Having issues with MacBook after PRAM reset.

Hello All,
I have a late 2009 MacBook, and have been having some minor performance issues and some problems with the trackpad. Changing system preferences failed to solve the problems I was experiencing so I decided to to a PRAM and NVRAM reset. Ever since the reset, I have been experiencing some new problems with the machine. Now, when I reboot I see no gray Apple screen. Nothing appears on the screen, in fact, until the log-in screen appears after about a minute. Second, I can no longer change the brightness with the keyboard commands, nor through system prefs. Lastly, I cannot wake the computer up after it enters sleep mode. I actually have to manually shut down the machine and turn it back on. Any ideas before I bring it to an expert?
Also--first reset was with OS X 10.5.8, then I upgraded to ML. Trackpad issues have cleared up a little but all other issues persist.
Thanks guys.
J

Try starting from the recovery disk and repairing the hard drive. Instructions from Apple:
OS X Lion or OS X Mountain Lion includes a built in set of utilities in the Recovery System. Restart your Mac and hold down the Command key and the R key (Command-R), and keep holding them until the Apple icon appears, indicating that your Mac is starting up.
Select and run Disk Utility. In DU select the startup disk and run Repair Disk.

  • Having issues with MacBook Pro and Verizon Mobile Hotspot

    Hey everyone,
I bought a MacBook Pro with the Lion OS. I recently switched to Verizon and got an HTC Thunderbolt so I could use it as a hotspot at home and when I travel.
The problem I am having is when I turn the Mobile Hotspot on is, it will connect and stay connected for anywhere from 2 to 10 minutes and then it will work intermittently after that until I turn it off. I've talked to Verizon Tech Support probably 30 times in the last 3 months about the issue. They sent me another SIM card and a new Thunderbolt at first. The issue did not go away, so they offered me a Samsung Charge. Got it and it did the same thing. So I told them to send me back a Thunderbolt, because its a better phone and the Charge was too glitchy.
I've been to the Apple Store twice now and they dont know why its happening either. The only thing that has remained constant throughout this whole troubleshooting process has been my MacBook Pro. My questions are: Is anyone else experiencing this type of behavior? and What could possibly be causing this issue?
Im a new Mac user, so Im not sure how to troubleshoot issues like this, or if there are compatibility issues Im not aware of.
    Thanks for your help,
    Matt

    Hi Matt,
Did this ever get resolved for you? I have the exact same problem except I'm running Snow Leopard on a MacBook and my phone is a Droid Incredible 2. When I use the hopstpot from a ThinkPad running Windows 7 or a System76 netbook running Linux Mint it works perfectly. But when I try to use my MacBook it connects for, like you said, anywhere between 3-10 minutes and then connection is intermittent and super slow. I haven't gone through the motions of contacting Verizon yet...
    Thanks,
    Aileen

  • Having Issues with Macbook to turn on

In the morning, I have issues getting the Macbook to turn on. If i put the puter in sleep mode the next morning and open, it does not come on, even if I hit "on" button. Only way to get it to turn on is to remove power cord. Does my setting need to be changed? And if so, which setting. Thanks

Hi MizLucy and welcome to Apple Discussions!
With an issue like this, the first thing to try would be [resetting the SMC|http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964] on your MacBook. Follow the steps in the link and see if it helps.
If not, post back here. We'll keep helping you.
    Best of luck.

  • Having issues with WiFi after upgrading to iOS 7.

After upgrading my iPhone 5 to iOS 7 I'm having WiFi issues that I didn't have with iOS 6.  For example, on my home network YouTube videos hang multiple times in a 1 minute video, Facebook pages with heavy duty graphics take forever or don't load, and running Ookla speed test, all the test are slower.  On every other computers in the house, download is faster than upload, except on the iPhone 5 with iOS 7.  Anyone else seen this?

Do the basics first. follow http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1398. I would also clear cookies and data in settings > safari.

  • Is anyone having issues with sound after upgrading RAM?

I recently bought a 2009 Mac Mini with 1GB of RAM. Everything was working fine so I decided to upgrade the RAM to make running more apps a little smoother.
I took it to KRCS (an Apple Premium Reseller) and they put in another 1GB stick. I took the MM home and booted it up but no chime. I loaded iTunes and songs wouldn't play. I couldn't even turn the volume up or down.
After taking it back to KRCS they verified all the connections were ok and everything was seated correctly, however the sound still wont work. They ran some hardware diagnostics and they said that it is showing that there is a sound devicde present but it isn't showing any input or output devices once booted in to OS X.
Has anyone else had this problem? Does anyone have any suggestions as to what could be causing this? Could it be a firmware issue do you think?
    Cheers,
    James

    Morning peeps
As mentioned I booked my Mac Mini in with an Apple Genius to see if they could shed any light on the problem. So I saw a very helpful guy called James (go figure 8-)) who looked first of all looked to see if there were any reported problems by Apple. He also had a look around the net to see if there were any suggestions but unfortunately this all proved to be fruitless. He then tried booting from a clean drive to see if it was a software issue but this again failed, leaving him a little stumped.
Finally after a few minutes of looking at verious hardware information he decided to look at the RAM as the Mac was reporting the new 1GB stick I had installed was from a different manufacturer. Again no luck and at this point I knew what was comming...
"It doesn't look like I will be able to fix the problem today."
After all his efforts he couldn't seem to solve the issue so the next stange involves replacing some of the hardware. He showed me that he had gone ahead and ordered a new sound board, the ribbin that connects it to the main board and something else which escapes me at the moment, all of which is covered under the waranty.
So after all that the issue still remains. My Mac Mini is at the Apple Store at the moment and is awaiting the new parts to be installed. James was confident that it could be fixed with these new parts, however he did say that if it couldn't be fixed then Apple would replace it with a new one. He also mentioned that they would try and get the RAM upgrade working once the new hardware was fitted, but if that is unsuccessful he is going to give me the RAM back to get a refund at KRCS.
I think I have covered everything there - sorry if I started to ramble a bit
If you need any more information then I would be more than happy to help.
    Cheers,
    James

  • Issues with MacBook after waking from sleep

I use my MacBook with an external display, mouse and keyboard most of the time. Frequently, when I unplug and wake my MacBook from sleep, a few odd things will happen:
    - Finder (the desktop) will stop working. I usually have to restart it by pressing "Cmd Option Esc."
    - The graphical transition for Spaces will not initiate. Changing from one Space to another will be instant. Clicking on the Spaces icon and going back to the desktop fixes this issue.
    - The Dock will have a black pixel outline at the top. Again, initiating Spaces from the Dock fixes this issue.
    - If iTunes is open, clicking on another view from the source window (i.e., going from Music to Podcasts) will move the window location.
I've experienced these issues before I formatted my machine (I was also running a previous version of 10.5) so I'm going to rule out an OS issue on my end. But I'm thinking it could be software or hardware related - anyone have any similar issues?

I've been suffering from this too, and am currently trying this:
    http://www.ewal.net/2012/09/09/slow-wake-for-macbook-pro-retina/
Seems to be tied to this 'Power Nap' feature.  I tuned it for 12 hours instead of 24.

  • Am I the only one (still...) having issues with Bluetooth after upgrading to iOS 8.1...?

    Hi fellas,
I guess my expectation level was way too high regarding this upgrade from iOS 8.0.2 to 8.1: my iPhone 6 still can't connect to Bluetooth peripherals, whatever they may be...
I have a MacBook Pro running Snow Leopard, and a PC with Windows 8.1 update on it, and none of them can pair with the iPhone, no matter how hard I try.
Have you guys found workaround measures or (hopefully) solutions?
I swore today was my last day going to work with the crappy Apple-issue headphones that came with the phone, and I'd pack my faithful Sony Ericsson BT to work tomorrow...

Your english is very good! For Handoff/Continuity to work you need Bluetooth turned on on both devices and they need to be in range of each other -- but you do NOT go to the Bluetooth setting on either device and pair them. I know that is unusual and can think of no other case where that is done using Bluetooth, but that is how it works for Handoff & Continuity.
The following are the other things needed from Connect your iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, and Mac using Continuity
    How to get started:
Sign in to the same iCloud account on all your devices.
Turn on Bluetooth on all the devices you want to use. Make sure your devices are near each other.
Connect all your devices to the same Wi-Fi network.
    Turn off Handoff
To turn off Handoff on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, go to Settings > General > Handoff & Suggested Apps, and turn off the setting.
On your Mac, go to System Preferences > General and deselect the option to allow Handoff.
    Phone calls
With Continuity, you can make and receive cellular phone calls from your iPad, iPod touch, or Mac when your iPhone is on the same Wi-Fi network.
To make and receive phone calls, here's what you need:
Sign in to the same iCloud account on all your devices, including your Mac.
Your iPhone and your iPad or iPod touch need to use iOS 8 or later. Your Mac needs to use OS X Yosemite.
All devices must be on the same Wi-Fi network.
All devices must be signed in to FaceTime using the same iCloud account. This means any device that shares your Apple ID will get your phone calls. Look below for instructions on how to turn off iPhone cellular calls.
Wi-Fi Calling needs to be off. Go to Settings > Phone. If you see Wi-Fi Calling, turn it off.

  • Is anyone having issues with trackpad after install lion?

Since I have installed Lion(clean install from flashdrive) my track pad makes me "click" and hold to move windows around. I use to be able to just "tap" without fully compressing the trackpad. Is anyone else having this issue?
    Thanks

I've noticed peculiarities with the trackpad on both Mac laptops as well as the Magic Trackpad on our home iMac since updating to Lion.
The biggest one is random right-click only where it seems the touchpad gets stuck in right-click mode. The only way to stop it is to "tap" rather than click and it seems to fix it. Otherwise, I've not had problems with dragging or anything.
What you may try is turning the option off/on again in Trackpad under System Preferences that is giving you problems. I had this problem on our home iMac with the Magic Trackpad with three-finger drag. Works fine now.

I am still having keyboard issues after installing 8.0.2.  Phone is useless now.  Please provide help ASAP.

what help do you need?  What are the "issues" you're having?
If you don't provide any information, you can't possibly expect a helpful answer.

  • Display issue with Macbook after SL upgrade

    Hi,
I have a 2007 13" MacBook which I use to drive an external video projector via a mini-DVI to HDMI adapter (external video monitor set to 1080p@24Hz). It manages 1080p, just barely, with some hiccups on complex material. But the signal itself is a nice, clean (and pretty) 1080p.
I thought that upgrading from Leopard to Snow Leopard, with a clean (formatted) install, would somehow get rid of some junk background processes and make the machine run a bit smoother.
However, since installing SL, performance in 1080p is even worse than it was — the video has a deal-breaking "strobe" effect (i.e. the video updates only every 2nd or 3rd frame).
Mirroring the display instead of using a secondary monitor plays smoothly, but then of course I don't get 1080p.
What could possibly be the cause of this? Is SL a downgrade in terms of performance with 2007 machines? Can anything be done with the graphics subsystem to make it run better?
    Thanks for your help.

I would take this to an Apple store for a definitive diagnosis.  This will be free.  Bring the screen shot with you.
Then you will know exactly what you are dealing with and be able to determine what will be involved in rectifying the problem and the associated costs.
    Ciao.

  • Anyone having issues with MacBook Pro2,2 with sleep and Mountain Lion?

Since installing Mountain Lion on my MacBook Pro (2,2, June 2007), I am unable to put my machine to sleep. I close cover and the fan keeps running.
Anybody have any ideas how to fix this?

Scroll through this board to see the varied problems with ML, I don't think Apple even bothered to test Logic with ML,  many problems with interface freeze/lag, also some problems with audio stuttering. Don't know how much longer Snow Leopard will be supported but I'm staying there as long as possible. Sorry I don't have better news.

  • Is anyone else having issues with texting after the iOS8, with a iPhone 4s?

The messages app on my iPhone is not responding. I click on the message button and i get a white screen for 30 seconds and then goes back to the home screen.

    Hello, cliffiapp4.
Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.
Here are the steps that I would recommend going through when experiencing this issue.
    Resolution
If a single application is not responding or stops responding when it opens, you can force it to close.
If the device is unresponsive or if certain controls aren't working as expected, restart your device.
If the device remains unresponsive or does not turn on (or power on), reset your device.
If the above steps do not resolve the issue, contact Apple.
