Having more than four tabs open causes Firefox to become non-responsive, lagging for sometimes up to 5 minutes and can't close it without task manager.

If I try to open a fifth tab, or try to pin a tab Firefox mutes, or whites out and the mouse freezes. When this happens the title bar states that it is, "unresponsive." I either have to wait until it starts moving again to restart it because I have no close button, and this takes up to 5 minutes and sometimes even more, or I have to crash it using the task manager (ctrl + alt + del) when it takes longer. Also, any time I try to pin a tab it does the same thing with a single pinned tab. If I try to open firefox after a crash, it immediately becomes unresponsive for an even longer time.

Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).

  • Problem with closing other firefox windows when window in use has more than 1 tab open

If I have multiple firefox windows open, and the one that I am using has more than one tab open, when I try to close one of the windows that I am not using by hovering over the firefox icon on the taskbar, then clicking the cross on the other windows, a message appears asking me if I want to close a window with more than one tab open. This means that firefox is trying to close the window that I'm using, not the one I'm trying to close. Please note this only happens when I hover over the icon on the taskbar then click the cross for the window I want to close. If I open the window properly, then click the cross on the window itself, it works fine.
Just wanted to know if anyone else has this problem, and if they do, then mozilla should probably fix it in their next update, it's getting really annoying now

I can't find a bug on file for this on https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/ (although there are many taskbar-related issues under review).
    (1) Just to confirm, do you both have "Show tab previews in the Windows taskbar" turned off here:
orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Options > Tabs
    (2) Have you tried disabling Firefox use of hardware graphics acceleration?
You usually need to restart Firefox in order for this to take effect, so save all work first (e.g., mail you are composing, online documents you're editing, etc.).
orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Options > Advanced
On the "General" mini-tab, uncheck the box for "Use hardware acceleration when available"
If you restart Firefox, do you notice any changes?

  • When I have more than one tab open, if I click on a picture to view, when the window opens to view the photo, firefox crashes. I also notice while looking at a web page, the pinned tabs to the left of the bar are constantly reloading for some reason.

When I have more than one tab open, if I click on a picture to view/enlarge, say eBay, and I click on the items photo to enlarge it, when the window opens to view the photo, Firefox crashes. I also notice while looking at a web page, the pinned tabs to the left of the bar are constantly reloading for some reason, The green circle starts going round and round for no reason even though the tab is not being viewed. Both problems seem to have started after the last software update.

  • With more than one tab open in private browsing, how do I leave private browsing all at once?

Before the latest Firefox update I was able to close a private browsing session by selecting the STOP menu item and checking the appropriate selection in a pop up dialogue box. Now, when I have more than one tab open in private browsing, I can't end the session by selecting STOP. The dialogue box opens and offers a START option instead of a STOP option. The same is true using CONTROL+SHIFT+P. To work around the situation I need to close all but one tab and then stop the session. I want to go back to the way it was before the update and opt out of a private session entirely, regardless of how many windows or table are open, with the former two-step process.

Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problems.
See "Basic Troubleshooting: Make a new profile":
There may be extensions and plugins installed by default in a new profile, so check that in "Tools > Add-ons > Extensions & Plugins" in case there are still problems.
If that new profile works then you can transfer some files from the old profile to that new profile, but be careful not to copy corrupted files.

  • After using Tab Groups earlier today, now anytime I close FF with more than 1 tab open, FF does NOT ask me to confirm before closing

After using Tab Groups earlier today, now anytime I close FF with more than 1 tab open, FF does NOT ask me to confirm before closing. FF always has asked me to confirm in the past and no settings were changed prior to trying the Tab Groups. Then when I reopen FF all the tabs that I had open are still there. I've tried refreshing FF and clearing history but that didn't work. It's almost as though FF thinks the window and tabs I have open are a tab group and it won't let me get rid of that group. How do I stop the Tab Groups now that I got them? Or is there something else going on? None of this was happening until I played with the Tab Groups this morning. I was curious what it was --- that's going to get me killed one of these days lol.

Thanks. Somehow the "Show my windows and tabs" box had gotten checked. I know I didn't check that box and the "Warn me when closing multiple tabs" box has always been checked. Like I said, it was all working fine until I tried the tab groups so I'm wondering if maybe that checks the "Show my windows and tabs" box by default?
Anyway, it's fixed now. Thanks so much!

  • With more than one window open in firefox 4 I starts to drain my memory

With mozilla 4 I have more than one window open and my memory which has 2 gigs in it starts to drain and then everything freezes.

Which Windows platform shouldn't make much difference. The screenshot may look as coming from an older Windows version, but the basics should be the same.
If it does work in Safe-mode then disable all extensions and then try to find which is causing it by enabling one at a time until the problem reappears.
*Use "Disable all add-ons" on the [[Safe mode]] start window to disable all extensions.
    * Close and restart Firefox after each change via "File > Exit" (Mac: "Firefox > Quit"; Linux: "File > Quit")

  • Taskbar previews are not shown when there are more than 20 tabs across all Firefox windows unless tabs are in groups.

System details: Windows 8.1, Firefox 34.0.5.
Until today, I have not used the Tab Groups function. Today I just used it in troubleshooting this issue.
I noticed that when I have lots of Firefox windows open, I can't see taskbar previews for all the open tabs. The taskbar previews only show the active tab for any specific Firefox window. After some investigation I found that if I have 20 or fewer tabs open (in one Firefox window or across multiple Firefox windows) I can see taskbar previews for all the tabs. More than 20 tabs and the taskbar previews change to show only the active tab for each Firefox window.
After a little more investigation I found that I can see more than 20 taskbar tab previews if I use the Tab Groups function. I don't need to actually organize my tabs into groups, just to invoke the Tab Group function in each window. Trouble is, the tab groups do not survive after closing Firefox. I think this is probably because of an extension I use called Session Manager. Since I am not ready to give up the extension, I wonder if I can change the taskbar preview behavior to show more than 20 tab previews in the taskbar without using the tab groups function.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

I am not entirely sure, but this menu should change that preview in your OS:
Control Panel > Taskbar > Taskbar Properties > Jump Lists change the number from 10 to the number of tabs
If it doesn't please see Windows support for help.

  • How do I use more than four PDOs when working with NI-Industrial Communications for CANopen?

When I call CANopen TPDO Create.vi to create TPDO objects I can only input PDO1 through PDO4. How do I work with more than four PDOs?
I see the other forum thread using an older version of CANopen, but it does not appear to directly translate into the newer NI-Industrial Communications for CANopen.
    http://forums.ni.com/t5/Automotive-and-Embedded-Networks/PDOs-on-a-CANopen-network/m-p/405001?requir...

    Hi wireman,
A good resource for CANopen is available here.  That page explains that typically in the CANopen standard, there are only 4 predefined PDOs in each direction (transmit and receive).  To use extra PDOs, additional configuration is required.  The configuration of the predefined PDO Channels refers to the COB-ID that they are linked to by default.
According to the LabVIEW help files, the COB-ID is 'calculated' by adding the value of the PDO Channel and the Node ID, if the COB-ID is zero.  However, if the COB-ID is explicitly defined, then LabVIEW will ignore the calculation provided by the Node ID and PDO Channel.  So, if you need more than the four PDOs, you'll need to use the COB-ID input to differentiate which channel is being referenced.
I hope this clears some things up, and please don't hesitate to ask for more advice.

  • Now that I was sent by Microsoft to your download update site to get the latest version 4.0.1, Firefox crashes (becomes non-responsive) before opening any site page I try. When will you fix this problem?

For two weeks I have tried to use your automatic download of the latest version 4.0.1. It would sit there telling me it is trying to connect to the download computer for hours, several times overnight. Then, it became non-responsive and error messages were sent to Microsoft who directed me to your download site. After downloading your latest version several times, the new page would open. After selecting a bookmarked site, it would open (sometimes only partially) but when I tried to scroll down, it would freeze up and become non-responsive, again prompting error messages to Microsoft. They must be getting a kick out of this. I'm running a Gateway 7200S desktop with Microsoft XP and Intel single range Pentium 4 processor. I have been using your Mozilla Firefox as my default browser for several years with much satisfaction. Unfortunately, whatever upgrades were made have rendered it useless for me.

I have had a similar problem with my system. I just recently (within a week of this post) built a brand new desktop. I installed Windows 7 64-bit Home and had a clean install, no problems. Using IE downloaded an anti-virus program, and then, because it was the latest version, downloaded and installed Firefox 4.0. As I began to search the internet for other programs to install after about maybe 10-15 minutes my computer crashes. Blank screen (yet monitor was still receiving a signal from computer) and completely frozen (couldn't even change the caps and num lock on keyboard). I thought I perhaps forgot to reboot after an update so I did a manual reboot and it started up fine.
When ever I got on the internet (still using firefox) it would crash after anywhere between 5-15 minutes. Since I've had good experience with FF in the past I thought it must be either the drivers or a hardware problem. So in-between crashes I updated all the drivers. Still had the same problem. Took the computer to a friend who knows more about computers than I do, made sure all the drivers were updated, same problem. We thought that it might be a hardware problem (bad video card, chipset, overheating issues, etc.), but after my friend played around with my computer for a day he found that when he didn't start FF at all it worked fine, even after watching a movie, or going through a playlist on Youtube.
At the time of this posting I'm going to try to uninstall FF 4.0 and download and install FF 3.6.16 which is currently on my laptop and works like a dream. Hopefully that will do the trick, because I love using FF and would hate to have to switch to another browser. Hopefully Mozilla will work out the kinks with FF 4 so I can continue to use it.
I apologize for the lengthy post. Any feedback would be appreciated, but is not necessary. I will try and post back after I try FF 3.16.6.

  • How do I get firefox to open with only one tab I accidentally saved when I had more than 1 tab open now it opens too slowly and I want to change it back

when I first installed and used firefox I went to close and did not realize that I had an additional tab open and it asked me if I wanted to save I clicked the yes when I meant to not save. Now I can not find anywhere that will let me unsave the extra tab so that it will not open everytime I open firefox

If you only have the Firefox button then press F10 to get the Menu Bar or go to Firefox > Options > Options > General > Startup

  • Why does my firefox 6.0.1 go not responding every time I open a second tab? I need to have more than 1 tabs open for what I'm doing.

Details: I open browser to go to page. From there I open second page which I've always been able to do and it won't load. It says no responding and sits there forever deciding what to do. Then it will finally say something about stop running script, which I just let it run or x it out. Either way, it shuts down or it might load or just sit there. I've always loved firefox but I'm it's upsetting me as I can't do things on my computer now I need to do.

Try the Firefox SafeMode to see how it works there. <br />
    ''A troubleshooting mode, which disables most Add-ons.'' <br />
''(If you're not using it, switch to the Default Theme.)''
    * You can open the Firefox 4/5/6/7 SafeMode by holding the '''Shft''' key when you use the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
    * Or use the Help menu item, click on '''Restart with Add-ons Disabled...''' while Firefox is running. <br />
''Don't select anything right now, just use "Continue in SafeMode."''
''To exit the Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds before using the Firefox shortcut (without the Shft key) to open it again.''
If it is good in the Firefox SafeMode, your problem is probably caused by an extension, and you need to figure out which one. <br />

I like when I open internet explorer and I've already have several tabs opened (e-mails, news, radio station). I've tried to do the same with your browser and I wasn't successful. Is it possible? How do I do it?

  • It is necessary for me to have more than one window open in Firefox, and the command (New Window) no longer works. How do I have two different websites open at the same time on separate displays?

I used to be able to open two Firefox windows at a time, with one website on one display and another website on another display. Now when I select New Window, nothing happens.

You can tear off a tab (right-click: Move to New Window) to open it in another window and resize both windows so you see them at the same time.
