Having e-mail problems on iPhone

i have an iPhone 4S,iOS 7.0.4 and i have 3 emails accounts on it outlook.com, hotmail.com, and icloud.com evrything was ok until i had to delete all of them and set them up again. The fisrt thing i noticed is that it was hard to set them up not like other times that it could be done in a few minutes, first to set up hotmail i went to the list of options and picked"other" hotmail was not listed after entering email and pass it verifed but (and this is what i dont like)when i went to check my emails i saw that it actually shows all or everthing i have on that account just like i would see it if i go to inbox on a PC you know like all of my folders and i dont like or want that, i didnt have it a few hours ago before making the mistake of deleting my emails accounts and then instal lthem again, I just want to see mail emails delete them if i want to but just on phone not from server, like i said i was able to do that before, then i went to the email accounts and check ther setting and the option to never delete from server is not longer there on any of them, also i used to have a different tone for each of my email accounts so i would know which account recived email from a distance without having to have email notification on plain view on a look screen, but now i dont have that option, if i go to sounds and pick sound for email i can only pick one soud for all of my emial accounts, the outllok.com account has the same issues as hotmail, before i was able to set it up using the "other" option but now it wants me to pick outlook and of couser i get all of whatever is on my inbox( again i just want my email not everyrhing) and again not the option to just delete on phone. i gues in short is that i want POP email not IMAP, does any one know how to do that or am stuck with this new settings and all that is left is to lament the hour i decided to delete my accounts and install them again, its only been a few hours but i really miss my different tones for each of my accounts sniff sniff.

Thanks for bringing these together in one spot. • HT6030 Having major Mail problems since I updated Maverick on my 27" iMac. Delays deleting emails and moving emails to other folders. Anyone else having this issue? If so, any known fixes?

I have an iMac that around 3 years old. Just installed Mavericks when it first was released. I also have a Time Capsule (2TB) that runs my network to my other three Apple devices: iPad2, iPhone 5s and a new Apple TV. Having major Mail issues here. Everything is very delayed and extremely slow. Moving emails to other folders sometimes takes a few minutes and the same goes for deleting emails. Delete them and they don't go into the trash for several minutes. It's getting very frustrating to say the least. Mail also quits very often. Mail also will freeze with the little color ball spinning, therefore I would have to force quit Mail. When the errors occur, it's automatically sent to Apple but there hasn't been an update since 10.9.1 that has fixed it. Apparently, that update was only for gmail issues. Anyone having the same problem? Fixes please?

I have my entire network and all Apple devices setup as IMAP, not POP. If your settings are setup as a POP account on all devices, emails will not erase when deleted on your other devices. Just something to keep in mind. I'm sure you're aware of this but just wanted to throw it out there. Google IMAP vs POP. However, it seems like your having the same issues as I am. I'm going to swing by an Apple store by me and speak to the genius bar and see if they can come up with something or are aware of this issue. Keep you posted.

  • Yahoo Mail problems on IPhone

Was working then two days ago all of a sudden stopped working. I did not change my password. I have since used Yahoo's web based account (regular not plus). My password consists of only letters and numbers. I have tried deleting and recreating. I get messages saying wrong password or username. I have typed in 5 times and yes I have logged of on Web based mail and logged in typing in the same exact words and it works. I have also gotten a error message of something talking about imap.apple.mail.yahoo.com. ANY IDEAS??

Well, I've also been dealing with this strange problem of being unable to make Yahoo Mail work on my iphone. I've never had any problems until last Friday 3-27-09. I changed my password, I've attempted setting up Yahoo Mail on another iphone. Symptom does not change. At first, my account would authenticate, but then when I would go in to check in Mail, message would appear saying my password was incorrect. One thing I've also noticed, and I'm wondering if these problems correlate in some way, is that my Yahoo Messenger application on my desktop computer is also exhibiting the same sign-on problem. I really think this may be a Yahoo issue. But I've been in contact with one of their support bot's. They stated on a previous email that this is a known issue with Messenger. For my Iphone problem, they just redirect me to some general mobile Yahoo website that is pretty much useless to me. I've troubleshooted this issue enough to be confident that it is more complex and that it's not me entering in the wrong password and that it is not an Iphone settings problem. I opened a new Yahoo email ID, and was able to set it up successfully on the Iphone. It seems to me that some accounts may be affect and may not be a global "Yahoo Server" problem. Any other tips or advice would help here....

    Hi!

  • TS3276 Is anyone else having IMAP mail problems with OS 10.8.2?

I upgraded to 10.8.2 a couple weeks ago. My email worked just fine until I got a "mail update" message on the 9th. Since then, I'm connected to the internet but the system keeps asking me for my password. My password hasn't changed & I can go into the server and access my email directly using my password. I worked for 2 hours with the server folks and they think it's a bug in the new OS.
The mail connection doctor shows connection to server succeeded but the IMap account failed.

Constant problems: asking for password, not retrieving mail from the server, leaving things in the outbox. Then it can be fine for days. iPad and iPhone apps sometimes hang for a bit as well.
A friend just bought an iMac and has had nothing but trouble with ROGERS mail. Support guy walked us through the whole set up today and everything was fine for a while and then it just quit.
I am wondering if having an IPad, computer and phone all communicating with server at the same time causes problems.

  • One server & group having login + mail problems

But other servers & groups are not.
Here is my setup at a K-12 school:
-Three XServe Intel Xeons (one per division of the school) for three groups of users, network home directories live on these intel machines, running 10.4.10
-One G5 server handles LDAP (OD Master), DNS, DHCP for our network (another G5 server is OD replica), running 10.4.10
Now, one group of users (Elementary School) is having very long login times, generally slow performance with applications, and they're also getting many errors with email: the Mail app gives them an error that it can't access their mail, as either their home directory is full, or that their mailboxes are locked, when neither of these are true.
I had thought there might be school-wide problems, but have been able to narrow down the errors, slow logins, and Mail.app issues to this single group of users.
I'm not sure which logs to look at to begin to try to remedy this situation, but if anyone has any suggestions -- what I should compare between the three division servers to see if the one is getting errors the others are not / what I might check in DNS/DirectoryAccess to see if one thing is not working on the one and is on the others -- any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks

  • Just upgraded to Leopard and having general mail problems...

Hi all. Thanks for any help you can give me in advance.
I'm having multiple problems and I hope you guys can help. Has anyone had any general reliability issues? I understand that mail often can flicker or hang up, and restarting the program can be necessary. No big deal. But since I've upgraded, it happens constantly. I run multiple accounts, from multiple providers, and they are all having trouble. So I don't feel it is my provider. I'll list a couple problems to provide some examples.
    1) When I start Mail, a pop up comes up to make me verify each account server. I feel like I'm in Windows Vista with endless pop-up-warnings.
    2) More often than it used to with 10.4, when sending, the SMTP server will hiccup and I'll get the "try again later" warning. And I have to restart Mail to get it to send. This happens at least 10 times a day.
    3) Large attachments, 5 to 10 megs, often won't send if they don't get uploaded fast enough. My company doesn't have the fastest internet, and it can take time. This wasn't a problem with 10.4.
Those are the biggies. Seems like it is just general unreliability. I have multiple accounts with multiple providers, so I'm led to believe that the problem is with Mail, not my providers.
    Thanks.

I ran in to similar problems when I upgrade my wife's iMac to Leopard. The easiest way I found after about three hours of trying to solve the issue is to just download and reinstall iTunes. that whole process took ten minutes and iTunes is working as it should. You can get the latest version of iTunes here:

With an IMAP account, you have an option to store the account's Drafts, Sent, and Trash mailbox on the server or locally on the drive.
What is your account setting for where the account's Sent mailbox is stored on your iPhone?

  • VERY annoying Mail Problem

I'm having random mail problems that are quite strange. If I have an E-Mail waiting on my account, when I start Apple mail, it will get the message but the little wheel will just keep turning and then I can't quit mail. I have to do a force quit. Then if I start mail, the same message comes through again and it repeats the cycle. I've tried various things and I've even got rid of all mail preferences and the mail folder and started from scratch and when it tried to create an account, it does the same thing. The funny thing about it is that if I delete the messages on the server and start mail. Any further message will arrive correctly and mail doesn't go into this "loop" and all will be well until the next time I start up mail and there a message waiting to download.
This thing is driving me up the wall as it seems almost to be a random thing. There are some interesting messages in the console log though that may help. First off, I don't think this problem even started until I installed Safari 4, then, I updated to Safari 4.0.1 today but it didn't help the problem.
Here's the message I'm getting in the console logs.
    Jun 17 18:57:20 The-Beast Mail[371]: WebKit Threading Violation - NSData* -[WebArchive data](WebArchive*, objc_selector*) called from secondary thread
Jun 17 18:57:20 The-Beast Mail[371]: Additional threading violations for this function will not be logged.

Count me in with the same problem. I have spent 5-6 hours already on trying to troubleshoot the issue.
These are the processes that I have gone through so far:
--Used Terminal to turn off Mail's auto function for checking for new mail, so that it is check to manual checking. (The reason I had to go through Terminal to accomplish this was my Mail settings were set to check automatically ever minute. After force quitting 10+ times and restarting Mail and trying to get to the preferences and switch to manual checking before Mail started the auto process of checking. I could not beat it in time. LOL <very frustrating> Problem that I encountered, which seems similar to the both of you is that mail would begin the checking new mail process and then I would get the spinning grey gears next to every email account I had in Mail. It just looped and eventually I would have to Force Quit Mail.
I ran disk permission repairs and keychain first aid. No apparent problems. I removed a couple of 3rd party bundles from user/library/Mail/bundles and /library/Mail/bundles as suggesting in one of Apple's tech documents.
Still no signs issues rbeing resolved. According to another Apple doc, if you have startup disks from 10.5.7 onwards, you can re-install certain Apple applications without having to reinstall the entire operating system. Mail is one of those Apple applications and I just purchased a new MAcBook Pro which did indeed have 10.5.7 discs.....so I re-installed Mail. No resolve of issues.
The next step I took was one which I learned from an Apple support call a couple of years ago with a similar mail issue. The tech had me set-up a new user account on the same machine and begin re-adding mail accounts in Mail in the new-user account. I imported the mail messages from the non-working Mail application in original user account. I was able to import folders from old account into the newly created account's folders. Basically I didn't loose any mail. I did not copy over any of the various preferences files associated with Mail. (files ending in .plist)
So this is where i am now. I am going to do some research regarding any library, pref files etc. that are associated with the Mail. I plan on trashing all those files in my original user account and all data/message files which have already been imported into the new user account.
My next step will be the transfer the entire Mail folder located at newuser/library/Mail to the original user account in the same location. I will also be replacing any of the pref files mentioned above that I find which are Mail related. With fingers crossed, hopefully Mail will be working fine, just as it now in my newuser account. Wish me luck.
I'll log back on later to let you know the results. It's a very time consuming process. <sigh>

  • IOS 7 on iPhone 5 - Mail problems

Updated my iPhone 5 to iOS 7 today, everything seems to be working fine except for Mail. When I tap the Mail app, it opens to the "Welcome to Mail" screen, and it asks me to select my mail carrier and e-mail address, password, etc, just like I did when I first set up the phone after purchase. However, when I do that, it says "That account has already been added to your iPhone". I can't get to my actual e-mail screens, the app always opens to the "Welcome to Mail" screen. Never had any problems like this before iOS 7. Anyone else experiencing this, and/or have any suggestions? I have already restarted the phone several times, but no change.

Ouch!  Hope you get that solved.  How frustrating.  (passwords can have encoding issues - but that does not sound likely in this case)
I am having a similar problem to your initial issue with the app being stuck on the 'Welcome' screen and this is with a new phone 5S I bought yesterday AM.  I set up the mail accounts on the phone manually and played with the phone all day - then came home and restored from my backup to get all my contacts etc installed.  Stupid me.... (smile)
I was forced into an OS upgrade - and had some issue with the 7.01 upgrade (it was the size of the 1.4 GB download through my DSL connection) - but that finally took and everything is fine except for the mail app.
It is stuck on the Welcome screen - forcing me to setup new accounts - but those accounts already exist as seen in the Settings->General->Mail screens.  I even went so far as to setup a new account for a Yahoo account I don't use.  I could only get to the Yahoo mail and no others.
Very odd.  I will delete the existing mail accounts (all imap so no problem, really) and reconfigure them.
Certainly hope that takes care of the situation.  How unfortunate since email is perhaps the number one app I use on my phone.

  • Niche iPhone (ios6?) e-mail problem - can't delete

    Hi there,
I was lucky enough to get an iphone 5 on the release day.  I connected my iPhone 5 account with my work e-mail (using exchange) and with other pop e-mail accounts that I have.  Push is working great on my work e-mail account, however, I seem to be having an e-mail deletion problem.  Here is what happened:
I received a calendar invite from a co-worker in e-mail format.  I accepted the invite through outlook on my computer (when you accept it, it auto-deletes the invite e-mail from your inbox and replies with an acceptance notice).  So now, my work inbox is empty.  However, on my iphone, it still shows the invite in the inbox.  When I attempt to delete the e-mail from my iphone, it says that the message cannot be moved or deleted, so it just stays there.  The only way to get rid of the e-mail is to delete that mail account, and then re-add it to my phone.
This also happened on a separate pop-connected e-mail address.  I deleted an e-mail through a webmail interface, the iphone wouldn't see that the e-mail was deleted (even after attempting to sync multiple times) and when attempting to delete it through the Mail app, I received a message stating that the e-mail can't be deleted or moved.
Anyone else having this problem, any suggestions?
    Thanks for the help.

If your device is signed into an old iCloud ID, and if it is an earlier version of your current ID*, do the following:
Make sure you are signed into iMessage and FaceTime with your current ID.  If they are signed into the old ID, go to Settings>Messages>Send & Receive and Settings>FaceTime, tap the ID, sign out, then sign back in with your current ID.
Then temporarily recreate the old ID by going to https://appleid.apple.com, click Manage my Apple ID and sign in with your current iCloud ID.  Click edit next to the primary email account, change it back to your old email address and save the change.  (You should not have to verify the old email account so it doesn’t matter if you no longer have access to it.)  Now go to Settings>iCloud, turn off Find My iDevice and enter your current password when prompted (even though it prompts you for the password for your old ID).  Then go to Settings>iCloud, tap Sign Out (or Delete Account if you are not running iOS 8) and choose Delete from My iDevice when prompted (your iCloud data will still be in iCloud).  Next, go back to https://appleid.apple.com and change your primary email address back to the way it was.  Now you can go to Settings>iCloud and sign back in with your current iCloud ID and password (your data will download back to your device).
    * If that's not the case, you'll have to contact the Apple account security team and ask for assistance resetting the password for the old ID: Apple ID: Contacting Apple for help with Apple ID account security.  You'll have to be able to prove your identity to them before they will do this.
