Having a Nightmare!! Trying to connect Epson DX4850 via Airport Extreme

Hi All,
Just thought I'd post and ask if anyone can help me to connect my Epson DX4850 all-in-one to my Airport Extreme (n) Base Station. I downloaded the drivers today and it works perfectly when I connect it to my MBP...however, when I try to select the printer from Airport Utilities. But when I try to print it comes up with 'Communication Error'. I have tried to add the printer again the set-up guide tells me to select it then click Bonjour from the pop-up menu but I don't see that anywhere. I checked ifelix.co.uk and I don't see my printer anywhere so I was thinking that maybe the printer wasn't compatible with AX. Please help...
Thanks
RICKY.

Neither scanning nor FAXing is supported by the USB port on the AirPort Extreme base station (AEBS).
The AEBS's USB port only supports printing.

  • I am trying to connect to directv using airport extreme

I am having great difficulty connecting my directv wirelsss connection device to my apple airport extreme.  the directv wireless device will not accept my security code.  I had the directv technician over for 3 hours and we could not solve the problem.  Help!!!

DirecTV wireless capabilities are quite limited for a modern product
Make sure that the name of your AirPort Extreme wireless network contains no apostrophes, exclamation marks, asterisks, dollar signs, etc.  Use only regular lettters and numbers.
For example, if the name of your wireless network is
    kikuum's wireless network
DirecTV will never be able to connect. Change the name to something with only letters and numbers, no spaces, and no more than 20 characters. So, for example  you could use something like
    kikuumwireless
You may also need to lower the security setting on your AirPort Extreme router from the default WPA2 Personal to WPA/WPA2 Personal
Open AirPort Utility, click on the AirPort Extreme icon and click Edit
Then click on the Wireless tab at the top of the window to access the settings page
Click Update at the lower right to save your new settings

  • Macbook connectivity to internet via airport extreme is flakey

    Hi,
Just bought a brand new airport extreme and I already own a June 2009 Mac book pro w/ snow leopard.
I always run software updater, so the Airport 2009-002 patch/fix is on this system.
I have a strange problem with my connectivity to the internet from my mac via the airport extreme.
Very regularly (and seemingly randomly) the laptops connectivity to the internet will drop out... i.e. websites won't respond, big websites (like google) don't respond to pings or anything. While these internet "drop outs" are happening, i can jump onto my PC (which is connected to the airport extreme via ethernet) and the internet is working fine.
Also, Wifi never drops out through this whole situation. This means that while I can't access the internet, my reception is still FULL and I can SAMBA connect to my PC and with other computers on the network.
It's very strange that purely internet via the Airport Extreme is having these issues.
The Airport is in Bridge mode (which means the ADSL modem/router is the DHCP server). The ADSL modem/router does not have wifi active or anything connected to it (other than the airport).
I've never had any issues with my internet - this is the first. My only real option if this can't get resolved is to return the airport, as this is inhibiting me from working from my laptop.
    Anyone else experience similar issues?
Can someone recommend any course of action to work around this issue?
Is there anymore information this forum needs to debug this problem? How can I obtain this info?
    I hope someone can help.
    Regards,
    Vijay

I seem to be in a very similar predicament, however I'm served even worse:
I'm loosing Internet connection over both LAN and WIFI. And the Airport Extreme does not detect the loss of connection even though the logging indicates the internal ntp client (trying to connect to time.euro.apple.com) fails (already on dns resolution).
Currently, I'm dvlp-ing a shell script that checks 4 websites, and if all 4 are unaccessible, I launch an applescript that restarts my airport extreme basestation.
This however does not always seems to solve the problem. Seemingly I would have to reset the modem.
The problem can - according to me - not be provider related, since it does not occur when the TimeMachine is replaced by a SL-installed mac mini (that however cannnot function as router (yet)).
    Any hints ? anyone ?
I previously had installed an Airport Extreme 10/100 version, which showed the same behaviour. Since the system was out of warranty, I decided to upgrade to a faster system, including TimeMachine, but unfortunately, the problem is still there.
I'm guessing now it could be related to the router being configured in dhcp (getting its ip address over dhcp), but the server provides a static ip address (never changes),... and maybe here there's something fishy.

  • Basic problem with connecting to disk via Airport Extreme - No Disks Found

I've a Lacie BigDisk (500GB) which connects fine via USB or firewire directly to my Macs (HFS). When I plug it into the AirPort Extreme, the Airport Utility shows the disk as connected, and I've ticked File Sharing, with "Secure Shared Disks" set to "With base station password".
The AirPort Disk Utility is set to Automatically Discover AirPort disks and to Show AirPort Disks in the menu bar. It sees the Airport Extreme, and the action is set to "Connect with Password".
When I close the AirPort Disk Utility I can see the disk icon in the top menu bar, and clicking on this provides a menu with (greyed out) "No Disks Found", and the option to "Open Airport Disk Utility..."
Any ideas - it's driving me mad!
    Thanks
    Andrew

I am having the same problem with a Lacie 320 GB HD as well with my AEBS. I can't get it to stay recognized in Leopard. I have gotten it to work but only for 10 minutes then I have to unplug and start over. I know that it works fine in Tiger but I am having troubles with my drive "disappearing" with Leopard. From what I can tell others have had this problem but I am not finding a solution. Some have said going back to 7.1.1 works however my AEBS is 2 months old and the oldest firmware it has in the airport utility is 7.2. I have also found old versions on the apple website most look for an intel chipset which I do not have I am running a powerbook G4, also my friend on a new MacbookPro couldn't get them to work at all. Air disk is an amazing concept when am I going to be able to use it?

  • Connecting to Interenet via Airport Extreme

I have installed the AE Base station, connecting to the internet thru ethernet connection from WAN port to modem (which is connected wirelessly to my ISP).
I can connect to the internet using my MAcbook Pro running system 10.4.8 or 9 but when I try to connect using a TiPowerbook running 10.3.9 I am unable to connect.
I tried to set up a network, but when trying to connect using TiPB keep getting an error - ERROR CONNECTING TO NETWORK - when using airport to access.
I cannot see the network when connecting using airport.
    Can anybody offer some advice

The ideal scenario would be if we didn't have to protect our wireless networks, but that wouldn't be too realistic in today's environment. The next best would be to use WPA or WPA2 encryption which, at present, is extremely difficult to break. Finally, as a minimum, you should use WEP.
The requirements for using WPA or WPA2 are...
    Minumum Requirements for WPA
    - AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBS) w/firmware 5.5, or
    - 802.11n AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBSn) w/firmware 7.0, or
    - AirPort Express Base Station (AX) w/firmware 6.1
    - AirPort Extreme or AirPort clients running Mac OS X 10.3 or later
    - AirPort for Mac 3.3
    Minimum Requirements for WPA2
    - AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBS) w/firmware 5.7, or
    - 802.11n AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBSn) w/firmware 7.0, or
    - AirPort Express Base Station (AX) w/firmware 6.3
    - AirPort Extreme or AirPort clients running Mac OS X 10.3 or later
    - AirPort for Mac 4.2, or
    For either WPA or WPA2
    - The password may be an ASCII password of 8 to 63 ASCII characters, or it may be a hexadecimal password ("Pre-Shared Key") of exactly 64 hexadecimal characters.
Your PowerBook appears to meet the requirement for at least WPA. I suggest that if you can verify that you can get Internet connectivity without wireless encryption, to try setting up for WPA on the AEBS.

  • Connect to internet via airport extreme via ethernet cable and no airport c

I just bought a MacBook with Airport Extreme, got it set up today and it works great, got online, etc. However, I have an iMac with no airport card. I can't figure out how to get both computers hooked up on the internet at the same time. The MacBook works only when the ethernet cable in in the LAN slot on the Extreme but won't work through the WAN slot. I have tried hooking up both ethernet cables into the Extreme, just the iMac, and nothing works. I don't need to connect wirelessly through the iMac so I don't want to buy an Airport card if I don't need one. I just don't want to plug and unplug the ethernet cable everytime I want to use the MacBook or the iMac. My modem from Verizon only has one ethernet slot. Any ideas?

You mean Airport Extreme Base station?
Here's what you need to do:
    1. Disconnect your Verizon Modem & Airport Extreme
    2. Connect the ethernet cable from the Verizon modem to the WAN of the AE
    3. Connect another ethernet cable from the LAN port of the AE to your iMac
    4. Turn on Verizon Modem
    5. Once all lights on the modem have turned on, turn on the Airport Extreme
    6. On your iMac click on Applications --> Utilities --> Airport Admin Utility
    7. Setup a Wireless network using this or the Airport Setup Assistant, located in the same Utility folder.
    8. After you have created the wireless network, connect to it on your macbook
If for some strange reason you still can't figure it out, refer to the product manual or check:

  • Powerbook Titanium won't connect to internet via Airport Extreme.

Hi everyone, I just boght an used Airport Extreme (White UFO version) and getting it to work with my MBP took about 5min and then it worked like a charm but my wifes Powerbook titanium is another thing...
It will connect to the router but I can not connect to the internet, the same with my "Scrap/sparepart" Powerbook titanium... it connects to the router but it stops there. My wifes PB has an original first gen. Airport card and my spare PB uses an Sonnet extreme PCI card.
I have tried it with WEP, WAP and without security no differens what so ever.
Im starting to lose my mind here running out of ideas...
And my wife is getting more and more crumpy since she cant check mail or surf on her computer.
    Help please.
    /Dan

It sounds like the problem with the PowerBooks is that both have the incorrect DNS settings for your ISP.
On the MacBook Pro go to System Preferences > Network, and then, note the DNS Server IP address(es) value(s). Then go to each of the PowerBooks and do the same. They should be the same. If not, change the DNS IP addresses to match those on the MacBook Pro.

  • Can't connect to iDisk via AirPort Extreme

I can't connect to iDisk if I have an Extreme in my network path.
    Connection that will work:
Motorola cable modem -> Netgear Hub -> iMac -> iDisk
    or
Motorola cable modem -> iMac -> iDisk
    Connection that doesn't work:
Motorla Cable modem -> Airport Extreme -> Netgar Hub -> Mac -> iDisk
    or
Motorla Cable modem -> Airport Extreme -> iMac
    or
Motorla Cable modem -> Airport Extreme -> Dell D610
    Oddly enough this will work:
Motorla Cable modem -> Airport Extreme ->Dell D610 -> VPN to Work network connection -> iDisk
This problem holds through with or without WEP Security.
Software: iMac 10.4.7 and Extreme V5.7 and it is setup as a WDS base station I need to extend my network to an Express.
Any thoughts? I have not found any problem like this on these pages. (As best as I could see anyway.)

Looking over your original post again, I think I might have misunderstood you the first time. If I understand you correctly, your Vista laptop can see the wireless network and connect to it (so you have access to the Internet), but you cannot see the Airport Extreme Base Station when using Airport Utility.
If your Internet connectivity is not an issue and it's just that you can't see the base station in Airport Utility to configure it, try using an ethernet cable to connect your Vista laptop to one of the LAN ports and see if the base station shows up in Airport Utility then.

  • Can't connect to internet via AirPort Extreme with Laptop running Vista

I've seen a lot of posts on this topic, and maybe I'm just out of luck, but anyway...
My PC running XP can connect to the internet through the AirPort Extreme, but laptop will not. I load the AirPort Utility on the laptop. Should I be able to see the base when I run the Utility? It does not see it. I can see the wireless network with excellent strength, but all I can do.
If I can't get this to work, I'm going to just return it and to back to the wireless router. I was enticed by the ability to connect the printer and external hard drive to the base. I would like to get rid of the PC and just use my laptop for everything.

  • All devices connect to internet via AirPort Extreme except Windows

    Hi -
We've got an AirPort Extreme 7.6.4 set up using Bridge Mode, receiving DHCP service from an OS X Server 10.8.4. Macs and wireless devices of all makes and models work fine, but we are increasingly finding that Windows PCs are unable to access the internet, despite making a wireless connection to the AirPort.
This is difficult to troubleshoot, as the Windows PCs are invariably clients' computers and they don't tend to have much access to their control panel, but any ideas will be appreciated.
    Thanks,
    z

Thanks so much for the response.
There are no other routers providing DHCP service, only the Mac server. We do not have NetBIOS enabled.
The Windows PC clients are not receiving an appropriate IP address -- they are self-assigned 169.x.x.x. The PCs *do* receive a correct IP address if I hardwire them.

  • Nokia N80 won't connect to internet via airport extreme

My Nokia N80 connects to the internet through a wireless network at work (not sure of the set up) but won't connect to my wireless network at home which is airport extreme with 128bit encryption. Any clues?
    Thanks in advance

    Probably a WEP key issue.
One of the problems with WEP is that the actual standard relies on a 10 character HEX key for 40bit WEP and a 26 character HEX key for 128bit WEP.
In order to make things easier for people, vendors use certain algorithms to convert simple alphanumeric passwords (or passphrases) into HEX keys, thus enabling people to use simple memorable WEP password rather than lengthy HEX keys.
The problem is that different vendors use different algorithms to generate the HEX key and therefore a ASCII password on an AEBS will be hashed differently on a Netgear client and vice versa.
One thing is a 13 character 128 bit WEP password will be hashed by all vendors in the same way (if you use 40bit WEP then a 5 character password is required).
Though sometimes not even that works and the HEX key must be used regardless.

Need to connect to my office server via airport extreme

Sorry, but it would be nearly impossible to help without a lot more information about both your network and your company's network in order to provide you with any useful assistance.
    For example:
What model is your AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBS)?
How do you plan on connecting to your office server? VPN? Direct router-to-router connection over the Internet?
What type of Internet service is at the office?
Does the ISP provide the office router with a static or dynamic Public (WAN-side) IP address?
What is the model of the Internet router used at the office?
What service(s) do you want to access from the office server?
