Having Apple store check it for bugs?

I live in the bahamas and i am coming over next week to buy Iphone4s. With all the bugs I am reading about i am thinking about asking a tex at the store if they can put a sim in it and try it if they will because if i get it home and have problems it cost me money to send it back. My friend got one and keep dropping calls, sent it back and got a new one , same thing. So far hes spent over $300 in shipping alone and still no working phone. Anyone have any feedback on this.

You should be able to try your phone as soon as it is activated. That is what I did when I got mine. There is no guarantee that it will work without problems once you get back to the Bahamas if it works well in the store. You are essentially taking it out of the 'country'. Dropping calls is related to the cell phone network and signal strength where you use the phone. I have a work phone on the Sprint network and it frequently drops calls or does not connect even though I work in a major city. Their network is very poor in our area.

my mac is running slow, the spinning beach ball constantly appears. it seems that when i am in the apple store with fast wifi its a bit better. genius at the apple store checked the hard drive, it's all fine. what can it be? can it be a software issue with the wifi?
also i noted that it has only been doing this since quite recently, before it was fine
    please help!

First, back up all data immediately, as your boot drive might be failing.
    Step 1
This diagnostic procedure will query the log for messages that may indicate a system issue. It changes nothing, and therefore will not, in itself, solve your problem.
If you have more than one user account, these instructions must be carried out as an administrator.
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
    syslog -k Sender kernel -k Message CReq 'GPU |hfs: Ru|I/O e|find tok|n Cause: -|NVDA\(|timed? ?o' | tail | open -ef
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Paste into the Terminal window (command-V). I've tested these instructions only with the Safari web browser. If you use another browser, you may have to press the return key.
The command may take a noticeable amount of time to run. Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign (“$”) to appear.
A TextEdit window will open with the output of the command. Normally the command will produce no output, and the window will be empty. If the TextEdit window (not the Terminal window) has anything in it, stop here and post it — the text, please, not a screenshot. The title of the TextEdit window doesn't matter, and you don't need to post that.
    Step 2
There are a few other possible causes of generalized slow performance that you can rule out easily.
Disconnect all non-essential wired peripherals and remove aftermarket expansion cards, if any.
    Reset the System Management Controller.
Run Software Update. If there's a firmware update, install it.
If you're booting from an aftermarket SSD, see whether there's a firmware update for it.
If you have a portable computer, check the cycle count of the battery. It may be due for replacement.
If you have many image or video files on the Desktop with preview icons, move them to another folder.
If applicable, uncheck all boxes in the iCloud preference pane. See whether there's any change.
Check your keychains in Keychain Access for excessively duplicated items.
Boot into Recovery mode, launch Disk Utility, and run Repair Disk.
If you have a MacBook Pro with dual graphics, disable automatic graphics switching in the Energy Saverpreference pane for better performance at the cost of shorter battery life.
    Step 3
When you notice the problem, launch the Activity Monitor application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Activity Monitor in the icon grid.
Select the CPU tab of the Activity Monitor window.
Select All Processes from the View menu or the menu in the toolbar, if not already selected.
Click the heading of the % CPU column in the process table to sort the entries by CPU usage. You may have to click it twice to get the highest value at the top. What is it, and what is the process? Also post the values for User, System, and Idle at the bottom of the window.
Select the Memory tab. What value is shown in the bottom part of the window for Swap used?
Next, select the Disk tab. Post the approximate values shown for Reads in/sec and Writes out/sec (not Reads in andWrites out.)
    Step 4
If you have more than one user account, you must be logged in as an administrator to carry out this step.
Launch the Console application in the same way you launched Activity Monitor. Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
    View ▹ Show Log List
    from the menu bar.
Select the 50 or so most recent entries in the log. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combinationcommand-C. Paste into a reply to this message (command-V). You're looking for entries at the end of the log, not at the beginning.
When posting a log extract, be selective. Don't post more than is requested.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Important: Some personal information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting. That should be easy to do if your extract is not too long.

  • Going to an apple store and asking for a replacement

    Hi
Is it possible for me to go into my local apple store and ask for my iPod Touch 2nd Generation to be fixed?
It has lasted me a good amount of years and it has finally started to die, I was wondering if I could go into the store and ask for a replacement for a knocked off fee. I've been told by a few people that the above method can be done in a store, I was checking if I could get online clarification if this was true.
Also could it have the option to be replaced with a later generation for a slighty raised fee?
    Thanks
    All help appreciated.

Apple will exchange your iPod for a refurbished one for this price. They do not fix yours.

No; it needs to be an iTunes Store gift card to do that.

  • If i am going to buy an iphone from someone, can the apple store check if it does not have an issue?

I want to buy a phone from a friend. He states that it was brand new and there is nothing wrong with the phone's exterior or interior. I still want to check if there is anything else that I could check for. Is it possible that the Apple Store can help me check any problems with the phone? Can they also tell me the carrier of the phone? He states that it is from T-Mobile, but I still want to check.
    Thank You.
    Sara

If you call Apple with the serial number they can tell you the carrier it is locked to. You can also check the warranty status at: Apple - Support - Check Your Service and Support Coverage and see if it is Activation Locked (a theft deterrent feature) at https://www.icloud.com/activationlock/.
However, if you don't trust the friend perhaps you shouldn't buy it. And reconsider if they really are a friend.

  • Is it policy for Apple Store to ask for user password to repair iMac?

My father just took his iMac G5 into the Apple Store to get repaired. It seemingly is having a power supply issue (http://www.apple.com/support/imac/powersupply/repairextension/).
They said they needed his password. This sounded absurd to me. Is this common practice?
    thanks,
    Clint

..."and implied that if he didn't give it to them, that it wasn't their fault if the computer wasn't fixed."...
I find that appalling. Realistically, I doubt that Apple Stores are setting out to steal their customer's personal information, but there is no question from your account that that is the risk that people are being coerced to expose themselves to. Every organization will have its, ahem, bad apples, and it isn't unheard of for repair techs to go snooping in people's hard drives, eg.
    http://consumerist.com/consumer/investigations/video-consumerist-catches-geek-sq uad-stealing-****-from-customers-computer-271963.php
Given this reality, there really should be a policy against asking for a user password which grants access beyond what can be read straight off of the hard drive. But three separate people have posted about being asked for their account passwords for a repair that should not require it. The specific stores haven't been mentioned, but I find it unlikely that all three of you are posting about the same store so it would seem the practice unfortunately seems to be common.
I don't know about the specifics, or merits of the case (IANAL), but a class action lawsuit has been launched against Apple for following unsafe practices with respect to the inclusion of too much personal information on receipts they issue for online purchases.
    http://www.informationweek.com/news/showArticle.jhtml?articleID=201311228
The picture I'm getting that somewhere in the chain of command, someone at Apple the corporation doesn't "get" the importance of protecting customers' personal information to prevent this sort of thing from happening.
Sorry, I don't know what to suggest about who to report this to, or what steps to take to ensure that any personal information that could potentially have been accessed is not misused.

  • Want a Macbook, but nervous, went to Apple store to listen for whine...

They had 6 MacBooks, 3 1.8s and 3 2.0s, and -every- -single- -one- of them had the whine.
    Wow.
I'd never heard it before, just read about it, but it's really an unmistakeable sound. I personally could never live with it, but I could see how in a loud environment for some people it might be overlookable.
I really want to buy one and was hoping the ones that made the noise were few and far between, but I came away concluding that most likely nearly all of them do it, because the sound was nearly identical on every machine. Though putting the plug in on one of them made it go down a bit.
It's really surprising they released these as is, imo. You couldn't have one on in a meeting, for example. It would definitely disturb conversation.
On the plus side though, I didn't think the heat was too bad. Certainly hotter than my PB G4, and I wouldn't want to put it on my lap, but the and keyboards were not remotely too hot to touch. Granted they weren't doing CPU intensive stuff, but they presumably had been powered up all day.
Various Macs and PCs   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

I had occasion to visit one of our local Apple Stores (Bridgeport Village) tonite. They had 9 MBP's on display in various locations in the store. The store was practically empty and so I went to each one and listened closely including putting my ear to the speakers on each side, listening carefully for any noise. I can tell you that NONE (ZERO, NADA, ZILCH) had any audible sound, whine or otherwise. They were quieter than my machine, which is a week 8 and has no whine, just the usual fan noise.
This store had a pretty laid back staff. I was able to randomly determine S/N configs on about 4 machines - 8610, 8609, 8613, 8610.
According to the manager, they've had a few machines brought back in for heat issues, but the whine issue has been "...a big nothing". We've heard about it, but we've never seen a machine brought in with anything that approaches the descriptions we read about on this newsgroup. We try to check each machine we display and we've frequently opened machines and helped customers get set up. But that's the extent of our exposure. Our machines run 24/7 and while they get warm, we wouldn't call any of them hot, and, like you, we don't hear any whines.
    So, obviously mileage varies widely.

  • What to do if you dont have an apple store near you for repairs.

Just curious as to what apple will do if you dont have an apple store near you and you have a defective device. My nearest apple store is 300 miles each way and after reading about some of the defects people have been seeing such as screens being scratched easily, loose screens, software problems etc.
Verizon is backordered so im sure they wouldnt be of any help.
So whats apples procedures for people not near an apple store to make an appointment.

If you contact Apple Support, they can also ship you a replacement, if your device is eligible for service or Out-of Warranty repair.
Check this article about it: Apple - Support - Service Answer Center
    Choosing a service option
You can request repair service from your carrier (except AT&T and Virgin Mobile), directly from Apple, or from a local Apple Authorized Service Provider. If you get service through Apple, you can mail us your iPhone or make an appointment with a Genius at an Apple Retail Store.
    About repair service
When you send your iPhone to Apple, we’ll examine it to confirm it’s eligible for the service you requested. If your iPhone is eligible, we’ll either repair your iPhone or replace it. The replacement will be new or equivalent to new in both performance and reliability. If we determine that your iPhone is eligible for a different service than the one you requested, we’ll contact you with more information.
    Out-of-warranty service
If your iPhone or the required service isn’t covered by Apple’s One Year Limited Warranty, AppleCare+, or AppleCare Protection Plan, you may still be able to get out-of-warranty service. For example, an iPhone damaged by liquids may be eligible for out-of-warranty service. Apple reserves the right to determine whether your device is eligible. See Apple’s Repair Terms and Conditions for complete details.
Read Apple’s Repair Terms and Conditions
    See out-of-warranty service pricing
Before you send your iPhone for service, back it up!
Your content is important, and you’ll need the backup to restore your iPhone after service. Apple will delete the content on your iPhone during the service process, regardless of whether you bring it to your carrier, take it to an Apple Retail Store, or mail it in.

    Dear Team,
i had brought a APPLE IPHONE4 from APPLE STORE, MANCHESTER ARNDALE. new cannon street mall.
when i was visiting for purchasing this device the sales team told me that the phone is unlocked and can use all around the world with any other network when i'm trying to use it other network it showed that NO SERVICE(at network issue) and then i made a call 2 apple customer support so the executive told me that this device has been locked with VODAFONE UK network. this was the FAKE commitment of sales team also its a CHEATING i must say that.
i'm very much disapointed and dissatiesfied with the APPLE STORE sales team...
kindely look toward and give me solution.
    thanks,
    regard,
    Nishant Kumar

I had read that thanks but many happy owners of locked iPhones
claim to have bought from an Apple store they do not actually mean
    Apple Retail
Arndale Centre is one of the largest Malls in Europe and every vendor of iPhones is there
Apple retail in UK ONLY sell unlocked iPhones unless you opt for a contract at a reduced price
not something you can do accidently as in sim free in US
    But thanks for you guidance
