  • Everything on my Macbook Pro with Mavericks runs very slowly

I have a 13" macbook pro with Mavericks operating system, and it is only a little over a year old. In the last 2 or 3 months everything on the computer has been running incredibly slowly.
I first noticed it when streaming online videos, the audio would be several seconds ahead of the video, but the lagging has started everywhere else too. When I type the text appears several seconds after it has been typed, it takes much longer than it should to scroll down webpages and the cursor often freezes, I have even noticed a very long lag switching between webpages or applications.
I have very few things saved on this computer, just some Word documents and pictures. I did have Sims 3 installed but I uninstalled it thinking it may be the problem.
I have also noticed a very audible metallic plinking noise that could be unrelated. It started ] maybe 2 months before the lagging did and sounds like it's coming from the bottom right hand corner of the computer. I'm considering resetting my computer to factory settings because I haven't been able to find anything to fix this issue.

The hard drive is located in the bottom right of your model and I experienced a very similar issue twice in less than a year of purchase. I suggest you back all your data up as soon as possible as it may be the signs of a hard drive beginning to fail. My symptoms were it would take longer to start up and I would get the spinning ball when I secondary clicked. Before it would fail, I would try and repair errors found in disk utility and it would say it could not be repaired, back up as much data as you can. By that point, it was too late to back anything up. From there, I would get a loading bar on startup and once it loaded, it would shut down.  But it could be a less serious issue as well. It could also be the SMC, PRAM, or errors in your hard drive's coding. But before you follow these steps, back all your stuff up that you want or need in case it is your hard drive. Boot the machine into recovery mode by holding in command and r as soon as you turn it on. After it loads, you should get a box to pick your language. Select your language and select disk utility. In there, click Macintosh HD and verify the disk. If anything appears in red text, there are errors that need to be fixed. All you have to do is click repair. If it says they can't be repaired and to back up your data, your hard drive may have failed. To reset the SMC, plug in the mac and shut it down. On the left side, located the control, option, and shift keys. Hold those down along with the power button. Hold it for a few seconds and let them go. It's normal the machine won't turn on and the light on the charger will change state. Next, reset the PRAM. Shut down the Mac and located command, option, P, and R on your keyboard. You're going to turn on the Mac and as soon as you do so, hold those four keys down. It's going to shut down immediately but keep holding them in. It will turn on and make the "bong" noise like it normally does. Let it cycle about two or three times and let the keys go and wait for it to start up.
I hope this helps and good luck!

There are unsupported mechanisms of doing what you want. You can search for iTunesFS.
Garage Band should allow you to send Ring Tones to the 3GS via iTunes - GarageBand '11: Send an iPhone ringtone to iTunes

I am trying to find an app or software to burn iMovie 11 slideshow to a dvd.  I have a MacBook Pro with Mavericks.  There are a lot of DVD Creator apps at the App store. Looking for a recommendation of what to use and tips. Thank you.

I've been using "Burn" for years and it has been the only DVD burning software I have ever used for the mac. I have never needed to look at other apps. Unless you want something that has more bells and whistles such as Roxio's "Toast" : http://www.roxio.com/enu/products/toast/pro/overview.html
There are thousands of quality free apps out there for the mac that are not part of the App Store. All you have to do is read reviews online, do a little search, the Apple forums are full of recommendations from experienced users that have been here for years...

  • I have a cd rom for my italian class, which I cannot open on my macbook pro with mavericks installed, someone said I need Rosetta! Help please

I have a cd rom for my italian class, but am unable to load it on my macbook pro with Mavericks installed.
Someone has said i need Rosetta, but understand that Apple stopped installing this!1
Can anyone suggest anything to help me??

Many educational CDs have not been upgraded due to lack of funds in the educational market to pay for the such updates.
This situation is due primarily to the fact that one of the major political parties in this country favors tax cuts to the rich while cutting federal educational support funding (or eliminating the federal Department of Education altogether).
However, you can restore Rosetta and run your educational CD if you install Snow Leopard Server ($20) into Parallels (up to $79) for use in Lion/Mt. Lion/Mavericks:

You are still under warranty.  Call Apple Care. Make sure you get a case number as all repairs have an additional 90 days of warranty.
#1 - You have 14 days from the date of purchase to return your computer with no questions asked.
#2 - You have 90 days of FREE phone tech support.
#3 - You have the standard one year Apple warranty.
#4 - If you've purchased an AppleCare Protection Plan, your warranty last for 3 years.   You can obtain AppleCare anytime up to the first year of the purchase of your computer.
Take FULL advantage of your warranty.  Posting on a message board should be done as a last resort and if you are out of warranty or Apple Care has expired.

Any OS version of 10.8.4 or later has all features that are not OS depended. The plugins are one example. You probably haven't updated all versions of Logic Pro X to the latest one.

  • Retina Macbook Pro with Mavericks freezes

So ever since I upgraded to OS X Mavericks I've been having a really annoying issue. Usually around once a day (or every couple of days) my computer will freeze. First usually one program freezes (like Google Chome or Microsoft Word) and then when I open up the Force Quit window other applications will start freezing (as well as the Force Quit window itself!) and after a little bit my entire computer is just frozen. I've found that the only way to fix this issue is to force my computer to restart by holding down the power button. I've tried writing to Apple about this (multiple times!) but haven't gotten a single response. If you have any ideas on what might be causing this or how I could try fixing it that would be greatly appreciated.
If it helps, I have a 2012 15-inch Macbook Pro with Retina Display.
    Thanks in advance!

Wow this is weird...The only real thing we have in common are the freezing and the operating system. Sometimes if I leave it for 10 or 20 minutes it'll unfreeze and pretend nothing happened, but usually I have to hit the power button.
I have a brand new (Nov 2013) retina macbook pro, 13 inch, and it came with mavericks pre-installed. I don't have any Microsoft products installed. It freezes so randomly that I don't see any pattern with apps that I have open.
I figured it was just a buggy version and apple would fix it soon. But still waiting.
Have you tried a fresh reinstall? If this keeps up I might try that.
Does you keyboard freeze up? I just noticed that the back-lighting on the keyboard of my laptop doesn't go on during the freeze. I guess that means the keyboard has no power to do anything about the freeze.
I noticed in your shot of your screen, microsoft word wasn't giving you any problems...only the native apple apps.
Here's one of my freezes. What a beauty eh?
EDIT*** I tried pasting an image but didn't show up after posting this reply...oh well, It was similar to your one.

  • Unpredictable reboots on my early 2008 Macbook Pro with Mavericks

    Hello,
    My situation:
    1) First problem I encountered was kernel panic on startup. I fixed it fixed by replacing new AppleSMC.kext by older one from 10.8.* version I suppose  (i used KextWizard).
    2) Time after time MacBook restarts and then shows white screen with a message "your computer restarted because of a problem" (or something very similar). I'm able to start system after Cmd+Option+P+R and safe mode.
    3) If I don't use the way described in point 2, I receive kernel panics with reboot (screenshots made in verbose boot mode attached).
Any help will be highly appreciated.

Having "performed all of the iSight Troubleshooting", you have already reinstalled OS X, Firefox, and Chrome, updated all of them to the latest versions, uninstalled all third-party mirroring software, and tested in more than one OS X login user account.
If you now restart your Mac and launch only Photo Booth, does not the PB window now display the image your camera is viewing?
If the answer is no, even for the simple Photo Booth app, we are left wondering how scratch.mit.edu (a Flash-based web site) can find a working camera when using the Chrome browser.
If the answer is still no, my first suggestion would be to click the "Check Now" button in your  > System Preferences... > Flash > Advanced menu command.  If there is a later update, apply it, and test your camera again using Apple's iSight troubleshooting suggestions.
If you were already using the current Flash version, or if updating it does not change any troubleshooting results, I would try reinstalling OS X one more time in case you had a bad download or install on your previous try.  Then test again with Apple's troubleshooting suggestions.

  • How to make boot disk for MacBook Pro with Mavericks pre-installed

    Hi -
I recently bought a new 15" MacBook Pro with Retina Display, which came pre-installed with Mavericks (10.9.0).  I want to make a bootable USB disk of the system software, and have successfly used DiskMaker X (formerly Lion DiskMaker) to make the USB boot disks for Lion and Mountain Lion.  In those cases, however, I was running earlier versions of the OSX, and downloaded the new OSX version -- Lion and Mountain Lion -- from the App Store in order to make to make the disk.  In this case, however, Mavericks was pre-installed, and I was unable to download it from the App Store (an alert said that it couldn't be installed on this computer... presumably because it was already installed).  I would apprecite any suggestions as to how I can create the boot disk without the ability to download Mavericks.  Thanks very much for any help anyone can provide.
    Shelly

Open App Store and locate the full installer download file (5.29 GBs) for 10.9.1. Download to your computer.
Make Your Own Mavericks, Mountain/Lion Installer
After downloading the installer you must first save the Install Mac OS X application. After the installer downloads DO NOT click on the Install button. Go to your Applications folder and make a copy of the installer. Move the copy into your Downloads folder. Now you can click on the Install button. You must do this because the installer deletes itself automatically when it finishes installing.
        2. Get a USB flash drive that is at least 8 GBs. Prep this flash drive as follows:
Open Disk Utility in your Utilities folder.
After DU loads select your flash drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the leftside list. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed.
Select the volume you just created (this is the sub-entry under the drive entry) from the left side list.
Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, check the button for Zero Data and click on OK to return to the Erase window.
Click on the Erase button. The format process can take up to an hour depending upon the flash drive size.
        3. Use DiskMaker X to put your installer clone onto the USB flash drive.
Make your own Mavericks flash drive installer using the Mavericks tool:
You can also create a Mavericks flash drive installer via the Terminal. Mavericks has its own built-in installer maker you use via the Terminal:
You will need a freshly partitioned and formatted USB flash drive with at least 8GBs. Leave the name of the flash drive at the system default, "Untitled." Do not change this name. Open the Terminal in the Utilities folder. Copy this command line after the prompt in the Terminal's window:
    sudo /Applications/Install\ OS\ X\ Mavericks.app/Contents/Resources/createinstallmedia --volume /Volumes/Untitled --applicationpath /Applications/Install\ OS\ X\ Mavericks.app --nointeraction
Press RETURN. Enter your admin password when prompted. It will not be echoed to the screen so be careful to enter it correctly. Press RETURN, again.
Wait for the process to complete which will take quite some time.
