Having problems updating (buying) OS X Mountain Lion. I believe I have whats needed,

Hi, I am having problems when trying to buy OS X Mountain Lion. When trying to download it I get that my computer is not compatible.
What can I do (have updated and now have OS X 10.6.8)?
What is second best (if I cant get Mountain Lion)?
B/r Jedinger

The following macs are compatible with Mountain Lion
iMac (Mid 2007 or newer)
MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer)
MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer)
Xserve (Early 2009)
MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer)
Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer)
Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer)
If your computer doesn't meet these, Lion is the next step up from Snow Leopard.

  • I'm having problems with reinstalling OS X Mountain Lion

I tried to reinstall OS X Mountain Lion :-
I click on continue and I get following message "to download and restore OS X, your computer's eligibility will be verified with Apple" with two buttons Cancle and continue.
Once I've Clicked on Continue Ig et another message "Could Not find installation information for this machine contact apple" with OK button.
I need My Mac for work tomorrow please please Help me Urgent.

I think that's likely the problem, then. The machine probably originally came with an earlier version of OS X and was updated to Mountain Lion using another persons Apple ID.
You don't say which model you have (e.g., "15-inch Late 2011") but I'm betting that it came with installation discs with an earlier version of OS X. Do you have the discs? If not, the only way to get them is to order a set, using your serial number, from Apple. Cost is around $20 + shipping and taxes.
Look for your serial number on the back of the machine - it will usually be very faint. When you get it, go to -> http://www.chipmunk.nl/klantenservice/applemodel.html - and enter your serial number. It will pull up a page with your model and the original version of OS X that shipped with that model. You'll know then if you need to order discs (and it certainly sounds as if you're going to need those discs).
    Good luck,
    Clinton

  • Is anyone else having problems running Flash Player on Mountain Lion?

After installing Flash Player on my MacBook Pro running Mountain Lion, my computer started crashing when I put it to sleep.  When I uninstalled Flash, I no longer had the problem.  Is anyone else having problems like this with Flash Player?  Is this an issue with Mountain Lion or Adobe?  Is there a fix for it, or am I just out of luck with the prospect of running Flash Player on my new Mac?

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of this exercise is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login. Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode* and log in to the account with the problem. The instructions provided by Apple are as follows:
Be sure your Mac is shut down.
    Press the power button.
Immediately after you hear the startup tone, hold the Shift key. The Shift key should be held as soon as possible after the startup tone, but not before the tone.
Release the Shift key when you see the gray Apple icon and the progress indicator (looks like a spinning gear).
*Note: If FileVault is enabled under OS X 10.7 or later, or if a firmware password is set, you can’t boot in safe mode.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including wireless networking on certain Macs.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem(s)?
After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

  • Anyone else having problems with Mail after installing Mountain Lion?

Since upgrading to mountain lion, I have had a number of problems with Mail.  At the moment, it is predominantly when my desktop imac goes to sleep overnight. In the morning, it will not receive mail. The app will not close, so I force quit it.  Trying to reopen Mail after that just does not happen, so I have to restart my machine to get things going again. Any tips?

    If 10.7.0 or later...
Bootup holding CMD+r, or the Option/alt key to boot from the Restore partitirion & use Disk Utility from there to Repair the Disk, then Repair Permissions.
If that doesn't help Reinstall the OS.

  • Having problems drag'n'dropping in Mountain Lion

When dragging files around in OSX - they won't "drop" when released. Hardware is MBP late 2008 and Mac Pro late 2008.
Any help is much appreciated - have been looking forward to this update...
I've already tried these options: http://www.switchingtomac.com/tutorials/osx/cant-drag-and-drop-in-os-x-lion/

Deleting AirParrotDriver.kext & APExtFramebuffer.kext fixed it for me!! I used Easyfind to look for them and then delete them! Glad its over now!

  • Having trouble updating Java Runtime for OSX Lion

Is anyone having problems updating Java Runtime for OSX Lion?

I have the same problem.  It is not possible to launch the "Java Preferences" app.  When I do, I get the error message:
'To open “Java Preferences,” you need to install a Java runtime, but you are not connected to the Internet.'
I am *most certainly* connected to the internet, since I'm posting to this forum.

  • Problems with connection to the Mountain Lion

Someone is having problems with connection on Mac Mountain Lion? I did a clean install and the connection is unstable.

Have you tried to reset your network settings ?
What I would do is delete the connection, and then retry the set up of that connection.
System Preferences>Network, select Wi-Fi on the left and then click on the 'minus' button

  • I can't update to OS X Mountain Lion because I accidentally erased the Recovery HD. How do I solve this problem?

I tried to update to OS X Mountain Lion but it's not allowing me to do so. After calling Apple Care, I realized it's because my system is missing the recovery partition I should have. I remember I deleted it because I didn't know what it was. What do I do?

    louisleis wrote:
Yes, I can. I called them and they told me to back everything up and then call them back. That doesn't sound optimistic, right?
Yes, it does. It appears that they're going to have you run Disk Utility and wipe the MacHD. However, how you do that w/o a Recovery HD is beyond my ken. As for backing up, I wouldn't rely on Time Machine, but instead make a bootable backup/clone on an ext FWHD, ensure that it can boot the machine. Then, you can use that to wipe the MacHD.

If your friend purchased Mountain Lion, have them sign into the App Store using their Apple ID and download it again.

  • Problem installing PSE 8 on Mountain Lion

Hi, I'm having trouble installing PSE 8 on Mountain Lion. It worked just fine on Lion, then I upgraded to ML, and it wouldn't open. I deleted and tried to reinstall PSE 8, and have not gotten beyond the "Progress" pane with a message that "a required component has failed to install correctly", with the error:
    "Adobe Anchor Service
    Error:
    Error 2."
I have tried a bunch of different things; running the CS cleaner tool, disabling my virus software, repairing disk permissions, restarting my computer, and deleting all Adobe files from these locations:
/Users/<<username>>/Library/Application Support >> The Adobe folder
    /Users/<<username>>/Library/Preferences >> Anything with com.adobe
/Library/Application Support >> folder named Adobe
    /Library/Preferences >> Anything with com.adobe
    /Applications >> Application files
    /Applications/Utilities >> The Adobe Updater
I've even created another admin account on my computer and tried to install PSE 8 there, but I still get the same error.
Any help to get this sucker installed is greatly appreciated!
    Thanks!

I looked a little more into fixing the issue, and it turns out that I missed the top level Library > Application Support > Adobe folder. Once that was deleted, my problem was solved.
I did find this article helpful, for anyone else who is having similar issues: http://www.cultofmac.com/90060/how-to-completely-uninstall-software-under-mac-os-x-macrx/

  • Updated my mac to mountain lion 10.8.3 and now my app store, mail or facetime won't open. Also, I am not longer able to play videos through firefox. I tried downloading the combo for mountain lion and it refuses to install? Can anyone help me?

updated my mac to mountain lion 10.7.8.3 and now my app store, mail or facetime won't open. Also, I am not longer able to play videos through firefox. I tried downloading the combo for mountain lion and it refuses to install saying that I need to see developer. Whenever I try to open my appstore, mail or facetime it says that the programmes need to be installed and might not be compatible with this version of mac operating system. Can anyone help me?

It's not a bad install of Mountain Lion. I've had the same thing happen to me, but it affected not only Mail, but a variety of other programs including iPhoto and MS Office, where I had to delete preferences, caches, and reinstall the OS as well as the program itself. I'm still having issues with Mail, so I've gone to another program.
Everything was fine upon the initial install. I restarted my iMac about two weeks after the install, and that's when the issues began to happen. I've reinstalled Mountain Lion twice, but the same issues arise.
As I mentioned above, you'll need to figure out which preferences are causing the issue, then reinstall the program, as a fresh reinstallation will do you no good unless you wipe the drive completely.
Here's a thread that helped me with iPhoto:

  • Canon 860 Series (Pixma) Printer Problems with OSX 10.8 (Mountain Lion) – links to Canon Support Site with Drivers and Software with install tips

After spending several hours sorting out Canon Pixma OSX problems here are my thoughts:
Canon 860 Series (Pixma 868) Printer Problems with OSX 10.8 (Mountain Lion) – links to Canon Support Site with Drivers and Software with install tips
    Problem:
    - New imac and MacBook Pro 2012 (OSX 10.8.2) had a problem using Canon Pixma 868 printer on network and would not scan or print using Canon Pixma software (Pixma MP Navigator 2.1 & Photo Print), which has advanced scanning and photo printing functions.
    - When I connected the canon printer to my imac, OSX 10.8.2 automatically downloaded and installed drivers for Canon 860 series printer. I could then add the new printer (select ‘apple menu’ / ‘system preferences’ / ‘print and scan’ / “+”) and printer would work while connected via USB but could not get to print or scan over network wifi.
    - The original Canon 860 Series CD does not work with 10.8 and the manual / online instructions did not make sense (as based on CD install).
    Solution:
    1) Install Canon Printer Drivers and Software (from official Canon site)
Go to canon support site, review FAQ, then download and install following Pixma 860 Series software & drivers for OSX 10.8 (links see below). The version I downloaded is in brackets but check for updated version. Full instructions are below.
Canon 860 Series Drivers & Software  for OSX 10.8 Mountain Lion:
The base software and drivers needed for using Canon 860 Series on Mac OS X 10.8 (USB) are
    1 Printer Driver
(Canon MX860 series CUPS Printer Driver Ver. 10.67.1.0 (03-Aug-2012))
    2 Scanner Driver
(Canon MX860 series Scanner Driver Ver. 14.11.4a (03-Aug-2012))
    3 Network Tool
(Canon IJ Network Tool Ver. 4.1.0 for Intel Mac (27-Dec-2012)
Canon Software for using advanced printing and scanning functions (while connected to network)
    4 Solution Menu
    (Canon Solution Menu Ver. 1.4.1 (27-Jul-2012 ))
    5 MP Navigator EX
(Canon MP Nav EX Ver. 2.1.3 (02-Auf-2012))
    6 Easy-PhotoPrint EX
    (Canon Easy-PhotoPrint EX Ver. 4.1.6 (21-Jan-2013 ))
Canon Support (HK) – check your local site
    http://www.canon.com.hk/en/download/main/index.do
Select Product and drivers from support site eg http://support-hk.canon-asia.com/
    1. Choose a product category
    Multifunctional Printers
    2. Choose a product series
      Pixma
    3. Choose a product model
      Pixma MX868
    4. Choose type of document
    Downloads or FAQ
If you have problems installing the software under 10.8, see the FAQ on Canon site. You will need to allow software installs from “unidentified developers by using “Control” Key or by changing your system preferences)
    2) Check Canon Printer and Software Working while connected via USB
Once you have downloaded and installed drivers and software and restarted computer, check that the printer and Canon Pixma software (Pixma MP Navigator 2.1 & Photo Print) are working via USB.  Open the Canon IJ Network Tool App (Applications / Canon Utilities /IJ Network Tool / Canon IJ Network Tool App) and make sure you can see the Canon MX 860 series (xx.xx.xx.xx.xx.xx) and that it shows the correct SSID Wifi settings (under the Canon IJ Network Tool App ‘Setup menu’).  This is normally done as part of the automatic install but worth double checking
    3) Add new network printer using ‘apple menu’ / ‘system preferences’ / ‘print and scan’ / “+”).
After you have checked USB printing turn off printer, unplug the USB cable and shutdown the Canon IJ Network Tool App.
Then turn the printer back on and wait 30s. Then add a new printer using ‘apple menu’ / ‘system preferences’ / ‘print and scan’ / “+”). Once you select “+” (add new printer), wait 10-30s for the Wifi Networked Canon MX 860 Series printer to appear in the new window eg Canon MX 860 series (xx.xx.xx.xx.xx.xx) (Kind: “Canon IJ Network”)
DO NOT ADD THE MX 860 SERIES BONJOUR SCANNER (the Bonjour Scanner is the built-in software, is not needed and often appears first on the add printer list).  The Canon scanner can be accessed used through the MP Nav EX Ver. 2.1.3 software (which has much better functions)
You will now have two Printer Canon MX860 (USB) and Canon MX860 (Wifi / Network). Set the Canon MX860 (Wifi / Network) as default and test print and scan
If the Wifi Networked Canon MX 860 Series printer does not appear, check the printer and make sure that the printer can see the wifi network. On the printer select Menu / Settings / Device Settings / Lan Settings / WLAN Setting List.  It should say WLAN Active, identify the SSID and have an IP address
If the printer can not see the Wifi Network, plug the USB cable back in, then open the Canon IJ Network Tool App (Applications / Canon Utilities /IJ Network Tool / Canon IJ Network Tool App). Make sure you can see the Canon MX 860 series (xx.xx.xx.xx.xx.xx) and that it has your SSID settings (under setup), if it has this info, restart the computer and the printer and try again

I'd think you have a Keychain problem (Keychain storing passwords and the likes).
When you are being asked, are you offered the checkbox, "Remember this password in my Keychain"? If so, check and see if it stops asking.

at least that the operator has confirmed to me that he called me. I also have problems with either the start of the mac with the power off. I can not understand if it crashes or is just very very slow.
Finally, I have a problem with the external hard disck. I often said to have been ejected incorrectly (not true) and I start to restore the startup recovery disk because disk utility is ineffective from the normal operating system .. is a shocking thing, but how you reduced. in four years it had never happened. seem to have windows or worse. Wake up.

You are on Windows 2000, you do not have a "Firefox" button, and should consider yourself to be fortunate in that you still have menus and don't have to do anything to get the menus back instead of the "Firefox" button. (The same applies to Windows XP users).
Use the "File" menu to get to Import. You are not on Windows 7 or Vista, and don't have to put up with the nonsense added for Aero.
If you want the "Firefox" button you can get it with View -> toolbars -> (uncheck) Menu Bar. The menu bar and the "Firefox" button were supposed to be mutually exclusive (which is impossible in some cases without being incompatible).
Once you are using the "Firefox" button ...
Use the "Alt" key to view the menu bar (temporarily) containing File, Edit, View, History, Bookmarks, Tools, and Help. On Windows 7 and Vista, the menu bar was hidden by default in Firefox 4 and above. These menu items are more or less available under the "Firefox" button which has the most used of the built-in Firefox menu items available in a different format.
To get back to having menus again. "Firefox" button -> Options (second column) -> (check) Menu Bar
You can make '''Firefox 7.0.1''' look like Firefox 3.6.*, see numbered '''items 1-10''' in the following topic [http://dmcritchie.mvps.org/firefox/firefox-problems.htm#fx4interface Fix Firefox 4.0 toolbar user interface, problems (Make Firefox 4.0 thru 8.0, look like 3.6)]. I always run a Time Machine backup before updating anything and recommend you run a backup as well. Paid apps should migrate over without any problem. If you have problems with VPP codes not transfering over properly, you can talk to your Apple SE or contact VPP for Education support and they can help you. While I haven't experienced any problems with updating, its never a guarantee that others will have the same experience.
