Having some problems updating.

Ok. So my little brother comes to me with his Ipod Touch because he it is displaying the "Connect To Itunes" Screen.
So i do.
But here is the kicker. An error comes up on itunes saying:
"Itunes could not connect the Ipod "Vince's Ipod" because it is locked with a passcode. You must enter your passcode on the Ipod before it can be used with itunes"
Here is the real problem. The ipod itself will not let me enter a passcode. The home button will illuminate the screen when not lit and holding the power button will bring up the "Slide to Power off" interface but i cannot do anything else to the ipod.
Any ideas on how to fix this would be greatly appreciated.

Normally when you are locked out by a password, the only way to fix it is to restore it on the computer that the iPod was set up on. If that is your computer, then try this:
1. Hold down the Sleep/Wake button until you see the red slider - turn the iPod off.
2. Hold down the Home button while you plug the iPod into your computer. Keep holding it down until iTunes recognizes it.
3. Let iTunes do it's thing
4. Take the iPod away from your brother
