Having an Airport/Bluetooth installation

Anyone knows how much an Airport/bluetooth installation goes for a Mac Mini at Applestore. And also just a bluetooth intallation for my iBook.

Though, I do mean physically taking the mini over to a nearby apple retail store which I have one close to me, for them to do the installation. I know that they do these things. I have put a 1 gig stick of ram myself and it was simple, I'm not into paying 800 plus for a new computer to then pry it open weaks later< but the ram was simple. Though I have heard that Do it yourself AIrport insallation is tricky, Plus I have the extended Apple Care plan and I don't want to void it.I hace seen around on disucussions that a Bluetooth/airport installtion is $99 to more but it's not clarified.

  • Mac Mini G4 Airport/Bluetooth installation guide - Late 2005?????

    Hi,
I've got a non Bluetooth G4 Mac Mini and have managed to source a used Apple Airport/Bluetooth upgrade kit. However although it states it will work in 1.25, 1.42, 1.33 & 1.5Ghz Mac Minis the card looks different to what is shown on iFixit's site? Their teardown shows a standard Apple Airport Extreme card where as the one i'm getting seems to have a "combined" Airport & Bluetooth kit and a different looking Riser or Mezziane board? Can anybody show me an installation guide other than the one on ifixit that shows the type of kit i'm getting. I've gone to great lengths to get this and am worried it won't work.
    Thanks.

The only thing you'd really miss out on is faster Windows operating system support such as described on my FAQ:
    http://www.macmaps.com/macosxnative.html#WINTEL
the ability to upgrade the RAM is limited to 1 GB, though is a chore on both models to do yourself,
an extra 2 USB ports, and possibly a smaller hard drive. A faster graphics card comes with the new Mac Minis.
iLife '06 is optimized for the new Mac Minis, and so are the new Universal Binary applications. Oh and Front Row support comes with the new Mac Minis.
The advantage of the old Mac Mini is that it comes with Appleworks, built-in 56k modem (as opposed to extra addon on the new one), and the ability to run the Classic environment. Wireless is also included with all new Mac Minis. For more on the differences, compare:

  • Looking for installation manual for Airport / Bluetooth in Mac Mini (PPC)

    Hi,
Last year I purchased a Mac Mini as an additional Mac. At the time, Wireless, and bluetooth were not available as a complete package from resellers. I bought the Airport / Bluetooth kit for the Mac Mini and want to install it.
I have been searching for the Manual to download. Can anyone help me.
BTW, I have a technical background, and have designed/built logic and RF electronics. But I want a guide, so as I do not assume.
    Thank you,
    John

Welcome to the Apple discussion forums.
Video showing how to take the mini apart can be found at http://eshop.macsales.com/tech_center/index.cfm?page=Video/directory.html Note installation of the wireless/bluetooth isn't addressed, but getting into the box is shown.
A memory replacement that does show the airport/bluetooth cards is at http://www.ifixit.com/Guide/82.13.0.html
Perhaps with the other references, this will provide a basis to know what you're diving into.

  • How can I completely disable Airport / BlueTooth?

    Hello All,
I've asked this in another thread, but have just realized that there is a dedicated Airport discussion area. So, I figured I would refine my question using information gathered from my previous discussion, and see if you fine people here in this discussion group might be able to shed additional light on my question.
    So, here we go:
For those that want the background on my question, the original thread is at:
    http://discussions.info.apple.com/webx?128@@.68bc9dac
My desire is to completely disable the Airport and BlueTooth features that are now integrated into the new systems.
I am considering purchasing a new iMac G5 or Power Mac G5, and want to see if it is possible to disable these features before I spend my money.
While others are convinced that I am crazy, my personal desire is not to have this type of radio frequency / radiation emissions on my desk.
I know there are many who feel it is not an issue or problem, so rather than discuss whether it is a warranted concern, I would prefer to discuss the simple matter of whether it can be disabled.
(see my previous discussion for my feelings / research on the subject)
My previous discussion led me to understand that it is soldered into the main board on the 2 latest revisions of the iMac G5, and probably also on the Power Mac G5. Any confirmations / corrections there?
I was hoping that I could simply unplug them like I could on older systems to eliminate them completely.
If that is not possible at all on the iMac G5's or Power Mac G5's, then here are a couple of additional questions:
I have learned that there is a setting in OS X to "Turn Off" the Airport features.
Does this setting actually power down and completely deactivate the Airport circuitry so that it would be essentially the same as if it were removed? Or, does it simply ignore the Airport controller and leave it powered-up?
    Any knowledge there?
Secondly, anyone know if there is a similar setting for Blue Tooth? If there is, same question. Does it completely shut-down / power-off the Blue Tooth circuitry? Or, does it simply ignore it and leave it electrically powered?
My end goal is to have absolutely no signal coming out of the computer's Airport and BlueTooth circuitry. I want it to be essentially the same as if they were not even present.
If you know where I might find technical documents supporting or explaining how this enable / disable feature works (in relation to the above question), I would greatly appreciate it.
Additionally, in the event that disabling the features in Software / OS X doesn't work, is it safe (or possible) to simply disconnect the antenna from the Airport / BlueTooth controller or circuitry. It would seem that this might be quite easy on the Power Mac G5. It might still be possible on the iMac G5's with built-in Airport and Blue Tooth.
Yes, I know that some will think this quite unusual. Some may think I'm weird or strange. But, if you read my other discussion, you might understand my personal perspective and concern.
Either way, I am hopeful that rather than discussing whether there is a valid concern, that we might be able to discuss options and ideas on how to disable these features.
    Thank you in advance.

Your original thread on this topic has pretty well beaten the subject to death.
Yes, turning "Off" the Airport card from the MacOS Airport menu does indeed turn off its radio transmitter. That is the method recommended for people who, for example, want to take their Mac laptops on an aircraft where one is not allowed to have a radio transmitter on during the flight.
There is a similar setting in Bluetooth Preferences.

  • What type of screwdriver do I need to install AirPort/Bluetooth Card  A1126

My airport extreme card was causing kernel panics, and I discovered one antenna wire was unplugged, but without unscrewing the card, I'm unable to plug the antenna back in. My question is what type of screwdriver do I need to unscrew the card? I have a 17" iMac G5 without the built in iSight and the layout is exactly like the one pictured in this DIY guide : http://manuals.info.apple.com/en/imacG517inchharddrive.pdf
Thanks for any help you can provide! :-D

Thank you for the link, but they only list a DIY install guide for the original iMac G5. My airport/bluetooth card is very similar/almost exact to the card found in the iSight iMac G5s.
My logic board layout looks exactly like this http://manuals.info.apple.com/en/imacg517inch_PowerSupply.pdf as opposed to http://manuals.info.apple.com/en/imacG517inchAirPort.pdf where the airport card is much larger and doesn't require a special screwdriver for replacement. I'm not really in need of install instructions, but rather what specific screwdriver/allen wrench is needed to get the card off the board.
thank you guys for any info you can provide...

  • Having intermittent Airport connectivity with a 2010 6 core MacPro.  Any help?

Having intermittent Airport connectivity with a 2010 6 core MacPro. When it works has low bars on status graph.  Laptop set up next to it has no connect problems. Airport utility has shown no Airports a couple times when the laptop showed all. When first joined network, staus bar is full, then drops to one or two bars. Would this be an antenna or card being loose? Is it user friendly fix, or bring it to Apple? Thanks in advance.

Would this be an antenna or card being loose?
    Sounds like it.
Is it user friendly fix, or bring it to Apple?
If under AppleCare, bring it to Apple. If not, you can probably find instructions to fix a loose antenna connector yourself.

  • TA26574 Having no success with installation - file is 657k and does nothing accept ask me what program I want to open it with.

Quicktime playback component for windows download & install - Having no success with installation.  File says it is Winquicktime MPEG2 - upon clicking it asks what program to open with - any thoughts - I've redownloaded it and tried to have it run vs. download and the same thing happens.

Nope---didn't work. I've owned Macs for about 12 years so although I am brain dead on some things, I do have a working knowledge on most things. I only say that to say this--I did try holding down the mouse and choosing empty trash. It asks if I want to permanently delete what's in there. I say yes--and then I get the same identical message again-----'The operation can't be completed because the item "Firefox 8.0.1.dmg" is in use I can then click stop, or continue.' So apparently that complains the same way it does if I click it up on the menu :)))
As for item owned by---that's not an issue and isn't coming up. User is not a problem either as I am the only user on this system. There is only ONE file in my trash at the moment at that is this dmg file. Nothing Mac. Nothing owned by anyone other than Firefox. The problem seems to be that the dmg file and the original 4.0 FF file are working in tandem with each other--even though I have already drug the new 8.0 globe into the Apps folder and it updated the FF app with the new stuff. If I could force the dmg file to go away, I would do so, but at every turn the system is telling me it can't be done because it seems to think that dmg file is in use---even though everything is shut down and/or ejected. Hey--I'm getting ready to head out and won't be back till evening. I'll check back in this evening. Thank you again for your help.

You can turn on BT tethering but it disables Wifi so if I have to do that step every time I get in my car, I just as well manually connect on BT every time.

    Regards,

Is this a clean install or an upgrade?  20 GB, though greater than the minimum, is pretty minimal.  How much memory do you have on the system?  2008 would try to create a page file of 1.5x physical memory, so if you are building on a large
memory system, you could be having an issue there.
    "Pls resolve this issue immediately"

  • TS1569 iphone ios5.1 still having issues with Bluetooth

Iphone Ios5.1 still having issues on Bluetooth connectivity.

I lost The Bluetooth function completely two weeks ago. iPHONE IOS 5.1 .
This is not a pairing issue, or wrong usage. Suddenly it didn't work in my car any longer. Resetting didn't help. I have tested against two other iPhones, my PC, my headset and my iPAD. (all this units have had BT connections with my iPHONE earlier)
My iPhone Bluerooth is simply not working anylonger, not detectable and cannot "see" or find any other BT devices.
Is this a software bug? Or simply a hardware error requiring physical repair?
    Cheers Rolf

  • Can you build a new version of an exe without having to rebuild its installer afterwards?

I'm currently testing a LabVIEW-built exe on a PC without LabVIEW installed. Each time I go back to the development PC to fix a bug / change something, and then rebuild the executable, it seems I also have to rebuild its installer which takes a significant amount of time.
Is there a way to rebuild an executable without having to rebuild its installer? Or a way to tell the installer it doesn't need to be completely rebuilt, but rather just needs to look at the new executable?
After writing this out, I've realised there probably isn't a way to do it, but it's worth a shot.

I understand what Taki is saying, but I don't see the need to "update" the installer after making changes to an .exe; especially if it's going to a PC that already has the RTE installed. Later, if I have to do a build, it will incorporate the current changes to the .exe.
In my opinion, it's just easier to create installers.
Yes, in your circumstance it would be.  For me, I only have to worry about internal customers, so I am the only one that does the install;  therefore, I don't have to worry so much about the details of the installation.

  • Installing Airport/Bluetooth

Hey guys, I was hoping you could help me out here. I've just bought a PowerMacG5 with a serial number that dates it being made in March of 2005 and I want to put Airport and Bluetooth in it, but I'm not sure which parts I need. There are two options I have here: 1.)the Combo Card with both Airport/Bluetooth or 2.) to get an Airport Extreme card and a separate Bluetooth chip. I'm pretty sure that option 2 is the one I want since I have ports for external antennas, but I wanted to verify that here. Also if I go this route, I think I'll be getting a lower version of Bluetooth right? If so is there anyway to upgrade this to a more current version? Any help would be greatly appreciated, Thanks!

OK, for Airport Extreme, you need this card:
    http://www.dvwarehouse.com/Apple-Airport-Extreme-Wireless-Card-802.11G-M8881-p-3 1367.html
    and this antenna:
    http://www.dvwarehouse.com/Apple-Airport-External-Antenna-for-G5-2004-2005--MacP ro-Early-2008-A1066-922-6043---NEW-p-33986.html
    and for Bluetooth, this card

    and this antenna

Not sure you can get "later" bluetooth internally, you would have to go with a USB Bluetooth approach, I believe.
