $90 for an OS upgrade  What is your system out of interest?  I have a feeling you are running with just 2Gb RAM, which just isn’t enough.  Post your specs or make and model, and I am sure you’ll get some help with what your mainboard will handle by way of RAM and whether it will support 64bit.

  • Got a bit of a problem with my iPod

    Hi all,
got a bit of a problem with my iPod Photo(60GB). It has the latest software on it and I have got the latest iTunes and am running it all through Windows XP.
My problem: when trying to turn the iPod on, all I get after a short start up (just before the backlight comes on) is the sad computer face. I have tried resetting it several times only to be given the same thing. I have plugged it into my computer via USB and initially I get the same thing, but when I reset it while still plugged in, it then gives the "battery low/almost depleted" sign. I have left it for long enough that I shouldn't get that (over an hour). I know the battery isn't dead cause I have gotten it on twice (yesterday) and the battery shows as almost full. It isn't long (on those 2 occasions) after starting to play songs (or plugging into the computer) that it freezes up and then, after a reset, gives the sad face again.
I am not quite sure what to do anymore. The time that it did start to go through the connecting stage with the computer, it didn't last long enough for me to get stuff off of it so I can reinstall the software from fresh.
    Anyone got any ideas?
    Many thanks
    Toshiba   Windows XP

well, despite your very helpful suggestions, when I did get the iPod into diagnostics mode, running the hard drive scan really indicated that it was hard drive failure. Anyway, I followed a few discussions about opening it up and checking, but before I even did open it up, for some reason I was tapping it (idle fingers I guess) and I randomly reset it too and yeah, well it worked. managed to get everything off and restored it.
However, I have a feeling it might be a loose connection somewhere that cause the problem so I guess I should expect it to happen again.
    Thanks anyway

  • Having a common yet unfounded problem with

    Hello
Having a common yet unfounded problem with my trackpad, or is it?
First, The trackpad has always worked just fine on my iBook Dual USB 800 MHz, like most folks I use a mouse when I am on the laptop, so i trried to use the trackpad the other day and I noticed 2 things...
It wasnt functioning and the trackpad feature was missing from system prefs mouse and key board (running OS X10.4.11)
so I haven't used my trackpad in months, i try to test it and piff! nothing...
there is one final point, hours before i chose to tes tthis the book took a tumble on its right front corner, so naturally this could be a if not the contributing factor?
    any ideas?

Did you unplug the mouse when you tried to use the trackpad? If not, I would suggest that you try that.
If the trackpad doesn't work when no mouse is plugged in, you may want to try resetting the PMU.
The PMU (Power Management Unit) controls trackpad function, so resetting it often helps when the trackpad isn't working (or isn't working right).
If the trackpad still doesn't work after resetting the PMU, chances are the fall may have something to do with the trackpad not working. If you're lucky, it may just be that its plug has jiggled loose from its connection. Detailed instructions on plugging it back in can be found in this comprehensive post by Michael Baker:

As I said, a weak or dead PRAM battery can reportedly cause odd startup issues. If it has never been changed in six years, that's a really long-lasting battery, even if the iMac was kept on continuously.
They are pretty cheap from the right source, so you may want to try changing it.

  • Vista 64 bit and itunes problem

I have been using itunes for a long time but since i installed it in my new vaio laptop with 64 bit vista i am having problems like there are multiple iT.temp files. there was a time when i had about 1800 such files which consumes a lot of space so i have to manually delete them except the last 3 or 4 files. same is the case with temp files. then again some times when i close itunes the itunes library file goes missing which leaves my itunes library washed out when i open itunes next time, so every time i close itunes i have to save a copy of the library file and before opening itunes i have to copy it to the itunes folder.

    Welcome to AD!
It's some Sony bloatware doing it. Kind of a root-kit attack on iTunes, if you will.

  • Audition 3.0 installer under Win7 64-bit fails with "problem while extracting files"

I'm having trouble installing Audition 3.0 on Windows 7 64-bit.
I downloaded an installer for Audition 3.0 (called ADBEAudition_WWEFGJIS.exe, 352 MB).
This installer runs but when the progress bar is at the far end, it raises a dialog saying "A problem occurred while extracting some files. Check available space on your computer and the write privileges on the destination folder."
At this time, the main installer dialog shows 100% completed and displays the filename "...\Audition 3.0\Adobe Bridge CS3\redist\WindowsXP-KB898715-x64-enu.exe". I don't know whether this filename is related to the problem, it might just be the last file extracted.
I'm running Windows 7 64-bit on an Asus laptop with 4GB of RAM and an AMD Turion II P520 processor. I don't know whether this CPU is "SSE2-enabled" or not, as specified in the minimum system requirements.
I've rebooted the machine and the problem occurs consistently.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Hey, I used to have a Diamond PCI card somewhere.
I would say that all bets are off with the drivers, but there is a strong possibility that you could be hearing the problems with the sample rate converter in Windows 7 (and I think in Vista). This affects recording and playback, and the first line of defence is to make sure that the source audio's sample rate is the same as the "default sample rate" that is set in every area in the Windows Control panel audio area.
The sample rate converter built into XP has a range of settings that are usually set to "high quality", and sample rate conversion is rare anyway with that OS. With Windows 7, the concept of the newer Windows mixer irequires that the sample rate converter changes all the audio on the fly to the default ample rate, but the converter is not very good. This doesn't always affect the audio - anything using DirectX seems OK, but anything using "WaveOut" audio (eg YouTube playback) is affected.
Microsoft acknowledges the problem and have issued a patch at http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2653312

  • Win 7, 64 bit USB connection problems

I'm having real problems getting my Touch to reliably connect with my new Win 7, 64 bit Dell laptop. Dell tech support says the drivers and hardware are fine. Following the troubleshooting via Apple support hasn't solved the problem. The Touch times out and/or gives me -48, -6999 messages. Plus "required file cannot be found" messages. I've updated apple drivers, uninstalled/reinstalled iTunes.
Will I have better luck moving to Win 7 32 bit?

Not quite ... the chipset is an intermediate thing on the motherboard between the processor(s) and various parts of the other business:
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chipset
I found a reference at Notebookcheck saying that the 1557 had a PM55, which was sort of why I was thinking BIOS with your issue:
[REVIEW DELL STUDIO 1557 NOTEBOOK|http://www.notebookcheck.net/Review-Dell-Studio-1557-Notebook.23009.0. html]
... but configurations can differ for Dells (and other PCs) on these things even "inside" particular models (not just ranges of models). So I'm not 100% sure that your particular 1557 has the sorts of 5-series chipsets that I worry about when I see your error messages on a Windows 7 system.

  • Bit-mapped image problem

Does anyone know how I manage to make an image bit-mapped in Illustrator 6? I think it is a key-command that I press accidentally, this happens to me occasionally as I am working quite fast and I must accidentally press a key and not notice how it happens, how can I reverse it so the image is no longer bit-mapped and save me time having to redraw the image?

I feel we are so close but missing one more hint to figure this out. Do you have any 3rd party plug ins?
Update to 16.04 alteast if you have not. I have not tested 16.05, should be ok, did not even know they opposed that. Adobe - Illustrator : For Macintosh
Edit Keyboard shortcuts > choose illustrator defaults
Review all you actions and get rid of any you do not use. I got rid of all of mine and modified the delta unused items which was the only useful one adn put that in my own set of custom actions.
That should eliminate the variable of some keyboard shortcut from Illustrator doing this
    Check your clipboard settings.
Make sure you are saving to .ai format and not .pdf. I would also recommed doing a save as and turn OFF pdf compatible (unless you are going to import into InDesign.
Can you explain in a little more detail your copy & paste process. Such as do you save the doc after you copy, basically exactly when did you notice the original source document got bitmapped, could this already have been saved this way? Can you repeat this, does this problem happen.
Keep that link palette open, as that should be a good hint to exactly when this happens. You really do not want any graphics with embedded icons for most print graphic situations.

  • Verizon iPhone having death grip signal loss problems too?

Today I am reading story after story about people having the AT&T death grip signal loss  problems on their Veirzon iPhones despite the Verizon phone having a new antenna.  Is anyone really having this problem or is it being fabricated to alter sales?

I can understand how possibly covering the antannae with your hand would drop the signal a little bit due to blocking it etc. However, I have watched the youtube video of the person giving evidence that this issue exists with the Vphone and as he was demonstrating it and showing the example, I followed along exactly as he was with my phone and it did not create the same issue at all. I tried several times downloading speed test, calling someone, openeing webpages and just simply could not recreate the issue.   Does that mean hes lying? No ,just means i suppose it is not happening to all phones.

  • Thinkpad X200 Vista Business 32-bit Wireless network problems

    Hey guys!
I seem to have a persistent problem with my two Lenovo Thinkpad X200, which I simply can't manage to figure it.
I have recently restored the computers to factory settings, which meant downgrading from Windows 8 to Windows Vista Business 32-Bit.
Now, everything with the installation went as planned until I had to test if everything was working. A lot of the drivers seem to be missing and since I do not still have the original manufacturer's disc, I do not know what to do.
I downloaded the ethernet driver from Lenovo's website and that is now fully functional.
I have also tried everything in regards to making the wireless internet work, but without any luck. When I try connecting to the wireless internet, Windows simply can't detect any networks and when I try using Windows function to find a solution to the problem it simply says "This computer does not have a wireless network adapter installed and configured".
I have tried downloading all the wireless lan driver for Windows Vista 32-bit from Lenovo's website, but I still cannot get the wireless network to work.
Any help would be highly appreciated
    Thank you in advance
