Having problems with Canon Raw / Jpeg with Canon 5D

I have been noticing every time I open up a Raw file in CS2 the colors seem to be off and when I open up the Jpeg pic. they are compleatley different.  The Jpeg files colors really pop, where the Raw files look blowen out and take a lot of work in editing.
What am I doing wrong?  Do I need to upgrade to the CS4 package?  Or is it a camera setting that I am missing?
When I was shooting a Canon 10D both Raw and Jpeg were the same and the colors were good.  Thanks Keig

What you are seeing is the difference between how Canon develops the images and how Adobe develops the image (in CS2).  Your options are somewhat limited in CS2 but you can try the following:
Open up a 5D image in Camera Raw.
Make adjustments to make the image look as close to the Jpeg as you can.  This will probably mean adding some contrast, upping the shadows/blacks clipping point, and adding some saturation.
Save those settings as a new Camera Raw default.  I don't remember if that is in the same place it is now ("Save new camera raw default" from the fly-out menu on the tab bar) but look around and you should find it.
The hardest part will be trying to get a good match on the color.  An upgrade to CS4 would give you many enhancements to Camera Raw, including new Canon-like profiles that will give you 5D color similar to what you get in-camera or from Canon's Digital Photo Professional software.
Hope that helps.

When i open my Canon RAW-files with preview or transfer them to another program using preview they change to color despite the fact that they where all shot in B/W... How to change this?

    I shoot only RAW - no JPEG-files except those visualizing the files on my memorycard or computer. I think i have to refine my question;
    1. I know there is possible to make B/W HDR-images.
    2. I know the best HDR images are based on RAW-files.
    3. When i transfer the images in question to a HDR software they change, so when i view them in the software (either Preview or the HDR software) they are suddenly viewed (and processed) in color.
    4. This never happend on my PC so i know it has to do  with either Finder or Preview.
    5. Do i have to make all my B/W HDR-images on the PC or is it a way for me to change how Finder/Preview show/alter my images?

You haven't purchased apps with multiple Apple ID's have you? If you have, you can only sync with one Apple ID in the iTunes library at a time. Whichever ID you are signed into on the computer and the iPad would determine which apps would sync.
Have all of your apps been transferred into iTunes for your iPad?

  • Integrating Canon Raw Converter with Aperture (for G9)

This is a follow up question to an email I posted last night on Apertures incompatibility with Canon G9 Raw Format.
DOes anyone or has anyone tried to integrate the Canon Raw Converter that came with the G9 in with Aperture? I thought of it this morning. My thought is to identify the Canon Raw converter as the external editor. Changes can be made in Canon RAW then saved. There would be the additional picture created in Aperture that I can modify. Granted the saved format would need to be a jpeg or tiff file format.
Any thoughts? Has anyone tried this?
Also, what is a high quality format the file can be saved once changes are made in Canon RAW?
    Thanks

Using 'Open in External Editor' in Aperture tells Aperture to convert the RAW file to either a TIFF or PSD and send that to the external editor, not the RAW file. So if a camera is unsupported by Aperture you can't use the command...

  • Importing and editing Canon Raw images with iPhoto

    Imac 20" 2009 2,66 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 8 GB 1067 MHz DDR3, NVIDIA GeForce 9400 256 MB, Yosemite 10.10.2 iPhoto 9.6 (919.29)
    Canon Eos 5D mark III
After importing pictures as soon the editing window is open, the picture turn green as showed on the enclosed screenshot. The pictures remain green after edit.
Already tried to repair disc and permission via recovery function at restart, then because negative,
    Yosemite reinstalled.
Tried also different ways to import pictures without results.
Only the pictures imported with Yosemite are affected. Raw files already imported with Mavericks are fine.

Unfortunately I still have the problem. When importing pictures via Canon Utility in iPhoto, the editing window was fine. But shutting down iphoto and re-opening the problem appears. So the problem is not related to the importing method.
I confirm that these are the pictures imported after Yosemite intallation. With mavericks it was ok. The old pictures are not affected.
The problem is also present opening the library in Aperture. Enclosed an example of  my turned "green" Picture

  • Lightroom 1.4.1 won't read RAW  or RAW+JPEG from Canon Rebel Xsi

I use Windows. I started with LIghtroom 1. Technical support said Lightroom 1.4.1 update would let allow me to import RAW and RAW+JPEG files from Canon Rebel Xsi into Lightroom. I downloaded the update. Lightroom still will not recognize RAW or JPEG+RAW photos taken with my Canon Rebel Xsi. Lightroom will read straight JPEG photos taken with this camera. Any suggestions as to how I can fix this (e.g. be able to import RAW and RAW+JPEG files)? Sorry if there is a simple thing to fix to this or if I could have found the solution somewhere else on this site. I am a Lightroom novice and have been struggling with this issue for some time now. Thanks in Advance.

Thanks everyone for all your help! I am now able to import the RAW files. Steve and Don especially thanks so much! I am posting my solution in case someone out there has had the same problem.
In the past, using the prompt generated from within LR, I downloaded the update and ran the install. However using Don's information I realized the splash screen indicated 1.1 and the number did not match the build # provided by Don.
Based on this information, I went to the Adobe site, reran the download via the Adobe site (not LR) and reran the install. Of note, this install process gave different screens from when I ran install from the files downloaded accessed via the LR prompt. The biggest difference is that this time I got Adobe directions for how to execute the update. I next confirmed that I had the update files on the hard drive, opened the file as directed by Adobe and the install updated. However I was still getting the LR 1.1 splash screen.
Based on information posted elsewhere, I determined that I needed to delete the LR icon from my desktop. I moved "LR 1.4.1" from the start menu to the desktop. I now launch LR 1.4.1 when I hit the LR icon and I have successfully downloaded a boatload of RAW files. Thanks All! You are geniuses!

  • RAW+JPEG with unsupported RAW

I'm now using a Panasonic Lumix DMC-L1 (and really liking it), whose RAW files aren't yet supported by Aperture. I figured out that Aperture silently imports the JPEGs with the RAWs (camera shoots RAW+JPEG), and also how to make a version from the JPEG master.
Is there any way to re-associate a JPEG master with a RAW master inside a project? I accidentally deleted a JPEG master. I could pull it out of the trash and reimport it, but then it was not considered associated with the RAW master. I ended up deleting both masters and reimporting to reconnect the masters.
The other question is there any way to edit externally the RAW file? Aperture's external editing feature seems to only export as TIFF or PSD, but my camera came with Silkypix which is a very capable (but odd) RAW editor. If I import the RAWs into Aperture I don't see any way to use Silkypix as an editor. Any ideas, or does it just make more sense not to put the RAWs into Aperture as long as I have to use Silkypix? RAW shooting is a new thing for me.

That seems a lot of effort, so can you not edit the
RAW's before importing to Aperture and then use
Aperture for image management, fine tuning, selects
    etc.?
Exactly the course I've decided to take until Aperture supports my camera's RAW. After some photo comparisons I've decided to shoot RAW and ignore the camera's JPEG, develop to 16-bit TIFF with Silkypix and then import the TIFFs into Aperture. It takes a bit of processing time up front, but the quality is worth it.
I've put together a side-by-side comparison of the camera's JPEG and the JPEG I export from Aperture after going through the RAW-to-TIFF conversion. The quality difference is quite noticeable.

  • Having problem accessing MacMini over network with PC's Windows 7

    Hi all,
    I have a Mac Mini with 10.6.x
Onec in a while, especially when restart Airport Extreme for upgrade or something else (both are connected with ethernet cable cat5e) ALL PC's on the network having problem accessing Mac Mini Server while All MACs are fine and can access all folders no problem. Usually takes about 3-4 min for PC to connect to server. Then  once it is connected (it loads all folder and files in that current window on the PC) i can go from folder to folder with no delays. However if i close the window with all folders then again i have to wait for around 3 min. to load everything all over again. AFP and SMB are ON. Today i made an experiment and turned SMB off and the problem still excist with the difference that after 3-4 min delay no folders were shown.
It seems that the PCs have hard time establishing connection with the server which is weird that Macs don't have that problem. It must be something with the setting of Mac MIni. Other wise i have no problem accessing Internet so the routher is working fine. DHCP is ON on the AP Extreme.
I came across as i was searching for this issue and it seems that authentication - Golden triangle or whatever is called - might be the issue in the whole mess. Do you guys think that this might be the case ?
The only way i have found out to help is to restart the Router and Server and that usually fix the problem  .
Could you please help me figure what is going on there?
Here is the original thread: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3867559?tstart=0 ( i think i posted in the wrong forum )

The specified changeip -checkhostname command does not make changes to your configuration.
To research the command (and that's entirely your perogative), please use Google or Bing to search for previous discussions and details, or review the provided man page documentation for the command.  (Launch Terminal.app (folder Applications > Utilities) and issue the command man changeip.  You'll see something like this:
    $ man changeip
    changeip(8)               BSD System Manager's Manual              changeip(8)
    NAME
changeip -- Change service configuration files with hard-coded IP addresses
    SYNOPSIS
         changeip [-v] [-d path] old-ip new-ip [old-hostname new-hostname]
         changeip -checkhostname
         changeip -h
    DESCRIPTION
changeip is used to manually update configuration records when a server's IP address or hostname changed in a way that affected services were unable to properly process, for example when the server is behind a NAT device and the WAN identity changed.  ...
Given your response and your concern, consider creating a backup of your disk.  Shut down, boot the installation DVD, and use Disk Utility (from the Utilities menu) in the second screen of the installation process to copy your disk contents to an external storage device.  (Time Machine isn't as good at getting a backup of a server as is a clean backup created while shut down.)  There are descriptions around that detail how to create this backup using Disk Utility.
There is no DNS server implemented in the Airport Extreme.  The Airport Extreme forwards DNS requests to a DNS server elsewhere.  Few gateway devices contain DNS servers; that these devices request a DNS address tends to be confusing, too.  That address is solicited from the user for use in the DHCP server that many of the available gateway devices provide.
There is no need for a DNS forwarder, particularly if your server is configured for your LAN.  (Adding a forwarder adds another hop into the whole translation process.  That configuration and that extra hop can be useful when the intermediate DNS server is providing specific, enhanced DNS-related functions, such as security monitoring and logging, or providing a "nanny filter" mechanism.)
If you are running DNS services on your LAN, then your Airport Extreme DHCP server should be configured to pass out the IP address of your DNS server.
It would appear that your local box has the default self-hosted DNS, and is not configured to serve LAN DNS (other than for itself).  That's good.  Accordingly, it'll likely be getting good DNS from itself, but will not be getting translations for other hosts on your network.  That's not so good.  When DNS responses are not available, you'll get DNS-level timeouts, and those are usually around 30 seconds each.
Check your server logs for messages related to the failed connections, and check the Windows file service logs for any errors being generated by the file service.  The log information is most easily available from Console.app, which is a utility in Applications > Utilities folder, or from the Server Admin tool (Applications > Server folder) for DNS, and for the file server component.
The above is probably going to read like a wall of unfamiliar jargon, so please ignore this and my previous response here, and I'll leave it to somebody else to assist you here.
