Having a "carbon" copy of my old mac to new

Hey all,
I have a question (sorry if it has been answered before but because it is kind of urgent i havent been able to search a lot). I am going to buy a new macbook pro but i would like to have the exact same utilities, applications and app licences that i already have in my current. To be more precise i am running through usb a program (through parallel) and because i have bought the licence from a company i dont want to buy it again but use it on the new one. In other words i want the new macbook to be exact the same as my old one. Is it possible or not?
Thanks in advance!!

Carbon Copy Cloner
http://www.bombich.com/
For example, I have 4 cloned Macs on 4 HD in a package only 40mm thick, and 2.5”, a very tight package perfect for recovering any of my primary Mac computers very quickly, and stored away securely in a firebox.
Some advantages of a cloned HD:
In case of an internal HD crash and failure, there is absolutely nothing quicker to getting back to 100% operation than having a HD clone handy to either boot from, or within 20 mins. installing and removing the bad HD. Nothing to install software-wise, and a speedy immediate return to your computer use and productivity.
If you do an option key startup at boot you can directly boot to your cloned drive externally and operate from same like normal.
Sandboxing: With the help of the Cloned Drive, you can perform sandboxing, or the testing of new software, their updates and applications before they are installed on your Mac system. Moreover, if there are issues with the system, you can troubleshoot them by booting off the Clone. Many people test new APPS or experiment with a secondary clone and never worry about a failure or serious issue since the internal HD is untouched and the secondary clone can be wiped afterwards if any major issue occurs in testing. This is an invaluable tool in many instances.
If you sell you computer for purchase of a new one, you can take the clone you have on hand and install same or clone it to the new internal drive of your new Mac.
As it turns out one of the huge positive benefits of a clone is that people were seeing faster HD speeds; with APPS booting up from the clone than they had seen with the internal HD. The cloning applications in cloning the drive defragments the data to the clone and remove the “holes” in the cloning process.
With a small portable HD clone you can take your ‘computer’ anywhere to most any other current Mac and boot from your HD clone and have your entire system and its data immediately there for use. In case one is across the world and their macbook gets stolen, or damaged, with another Mac you can be up and 100% in the time it takes to boot to the new or borrowed Mac!
You can clone from your external clone to the internal HD/SSD in case of corruption.
The best thing that can be said, ideally, when your HD crashes with all its data is “so what, I’ve got a clone right here” and you can return to normal operation within seconds (by booting from the clone) or minutes (by swapping drives).
In separating out your system hub (OS) and your data hub, and storing them separately, is if you make only periodic clones (every month or so), and have a HD crash, the worst case outcome is that what is lost on your clone are some bookmarks and preferences since your data hub containing your vital files is constantly archived separately as it should be.

Plug your iPod in and when it appears in iTunes, click on it from under Devices in the left hand pane.  This brings you to the Summary tab.  Locate and click on the Music tab.  What configurations do you have made from under this tab?  Is your iPod configured to sync those playlists?

  • Carbon Copy Cloner from Older OS to Newer OS

If I use Carbon Copy Cloner and clone my HDD for my Mac Book Pro which is currently running Snow Leopard, and copy it onto a computer with Mavericks, is there anything I have to do special?
Will it replace Mavericks with Snow Leopard?
Or will it just put all my files and programs and such on Mavericks?
Seems like a dumb question, but I am operating under the assumption that the newer OS X's may psossibly have some slightly different system folder structures and having a carbon copy of and older OS may cause there to be doubles of folders that couldnt be replaced because they are in different loctations or have different names.

You could buy an external HD and make a time machine backup... in the setup of mavericks (with the new HD in your MacBook) you have the option to import user data from time machine or an old mac...
An other option is to copy the HD of your MacBook to an external HD (with CCC) but you have to import your old data per drag and drop from the external Copy. This option is more difficult and requires much time, but you have a "clean" new system without any old stuff from previous systems...

  • I downloaded carbon copy. transferred entire internal hd  to new replacement HD  thru USB.  computer booted from replacement hrdrive. then installed replacement hard rive into iMac. when rebooting imac did not recognized new replacement hd.

i downloaded carbon copy. transferred entire internal hd  to new replacement HD  thru USB adapter kit.  computer booted from replacement hrdrive. then i erased the internal hardrive and reloaded the operating system.( i needed to find out if the hard drive was bad or virus/worm was the cause). then installed replacement hard drive into iMac. when rebooting, imac did not recognized new replacement hd. i also upgraded memory at the same time.  ok what did i do wrong. do i have to remove the new replacement hardrive to extract the data.

It should not matter. CCC will "clone" the recovery partition as well, but not knowing exactly what operation you had CCC perform it is difficult to know what may have gone wrong - it has many customizable options and you have to choose the correct one.
I have performed the same transplant as you described and didn't have a problem, but if your Mac is not recognizing the internal HD you really have no choice other than to reinitialize it as suggested. After that, install OS X, upgrade to Mountain Lion if required, and migrate your old account(s) from your backup.
    my backups have backups.
I assume you didn't mean that literally. Have redundant backups - don't "back up your backups".

  • Just moved CS4 Web from old mac to new using time machine. Apps won't launch. Help?

Just moved CS4 Web from old mac to new using time machine. I get an error when I try to launch a program on the new computer (150:30). After contacting live chat about the issue and providing all serial numbers etc. I was directed to a download. The download was a .dmg file that my computer did not recognize. It was suggested that I ask the experts on the forum how to resolve the issue. I have all the discs and serial numbers but the new macbook pro doesn't take discs (I guess they think all apps are downloadable now). Any ideas?

Hmm... I don't know why they sent you here... CS4 is not part of the Cloud
I have some download links for earlier versions of Premiere Pro and Premiere Elements, but not CS4 Web
My best idea is to take a LARGE USB memory stick to a friend with a DVD drive and copy your DVD over to the USB memory stick
Or, ask in the forum for your program(s) to find out if anyone has CS4 download links
If you start at the Forums Index https://forums.adobe.com/welcome
You will be able to select a forum for the specific Adobe product(s) you use
Click the "down arrow" symbol on the right (where it says All communities) to open the drop down list and scroll

  • Moving iPhoto pics from old mac to new mac

Running iPhoto 4 and trying to import all my photos into another iPhoto 4 on another Mac. Tried using import >iphoto Library where all my photos reside but get the familiar "unreadable files" message after it is completed. How do I get all my photos moved from my old Mac to new complete with the albums and organization it had on the old Mac?

    Michael,
simple.... well that is if you have an external HD, or DC/ DVD burner on the old mac!!
oprtion # 2 would be to use you old mac as a target drive and copy the entire library to you new mac into the pictures folder.
Tell me which one you'd like to do!!

  • How can I get music from old mac to new mac?

How can I get music from old mac to new mac please?
Can't seem to make Migration Assistant work. Doesn't ask about or transfer files.

I just migrated into a new MBP from an old one.
It did not bring the music over.  Apple's instructions are to use the Home Sharing feature of iTunes.
Open iTunes on your old Mac.  Select Home Sharing under the Advanced menu.  Sign in.  Do the same on your new computer.  Then when the library appears under Home Sharing on the left-hand panel on your new computer's iTunes, you can select all and Add To Library.
    That's what Apple says, anyway.

  • Transferring music from old Mac to new ipad

How do I transfer already purchased iTunes items from an old MacBook to my new ipad air?  Seems like the technology of old Mac and new ipad air don't speak to each other.  I tried to download from iTunes but none of the music from the old system downloads. Can someone suggest how I can move them?

Upgrade the computer to at least Mac OS X 10.6.8 and then sync the iPad Air normally.
